VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE

That was a pretty decent arc I thought.

Overall I liked the arc. However the final battle between the gods was cheezy. I respect that the hero's goal was not completely granted by end. The gods he protected, left! But he did succed in protecting the village.

Hi no Tori Samma played Very Very Little in the entire arc. "Sorry, I can't be involved" Well then, sorry, but shouldn't this arc have been in another anime?

This was a nice arc. Too many characters were introduced that I could hardly keep up.

Though why didn't he know that the wolf at the end was Mariko?

I'm siding with granny on this one. He shouldn't have left... but I understand why he did.

I find this arc the best until now. Inu-gami-sama was by far the most resourceful hero until now and I found him more rational and self controlled than the rest of the heroes from this series.

I was really impressed with this last battle because it reminded me of Iliad of Homer. In Iliad you had the heroes fighting with the gods by their side. That's why it surprised me to see, in this arc, the old gods fighting the power of Buddha, although, even if I don't know much about Buddhism, it intrigued me to see that a Buddhist priest had so flashy powers. He seemed more like a shaman to me. I thought Buddhism was something more discrete.

I really loved the idea said by the Phoenix, that people are turning religions into weapons to serve their own desires. I never thought this in these simple words, but I truly believed it in my heart. Osamu Tezuka is a genius!

Lovely conclusion. Inugami one of the best characters so far.

I don't enjoy the pacing of their adaptation. they kept the most essential and create something around it. There was a lot of material to begin so doing it 3-4 episodes is admirable.
it's not my favorite arc in the manga either, so there's that.

The pacing as usual was way too fast for me to process anything yet the story overall was good.
Jeez another bittersweet ending, Tezuka was depressed at this time surely.

This arc is hands down the best of the series. It's got everything: Civil War, a real hero, mythology, and even romance. The ending, though, leaves you with a lot of questions. As usual, it ends up being bittersweet. It's not very dramatic or pessimistic (it was already customary for the main characters to die), but it doesn't end in a very orthodox way. Our lovelorn protagonists are left in an undefined state.

It's pretty obvious by the end that our main character lost his memory and forgot about the wolf gods (and his fiancée). He's still got this deep-down wish to find her and head north, but he's not sure why.

I hope you don't mind, then, if I tell you about the changes made to the story. I know you said you won't be reading it.
Sun manga alternates between two stories, one which is entirely cut from the anime. In order to conclude both stories at once, the hero meets a different fate at the end of the manga. Beneath the spoiler are the last lines of Sun. These proved to be the last lines in all of Phoenix.

I could not keep from tearing up as I typed that.

@Lucifrost Yes, I do care, but for the better. Thanks for the info, but now let me take advantage of your knowledge of this franchise (I've spent several days theorizing and racking my brains): What is the context of this ending you're showing me? Does Inugami also lose his memory in the manga? Don't Robita and Saruto from the last arc match the ones from the Resurrection arc in episode 5? I read that the ending of the Future arc was different and conveyed a different message. How much is that true?

I just realized after finishing this series that the author is also the one behind Astro Boy, Black Jack, and Kimba. I mean, what a genius!

It immediately follows the resolution of the secondary conflict that was cut from the anime.

Yes.

They do in the manga. I don't remember anime Resurrection very well. A lot was cut.

Major events are the same, but my understanding of the story changed due to cuts and rewritten details. When watching the anime, I found Future to be the most dissatisfying of the 5 storylines.

Dawn and Strange beings are adapted more faithfully. I think Dawn only cuts the comic relief.

So, we can say that they die (to be free and be together), like Masato in the Future Arc.

They do in the manga. I don't remember anime Resurrection very well. A lot was cut.

I was wondering about this because in the Resurrection Arc of the anime, Robita (a human turned robot) is shown a flashforward at the end of the series. In it, he supposedly ends up living 100 years later in a human colony on Mars. However, in the Future Arc, Robita never leaves Earth and ends up destroyed as Masato's last companion. Does this happen in the manga? If that's the case, then the characters are different, and there's no connection between the stories.

Masato waits billions of years for intelligent life to evolve from cells. The anime removes this nuance in favor of a creationist ending.
Dawn and Strange beings are adapted more faithfully. I think Dawn only cuts the comic relief.

I guess they changed that in the anime to make the poor zombie Masato's long torture seem meaningful ^^

I'm sorry to bother you, dude, but I still had these doubts that wouldn't go away. I don't want to waste your knowledge on the subject.
