So many of these cases are popping up in the news lately, and as an aspiring teacher I can't help but feel disgusted. This is the latest one featuring in British news. Why do you think this is happening so much lately?

Oh what story? I haven't heard this yet.

It's probably more that we hear about them now more, rather than them happening more often.

15?! Even if you say: "Love transcends age." She is not even grown up yet, let alone educated enough about society or old enough to make such decisions.

As for why. I don't know, teachers tend to be a example to everybody. Maybe something like that.

I think there definitely has been more of these in recent years, and I still can't quite pinpoint why. From the articles I've read, most of the teachers seem to have had some serious emotional or psychological issues. Disturbs me how they managed to qualify as teachers in the first place. Makes me question just how much teaching standards have dropped.

I'm not really condoning this, but girls mature really young these days, I'm not saying 15 is old enough to make life-altering decisions, but I'd say it's not really uncommon these days.

The thought of my teacher ever seeing me in a romantic way makes me want to dry heave. Nothing against my lovely teachers, but they're like parents in the way that you believe that they only have one purpose in your life, and romantic feelings aren't them. I even think some of my teachers are cute and young, but the thought makes me uncomfortable lol.

Anyway, there's a case going on here in Canada with some French teacher and her student.

I find that the best way to go about this sort of stuff is to actually go all the way and view it through their eyes, gaining a more objective approach. Just imagine yourself in a position like that, you can't deny that it is possible, how would you approach it? When is enough actually enough? What if it were mutual, age difference and social status boundaries are long obsolete, how would your react in class when you saw him?

Harvard study, haha.

I'm very tempted to say the y axis is true (media, club culture, and all that), not so sure about teacher creepiness. Although, I suppose the argument could be made that sexuality in general is becoming more open and thus taboo relationships are becoming slightly more acceptable.

I think it is harder to get away with it today than it used to be. And people are more accepting of different things that used to be taboo. I don't think it will ever stop.

Am I the only one who heard of that 16 year old pageant girl who married the 40 or 50 something year old actor? Looked it up her name is Courtney Stodden.

And I found Quagmire's answer.

No, I've pretty much just finished my masters degree, so I'll be submitting my applications for various teaching courses soon. I have a fair amount of teaching experience though.

:/ Pretty tricky to think like that when social status boundaries are very much in place. Sure, those boundaries are being breached more and more it seems, but people are still aware of them. Speaking from my own experience, I found that the students wanted to treat me like a friend or big sister because I'm not much older than them. Obviously I was careful to stress that despite the small age gap, I was still the teacher, and it was no longer a problem, they still responded to me very well. But I can easily see how other people might not be strong enough to enforce the teacher/student boundary.

Not sure sure I agree with the fact that some people are suggesting the girl is a slut or "slutty" or in-fact they've had any kind of sexual relationship at all.

I highly doubt thats its the case that there are more now, its simply we see it on tv more because that shit gets good reviews on the news, but I wont be surprised if there is indeed a little bit of increase, probably due to the amount of student teacher romance manga ^-^ trolol

Ah okay, very nice. I used to have some interest in becoming a teacher, but not so much anymore. Still enjoy tutoring though, it's just so much more effective, although obviously less time efficient.

What subject?

Classics. Mostly Latin and Ancient Greek, but it also covers pretty much everything else relating to the Graeco-Roman world.

Interestingly, there are loads of positions available, but nowhere near enough teachers for the demand. Only two places in the UK offer specific training for Classics though (KCL and Cambridge), its hard to get onto those if you don't want to learn on the job. I narrowly missed out on a place at Cambridge this year, but I'll be sure to try again next year, along with the other routes I'll apply for.

Nothing is ever easy on the quest to knowledge. You're still young and haven't yet experienced enough with your students. You will at some point probably take up your own class, and get some alone time with students and even individually so, making it easier to pop that gap wide open and bring you closer to the climax of the story. You can only then look objectively.

It's not hard to believe that a student can fall in love with a teacher, teachers and students spend a lot of time together and this is a 15 year old, it's not like she isn't aware of her feelings and liking boys and such.
