| Well, it's kinda interesting the relationship and bonds Ichiyou has been building over the course of this show so far. Not to mention some of the more mysterious characters in this show too... Their world is feeling more mysterious too with each episode. He and Sontou has an amusing relationship that could be expanded further. |

| Honestly, the biggest obstacle I have to enjoying this story is probably Ichiyou's personality. He's just... Extremely unlikable to me for some reason. Whether it's a scene where I'm supposed to feel bad for him - like when Shiro or Hakushuurin was taken away from him - or meant to admire him - like when he exorcises the gods - all I ever manage to muster up is a very mild, "I see. Okay?" kinda reaction. I had some hopes that once we found out about Tenkou's past, he'd become something more than simply Ichiyou's most powerful punching bag, but now they're saying that his original personality was simply erased and replaced with whatever makes him the most powerful punching bag!? Well, I'll keep going for a bit longer because the worldbuilding seems interesting, but so far my emotional investment in Haigakura is zero. It could stop getting broadcast tomorrow and my only reaction would be, "I see. Okay?" |
| I keep anticipating young Ichiyo to shout "dattebayo" for some reason... Another good episode. |
| Ichiyo's first task alongside the Head of Poets, Sonto, to capture one of the Four Evils of Souryu, and it's fair to say that for someone young and ambitious of an up-and-coming poet, the divine beast having to save the kid from him trying to break his seal with his Purification, the two have a mutually beneficial exchange that as Sonto would discover, the purification is unlike anything ever seen before. And that's how he met Tenko. On the other hand, freeing his pet Shiro from the cusps of the Queen Mother of the West, Ichiyo definitely got the short end of the stick, not to mention Sonto's assistant Ryusei training Tenko to become the idiot he's now known for. And Hakusyurin to become the next Queen, it certainly betrays Ichiyo that he got to this point, and the attendant that he'd wanted for so long, has become someone even greater. Lots of politics at play, but not to the graces of the up-and-coming poet... |
