Fuck you, Poplin! I'm 17 years old, and I worry that I will never get a girlfriend.

2021 rewatch

Very informative discussion between Yang and Julian on the bench, especially that bit where Yang realized that he had been assuming that the Fezzanese are rational realists. They are on the path to figuring out the connections between Fezzan and the Terraist church (though it is more complicated with Rubinsky thinking he could outsmart them).

Why would Fezzan support the Empire against the Alliance if the Empire could invade Fezzan with the inertia of victory over the alliance? Because ideology and religion (Terraism) is at odds with the realpolitik that Fezzan has been using to preserve itself.

From Yang to Poplin to the Schönkopf, all the people that taught Julian bid him farewell.
Rosenritter offer him their patch as he's a semi-member and Schönkopf gives him a proper knife.

Even Baghdash, who tried to assassinate Yang in episode 21, gives Julian advice as an intelligence-gatherer.

Alcohol is humanity's friend, indeed.

after lots of reinhard episodes, this episode reminded me why yang is so good character.
he basically told julian to see who's right in their way more. it's actually returning me to the 1st opening theories where julian looks at reinhard. if the theory of julian going to side with the empire, it isn't far from now.

the rest of the episode however felt slow. i really missing the episodes from s1, where every episode was eventful.

First post in this site… just so I can register my love for this show

Episode 39 showcased why every single character feels so real in Legend Of Galatic Heroes. Through Julian, we can connect to everyone at Isenhorn, and they all share a nice moment with the kid (now a young adult, time flies). Personally, I see him as the true main protagonist of the series, in the middle of the righteous Reinhardt and the brilliant Yang Wenli.

Speaking of the latter, what a great mentor. Flawed, no doubt, but also truly fascinating. His wine addiction strengthen my opinion that he is this universe’s Tyrion Lannister. His dialogue with Julian was very good, even the (sometimes) forced foresight worked in this one. I really wish we see this duo back someday.

I could go on about all the things this episode did right, but instead I’ll just say I’m glad I started this show in the first place, over a month ago. Despite some complains (like the exaggerated foresight I mentioned early), this has been a fantastic journey.

For now, this is it. See you, space soldier.

Really beautiful episode, the whole Julian's departure was done so nicely and maturely. Hope he achieves some great things in Phezzan

Yang being worried is understandable but hopefully nothing bad happens

I legit almost busted a tear during this episode. Very moving sendoff for Julian, who is just about the purest individual in the galaxy. Be safe on Phezzan. And don't grow up too fast!
