She's certainly one of the best wife candidates a man could hope for. People who play "the waifu game" lol, tends to not care about the past, the present, or the future about the character. Heck, I have a friend who still likes "Sengoku Nadeko" from Bakemonogatari, even though he knows how her personality will radically change in her future arc. |

Big mystery isn't it? What do those people see in her? Beautiful, strong, loving and faithful waifu. I love arguing with people, I find it entertaining, but sometimes even I have to throw my arms up in amazement at some of the people here. There was one person who complained that Kirito always saved Asuna, when I pointed out at least 3 instances in SAO alone where Asuna saved Kirito, their complaint was that she didn't save him enough, which of course is ridiculous (what is enough, 5, 100, on every single page in the novel?). That is what you are dealing with. For a love interest in a fantasy series, Asuna is shown as being remarkably strong and independent. I know that many people don't like how much she comes to rely on Kirito, but what they of course miss is that this is reciprocated by Kirito who completely relies on her as well (which he states several times in SAO and AOL, more times than her in fact). This is made painfully clear in episode 13. It is Asuna who knows why they have to return to the front line (Kiriito is in denial), she rallies Kirito before the fight several times, she leads the charge into the boss lair, she is the one who identifies where the boss was, when Kirito tries to block a scythe, she is the one who rescues him, when the combined first attack of the party barely nudges the boss's hit point gauge, Kirito looks up in resignation, Asuna with determination, and it is Asuna who pushes Kirito out of his shock. And this is just one episode. Now you can point this out to the haters, that yes Asuna is a strong character, in many ways stronger than Kirito (who acknowledges this in episode 21, which is one of the reasons he loves her so much), but similar to the "saving argument", they refuse to accept this always demanding more and more "proof". Another example they give is that after their marriage, she always "bows" to him. Which of course is wrong. Kirito bowed to her on her decision to return to the front lines (probably the single most important decision in their lives she makes), and during those couple of episodes it is funny to watch how they trade off on the hacking duties. But again examples are meaningless to those obsessed with the "righteousness" of their fantasies. |

If you really want to fit in, just put Legend of the Galactic Heroes in your top 5 and have it be the only 10-rated anime in your list. |

QuiGonJon said: You do realize what that's from isn't an official part of the novel and wasn't even written by the writer of the novel, right? You are partially correct: It is not an official part of the novel, but it was written by the author. When he first posted SAO online, he was (and to a great degree still is) very receptive to reader's requests. They wanted a sex scene, he gave them one. Personally I found it entertaining, particularly his explaining the elements going into making VR sex. The idea that guys couldn't handle having avatars that were as hairless and smooth as a Ken doll was pretty funny (and probably accurate). The translation to English is pretty harlequin romance corny. I have been told that the original Japanese is written better (from a pure literary viewpoint), but haven't had the desire to track down a Japanese copy to confirm this. His most infamous quote is the one about the "two years of" mentioned in the gif. People have enjoyed taking it literally, personally I think Kawahara was making fun of Kirito with that statement, and this was a round about way of him saying that Kirito masturbated a lot before SAO, but his attempt at subtlety failed. |

People have different tastes in partners. Some like tall, some like plump. I would never argue that Asuna is better than Silica, Lizbet, or Suguha, or whoever, because that is a matter of opinion. Personally if I had to say which 2D character I would prefer, I would probably go with Suguha from AOL novel, but that is just my opinion. What I do argue against are people who claim things that are clearly contradicted by the animation and/or the novel. Those are not opinions, but matters of fact. Saying "Asuna never saves Kirito" is not an opinion, it is able to be proven incorrect. There is a huge difference between fact and opinion, far too many people here don't seem to know this difference though. |

I know about all that, if you read my post in episode 13 discussion,(Brilliant episode, easily my favorite episode of SAO) you'll learn that I actually came to appreciate Asuna's character during that episode. Which I'll kindly include the link here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=497997&show=300#msg17383839 (Thinking back, that was the only time I ever praised SAO with so much love) Outside of that episode, Asuna seem stale to me in every angle I look. EDIT: I find Sachi more appealing in her 10 minute appearance then all Asuna's time combined. (Which is probably obvious with all the Sachi appreciation post I've done in the past) |

