| In reality, parrying is not so much about "hitting the sword" as it is about changing the trajectory of the opponent's strike. Look at what parrying looks like in classical fencing and in HEMA. In real life, mc-kun's training makes no sense. He just hits dangling sticks. However, it makes sense if you think of it as part of a JRPG or something like that. His parry looks very similar to the parry of Sekiro or other Souls and the like. In a JRPG, a such ability looks very similar to what mc-kun does. I also notice that the author follows the game logic of JRPG. For example, mc-kun has the ability to throw a stone. Not just throwing/throwing objects, but throwing stones. He won't be able to use knives, darts, spears to throw, following the logic of JRPGs. In those games, characters have a choice of skills to use. There's just one string. In many isekai, characters stand and act sequentially, using a single skill. This is a direct influence from such games. If you're too lazy to play yourself, check out a let's play on youchube. | Even though parry is seen as useless, isn’t in a way parry itself pretty OP? I mean your power output is 0 so in a way you’re not really strong or doing anything but you redirect their attack back at them with the same force. So one could argue you don’t do any damage but also the fact that you can return any attack back to them |
