Naofumi using his brains here for his plans this episode. Not bad. As for Atla, I'm impressed by the amount of leadership and charisma she showed. She might not always looks like it but she spoke from her heart this episode. I think people shouldn't underestimate her at all. |

This episode was pretty much all dialogue and political maneuvering and I still enjoyed the hell out of it because Atla completely stole the show and showed up all these career politicians. That proud smile from Naofumi like a father watching his daughter achieve something for the first time.. I love her sm and this was HER episode. Go Atla! Discrimination or not, she was going to speak her mind atta girl 😂 Clearly everyone has forgot the actual point of the nation of Siltvelt which is a meant to be a refugee for all Demi humans to come and live in harmony without persecution. They’ve literally just turned it into another hellhole where certain groups live as second class citizens and don’t get their voices heard. The original shield hero who founded it would be disgusted to see the current state of affairs. Atla might be young and a visitor, but she embodies the spirit of the founding of Siltvelt more than anyone at that table besides the elder. Jaralis actually needs an Oscar for his acting performance today because this dude somehow managed to turn overwhelming consensus that he was the poisoning suspect into an attack on Naofumi’s legitimacy as hero and Werner. 4D chess, can’t wait to see his scheming ass taken out though. Only way this was ever going to be settled was through a fight. Jaralis is too smooth a talker and too skilled a politician to beat him as visitors like that. Atla and Fohl will have their hands full, but this is a perfect opportunity for them to test their newfound skills AND get answers about their dad. Naofumi took one look at Minotaur dude’s daughter and started begging Atla and Fohl to win so he don’t have to marry her LMAOOOO. Can’t wait. P.S Raphtalia saying like 5 words all episodes because she saw her little sister doing so well is so cute lol. |

Objection! A rousing speech by Atla to sway those horrible nobles to Naofumi's side. Will these assholes ever see the Shield as anything more than a prop? Probably not. Under similar circumstances, I could see Raphtalia making this speech. Too bad she's been demoted to background character. Luckily, the guys from Slime called to ask for their table back, so we get to solve the problem by violence instead. Next up, Tiger Twins versus Jaralis. I do remember some of 3's fight scenes being particularly strong. |

Naofumi, someone who's entire trait was being a distrustful and straightforward guy when dealing with people even if his words were harsh, is now not only being pushed around by a bunch of stupid politicians that should worship him, but also letting a blind loli to protect his face. Truly the fall of the shield hero. |

That beginning with the Trash King was really good. The rest of the episode was just talk, which is hard to make feel natural without good storyboarding and direction. I didn't think it was bad, but it wasn't great either, with lots of abrupt cuts between characters' lines. For me, the highlight of this episode was the soundtrack; all the songs were incredibly good. My final impression of the episode is that the assistant director isn't as good or creative as I thought. Maybe he's only good with action scenes, but now I'm skeptical about him. @hypexleaks Since there was no action in this episode, that explains the director who was hired. In other words, in the next episode, we'll probably have the storyboard and direction done by the anime director or someone equally qualified. Finally, the White Tiger brothers definitely need to win, or Naofumi will be in trouble in various ways. I have to admit I laughed out loud at Naofumi's scream of despair. |

The speech was powerfully powerless. Flashback felt rush while the discussion felt boring and too long. Naofumi becoming a silent victim of every small situations is really disappointing when you remember where he came from in season 1. I get it that the arc/characters introductions might have importance later but they could've adapted this to give a good rythm to the anime (total opposite from last season, finding a middle ground would've been nice), it just feel poorly executed and blend. Also the reaction from Naofumi to the minotaur's girl felt out of character for some reason, I can't really tell why but it was a bit goofy for a serious moment, the humour didn't work on me this time. |

@CorbanEsp it's hard to translate light novel moments to anime sometimes, especially that we don't hear naofumi's inner thoughts. the rest of the season will be very good, bare with it lol. they're clearly setting it up, just slowly |

@Desmascarado Man, this is a bad gamble! I know the twins can fight, but Jarlis has already brought in a ringer. Could be trouble, but yeah I hope they wrap up this part of the arc soon, these Siltvelt guys are annoying. |

@hypexleaks One chapter, they're crazy or what? For me, this is more than enough proof that, unfortunately, we won't have Phoenix this season. It's funny to see that we had the same conclusion about the assistant director, when he was announced as a staff member, I saw that he was an average or good action animator, but storyboarding an action scene and an episode entirely about dialogue is quite different. In closing, your review of the episode was great. I think it's good to highlight when the anime makes mistakes or its negative points so that when the anime does it well, it stands out even more. |