(Which is probably obvious with all the Sachi appreciation post I've done in the past) I think you took my post more personally than it was meant to be. I was speaking more generally of the people who "hate Asuna", whereas you don't necessarily hate or even dislike her, you just like other characters more, which I would never argue about. My arguments were directed at specific arguments that other people have made to justify their hatred of Asuna, most of which are refuted not only by the novel, but even by this animation adaptation (which in general has been bad at translating the novels). In so far that you haven't made those arguments, my post was not directed at you. I apologize if, in using that thread to spark my response, you thought it was directed either solely or even at you. Read your link, agreed with most, maybe even all of it. 13 was by far the best character development episode in an adaptation that has done very little of it to date. I am hoping that 22 will likewise due for Suguha that 13 did for Asuna, but that remains to be seen. |

Also, You do realize what that's from isn't an official part of the novel and wasn't even written by the writer of the novel, right? well, it's implied that Kirito and Asuna became lovers. But the reality is Asuna never was filled with semen like the spoiler pick says. If anything semen glopped into a catheter inserted into Kazuto's penis and a night nurse had to clean up and replace it. Yes, it's a graphic point that Asuna and Kirito never REALLY had sex. Asuna isn't damaged goods; so you virgin hunters can stop crying now and go back to lusting for Asuna's 2d hymen like real Japanese otaku. Seriously though, I really think it's 2 things. Asuna's character wasn't developed enough. They never gave her a background other than she logged into her brothers account and her dad's a rich CEO of a tech company. Also, they never did any Asuna specific chapters. Everything was straight KiritoxAsuna from the start. She lacks a bit of depth. But it still doesn't make her a horrible character. And as many pointed out. She's the old news in the harem. A lot of people who love Suguha, hate Asuna cause she is Kirito's focus and he treats Suguha and Leafa like a kid sister. |

let me state one thing http://myanimelist.net/character/36828/Asuna_Yuuki 2000+ fav for a new char is extremely high, and it proves that shes popular. Only a minority of pp who doesnt like SAO hates her. And ofc, SAO's developments are all bad(which is according to them). And you can state 1001 reasons for hating or calling SAO bad, Asuna is just one of the reason. Personally, I've read the novel, although the adaptation is nowhere near the original source but Asuna still be one of my fav char. I agree that Asuna's development is bad in the anime though. |

As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all. |

-SPOILERS CONTAINED IN THIS COMMENT! DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHO HAS NOT APPEARED IN THE ANIME YET. READ THE WHOLE ENTIRE POST BEFORE JUDGING ME! I DID NOT INCLUDE YUI AS A HEROINE BECAUSE SHE IS NOT A LOVE INTEREST. NOW PROCEED TO READ!- Lets be honest here... Asuna is "loved" by fans all over the world because of these reasons: She's a "waifu", strong, pretty, and loving. Well, here's the thing, there are like what? Seven other heroines in SAO's entire anime, manga and light novel universe. From my knowledge from the light novel series, I could deduct that ALL 8 heroines (Including Asuna and Yuuki) are pretty. Sure, Silica is a loli. However, you can't really say she isn't pretty in some way or another. Here's another analysis. There are TWO other girls that can actually cook. Shino, was stated to have been living by herself. She was also said to be buying groceries for making dinner. Even though it was kind of vague and most of the time she didn't cook, she was implied to have cooked in the past. Suguha is the other heroine that could cook. We know from the anime that she has cooked (Note- Episode 22). She also cooks meals with Kirito since their mother works to really late. Now there are now THREE more heroines that can be a, some of you may call, a "waifu" and loving. Sachi, who is dead, was acting loving and caring like a wife would. She loved Kirito and vice versa. Sachi slept together with Kirito before Asuna did and also shared inventory with him. Even though they were not like a married couple, they still shared it. Sachi cared about Kirito's well-being. She left a message crystal for Kirito, which he received during Christmas Eve. The message told him to not blame himself for her death and to continue living on. Now another heroine, Suguha is also of "waifu" and loving potential. She can cook and cares a lot about Kirito. She lived with Kirito for like 16 years? She may have began having those feelings for him since an early stage. She also took up the burden of kendo because Kirito had decided to quit, even though she grew to love it. She also cared when Kirito was going all crazy trying to save Asuna. She didn't want Kirito to go all reckless and do something crazy again due to the SAO incident. Shino is the final heroine that is of "waifu" and loving potential. She's like a "waifu" because she can cook like one and cared a lot about Kirito. She loved Kirito so much as to reveal her deepest and darkest secret. She also was worried about him during the events of Alicization. She also cared about Kirito as to use an arrow to obtain Excaliber ONLY for Kirito. Asuna may be able to cook in SAO and ALO. However, it wasn't really revealed about her true potential in cooking in the real world. Her "waifu" like characteristics would just be caring for Kirito and relying on him like a wife should do. Though, she does rely a bit TOO much on Kirito. She constantly calls for Kirito when she could have done things herself. Now about being strong, in a way, all the heroines are strong. Silica risked her life to try to revive Pina, even though she received help from Kirito. Lisbeth may be strong since she acquired Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. It could have increased her strength as a player in ALO. Asuna is strong because she's fast as a rapier user. Suguha is strong as to be able to beat Kirito and got acknowledgement that she would win against Asuna, by Asuna herself. She's also strong for being able to hold in her feelings and looking forward to the future. Yuuki is strong because even though she has AIDS, she continued to live on and lived longer than the doctors had expected. She also has won 67 consecutive duels, including against Kirito and was about to beat Asuna. Sachi is strong because she didn't want to participate in the death game and even thought of death. However, she gained resolve from Kirito's words and continued to fight up until her death. Shino may be the strongest character in SAO's universe in terms of mentality. She killed someone in order to protect her beloved one. Even though she did commit murder out of self defense, she ignored all the comments people used to call her and lived on. In GGO, she was able to win the BoB tournament, alongside Kirito and came in 2nd in the 4th one. She was also able to hold off the against the two giants while the team was recovering from a cool down. Now as to why people not liking Asuna, I think I pretty much answered it in the post. Even though she was listed for having all those characteristics, other heroines also have the same thing. She's not the only girl with those characteristics. She also has the least character development during the entire novel series. Shino got out of her fear of guns and was able to overcome her past. Sachi influenced Kirito to live on and was able to become brave enough to fight monsters. Suguha was able to get over her love for her brother then moved onto his online character. Even though she learned of the truth, she still continued fighting on and wouldn't give up. Even during Asuna's shining star moment during her own novel, Konno Yuuki overshadowed her and was even more loved than Asuna was. I don't hate Asuna, but you got to admit. There are other heroines MUCH MUCH better than she is and she's not really much of a developed character. |

