Alright, so like, how much water do y'all drink in a day? I'd say for me I don't really specifically choose how much water I drink in a day, but I'd say it's anywhere from 2 to like maximum 8 bottles every single day. So anyways, what about you? |

I have a gatorade bottle that I try to keep on me at all times filled with water that equals to four cups. I do my best to drink two of these a day to get my eight cups in. |

Up untill this month I wasn't drinking water at all usually coca cola around 2 liters a day. But now due to my job I'd rather avoid drinking soda or other unhealthy stuff in front of the kids while teaching them so I drink water and I always have a liter with me, which is the amount of water I drink daily + mentioned coke at home. |

Well, I usually drink something else too, but most of that is also water, so in total it's around 4 liters probably. |

I don't keep track but probably too much. This might sound crazy but when I started seeing the whole "stay hydrated" meme get spread a few years ago I started wondering if maybe the opposite is true, and it's actually better to always be somewhat dehydrated? I mean think about it. Did our ancestors always have access to drinkable water 24/7? Of course not. So maybe we're not actually evolved for that and it's better to fast every now and then |

@NS2D Just because you can survive malnourished for quite a while, doesn't mean you should intentionally do it. |

@XMGA030 I don't think a lot of us got inuits as ancestors? But sure we could look at the ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations, or the Mongols who all generally had access to clean drinking water but those are still extremely recent when you step back and look at it on a wider scale. It's not like human biology has changed much during the many thousands of years of various societies and ways of life Edit: A lot of the water we consume actually comes from what we eat rather than what we drink, and overdosing on water can flush out important minerals from the body faster than you can replenish them. That's probably why there are specific electrolyte drinks like Powerade and Gatorade |

@JaniSIr Yes I should probably make it clear that this isn't something that I'm advocating for or wish for others to do. I just wish there were more research done on it since I know at least personally that I feel much sharper and focused when I've fasted, so I think that there are valid reasons that fasting is a theme that occurs in so many religions across the world and it would be interesting to see more legitimate research being done on the effect it has |

@XMGA030 Sure I see where you're coming from and maybe you're right. Like I say it's just a thought I had. Implying that they only ate red meat makes no sense though since they'd obviously eat a lot of fatty meat and organs as well and that in itself would provide them with water. It's not like they went to sleep with a bottle of water and a fear of slight dehydration, and that was the point I was trying to make. It's okay to not constantly walk around filled with water. The fear of salt in modern times is another thing that I find very weird but I guess we can keep my contrarian food theories to one at a time :P |

@NS2D Yeah, I feel hungry and weak when I don't eat for long. Well, the one exception is food coma, where digestion takes a lot of energy... And religious fasting is to prove your faith by overcoming the weaknesses of your flesh, not because there is any actual health reason. |

@NS2D Electrolyte drinks are specifically for sport, as sweating a lot will get rid of minerals. Also a similar mixture is used when treating dehydrated people, since you need minerals for your nervous system to function. (Well, sports drinks mimic the medical mixture, not the other way around, but you get the point.) |

JaniSIr said: Yeah, I feel hungry and weak when I don't eat for long. Same but it comes in waves. If I'm too busy doing something else the hunger fades and I instead feel more focused on what I'm doing. My theory was always that it's some remnant from when we were animals having to hunt for food. It makes sense that your mind would be sharper when you need to find food and more relaxed when you've eaten. But again this is purely speculation and not something that is scientifically proven as far as I know JaniSIr said: And religious fasting is to prove your faith by overcoming the weaknesses of your flesh, not because there is any actual health reason. That depends on the religion and the context. There are examples in religion of fasting being seen as a cure to various illnesses JaniSIr said: Also a similar mixture is used when treating dehydrated people And drinking too much water can ironically enough lead to dehydration. Which goes back to my original post and how I think there was something sinister about the meme to "stay hydrated" because most people don't know anything about electrolytes and how to balance their water intake |

Honestly interesting question! Something I been trying to think about more often. I often keep bottles on hand, I'd say around 3-4. But I also have tea and some mocha every day as well. I need to drink more but I am also a slow drink in general! When I exercise, I will drink a bit more, or if I eat really salty foods that make my mouth dry, I definitely will increase that closer to 5 bottles. |

NS2D said: they'd obviously eat a lot of fatty meat and organs Well yeah, that's what I meant to say. Organ meat is where almost all the salt is, because salt is mainly in the blood and organs are the bloodiest parts. Tell you what though, I personally wouldn't want to test the idea of depending on animals organs to supply my water needs. The amount of salt ingested would be higher than the amount of water. |

@XMGA030 Fair enough. I just find it fun to throw out my ideas that I get while bored and see what others think about them :D Also isn't the water in our bodies the reason our cells age and deteriorate? Or did science fiction lie to me about that one? |

Not enough. My usual daily routine of a few cups of tea, a can of soda and maybe some coffee can't be healthy for me. Could probably avoid some of my monthly headaches by properly hydrating myself with a few glasses of water a day, regardless of how tasteless it is. |

OT: No specific amount either - I always drink a cup after brushing my teeth in the morning & at night. At work, I try to take a walk at least every few hours & the options are limited to the bathroom & the kitchen so usually I will usually get a cup of water alongside the coffee & cookies (if I'm not on the diet that I fail every 2 days). I usually forget to eat or drink if I'm focused |

70 ounces of water a day, 64oz is the safe call A lot of my co-workers and people I have met in my adulting life do not drink more than 32 oz of water a day? The reasons for this are diverse, but if I had to list one, most of these individuals only see water as something to drink on the bare minimum I carry a fairly large bottle myself everywhere I go even in my....40 hours a week job While it is nice to receive compliements for the bottle, I just reply kindly saying I do exercise to keep the tone factors and stay healthy in the work life balance ( adding the not to be mentioned benefits of drinking adequate amounts of water ) |
