from frieren's backstory that was shown the other day, we could see that elves can be killed, however if they were not killed on purpose, are they immortal? i have been really curious on their lifespans. is it mentioned in the manga, or did i miss them mentioning it in the anime?

In every media, elves have near immortal lifespan, but still not completely immortal, they will live longer than anyone else but will die someday, that's probably how it is in frieren whether it's mentioned or not

In general, Elves are considered immortal
Since they are immune to every disease, can heal super fast from any wounds...
But as you said, they can be killed by stronger beings

Like everyone says elves aren’t immortal and they just have way longer life spans. In terms of elf ages Frieren is pretty young as well. The elf introduced in the new episode confirmed that

How do they age physically? Do they stay babies for thousands years or do they fast forward till sexual maturity and then stop?
If I have to take care of a newborn baby for centuries I wouldn't be interested in getting a family too.
When they become elderly will they suffer from back pain for thousand years? They just die "young looking"?

In all media I know of Elves are described to have potentially infinite lifespan.

I don't see any answer to his question so I'm just going to say it. Frieren is over a thousand years old and she hasn't hit puberty yet, his question is how long do the elves here live or are they just immortal

1 millenia probably10-20 years for elves, thats what i got at least from the series.
So i think their lifespan at minimum somewhere around 5000 years.
Frieren is over 1000 years old but she didnt know who Kraft is. The way Kraft describe himself, he must be someone as important as Frieren at his peak.
If Flamme, the legendary mage, still remembered 1000 years after her dead (most likely cause Frieren still around to speak her name); How millenia did it take for someone like Frieren/Kraft to be forgotten.

up until the latest episode the information we have is: frieren is 1000+ years old, the monk elf is even older than that. They could potentially be immortal, but considering the way the elf monk talked about life and death, ithink it's more likely that elves just have a vastly longer lifespan.

kraft looks like he is a man in his 40s so elves do age in this show imo plus kraft said that frieren is young

Kraft is probably around 3000 to 4000 yo if he considers Frieren young even if she's 1000yo
So in their world elves can probably age between 10k and 15k yo
Just supposition

The anime didn't make that clear yet, so my guess is we're not supposed to know.

But it seems inspired in Tolkien's version of elves, which are immortal (as in, they never get old).

@sandwich-boy what are you on about?
and Kraft are both over 3000 and there's literally no mention of Half-elves period.

since somebody compared this to LOTR the other day, you can compare the elves to the elves of LOTR or the wizards??? long lived but can die if violence is used against them and we did see it happen. Frieren herself is over a 1000 and by her looks she doesn't pass for a person that's over 30 so she could live twice as much she has already lived (speculation on my part but I think the logic still stands)

Does the brain, mentality or maturity of an elf develop at the slow pace like the physical body does? I mean can a 200 y.o. elf still being mentally a child?
Is it morally considered wrong for a 100 years old elf being in a relationship with a 30 years old human?

Does somebody know an example of an Elf from any famous work in media who actually is looking old-aged?

A guy like this may have the age of the planet:

It hasn’t been confirmed in this series, but usually Elves cannot die from old age in most Fantasy universes.

how long they lives depends which frenchise it is..

in Lord of the Rings elves are 8000 years old and still look like humans in their 40s.

in other medias they can live 3000-4000 years... in others only 300-400 years.

Looks like Tolkien did introduce the immortality of elves but.. in Norse mythology for example the Huldufólk kinda live in a parallel universe where space and time is different and if a human interact with such creatures his "time" is gonna mess up too. I believe it's some sort of explanation about some illness(dementia) that mess up with your memory, or altered state of consciousness. Something like believing in possession trying to explain mental conditions.

Why the hell base their lifespan on the elves from other works? There is no point of reference. The only commonality is that they tend to live longer than humans.
Tolkien's elves, which are loosely based on the Norse light elves, are literally immortal, their spirit still remaining and their body being able to be restored by the Valar. Warhammer's or Warcraft's elves live thousands of years. The Witcher's elves live hundreds of years. Dragon Age's elves were immortal and now live hundreds of years at best, tainted by humans.
The lifespan of Sousou no Frieren's elves has never been revealed, but it's at least a few thousands of years from what we know. Case closed.

everybody is saying that elves have a limited time span. I disagree. I'm speculating while respecting the infos we got in the manga.

Elves are probably immortal. Ppl who read the manga know roughly how big/small the timescale of the frieren universe is. And we know of one single elf who lived through all of that (not 100% sure but it is super likely).

For the anime onlys: You know that kraft is old. Just bc of the way how he talked and what he said to frieren. Now, does he look old? No. So he didn't age. He looks physically more mature that frieren but who knows how long elves need to grow up? He is one example.

So no, I don't think they can die by natural causes.

I was thinking about how often Frieren gets her code red.. once a month? once a year? are the demons aware of this, can they exploit this moment of weakness? she can't continue traveling does she? does she spend these days in inns or inside towns?

They are almost extinct so definitely not immortal, otherwise there'd be an overpopulation of elves even if they would barely reproduce every 1 billion years or so