I'm too lazy to edit my long passage so I'll reword my saying about Shino being loving. She could be loving as to risk her life to protect her loved one. Since she was really young when she killed the robber, she could have died from the recoil of the gun. She still did it because she loved her mother. Thus, proving that she would do anything at all costs to protect her close ones. |

I'm too lazy to edit my long passage so I'll reword my saying about Shino being loving. She could loving as to risk her life to protect her loved one. Since she was really young when she killed the robber, she could have died from the recoil of the gun. She still did it because she loved her mother. Thus, proving that she would do anything at all costs to protect her close ones. I dont see how that is relevant to her loving Kirito.Close to someone=/=love.Liking him yeah but not love. She likes him as much as she likes Asuna. And her ideal man is nothing like Kirito.Word of god for this |

Oh, there was a Q&A with Shino? Mind if you give me the link? Hm.. Well, Kirito is quite perceptible when he fights. I guess, in terms of emotions or the sort, Kirito isn't that perceptible. He's good with technology so he may be perceptible in that. Kirito is tough but he does mope on what already has passed. He still regrets killing the two Laughing Coffin members and about not being able to save Sachi. It could be Kirito, since she does have somewhat romantic feelings for him. With her limited appearances since GGO and her short appearance in Alicization, we can't really tell if she has those kind of feelings for Kirito. It might even be Kyouji. She might be visiting Kyouji just to do what Sachi did, telling him not to blame himself for what he did. She probably forgave Kyouji since she constantly visits. All we know is, we have somewhat 2 candidates for her ideal man. |

EDIT:Some answers are wrong/outdated like Sinon being a Sylph in ALO.Below it says that the Q&A was before Caliber was written. Damn... I wanted some Q&A with Argos. I thought she was a mysterious and interesting character. Shino, saying her dream is to become a policewoman, was pretty great. It shows how much determination she has to overcome her fear of guns. Q. Do you hold sentiments of love for Kirito-kun? A. I don’t quite understand the emotion of love, but well, probably. Doesn't this contradict what you said a little? If she understood love more, doesn't that mean she loves Kirito? Well, I'm not going to dwell into this any further. Yeah, Klein's and Agil's Q&A was good. Kirito's was filled with too much questions about cheating on Asuna, who I personally think should dump. I liked Shino and Sugu's though. When they asked Midori questions, I thought they were a bit harsh. |

And skip straight to the much praised GGO where Asuna is not the main female lead... Apparently, said new female lead character actually got a mind of her own... I think that's perfect! EDIT: Again for the 500th time, it's not that I hate Asuna, I just literally don't give a crap about her at all |
