If he/she don't like "animation" then it can never be help.

Try to suggest/recommend something they would like based off of what you know of their tastes. Although, speaking from experience, it's really hard to get "non-anime" people to try out series based off of recommendations.

It's easier to invite people over to watch movies, or to watch series with you. Then it's not just about the anime, it's about socializing as well.

Try to start them off with a comedy and watch it with them.

That's what I do. My sister, for example, tends to like romances, so I suggested VK to her and she liked it, lol. Generally, with open-minded people, the medium doesn't matter as much as the content and art. Watch it with them too, don't just recommend and if they don't like it, they don't like it. Some people just won't.

My thoughts exactly. I find new stuff to be a lot more enjoyable with friends than all by myself. Start with something that's pretty mainstream and to your friends' tastes, and you should be good to go. My guess is that you'll probably have a better shot with movies & ovas than entire series. Good luck!

#1: please use more descriptive thread titles, a title like "some help" doesn't tell anything about what you're looking for
#2: please post in the correct forum.

Just let them flip through some of your manga.
If they like it, let them borrow it.
And all that jazz.

I've been trying for ages, but those that do only watch the more mainstream ones, like Naruto, Gundam series, or more recently, Vampire Knight (Wonder why). SO, my guess is, that's the answer. Show them the more mainstream ones that will help integrate them further into anime. If they still don't like it, at least you've tried. XD

Invite them over and put something on. Try and find a show that you think they would enjoy (they're your friends, you know their tastes), and that isn't too terribly long. That's what worked for me; I watched a couple of 12/13 episode series and movies with my friends. They enjoyed it so then asked me for more suggestions, and gradually started watching on their own.

If they really don't like it or aren't open to watching though, there's really nothing you can do about it.

if your friend liked the matrix, then i say give the GITS movie a try or the show, and basically say that the directers of the matrix took most of their ideas of the movie, and they might like it, but if your friend is more in to the romance love story or something happy go lucky, than idk...

I've ha this problem too, my friends from school are always completely oblivious to what I say =(

Anyways, what I try to do is to show them what I like as an example (i.e:Shugo Chara!) also, like 7aTz said, try Ghibli flims, Spirited Away can really hook people into anime if they like it. Also, make sure you explain that 4Kids TV ruined all the anime they dubbed and show them that there are better dub companies out there.

Last, you should always make sure they are comfortable watching Japanese animation via World War 2 ><

I find the best way to break a person of anti-animation sentiment is to well... stop treating anime separately from other television. An Anime is simply a television show that happens to be animated, rather than done in live-action. There are cultural carry-ons (the fact that most anime is made in Japan, for one), but you shouldn't be thinking of anime as a separate art form in itself. If you changed your tack from trying to promote the watching of animation, to the watching of good TV shows, your campaign might be more successful.

Peace through Superior Firepower!

Are you using some kind of advanced logic I don't know about? Have you decided to assign new meanings to English words? Are you just intentionally burning a straw man and knowing full well that you're changing the subject and misrepresenting a claim?

LOL its very simple to get friends to watch anime :P ... u have 3 choises :
1. they agree to watch cose u as a friend they trust in sayed so .
2. u tie them up to a chair and make them watch 1 episode of Code Geass .
3. u make them watch amv's ... if they will like them they will surely ask for the anime they see there ;) ... but that is only if u make them watch ... all say that amv's suck ... till they watch them ;)

Worked out for me 2-3 times :))

ps. it works also if they watch them on TV and start to like them and know u have the series they saw there and ask for them ... that way they will surely ask for more if u push them in the right ( anime FTW ) direction ;)

It really depends on what genre they like. I was into the action genre and that's why I started watching anime.

get new friends. haha.

no, really though, i think the best way is to get another friend who also likes anime, and then invite the anime hater over, and then have the 3 people all watch something that is interesting to everybody. i've found that, depending on the person, is the best way to break the negative anime stigma that most people have.

but, if it doesn't work, they'll still make fun of you for watching "Dem stoopid curtoons wid dem biiiig eyes!"

I dunno, both CG and DN have pretty homoerotic moments between the male leads. Certainly enough to put some people off (the type who are already 'anime is for fags') and it takes a few episodes to be able to appreciate the story of either. Might be hard to get them to watch that far if they already have a negative view of the medium.

Best to find something in a genre they already like (movie/TV wise) and go from there.

Not for fags, but we're all weeaboo nerds apparently. I don't obsess myself over anime, but I do like it, and I'm not a nerd or anything.
