Only full seasons are being considered for this question (meaning Attack on Titan does not qualify).

2023 was a legendary year for anime, and there was so much great stuff after a while it was hard to keep track of it all. What was your favorite anime that aired in 2023, and why?

My top three for the year were Frieren, Oshi no Ko, and Bocchi; Frieren was definitely the more consistent, delivering great episodes with alarming regularity every week, with beautiful art, amazing characters, great temporal storytelling, and fantastic universally resonant human themes that make even the most trite plot beats hit hard.

Oshi no Ko is a lot more inconsistent, and it swerves between episodes that rank as among the best visual storytelling I have ever seen (Episodes 1, 6, 7), and then other stuff that's just... fine. Those episodes that hit hard hit real hard, and I am still not over them all this time later.

Bocchi is a lot more light hearted than these other two, but has some of the best depiction of social anxiety and introversion, and is just an overall really fun watch with great characters, animation, and music.

I also really enjoyed other anime last year, but these three stand as my favourites. Gun to my head I would pick Frieren as my favorite.

What would you pick as your favorite anime of 2023?

Best Atmosphere/Mystery --> Heavenly Delusion (personal favorite of 2023)

Best World building/Overall quality ---> Frieren

Best Characters ---> Vinland Saga S2

I haven't seen the rest other than Oshi no Ko which was pretty Overrated, entertaining but still overrated.

It could change if I watched Pluto tho. But I'll leave it to future me to be the judge of that.

Oshi no Ko, without a doubt. I think Hell's Paradise has a great potential too but it is not my favorite.

Bocchi the Rock was my favorite and Oshi no Ko was a close runner up. Although I thought Bocchi the Rock aired in 2022.

For me it were the following shows: Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3, Trigun Stampede, Pluto, Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3, and Vinland Saga Season 2. Really good, high quality shows. Very fun to watch.

I'm yet to watch more of some other anime released in 2023, so I consider the aforementioned list as still open.

Well Migi to Dali is my favorite of 2023. Good enough to bunt out one of the oldies from my favorites.

1. Trigun Stampede
2. Shangri-La Frontier

These 2 are the ones closest to being my favorite anime of 2023. Shangri-La Frontier might overtake the #1 spot depending how the first season ends. It's already very close to beating Trigun Stampede for me, but Trigun Stampede is also very goated.

None of the above out of the available options would be my #1. My Top 10, excluding all pre-2023 continuing/returning series and only focusing on the new series released from 2023 onward, were as follows:

1.) Tengoku Daimakyou
2.) AI no Idenshi
3.) Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon
4.) Hikari no Ou
5.) Handyman Saitou in Another World
6.) The Apothecary Diaries
7.) Bullbuster
8.) Dark Gathering
9.) Sousou no Frieren
10.) Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

I leave the option open of potentially switching my #6 with my #4 or #5 once the former is completed in another few weeks and I'm in a position to go back and reflect and re-evaluate.

Don't really have a favorite but So far I have enjoyed quite a few from "Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill" to "Oooku". Recently some Anime I started watching for the Winter of 2023 has been "The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic", "Banished From The Hero's Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside Season 2", and even "Shangri-La Frontier", all of which I am enjoying. But over all nothing has really made a huge impact on me that got released in 2023 so far.

But if I was to pick something I would say "Shangri-La Frontier" even though it's not even finished airing.

There were lots of great anime in 2023 and among my favorites are Frieren, Vinland Saga and Bokuyaba, but the one that comes out on top is definitely Heavenly Delusion. I haven't been so invested in an anime in a while, after each episode I was the rest of the week thinking about it, it just never left my thoughts.

Honorable mentions:
Mushoku Tensei
Undead Unluck
JJK
Apothecary Diaries
Undead Murder Farce
Eminence in Shadow

Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy S2 was my favorite. Apparently Frieren and Apothecary Diaries is really good so I'll watch those eventually.