@Desmascarado it's a good sign that they're willing to adapt one chapter per episode in some places (especially for qten lo because so much happens) but this was the wrong episode to do that, they shouldn't have adapted just one chapter. i'm all for setting up the fights, but I feel like they should've spent half the episode setting it up, the second half fighting. (there's a perfect cliff hanger spot for episode 3 to end when they fight) then half of episode 4 fighting, second half of episode 4 leaving to qten lo on the ship. and thank you for praising my review, I really love the anime so I do want to see it do well. having this episode director on was a mistake, clearly not a smart choice. i am skeptical of the assistant director too, but I understand the 4th episode is where they put a lot of time into. i just don't want people saying this anime is like Slime, because it's not. and it'll never be like that slogfest of a series. but i don't disagree with the comments for today's episode, adapting just one chapter of talking is too much. especially when we've had 2 previous episodes of setting up already that scene with naofumi screaming to fohl and atla to win was really funny i loved that |

Their entire time in Siltvelt has been a colossal waste of time, so why does the anime need to reflect that?! I feel that Naofumi could have just said at the start of the episode "Who do I need to fight to get you idiots to listen to me?" Then we could have had the duel and been on the way to Q'ten Lo, roll the fucking credits. No lie, if this duel goes more than one episode I am going to be fucking pissed! |

@hypexleaks That's hard for me to believe. Manga/LN readers always overhype their favourite shows. I can't count how many times someone has said in these forums that "the next arc is the bestest ever" only to be average at best. I have made something similar, as a fan, so I don't blame them, I'm just skeptic. There's also the problem that in previous seasons people talked about "how good" it was going to be only to be subpar in the best cases. But in your/their defense, this season seems better paced than the clusterfuck that were S2 and S3. The inner thoughts is a script problem, plenty animes show in one way or another inner thoughts of characters, albeit rarely as detailed as novels, I concur. But less detailed and absent are very different measures. |

Alta simping is out of line but she is right but Naofumi just standing up and taking kids take responsibility even Raphtalia is kinde lame ass writing just to move the plot. And this guys are worshiping him one moment then getting emotional but suddenly a guy who just committed treason says something they start agreeing. Again bad writing. |

@IzanaSolos do you know which studio it was outsourced too? I swear this shit resembled DR Movie, but I really couldn't tell because last season they outsourced it to Studio H4 too. (episodes 7&12) also about the king caring, if it isn't clear already. (next episode will expand his lore even more so spoilers) atla and fohls mom is the kings sister, she married into a demi human country and that's where fohl and atla were born in siltvelt. when she was killed, the king resented the current shield hero of that time, siltvelt & hated demi humans. so it's what basically carried his hatred towards the shield hero to naofumi, even tho he had zero part in that. basically the king has a bunch of trauma from what happened. now, i'm not sure if they'll explain all of what I just said into the next episode. but this season and season 5 will expand a ton on the kings character and build a slow redemption arc, it's actually done very well in the novels. and the anime is presenting it very well as for the production team, it's common for them to outsource the episode before a priority one. we've seen it in season 3, but i thought it was way too early to be doing that. so I'm surprised they actually outsourced it i am very skeptical of the assistant director now, because it's actually really worrying. the storyboards were just not good. episode director is garbage tho, even tho he was actually very very faithful to the novel to its core. (but they literally just adapted one chapter only so it's hard to fuck that up) it's guaranteed that this season will not reach the phoenix, but qten lo arc is actually really good so that's something to look forward to |

@CorbanEsp everyone assumed that this season would be adapting to the phoenix, clearly enough 3 episodes in with how slowly they're adapting the 13th volume. it won't get to that, it's because the volume material in book 15&16 are the second highest peaks in terms of writing quality to the first season. and people assumed because of s3 pacing, the same would happen with season 4 that would roughly get to volume 15 the phoenix fight. the arcs that are offered this season are actually pretty good, so the fact we're covering less is better. the story that's offered this season is pretty good, but not the best part of the series. but yeah they're adapting it very slow, and i'm a novel reader and even I agree they made a mistake just adapting one chapter for this episode specifically. |

From the comments, you can tell this episode was bad. Making an optimistic comparison between seasons 3 and 4, episode 12 was the worst episode of season 3, certainly due to outsourcing and the episode's director. In other words, this will be the worst episode of season 4. As the content of the seasons differs, the team's priorities also change. In season 3, the episodes with the most focus from the team were episodes 1, 2, 8, 9, and 11, starting very well and only then in episode 8 returning to the peak of episodes 1 and 2. In season 4, we had episode 1 with good production, episode 2 with very good or good production, episode 3 with poor or mediocre production, and finally, episode 4, which seems to be on the same level as episodes 1 and 2 of season 3. Now, about the rest of season 4, I heard that there will be a lot of fights, so probably after the climax of episode 4, we will have "non-consecutively" four more high-level episodes, if the team follows the level of season 3. |

episode 1/5 Honestly, this beginning is worse than the other seasons, even with the small improvement in the animation, the plot is very, very difficult to follow and it only gets worse with each speech of the characters with monologues that make me want to sleep because they are so boring, my god, this anime has no salvation, what a bad thing lol |

