You can't go wrong with showing her Howls Moving Castle. It's pretty much a fairytale(only y'know... good). Same goes for pretty much any Studio Ghilbi movie.
As always, today is the most enjoyable day.

-- For the most part that's true but just like Disney, Some can be scary to some children. Kind of laughing at Chobits as it is actually pretty sexual in nature and there is a Transvestite in Tokyo Godfathers.

I don't have kids and there really wasn't such a thing as anime when I was a kid so I really can't say. You sure don't want to show them most the stuff I watch.

I don't really care much about the sex/nudity in Chobits; I'm sure that happens every once in a while but all in all, it looks pretty chidlike to me [sic] it's alright to show children. And so what if there is a transvestite or not in Tokyo Godfathers, or rape, or violence, or graphic violence, or gore or stabbing and most of all...
?

I guess I'm not too strict in nature on what kids watch, but I wouldn't really show her Trigun as it is too violent and confusing at some parts for her to understand, but I wouldn't mind showing it to someone who's already reached his/her preteens such as a cousin I have who is already watching Trigun and is LOVING it. She is now crushing on the main character and laughing her ass off at every funny move he does and is probably now recommending it to people. I think I might also show the nine year old Chobits and Tokyo Godfathers sometime soon.

? Nope. None of that or violence. And the transvestite is my favorite character.

--I think 9 year-olds might appreciate it more.

Goodness, I've actually seen:
-Chi's Sweet Home/New Address
-Pom Poko (Really good but explaining why male racoons have huge testicles is going to be interesting . . . . )

I've heard of:
-Hamtaro
-Hello Kitty
-Jungle Taitei (doubt it's dubbed)
-Kaidan Restaurant
-Nadia, the Secret of Blue Watter
-Pokemon
-Yumeiro Patissiere

Chobits might be a bit too deep for a six year old. The underlying theme is humans being replaced by robots and has sexual themes. I don't think a six year old really would understand.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar & Save Me (Mamotte) Lollipop might be a little better. You don't want to scare her or introduce her to something she's not ready for. If it's not your child, it's best to err on the edge of caution.

I'm not sure about any series, but you I'd let her watch Spirited Away. It'll probably be a bit confusing, for a girl her age, but still I think most kids would find it enchanting.

I think that The Secret World of Arrietty/ Karigurashi no Arrietty is a pretty good movie for a young girl. The main protagonist is female and it is based on the fantasy novel "The Borrowers" by Mary Norton.

It's also from Ghibli and was released in 2010.

You might think that Chobits would be fine to show to a six year old child, but your friend might not >.> Ask your friend what he/she would like their granddaughter to watch. Just showing an anime like Chobits without asking your friend what would be appropriate to show their granddaughter could cause some problems.

Does she like cats? If so, then Chi's Sweet Home and Nyanpire would be good. I got my sister to watch Chi's Sweet Home when she was 3.

Also, maybe Hime-chan no Ribbon and Shugo Chara if she's confident with subs (same goes for the above). If not, then Ponyo by Ghibli is a good film that she might like and is suitable for her age.
