Aren't you being a bit harsh on this episode? It's not like it was encouraging girls to be aneorexic or anything, it seemed a bit of the opposite really, with the evil guys being the ones to make fun of them for being fat and her crush telling her that he liked chubbier girls. I guess every 90s needs an eating disorder tutorial episode... Every girl was making fun of the fat girl of the group too, and she was barely above normal weight. Oh and don't forget teaching Usagi that it's ok if she doesn't lose weight, because a boy would like her body chubbier... Why does everything have to revolve around men at the end of the day? I tried to make excuses in my head about this episode (maybe this is an actual attempt at tackling this issue? standards sure were low huh) but I just can't. I'm sorry to every fat girl who grew up having to watch shit like this :/ It's so sad how ingrained bigotry is in so many children's shows and it's telling how people over 20 years later were making excuses for it! sad, just sad I'll still stick to this show, I hope the later seasons are better about sexism. |
