Don't you mean Golden Age, it was only around 2012 when SAO became popular that the isekai dark ages began.

And how will we survive the post-isekai dark age?

Back then we were happy without even realizing it.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

We didn't, that the point. We all died and were isekai'd here.

I personally don't think isekai alone ruined anime. I think the biggest thing was the Western influence creeping in, which started to get really bad around mid-2016. Thanks to Western puritans, anime became afraid to take any risks, and so we had no fanservice, no blood, and not even any Japanese influence is most anime, unless it was a generic battle shounen like Kimetsu no Yaiba. Luckily, I think anime in 2023 is starting to drift away from this, with anime like Onimai airing. Because it took risks and lacked Western influence, Crunchyroll got a Taiwanese company to censor it and distribute it outside of Japan, with a bunch of dumb censorship. Crunchyroll is the new 4kids.

Also the best years of anime were from 2006-Early 2016. Sword Art Online didn't cause this isekai flood as much as Re:Zero did.

The irony when all isekai is about getting teleported to the dark medieval ages by a evil truck bastard

Modern isekai is like the modern world. Lifestyles have changed fairly drastically, so it's like looking back on the pre-internet days with nostalgia or a bit of fear.

@tchitchouan
It was re:zero that started the isekai trend after 2016, not SAO.

SAO technically isn't an isekai either.

I fucking hate isekai I want to see them have the balls to make an anime with sexual deviancy that takes place on Earth, not isekai cop-out.

Moe was the big thing 2010-2013. Barely any new big shounen airing, mecha diminishing to near nothingness, ecchi and fanservice was at an all-time low too.
K-On was a mistake.

With savage stuff like non-isekai high fantasy that wasn't all gimmicks with OP protagonists. Crazy, I know.

Anime in the first half of the '10s was actually pretty good. I remember watching the 2nd season of Mushi-shi back then, and it was one of the most magical experiences watching anything on simulcast that I can remember. I also watched Total Eclipse at that time, which was a pretty good mecha show.
Cyberpunk was still a thing, Dimension W, Ergo Proxy (I watched it then it was pretty good) and then at the end of the decade came Astra Lost in Space an actual new space anime! There was even cool ecchi stuff like Mom Kyun Sword- who remembers that one?

Now when I see the seasonal upcoming shows I just weep.... for a while there was some really fun and interesting stuff to watch in this hobby. Now most of it is regurgitated garbage.

What??? Don't tell me you never watched Cowboy Bebop, or Mobile Suit Gundam 0079?? Don't you know there were Isekai anime that predated Sword Art Online like for example Aura Battler Dunbine, or Super Dimension Century Orguss?

Non.. I don't agree ecchi was at a low in the 10s. It was much more common, look back at the seasonal new anime, one ecchi show used to premiere each season. It would usually be a badly written fantasy with scantily clad women like the one I mentioned, or weird stuff like One Room. But there was always one per season, I used to watch them to either make fun of how bad they were and have a laff, or would enjoy it if it improved.

The ecchi genre was killed by that Interspecies Reviewers fiasco (probably)

After that happened, came covid and then the world went woke and it seems like crappy isekai LN adaptations took the place of ecchi as the throwaway anime of each season.

I just watched better genres like science fiction, mecha, action, mystery, etc. which there were a lot more of being made. It (2000-2010) was a better time...

Not that I hate Isekai, some of it is entertaining, but the anime market is way too saturated with the genre, and the stuff I really like is harder to find.

If i am not mistaken it was around that time or was it later can't remember that it was plagued with tons of those battle harem in school setting. Still preferred the early 2000s where we got remake of classic like Tetsujin 28, New Getter Robo , Guyver and re-imagining like Gaiking. We also have stuff like Last Exile, Eureka Seven ,The Third , Zoids and Japanese Transformer. Character design was at least unique before we get tons of Kirito 2.0 lookalike and dots for a nose.
