The beginning seemed kinda basic at first but the lore of the 5 wizards hooked me into the story. I'm so excited to watch more! Easily has the potential to be a great isekai

I really like everything about the adaptation . They did an excellent job . Personally I noticed two things that bothered me : 1. They softened Will's face even more in the anime even it wasn't needed to the point that I couldn't spot who was the Will and who was the female student (aka they took the femboy route). Also they made Will's glasses even bigger in some scenes to thhe point that they made him look silly to say it nicely .

Must say I much preffered the premise and world building of Danmachi. Lots of similarities in the setting and the structure though. This one got the benefit of crazy good animation and art so it'll probably do better.

As scambolireviews put it, every scene looks as glorious as a genshin impact promo- and damn he is right. The animation is gorgeous; not so much the art style which is nothing noteworthy, but the fluid motion to any and all movements is just so gratifying to watch. Everyone can and are agreeing that from a production standpoint, this show is delivering. At least for this first episode, might be a case of the detective is already dead where they clickbait us with surreal animation in the first episode and the rest just falls flat on its face. But so far am not seeing anything of the sort, and the next couple episodes which are currently out seem to have been received in similar manner. Now looks-wise, of course it's kind of a marvel. Everything else, however... eh.....

It's generic as f*ck. We got the guy who can't use magic in a world where magic is the be-all end-all, but turns out is actually quite strong regardless, for reasons currently unknown. We've got the childhood friend who the main character has somewhat grown apart from as they, usually a she, have grown far past him in terms of capability and sits near or at the top of the power rankings of their world (idk actually how common this is, but I just recently finished Kaiju No. 8, so it must be common, since everything in that show is pretty generic asf too). We of course got the generic city/town with the multiple layers of walls, we got the generic bullies who hate main character just because he's different, and some more minor things that don't matter too much but you get the point. It really is nothing special, but again the animation is just so freaking good that it feels like a waste to pass this up even though the story and characters are as mundane as we've seen a hundred times before. Unless maybe there's a reason for it being as so....?

Not going to hold out hope for too long, but I'm going to bet that maybe they wanted to get all said generic stuff out of the way in the first episode. Check off the boxes, get it over with, gather a large audience with an easy-to-understand-and-consume first episode that also looks amazing, and then move on from there with the story they really want to tell. Maybe from here, we will no longer completely follow the cookie-cutter formula and instead tell a story that's genuinely captivating. Who knows; like generic bully might still be generic bully from here on out, but he got his life saved in the very first episode, so for sure we can count on him at least not being totally the same as before. Stuff with the teacher will also progress as he witnesses Will's power through that convenient orb. It does make you groan a little to see a character behave in the manner as "no, MAGIC should be the strongest thing in the world, GRRRR", like with no open-mindedness whatsoever, they legit are just a bot. But hey at least we can assume that things will indeed happen... just no telling how predictable things are going to be. How predictable will the predictability be? Maybe less talk and more watching. Probably will have a good grasp on things by watching the next episode.

For now though, for the first episode at least, it's your typical borderline boring 'underdog' anime set in a magical fantasy land which would have probably been an instant drop if not for the superb visuals. That said, kudos to the animation department, because they are currently what's keeping this worthy enough to keep watching.

erm what. who is the clown (or even author, wtf is this underdog story?) that make the curriculum where you need to pass three course by gaining credit from them, but also add non-course source of credit that you can get without properly passing the course, heck you don't even set a minimal amount of credit to pass in each course, making it possible to completely passing only by taking external source. It's a goddamn magic school, how the hell can you set a rule where non-mage could graduate as well.

EP 1

Soo uh. i dont know much about this anime, apparently its very interesting?
The anime has a really curious air time as well

Soo yeah shenanigans in ep 1
I see they were saving all their budget
So we have a super talented mage and then mr mc instead is just really good at melee combat

So yeah uh, its ep 1, not really much to say. Mr mc is really good at sword, really bad at magic, and then uhh I dunno whats gonna happen, something something, tropes, budget, etc. Really depends on what happens in the next few eps.
They had a 2 week gap between ep 3 and 4 so hopefully no shenanigans happen there
The cover visual is kinda misleading shrugg

Animelist doesnt have it listed as 12 eps though hmm. I'm just gonna assume its 12 eps for now

Guy's don't have any respect, dude is only one with a cat!
My guess is that one teacher got an exemption for the familiar to be around him for monitoring purposes.

Sounds like some scumbag society with scumbag students and teacher. This society is doomed to fall if they put 100% stats into magic and magic alone (luckily school system appears to value a little more than that as why this guys a student). Having someone intelligent in magic in itself is very valuable as can train/lead others. Not only that, but having another class, warrior, is extremely beneficial to their survival.

