Welp, Arthur is getting stronger everyday, both physically and mentally. Hard to say exactly how strong he is yet but he's on the right track. Given his age, it's impressive he is able to handle magic like that.

There's a still a lot of family dynamics as part of the show. I feel like they really want the audience to understand Arthur's family more. The adventure stuff...meh, that part seems like what fantasy adventures has shown a lot of these years.

Yeah wow, what a dramatic ending that was, sure, whatever. But can we talk about this staff list for a second? FIVE, yes, FIVE FUCKING KAs... and 2nd KAs??? No, this is actually a joke of a production. Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if this was yet another outsourced episode like the last... oh wait, IT IS.

I've legit never seen anything like this before... what the actual fuck. And best believe, it only having 5 KAs is very apparent, the entire action scene is just stills and speed lines. Like LOL. I guess it kinda moved when bro was running and doing pushups… but that’s it? Are we DEADASS right now? Oh, and the plot is just as copy-paste as ever from Mushoku Tensei, because I KNOW that ain't Ghislaine, right???

Delete the anime. This is just… wow.

The story’s interesting, and Arthur’s strength is no joke to laugh at. But the animation during the fight… what can I say—it was so good, so good that I don’t wanna see it again.

It’s gonna be hard on his mother; she’s such a caring one too.

Damn, that ending—what even is that thing? Demon Lord or what!?

Surprisingly a good episode? The animation is pure dog shit, as always. I don't expect the series to have good animation at any point, but the story telling especially the OST was done super well.

What also surprised me was that there was more animation in the slice of life moments than action, the action moments were pure still frames. But every conversational / slice of life part of the episode, actually had animation in it. The CGI little Dinosaur Raptor looking things looked cool as well, the ost was amazing this episode too. Especially in that last quarter of the episode, good cliffhanger, it went by super quick. Honestly felt immersive, as long as the OST and story telling stay this way. I'm fine with the animation being sacrificed cause this was really enjoyable for me

Welcome Back Berserk 2016
@AriiTensei Berserk 2016 looks like a masterpiece compared to this. This feels less like an actual anime and more like a motion comic with sound effects. It barely qualifies as animation. I wanted to make fun of TBATE fans but I feel bad for them now. The music is good though. I really like it.

Lol'd throughout the entire slideshow compilation this was. What made me lol the loudest was when they encounter the bandits and they had the camera pan 3 times at them in quick succession like it was some Bollywood edit.

I'm still in the trial period with this show but I don't think it's going to get any better than what we have right now sadly. I don't read source materials but it sounds like the source is great and this show has butchered it.

The animation is meh and the heavy use of the slideshow battle scenes in this episode wasn't great. Also starting to dislike the heavy use of King Grey's voice because it just feels like the show is talking to you rather than trying to entertain you.

Second week in, my hopes aren't super high anymore. Will give it a few more weeks before I either put it on hold or drop to free up more time for other shows. Thankfully this season still has great shows airing.

As i think everyone is saying here, the fights DO really need to be better animated as watching them just feels wrong after reading the manhwa.
Still I'll continue to watch this and pray that it improves over time.

But what an episode, showing off how strong little Arthur is being able to go toe to toe with an adventurer.

I didn’t think it was possible for the animation quality to drop even lower than the first episode but here we are. The slideshow fight scenes and low effort CGI monsters are just too much for me. I was planning on continuing to watch for the high meme potential but I don’t know if I can stomach anymore tbh

I want to know what those 18 ppl loved about this episode. If we are not honest, how can the studio improve. All those still frames dont make any sense. certain sequences dont make sense like him charge up his legs to run away with his mother knowing she cant do that and in the very next scene the charged legs are gone as the regular run away. They didn't even bother drawing a rope and added that white line for the plot, like it's lil things that they could done better or with more thought that would significant improve the animation. for all the hype these past 2 episode just not living up.

People are using Rudeus as a reason to not watch Mushoku Tensei (rightfully so, since he is pretty abhorrent), however the portrayal of Arthur's past (Grey) isn't much better.

In the first episode: indiscriminate slaughter of civilians or military by bombing buildings.
In the second episode: execution of a mother and child due to the father attempting to harm him and the people calling it "mercy" for the mother and child. This implies three things:

  • He's a bad individual and other wants him dead.
  • He has murdered a lot of other individuals in cold blood, innocent or not.
  • These twisted ideologies is normalized in his world due to the reverence of "strength".

The anime's portrayal of Arthur's past, and about how he was should've been a later clause, not this early by making Grey look like an irredeemable bastard that just kills any chance of mine connecting with Arthur (anime Arthur). They should’ve saved that reveal until later.

And god damn it, switch Arthur's inner voice, really awkward to hear a 30+ year old man's dark voice coming from a kid.

if you watch it like normal isekai without having demon slayer level animation expectation, it's pretty enjoyable to watch. I like how MC is not a pervert lolicon trash like Rudeus, and is actually serious and learning new things which is shown pretty well as its hitting emotionally as well. Op theme is a banger man 🔥🔥

Once a king, now a normal person. There is a huge possibility that he can regain all his abilities and run the world.