So this is the return of the infamous "meeting table" that Slime had a reputation for back last year. The main difference here is that this meeting turned into a shouting match thanks to the conflicting stances of Naofumi as well as the Hakuko race itself. I do respect Atla from stepping up and letting her voice be heard, with words that the others in the meeting needed to hear so badly, but Jaralis was having none of that with his retorts and low opinion of the Hakuko race as a whole. He might be evil, but he is a bit cunning with his tactics. Thanks, the elder arrived to bring the chaos of the shouting to an end and wisely suggested that this matter should be settled with a duel. So Atla and Fohl will be taking on Jaralis and his Minatour ally who really wants Naofumi to marry his daughter. Seeing Naofumi panic and bed Atla and Fohl to win did make me burst out laughing, I must admit. XD Overall, this episode was good, but slightly dragging a bit. Still, it does perfectly set up the duel, so I do look forward to seeing how the siblings get on in this fight. I really do hope that they can win this. |

@Desmascarado it wasn't that the episode was bad, it's just adapting too slow. which is all fair, because even I agree they're dragging it a little too much now. We've already fleshed out Siltvelt and the new characters introduced. Although apparently Kinema did do this episode, but a bunch of different animators were working on it. Studio H4 only did the editing for this episode, but you can tell this got the least time spent on it. This will definitely be the 'worst' episode of the season compared to what's supposed to happen. Q'ten Lo also has its fair share of slice of life too, but it's actually done pretty good instead of politics in the same setting for 2 episodes straight. It is a little worrying though, but that does explain why this specific staff were listed to work on this episode. Most people are only noting the pacing and not the visuals, which is actually a good sign at the same time. Because to the normal eye I guess it does look normal to most people anyways, but an average viewer who really pays attention can definitely tell it's stiff and flat storyboards |

I hope it's something along the lines of this, more specifically from 0:55 onwards.👉🔥

So this situation has become more complicated. So the chef, Denny, was forced by Jaralis to poison everybody’s food and thanks to Ethan and Sadeena, his family is no longer being threatened. Jaralis is obviously pretty scummy and it seems everybody in this country is looking out for their own interests rather than serving the hero responsible for making their country the way it is now. Why are the politics here so convoluted that it takes Atla’s big speech to remind them who they are as a people and why they stand together? Elder Genmu came in just in time to calm things down, and now a duel is in place with a lot on the line. Firstly, if Fohl and Atla lose, Naofumi will belong solely to Siltvelt, and the White Tigers will lose their position as one of the four great races and be replaced by the Raio race. Not only that, but Naofumi will be forced into an arranged marriage. Either way, Naofumi’s party won’t be able to go to Q’Tan Lo if they don’t take care of this. Plus Fohl needs to learn everything regarding his father, since Jaralis was responsible for his downfall. This is heating up quickly. |

Well Naofumi did not talk much in this episode Atla did all of that for him. I was not expecting a rousing speech from her but it seems well appropriate for the situation at hand. They all do have a strong devotion to Naofumi since the Shield Hero is their god. We also got a glimpse of King Trash's past and how he used to be the staff hero. Loved the joke about the bull wife for Naofumi that made me crack a smile. Looks like a fight next episode and a possible one way ticket to Raphtalia's apparently native country. |

"he isnt the hero of time" just show the turtle shield as proof lol just curse of wrath on them all and steal a voat smh episode 4 will wrap up siltvelt arc hopefully, they're finally fighting you think? im imagining atla pulling an endless talk no jutsu mid fight about the divinity of shield hero, descrimination and morality and fohl pulling yet another endless talk about what it was done to their father, btw that and actually getting the ship ready and sail i unfortunately foresee 2 eps with terrible pacing. and for no reason honestly, bothing useful for the plot has happened or will happen from that fight, the only think watchers took from this detour is that there is a town of beastfolks that worships the shield hero, nothing more, thats it. no conection to rapthalia assassination attempt, no leads on the phoenix nothing on the emperor, smh. at least they kinda got a new white tiger ally? but i predict he will take back the position from the laios (jaralis) and stayvthere anyways so not rly. |

@Alex_the_reaper Judging by your comment, you haven't read the novel, so it's kind of stupid to say the arc is useless since it hasn't even finished. Obviously, the next episode will focus on Fohl and develop his character, and finally, this arc will serve to explain the origin of the Trigre brothers and establish Siltvelt as an allied nation in the future. I know of a spoiler or two, but I haven't read the novel from volume 13 onwards, so I deduced all of this just based on the trailers and episodes already released. |

@Desmascarado This episode was all meaningless dialogue typical of anime that has no real content but needs to make a 3 episode arc 12 episodes. Sorry but whatever character development that was made this episode could've be summarized in like 2 sentences. You're also spoiling future content which I am pretty sure is against the rules. |
