Damn, unironically one of the best hand to hand fight scene this year. The sound design is immaculate and the choreography is great for a fight between kids.

@Mainnus This was one of the most legit kid fights in animation that I've seen. They're not choreographed like two seasoned martial artists you see in battle anime or joke attacks, they were kids doing random moves and dragging each others clothes and knock each other to the ground without holding back. Just like how real kids fight.

Another beautiful and quite heavy episode. I thought Uta’s dad was dead, but finding out that he was just a cheating scumbag was wild. Sadly an all too realistic scenario. But good on Uta’s mom for finally realising that bum wasn’t worth it and getting she and the kids out of there

Was not expecting that type of sakuga in that fight between Uta and Mikoto, very poignant scene. You can tell Uta needed that release after holding all that in for so long

I loved the scene with her mom explaining why she left at the end. She really talked to Uta in such a mature way.

Really great slice of life anime and drama and backstory is just right. Realistic even the kids' fight in this episode. Might be one of my favorites this season.

the gall of Uta's dad to flaunt his girlfriends in front of his kids that way, no wonder her mom nearly strangled her lol

Minato and Uta's friendship...didn't actually start out that way from the very beginning, at a time when the Yuzuki and Kirishima family were first getting along as opposite neighbours. Uta, more than the tomboy she is back then, is rebellious due to the new environment, and as much as Gakuto is friends with Waka, Minato tries to talk to Uta, but to no avail, and even Mikoto tries to talk him out of it. Things within the Kirishima family were haphazard since the divorce of their parents, which caused Uta to retaliate against his mother Kojiro, and eventually her friends from her old environment as well, which Minato just so happened to come perchance and overheard about it.

t's the same with Hayato and their family losing both their parents, which the eldest has been taking care of the trio of brothers ever since. Minato might not know how to translate that knowledge to Uta, and the only way how is through the typical childrens' way of violence, that Uta finally realized that she was in the wrong, and Kojiro has to explain to her of their divorce. But how Uta came to understand it...it was by perchance that she experienced this a lot with her dad and his swing, and it was essentially a kept secret until the reveal. From then on, they made up...and that rings the end of the Summer holidays, that Minato finally realized that Uta is a girl, though that really didn't bother each of them, and their bestie friendship carried onto this day.

Oh well...brocon or a relationship, Minato feels indifferent either way, or will he...?

I approve the staff who put attention to Uta and Mikoto fight scene. When a kids fight scenes usually only take 3 seconds, they animated it longer and better here.

Hope MAPPA never find out about this show's animators. That kids' fight totally slaps. You can even pinpoint the exact moment Uta started using her karate moves against Minato.

@Mainnus This show, even more than Pretty Cure, proves that among many shoujo animators there is dormant talent for battle shonens.

@Marinate1016 I don't know what impressed me more. The fact that Uta at that age be full cool ikemen onna or the fact that Minato’s crush on her was noticeably stronger when she had a more “masculine” type of appearance. Also, the way the family relationships were staged in this episode made me realize even more that this is shoujo.

@SHINOBI-03 Also notice how they animated the exchange of blows. This is probably the most realistic depiction of punching I've seen in anime. Without any effects or unnecessarily theatrical techniques.

Man, the plot, the character, the animation, the artstyle, the attrition to detail of this anime all rivals Frieren this season.
Why is this masterpiece of an anime so underrated/ undermatched this season?

Before watching this anime: Hmmm guess Frieren would be my anime of the season since there's not much competition.
After watching this anime: Yeah, Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyoudai is by far my favourite this season.
