Then they either ask what it is or that they don't use it. Okay, it may be niche, but it's the most popular anime forum. Only one guy actually had an account and it was empty and unused so I had to remove him from my friends list later. My friend asked, "Do you always do that?" and I said yes. Then he told me I was probably weirding people out but I don't know what's so wrong with using MyAnimeList as your central social hub. What was I supposed to do, use Instagram to post endless pictures of my food and face? |
| I mean, I suppose it is weird because this is a forum full of degenerates, but who cares? If I had to ask a woman for her Instagram, it would be because I find her attractive and want to do the sex with her, or just want to talk to her. Instagram is seen as more general purpose for communication like Discord is. I think some people feel offended you are not giving them more personal ways of communicating with them, keeping them at a distance, so to say. Truthfully, I don't normally ask women for their Instagram, but I do sometimes am offered their Instagram handles over personal phone numbers or MAL. Other options include Discord and WhatsApp. |

| I don't think is weird, just a bit random, people always expect you to give a popular social media name because everyone uses it, and people still shame anime watchers so prolly even if they had an account some wouldn't tell or admit, still, don't feel ashamed of what you like, if you want to ask them their MAL account go ahead, there is nothing wrong with it |

| Because it's a more niche thing-y while Instagram is the go-to social media for zoomers. Like, you wouldn't be like "Oh, you like One Piece? You can add me on MAL, n-hentai, and this obscure doujin art board if you want!" to someone you met at a pool party. But as someone who logs into instagram once a year, I feel your pain. Just give them your Discord instead. |

| There are people with whom I'd exchange Instagram (if I had an account), and there are people with whom I'd exchange MAL. My intention and relation to these people are very different. |
| I don't know much about Insta but I imagine it's more like Facebook than a forum like this, with it's own instant messenger. I think if you gave them your Discord or Facebook instead they wouldn't look at you weird. I think of it like they're asking for your phone number to text or call you and you give them your address so they can write letters instead. That said I do personally prefer forums. They're just generally obscure and people I meet in real life don't really use them (or use the ones I use). |

| Honestly I don't think I've ever given anybody a direct link to my MAL account before, since most people don't consider it a social media in the grand scheme of things. Even though it obviously is. I usually give people links to my Facebook, Twitter etc. |

First off, it only has a small part of my anime list, my primary database is actually some other site whose forum is pretty much dead. And second what for? It's completely useless to other people. Just tell them you don't have what they ask for. |
| As someone who watches anime and has watched anime for the past 11/12 years now, any and all forums are either dead or dying. Most anime discussion is now held on mainly apps like Twitter or Tiktok. I would not give out my MyAnimeList on a regular basis. I recommend opening an Instagram or some other social media and just use it for texting if you're not interested in posting. |

| When I encounter some people who says they're into anime/manga stuff, I just ask first if they have MAL account. If they said no, I just ask where they usually hang out online. imo it's convenient to have a personal IG and another IG dedicated to my interests. |