He has a good chance with his parents, who are also magic users.

The monster from the final part of the episode was terrifying, can’t wait to see how Arthur will deal with it:)

The second episode of TBATE was very good. This anime doesn't need outstanding animation because it lives off its story. I find all this hate simply awful. If you don't like the anime, then just don't watch it, and please let those who do enjoy it have fun watching. The music is simply majestic and the story is good. One more small thing: The comparisons to Mushoku Tensei don't make sense to me, because the world structure and the characters themselves are different. I also think the story is better (and I'm talking about the story, not the animation). I hope that in a few weeks all the hate watchers will be gone and we can have serious, meaningful discussions again.

Fr, I understand it when he couldn't talk but he has talked now. They probably will keep gray's voice because now that they've used it, finding the correct timing to change it is hard, maybe they'll change it

Idk what people expecting but for an Isekai it's very decent. Animation isn't good but on the average side. My problem is pacing so far. It's my bad I am keep comparing this to Mushoku Tensie which is unfair. But so many things didn't need happening in one episode.

Who tf let a 4 year kid and pregnant women run alone. Let's assume they escape somehow WTF THEY GONNA DO IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Twinhorns (Beta Fang of the Black Wolf) you shouldn't losing to bandits is also embarrassing.
Jasmine girl is cute, she is taking Roxy part ig. I am waiting for ripoff Sylphy patiently.

Kinda ironic Mushoku/Rudy haters are here again to whine about "pEdOpHeLiA" where Arthur in past is brutal genocider. Which is 1000 times worse. Well in that regard I am glad this didn't got Studio Bind treatment so any comparison is dead before starting. Still I am enjoying it.

Damn, furukawa characteristically does have this sort of affected, nasal and draggy acting style, trying to be super cool and smooth and all, but add to that probably his lowest possible tone and the koyama rikiya sort of melancholic up-tone flick at the start of each sentence and it gets to be a bit too much. And on top of all that, the inner monologue and the actual voice are different?

I think every other reincarnation anime had it right on this matter. Should've used that voice in the flashbacks or something and given him the kid voice.

Okay, now that was one hell of a scary cliffhanger. I think this is the first anime where an ambush of bandits actually does something, instead of the usual isekai ones where the bandits just get rekt by the op mc, this time, it's actually a realistic one, where the good side loses due to the number disadvantage. That aside though, Arthur's monologue is still as hilarious as ever, his comments on every situation are hilarious. In any case, really excited about that monster at the end, curious to know what that actually is and what its purpose is.

I'm not a reader of the manhwa, but I've seen a few panels and the complaints from readers about the animation not saying it doesn't "do justice" to the manhwa is understandable. But honestly, I think some people are overreacting - what did they expect? It's not from a top-tier animation studio. I think it's decent, similar to most isekai released today. The trailers made it clear that the animation would be like this, and that any adaptation would skip parts of the story. At this point, it seems like people hate because they do just by comparing them to other works.

Personally, I found this episode to be better than the previous one. Grey's narration, as he reflects on his past beliefs and actions while living this new life as Arthur, was a strong point. Now that Arthur is separated from his family, I guess the real drama will begin.

6:35 should have been me not him

the series should be renamed to "The end after the beginning"

The SLIDESHOWS, the TERRIBLY RENDERED PNGS. Lord have mercy, I gotta be grateful the way s2 mushoku struggled 😂. ik it was gonna be bad, but it really one-upped itself, capcut effects looking ahh.

Wanted to rate it higher, but the animation is so bad, im so sure the animators put two shapes together and repeatedly pasted it onto the storyboard, them still frames as well etc.

Funny enough, tbate fans were so sure it would look better than mushoku, hopefully ep3 is somewhat better cause ik there gotta be more prioritized eps in this cour

This episode was weird. First they introduce the adventurer party as though they're going to be his teachers, and then they reveal that they're just going to be traveling with them as guards. And why did the carriages just jerk to a halt? There were no obstacles in front of them with which they collided. And then the "rope"-knife suddenly disappears as he's falling off the cliff, after he's already hooked it on the bandit's leg. I like some of the stuff it's doing but there were just a bunch of moments that just confused me. I hope it gets better, because I'm enjoying the basic plot, but if it continues to be so inconsistent and bewildering, I may have to drop this

The animation is really poor, this could be only acceptable 20 years ago. And I say it would have been acceptable, not something good.

But also the story is poorly used, many important details are left out, compared to the novel.

I consider dropping the anime. I want to grade it 4/10.

The novel is really one of the best series I have read, and I heard that the comic/manhwa is appreciated as well, but this anime won't do, we were better off without this.

Can't believe this is what the anime of a webcomic/webnovel as peak as TBATE came out as.
