manga has competition, sorta. But I tend to think of anime having more competition within itself- like, between the different companies that produce it- rather than within other forms of animation or entertainment.

Exactly how could CGI compete against anime?

That's like saying clothing competes against buttons.

Or is more accurate to say it competes against everything. Everyone would love a foot in the market.

Anime is a niche
I don`t think it has any competition with another niche but I think it has competition within itself between different anime producers

Video Games, Same market share that buys anime most likely also buys Video Games.

There is competition in almost all markets. It competes with other TV shows for air slots and within the animation industry it self individual studios compete with each other.

You know that anime falls under CGI, right?

It doesn't have any direct competition since anime is a market on its own, but TV shows and movie's give similar entertainment.

Anime seems to be dominating in this competition.

Not how the market works. People get entirely different experiences out of anime than they do video games. On a personal level, you might have to decide between whether you want to spend your money on a video game or an anime box set, but you might also have to decide whether you want to spend your money on toilet paper and anime, and those don't compete. On the large scale these markets share their audiences, but they don't directly compete with each other.

As someone else said, anime is a niche, and there really isn't anything else that's going to enter that niche and be able to compete with it for a long time on any kind of serious level because anime has had such an impact on subculture.

Ah same old archaic understanding of how competition works

I bet you think TV and Movies don't compete either?

Last time I checked there are still 24 hours in a day and the amount of time some one has the devote to entertainment in that day is finite.

In a perfect world where people have infinite amounts of time to devote to different experiences, then your backwards understanding might work out.

I agree, money is finite, and there is balance between spending on needs and wants. Money is finite, thus in a way, all people must compete for your business. The time you must devote to anime compared to video games, essentially you must choose one or another, which is competition. All entertainment must compete regardless of its field for your finite business.

OT: I would beleive anime has no direct competition to its genre, but faces competition to network airing content. If it fails to get enough views, it is out-competed.

~my opinion on the subject i wont tell you believe it nor do i expect you change your own opinions.

It's gone far beyond then just people not being able to spend money, it's where the money is gonna go, The logic is the less time some one is devoting to your brand the less their gonna spend on it.

Look at how the Studio system in Hollywood fell apart in the 60's, They had this thinking "No way TV and Music will beat movies, Movies offer a better experience!" and in the end movies nearly collapsed because where rather spending their time on Music and TV instead of going to the movies.

Look at the push for Tablet and Smart Phone integration with other forms of media. The whole idea is, people already spend alot of time on these devices so lets connect these two experiences so they can share the same time frame.

It's not about dollars anymore, Time is the new currency. There is an astrological amounts of media bombarding us now a days and the more time you can get a person to devote to your media, the better off you are.
