It is a good anime series. You can stream it off of Crunchyroll. I enjoy it for the dark plot. I think the girls in it are all good waifu material. I especially like Homura Akemi.

I also collect the manga of Madoka Magica. Are you surprised that I like this series? Do you like it, too?

The first season was the only very good one imo. The rest of the franchise is a mixed bag.

Yes I do, the 1st season was brilliant, the movie although good from a character standpoint should have gotten a sequel by now and I didn't bother to watch the spin-offs due to their abysmally low ratings

Somewhat, but it takes 10 episodes to get good.

I've only watched the first season and I didn't really care for the plot or the characters. The OST was really nice.

@Rakshain
Saya copied Phoenix which was not written by Urobuchi.

It's one of my favorite anime. Went into it unspoiled and got the intended experience. Everything from Shaft's animation to the art style and OST lend themselves to the atmosphere.
Magia by Kalafina, the ending theme is a beautiful song. Good stuff, I should check out the new ones.

@desusama Yeah pretty much! I watched the first season about a month ago. Exactly how I feel about it. I should check out the new ones.

I didn't seem to like it. Probably a large part of that would be due to shaft and the nature of their style.

I liked it back on 2015 but not anymore, no. I want to watch the upcoming movie to see if the plotline ends there.

I do like the witch aesthetics and music though.

the show was good until it turned full yuri, movie 3 makes homura disgusting, I hope movie 4 fixes this shit and deletes the yuri.

I really enjoyed the series but I especially loved the Rebellion movie, I also thought Magia Record was pretty good though it clearly doesn't reach the same heights that the main works did.

Nah Ive always considered it trash, is beyond me that people think Madoka is dark when its soft core PG 13 gore trash with everything happening either as a silhouette or half off screen and is rushed as fuck with it being just 12 episodes
There is better stuff to watch like Higurashi and Mirai Nikki if you want the same plot but better characters, pacing and especially dark elements along with gore

Rozen Maiden was better. No one talks about it anymore even those with a Suiseiseki avatar.

Not really. It's been a distinct deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre, but like most trends it's overstayed its welcome IMO.

I love the show but the characters are too block-headed in design to be waifu material.

@Deknijff Darkness is not just about splatter, and it's pretty reductive to boil horror down to some kind of endurance test of how much violence and cruelty you're willing to tolerate, and of course Madoka isn't intended that way because otherwise it wouldn't have the bittersweet ending. The darkness in Madoka Magica comes from understanding that you're watching children being tricked into being complicit in their own violent exploitation and the dread of watching the trap close around them while they're still unaware they're inside it, along with the steady realisation of the unfeeling, relentless, industrial scale of it. I don't need to see explicit child murder to be horrified by the idea of system powered by consuming them. Urobuchi's three top tier works in anime, Madoka, Fate/Zero, and Psycho Pass, are all about the horror of systems that are indifferent to the violence they require. They are also all about how even in the face of such immense violence, the right person in the right place can always make decisions that make things better. They are all dark but they are not nihilistic, and this is a quality I rather like about them.
"The suburbs dream of violence. Asleep in their drowsy villas, sheltered by benevolent shopping malls, they wait patiently for the nightmares that will wake them into a more passionate world." - JG Ballard, Kingdom Come (2006)

Of course character and themes are important when it comes to horror or grim dark series but gore is an important aspect too, The Thing of course is one of the greatest horror movies ever made due to the suspense along with the implantation of the fear of the other
But the movie wouldn't really be able to fully convey that without all the gore to show how truly scary the monster is so the fear is justified with its abilities

Madoka on the other hand is constantly trying to show how dramatic certain scenes are with mental break downs or deaths

yet they are undermined with them not truly showing the horror of the consequences like here since not showing the full extent of what should be the factual reality for the characters but also the third person viewer

Madoka Magica is an anime that’s kinda soured on me over the years. I was really into it when I first saw it but I think I was kinda blinded by hype and there are some things that don’t work for me when I think about it now. It’s like an 8/10 series (I guess I should rewatch it). I don’t think I’ll be queuing up at the cinema to watch the new movie.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a masterpiece that turns the magical girl genre on its head! It’s not just about frilly outfits and cute spells; this series has some deep serious shit . And Homura Akemi? She's not just any magical girl—she's the queen of mystery and determination. That time manipulation of hers? Very Powerful

Oh yeah. I watched it two time, Sub and dub. I also read the manga. I listen to Sis Puella Magica! and Decretum. Over and over again.
