I'd add Mahavishnu Orchestra to the list. Great jazz fusion band.

Interestingly long list there. I'll check some of them out on random. Are Samla Mammas Manna and Ragnarök swedish perchance?

yep. especially Samla Mammas Manna is great. they do Rock in opposition/ Avant Garde. they are lively, technic, funny, everything you can imagine, just like Gong but more complex. Ragnarök is rather more soft, chilly like Harmonium, but great too.

if you like more experimental stuff i recommend German kraut rock scene. or if you like more of a symphonic rock like Yes or Camel, Italian bands are just what you are looking for.

Oh I love everything. It's hard to find music I dislike. Samla Mammas Manna are indeed listenable, although what I've got my hold on is rap-ish. Nonetheless, I'll try to dig some in the music shops for them.

Also, the list needs Mannfred Mannns Earth Band! Great they are.

I'm going to recommend albums instead, not every band has a flawless career and usually a bad or mediocre album can turn someone away from an otherwise amazing band.

Aphrodite's Child - 666 (Vangelis side project from Greece, one of my all-time favorites)
Quella Vecchia Locanda - Il Tempo Della Gioia
Nektar - A Tab In The Ocean
Focus - Focus III
Harmonium - Si On Avait Besoin D'Une Cinquième Saison
Gentle Giant - Octopus
Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei
Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
Camel - The Snow Goose
Emerson, Lake And Palmer - Emerson, Lake And Palmer

a prefer Remember The Future from Nektar and Moonmadness from Camel but oh my god Si On Avait Besoin d'Une Cinquieme Saison is a marvelous album, definitely one of my favorites. anyways, funny thing is i heard Histoire Sans Parole couple of times as the intro song of some tv shows in my country, as well as a singer stealing the flute solo putting it in to his album.

Weather Report guys, Weather Report! They are gods. Recently got Heavy Weather, freakin' divine album.

Les Razilles Dénudés are also very nice if you can find anything by them. Psychedelica heavy like migraine, but more enjoyable.

Funny, I just picked that album up not too long ago. I'm probably going to get around listening to it sometime later this week. I've been listening to a lot of stuff like Magma, Sotos, Art Zoyd and the like.

Neat. Eros is VERY hard to get into, and it might take a few listens for you to get used to it (but then it might not, you never know). Eskaton, Weidorje, and Zao are all fantastic as well.

If I can listen to Art Zoyd and Henry Cow, I don't think Dun would present a challenge. Loved it, by the way.

SOME AMAZING PROG METAL. Seriously, listen to every last one of these bands, it's REALLY worth it.

God-tier: Leprous, TesseracT, Vildjharta, Gru (also goes by Piotrek Gruszka), Ihsahn, Animals As Leaders, Meshuggah, SikTh

More good bands: Periphery, Wide Eyes, Fellsilent, Cloudkicker, Amorphis, Between the Buried and Me

I'm just gonna leave out prog rock because 1: Most of you probably know all the good bands, plus they're probably listed in other posts, and 2: I'm not as into prog rock.

I could probably list progressive death metal bands, and progressive deathcore bands as well, but I'm not as into them, I'll edit the post and add a few of those too if you guys like.

I'm honestly surprised you guys didn't list any of these bands .-. Well, unless you know, you guys hate djenty stuff or something >_>. You can blame Periphery copiers, Veil of Maya (who really are pretty meh to start off with) copiers, and such. I know, Sumerian records kinda sucks.

PLEASE LISTEN! :D xP

There are three bands I am quite fond of.

Suspyre. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspyre They have four albums.

Tempestt http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/tempestt They only have one album.\

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinth_%28band%29 They have 7 albums.

No one mentioned Sigh yet?

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Sigh/51

One of the best (and for sure my personal favourite) avant-garde metal bands out there.
Except for their demos and the first album, which was Black/Trash Metal with eerie keyboards, everything released by them couldnt fit the description of progressive metal more.
They include saxophone, organ, sitars, pianos, choirs and who the fuck knows what else, hell, even an orchestra in some songs.

Highly recommended albums:
Hangmans Hymn
In Somniphobia
Imaginary Sonicscape

Cynic and Aeon Spoke

Cynic is like as prog as it gets. Their first album is like Progressive/Technical Death Metal/Chill/jazz Fusion. Now they're more of just Progressive metal but they're amazing. Aeon Spoke is a side project with the 2 members of Cynic playing Rock/chill pretty good.

Yeah good idea, some fusion bands would be nice to add to any progheads collection.
Brand X (Phil Collins on drums :>)

Return to Forever (frankly easier to get into than most jazz fusion)

or anything with Allan Holdsworth in it