Those two childhood friends must be busted together. Nice the other honors student is a good person.

just another ridiculous and childish shonen, kids really don't care about anything other than cute girls and boys with a pathetic personality, have you ever thought about creating something different? a world that isn't actually Japan with a new skin, with a population with different customs and civilizations, fantasy and adventure, y'know? and creating things that already exist doesn't make you an author, this isn't original work, much less good
and even though the animation is good, the script is worse than the story, dogshit

This went unbelievably hard for how generic it is
- Will is such a cutie patootie, love him. Don’t want another Asta
- The girl who sticks up for him seems very stereotyped
- The fight at the end was pretty damn cool

One of the current series I started watching on a whim on YT. LOL

Looks like Mash...magic-less MC with physical prowess potential and trying to be top on a well-defined magical and societal order, and hierarchy.

You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

So being a show that feels like a mix of at least 3 other shows you've already watched puts it at kind of an unfair disadvantage, meaning it needs to put itself apart. It seems like it could, the MC design is kind of whacky especially how he's like identical when he was a small kid even the glasses. But I like the goggles, and even for someone who generally puts animation quality as like "extra" and barely even notices when it changes or becomes bad. Even I can see this animation looks pretty good. As for the plot, the ending was a bit disappointing, I had hoped he'd rely more on invention, ingenuity, creativity and such but he's also just crazy strong. Which pulls him more towards Asta, Mash, Noor etc. After watching "I parry everything" my brain couldn't help but hear Noor's VA screaming "PARRY" when he blocked the attack there at the end. But clearly they didn't physically design him to be buff, so I do hope they keep the focus away from sheer strength for the most part, either that or at least make him a little buff RN it just looks a little silly to see a skinny kid with his tiny sword push back against this thing. (it even has some aspects of Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in the dungeon (his motivation sort of but also the "minotaur" coming from a lower floor in episode 1, the big tower, small things like that), it really feels like a mix of not just 3 shows but like 10 I've already watched most of them tbf are just "kid without magic want to become wizard" but there's also things that remind me of really different shows but I just don't quite remember which. Like I said, it has to try to stand out of it wants to kind of "copy" a lot of basic ideas and designs from other shows.)

HOLY FU– definitely one of the best episode 1 I've ever seen.
The world setting is pretty classic, but it feels like it's been a while since I became hyped and excited for a Magic Academy anime right from the very first episode, the pacing of the story was very great and ofcourse the animation was insane.

And seems like this has the same author of Danmachi (actually my final trigger to finally watch it lol), and I can see some similarities. The walled city with a tower in the middle, dungeon floors, a beautiful lady atop the tower watching over the MC, "Minotaur fight" and ofcourse an MC that is pretty extraordinary.

I hate how there's already 2 heroines from the start and now its hard to ship gdi

Overall I like the premise, fantasy magic academy anime is so fucking back. Time to binge everything.

Eh, that's a really good start actually, reminds me of Mashle's story where the world is ruled by magic but the MC is unable to use it however he is so physically strong that he can perform better than with magical powers... that's nice, and he already defeated a powerful monster in the dungeon, the animation is really good, it's 1st episode though so I hope it will be consistent, also I like the main goal to climb and become a Magia Vander to join the girl he made a promise with during his childhood, promising 1st episode!

There's some stellar combat animation in here... so it's a real shame everything else was already done head-and-shoulders better in Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (which also has stellar combat animation).

Just zero believability to be found in the character behavior and plot setup.

The first episode of Wistoria: Wand and Sword shows what to expect of the anime.

I really liked the first episode. Will is an good character who is heartful and strong at the same time. He is a underdog because he visits a magic academy without inheriting one. But he has an life saver in Colette who is his best friend. The story in the first episode was alright nothing spectacular or bullshit. The first episode was very action packed which is good because know we know where the story will continues. The character Sion is a cocky character who bullies Will in every possible moment. His teacher Edward Selfens is also not the biggest fan of Will and shows him that by letting him demonstrate practical exercises in front of the whole class to show his disability in magic. But another teacher named Norgram Workner is a big fan of him and supports him in every possible way. The episode ends with Sion fails to defeat the Evil Lord a 10 point monster and Will comes to rescue him, what shows that Will is strong.

Good episode with good animations. I like the theme of magical academys and so I`m hyped to finish the anime soon and look forward for the second season.

First things first. Why are we getting so many Black Clover imitations? The next thing is I'm not complaining anymore BECAUSE THIS SLAPPED. Until Black Clover gets a new season I'm happy with these imitations. The first half of the episode I was like eh it's whatever not bad or good. Suddenly we went from 0-100 real quick. BOOM KID GETS KNOCKED INTO THE WALL👀 Their facial expressions were 2 funny🤣🤣. Will having the moral dilemma was a nice touch. I didn't expect him 2 to be that strong. His heavenly pact goes crazy🔥. The animation is also way better than I expected it dropped during the fights. Wasn't as clean as other moments.
