Statement from report indicates that the show did not have enough trust due to plagarism and as such, the anime is discontinued.

Anime website and Twitter will be closed on 4/30.

**Welp** It’s for the best. It was a train wreck before it even premiered. Unfortunately, we may have to wait a couple more years for a new production. Hopefully, it goes to a more reliable studio.

Let's be real. No one wanted this to go to GoHands. Hopefully a way better studio can start over with it

I rather wait more a couple of years than get a half-assed adaptation by GoHands. I just feel very bad for all the animators and people in general involved in the project, so much time and work wasted, but in the end of the day I completely agree with CLAMP's decision.

GoHands is in rough spot and barely afloat for quite some time now.
They can't milk SYD forever. I'm afraid that it might be their final nail in the coffin.

I used to be a GoHands fan but stopped liking them after Handshakers, so I'm glad it got cancelled. I hope a new studio does it. In my opinion, Studio Deen would be good for it, if they do the animation similar to Hakkenden then they would do a good job with this anime.

I think this is the first time I've ever heard someone say that they'd prefer Deen over another studio, though I guess that's valid in the case of Gohands lol

Give it to Madhouse or Production I.G. just like the good old days. But I guess they want to do it cheap.

Honestly I'd prefer Deen for these kind of stuff as they've been doing such things with pretty decent results as long as they don't outsource too much and have the right people are in the production pipeline. Even their low-scoring stuff as of late (Bakumatsu, Wakaki Nobunaga, Reikenzan, Orphen) seem to have neater production values than GoHands.

Even if Madhouse had history with CLAMP, I don't think they're a good fit given how severe the brain drain in there and on how horrible their post production values became as of late. Besides, they don't attract talents that much unlike before.

I'm more interested on who will be behind the whole production. I won't mind if the likes of 8bit or Satelight does this (MAPPA's out of the question in this case) as long as the people behind it are capable enough to deliver.

If there's someone who should be carried over to the reboot, it's Noriyuki Asakura. It's been a while since he did a score and his works are just as juicy as Kenji Kawai. It's a huge waste of talent if he's also scrapped.

You realise that giving it to Madhouse would be the exact definition of going cheap right?

Damn it I was really looking forward to it being animated. But if it means we'll get a better studio, then it's worth the wait I guess. I'm just sad

Yeah, I also don't understand the plagiarism thing. Why is a rework considered a plagiarism?

That's all they do though :D GoHands is a place where aesthetics go to fester and die. These people had years to learn basic cinematography and maybe stop drawing ridiculous art just because they can. They've barely sold anything and it was time to put an end to it.

They should ditch the 2021 idea and just adapt the source material as if it's 1991. It would be very nice to see plus you cannot beat 90s CLAMP fashion.

YES EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING
I hope that the plagiarism case make them re-think the idea of adapting the story in 2021, I mean many people love the 90's aesthetic especially right now so yeah it would be v popular just for the aesthetic itself

Madhouse did good with Clear Card adaptation, wasn't bad at all.

"after discussions with CLAMP and the production committee, we decided to restart with a completely new production system."

Although I google translated this it looks like there still will be some sort of adaptation of Tokyo Babylon. But I am confused can someone explain what the plagiarism are? And why people think this anime is going to be created by GoHands?

Shouldn't the trailer made by go hands have its own entry than if its just it and has nothing to do with it anymore?

mother of god, i'm gonna have to wait one hundred million years (idk why i wrote one hundred million years, it just seems to describe my pain of waiting the best) for an actual successful tokyo babylon adaptation. this hurts so bad... i ain't gon lie, i'm so in love with clamp that i'll take literally any hot trash, bad animation, good animation, whatever- doesn't mean i wouldn't be complaining but... damn... well... i guess it must happen, for the best results...

Looking forward to the new production with better everything even if it takes a few years. Give me the chance to read the manga and watch the 1999 live action movie.

Oh, I had just been deciding if I want to watch it or not. I did quite like the manga, the OVA was memorable to me as one of the first non-TV dubbed and edited anime I've seen, though obviously not as good as the manga. But now, seems I won't have to decide, unless...

So, is this to be made later like the X manga will continue later or will we actually get it? I guess time will tell unless someone has news of a new team actually working on it.

I also agree. I'd prefer Studio Deen for, especially BL...
Anyways, so to conclude, GoHands has completely dropped it? I had been waiting for too long.

Either GoHands will make Another Disaster, Milk K to the ground or Milk SYD to the ground (no problems here).

It's a real shame tbh, their animation is actually pretty good. It's just like.. they're trying to give their viewers epilepsy or something.

And just when I was joking with myself telling "Hah. Babylon 2021, let's have a Babylon 2022 starting next month".
But... I'm not laughing anymore seeing it cancelled.
I really enjoyed clamp's work and the dark BL's vibe if this series... I am sad and really mad at Gohands. Really.
Clamp's universe is really creative and fashionable THEY JUST HAD TO pick in the existing artwork FFS!
And their twitter are now completely void...

Don't commit plagiarism, kids, as tempting as it may be. Everyone just ends up suffering for it.

Also perplexed that they just didn't stick to 90's costume designs from CLAMP. Like those are fucking amazing??? Oh well, their loss.

It could very well be Tokyo Babylon 2031 at this point. Oh, please no! Any updates?

people are talking about it being stolen, but the plagurism (as far as we know) was three specific cases regarding k project (in artwork, not in the anime itself). I saw the picture and it looked like cards from a gacha or merchandise or something, possibly even outsourced to someone else to do. Still, it's incredibly disappointing to see. I hope they will choose another studio soon, though they probably already put funds into this one and it might make them wary of continuing.

If this version is canceled and the next one will be made from the ground up with a different team, making it a different version than this would have been, doesn't that mean that this entry should no longer be on this site?

I wasn't even aware there was a reboot in the making. *insert very wide eyed expression here*
Got here by looking at the other roles of a Wind Breaker seiyuu and damn boy, he'd be perfect for Seishirou.
First was hella hyped for a new adaptation, then concerned about the "2021" title & modern design, lastly, baffled at the plagiarism and hiatus news.
Not suprised at all tho, it's Clamp's curse, all their best, older works are dead and wrecked by now - X, Clover, and now this new TB project.
As someone already suggested, 90's style cannot be beaten, they should just stick to it instead of 'generic BL-esque art #324'.
Hopefully we'll see a new AND proper Subaru-sama sooner or later.

Watching, waiting, commiserating
