Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 4 Episode 3 Discussion

Naofumi, someone who's entire trait was being a distrustful and straightforward guy when dealing with people even if his words were harsh, is now not only being pushed around by a bunch of stupid politicians that should worship him, but also letting a blind loli to protect his face.

Truly the fall of the shield hero.

That beginning with the Trash King was really good. The rest of the episode was just talk, which is hard to make feel natural without good storyboarding and direction. I didn't think it was bad, but it wasn't great either, with lots of abrupt cuts between characters' lines. For me, the highlight of this episode was the soundtrack; all the songs were incredibly good. My final impression of the episode is that the assistant director isn't as good or creative as I thought. Maybe he's only good with action scenes, but now I'm skeptical about him.
@hypexleaks Since there was no action in this episode, that explains the director who was hired.In other words, in the next episode, we'll probably have the storyboard and direction done by the anime director or someone equally qualified.
Finally, the White Tiger brothers definitely need to win, or Naofumi will be in trouble in various ways. I have to admit I laughed out loud at Naofumi's scream of despair.

it was a good episode, for the first time in the series ever. this episode adapted only ONE CHAPTER, what the actual fuck? for me, i'm all for good pacing adapting 2 novels, but as a novel reader i was hoping they'd at least fight this episode. but nope

we got a bit of the kings backstory and even seeing some of his abilities from the past war with siltvelt vs melromarc, they should've extended this for half of the episode to make up just the pure talking lmao. but i was very happy to see it adapted

the art is still strong, the storyboards were flat as shit tho. too static, but i blame the episode director. clearly not as experienced just as i thought lol

most boring episode this season so far but i enjoyed it, at least next episode will be great

@hypexleaks One chapter, they're crazy or what? For me, this is more than enough proof that, unfortunately, we won't have Phoenix this season.
It's funny to see that we had the same conclusion about the assistant director, when he was announced as a staff member, I saw that he was an average or good action animator, but storyboarding an action scene and an episode entirely about dialogue is quite different.
In closing, your review of the episode was great. I think it's good to highlight when the anime makes mistakes or its negative points so that when the anime does it well, it stands out even more.

Damn boring arc, hope it's over soon. I think they thought this is some kind of exciting GoT politics. Cheesy, repetitive nonsense every damn episode.

@CorbanEsp it's hard to translate light novel moments to anime sometimes, especially that we don't hear naofumi's inner thoughts. the rest of the season will be very good, bare with it lol. they're clearly setting it up, just slowly

@hypexleaks That's hard for me to believe.
Manga/LN readers always overhype their favourite shows. I can't count how many times someone has said in these forums that "the next arc is the bestest ever" only to be average at best.
I have made something similar, as a fan, so I don't blame them, I'm just skeptic.

There's also the problem that in previous seasons people talked about "how good" it was going to be only to be subpar in the best cases. But in your/their defense, this season seems better paced than the clusterfuck that were S2 and S3.


The inner thoughts is a script problem, plenty animes show in one way or another inner thoughts of characters, albeit rarely as detailed as novels, I concur.
But less detailed and absent are very different measures.

From the comments, you can tell this episode was bad.
Making an optimistic comparison between seasons 3 and 4, episode 12 was the worst episode of season 3, certainly due to outsourcing and the episode's director. In other words, this will be the worst episode of season 4.
As the content of the seasons differs, the team's priorities also change. In season 3, the episodes with the most focus from the team were episodes 1, 2, 8, 9, and 11, starting very well and only then in episode 8 returning to the peak of episodes 1 and 2. In season 4, we had episode 1 with good production, episode 2 with very good or good production, episode 3 with poor or mediocre production, and finally, episode 4, which seems to be on the same level as episodes 1 and 2 of season 3.
Now, about the rest of season 4, I heard that there will be a lot of fights, so probably after the climax of episode 4, we will have "non-consecutively" four more high-level episodes, if the team follows the level of season 3.

I know Fohl will be the protagonist of the next episode, so I'm dying to see what kind of scene the staff will come up with this time.

I hope it's something along the lines of this, more specifically from 0:55 onwards.👉🔥

im imagining atla pulling an endless talk no jutsu mid fight about the divinity of shield hero, descrimination and morality and fohl pulling yet another endless talk about what it was done to their father, btw that and actually getting the ship ready and sail i unfortunately foresee 2 eps with terrible pacing.
and for no reason honestly, bothing useful for the plot has happened or will happen from that fight, the only think watchers took from this detour is that there is a town of beastfolks that worships the shield hero, nothing more, thats it. no conection to rapthalia assassination attempt, no leads on the phoenix nothing on the emperor, smh. at least they kinda got a new white tiger ally? but i predict he will take back the position from the laios (jaralis) and stayvthere anyways so not rly.

@Alex_the_reaper Judging by your comment, you haven't read the novel, so it's kind of stupid to say the arc is useless since it hasn't even finished.
Obviously, the next episode will focus on Fohl and develop his character, and finally, this arc will serve to explain the origin of the Trigre brothers and establish Siltvelt as an allied nation in the future.
I know of a spoiler or two, but I haven't read the novel from volume 13 onwards, so I deduced all of this just based on the trailers and episodes already released.
