now it's all good to reflect yourself to this, and this might be eye-opening some people who are just like lost as shinji (which is not many).
i am not here to see shinji's psychological growth. i mean it's good to see the bitch of a character get some development. but the whole ending deticated to this? Nahhh

what i wanted was a proper conclusion to the story. what's with seele, adam, lilith , gendou's plan , asuka and rei's future. not this psychological garbage that may relate to human instrumental project of gendou

i know that there's a movie that will provide an alternative ending to the story. but this was not an ending.

i hope movie would do a justice. else im utterly disappointed in this series.

I don’t have a strong connection between the last two episodes, but let’s get started. The anime’s art style is very impressive — I’m a big fan of the 80s–90s style. The anime has real complexity and character depth. The character development is good, though a little unclear, especially if you watch it all in a short period (like less than a month).

The anime focuses on the dark sides of the characters, which I think is a good thing. The main character confused me a lot of the time. He really made me question myself — like, what the hell is wrong with him? or why is he acting like that?

As for Rei, I wish the anime focused more on her character and her personal life. The boss (Shinji's father)... I hated him so much. He’s so unpleasant and shitty. He slept with half the female characters, and I don’t even understand why they want him. Maybe because of his power and money? Still, he’s a motherf***er, and I hate him. He hurt all the characters without exception.

But also, that means the character writing is done well.

The ending is a happy one, but not entirely satisfying. I liked how the main character accepted himself, but I still don’t fully get what happened exactly. It’s a good anime — maybe a bit confusing, especially with how it speeds up and slows down at certain points.

In my opinion, I wish there were more episodes. The story needed more than just 26. I’ve now discovered there are movies and more content — that makes sense now.

Overall, it’s a good anime. Maybe a bit overrated, but I love it. I’d give it a 7.5 to 8 out of 10. Yes, I have high standards. And that’s it. I know no one will even see this comment, but anyway...

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I've put this off for a few years but now that I've finally finished it, I can say it's definitely a bit overhyped but without a doubt has some great value to it.

It seems like most people either absolutely love the ending and consider it one of the best, or absolutely hate it, so I’m going to be contrary and say I enjoyed it but still think it’s flawed.

The biggest problem with the last two episodes is that we have no idea how we got here. One minute the last angel is defeated, we realize the big thing in the basement is Lilith (which humans are apparently born from) and Adam is a fetus (that gave birth to the angels), the next episode starts and apparently instrumentality is already happening? Did Shinji just go to bed one night and wake up in a mindfuck?

Of course, I know the reason for this is the budget issues and I assume EoE will answer my questions when I watch it tonight, but if anything it’s even more disorienting knowing it wasn’t the original intent. I wondered at every repeated frame where artistic choice ended and budget problems began.

To be clear though, I think they did a good job with what they had and the journey through Shinji’s mind into accepting himself is critical to the story, it needed to be here, I just would’ve liked a little more context. I actually found the last two episodes pretty cathartic as I can see aspects of myself in Shinji and even Asuka. Some of their thoughts were things I’ve actually believed about myself…
