I have more extensive lists on AniDB, if anyone's curious. There I've favourited characters and series, and since its rating system allows for more accurate scoring, my ratings there reflect my actual measures of the anime I've watched.

I'm an avid manga reader, but use Manga Updates exclusively for my lists. I review/comment on manga quite often, but have yet to write anything on an anime.

I score based on (1) story/plot and (2) characters/personal enjoyment. I have little knowledge on animation, sound effects and voice acting, so whatever looks and sounds good gets a thumbs-up from me regardless of actual technical merit. Not being a fan of love stories, I rarely pick up anime with prominent romance/fanservice/smut; any other genre I'm perfectly game for. Series rated 6 or above I consider okay-to-great. Between 6 and 4 is average-to-mediocre, and anything below that is terrible. I don't rate dropped titles unless they particularly offend me in some way.
