What is happening with MAL badges? @Floris257, I sent you a message on Sept 14th and I can see you were online on Sept 20th. If you need more devs to help with the site, I can help out with this. |

Hello everyone! I don't know how to say it but am I the only one who has a problem with the XP points? I noticed it a couple of times in the past but never gave a thought about it till now. Everytime I update and hit a new rank in one of the categories the XP points that I receive aren't the amount that I'm supposed to have. It is not the first time that I have received a lower number of XP points than indicated by the rank achieved. Let's take the first two categories as an example: I am rank 5/6 in the anime category and rank 15/15 in the episodes category and if we add up all the points indicated for each single rank, then I should have 58550 XP points in total (I used a calculator to make sure I wasn't wrong). But my XP score is only 41300 so where are all the other XP points? And as I already said, this takes into consideration only the first two categories, leaving out all the categories regarding genre, number of episodes and year of release. If I had calculated the points of all the ranks achieved in each category, then the difference would have been even greater. Am I missing something or is it a bug? Can someone help me or explain if I'm doing it wrong? |

@Catalano There's an update on the site saying the developer will return on December 2 after being abroad. |

@Rin_Swift below is the answer to a previously asked question on how XP works with rank levels within badges, or here is the link to the original answer Luna said: In this case though I think it's not a bug but a feature and that's because of how the levels and xp per badge/level works: Every badge has a maximum amount of xp. For example, the "Anime" badge has a maximum of 10000 xp which you reach when you watched 2000 anime. The xp for the lower levels of the badge are just intermediate steps. The xp for these levels are not added cumulatively to the overall xp score. Every time you reach a new badge level, the old badge xp score is replaced by the new one. So the actual xp that gets added for a new level is the difference of the reached level and the level below. Example for the "Anime" badge: Level 1 is 50 xp and level 2 is 100 xp. When you level up you get the difference, 50 xp, added to the overall score. Level 7 is 7500 xp and Level 8 is 10000 xp. When you level up you get 2500 xp added to your overall score. So you don't get 50+100+250+....+10000 added but a maximum of 10000 when you reach the last level. I hope that makes it a bit clearer! |

@TaffyMichele thank you for taking your time to reply me! Gotta be honest, I would have never understood how it works without that explanation. Now everything makes sense but the way the EXP points are written for each rank is a little confusing in my opinion, it's easy to misuderstand .-. It would have been easier if it was written something like rank 1 EXP 50/5000, rank 2 100/5000, etc...to make it more intuitive😅 Or maybe I'm the dumb one who don't understand something that's obvious to others lol |

I know it's been a while since an update, I just wanted to say that the 'Romantic Subtext' badge seems to be broken. MAL recently changed that tag to 'Love Status Quo' and now it shows I didn't watch anything to get that badge (I think I have 4 completed items). They also added 2 new tags, Villaines and Urban Fantasy, so please check them out once development restarts. |

@AlexPower07, I see you are using the modern About Me style. Unfortunately, BBCode doesn't work in modern style. In order to add your badge to your profile, you need to switch to the classic About Me. After that, on your profile page, you need to click on "Profile Settings", which is located on the top right. Finally, scroll down and paste your badge code into the "About Me (Classic)" field. Don't forget to click "Submit" to save the changes. Edit: MB is back online. |

MAL-Badges will be resuming and will have major changes coming ahead for 2025, as announced from the latest version 20241224.1 according to their changelog. After over a year of waiting, I expect great new things for MAL-Badges in the future since I've still been using their service for years. And welcome back, Koito! We've missed you. |

He's the most hardworking and most dedicated volunteer in MAL-Badges, and I'm one of the people who's really on board with his vision of MAL-Badges' growth to the level 50 update with increasing the thresholds/levels for all available badges to accommodate with the level 50 badge update. I've been wanting to see it happen ever since and I sincerely hope you would have him reinstated so he could continue his services for MAL-Badges since he's the one who had organized all the spreadsheet data necessary for MAL-Badges' growth. I don't have a copy of the spreadsheets he made and I still wish you could use them for the future update of MAL-Badges. I also requested in the past regarding fixes for the thresholds of certain badges, such as 195X badge with 91 as the max threshold instead of 90. You know, increments of 5 or increments of 10 are much better for the levels instead of just using a random number for the last digit. |

@inim Don't you remember? These got added to MAL within the past year or so. CM (Commercial, split off from ONA) TV special (Special anime got split up depending if they were released on DVD, or aired on TV) PV (split off from ONA) MB combines the Music theme and entry type from our Completed list, AWCc splits the two, and anime.plus is the same as MB but also adds whatever's On Hold. MB needs to separate the theme from the entry type as they are two different things. Love Status Quo is the name change from Romantic Subtext in the most recent Genres/Themes System Changelog. So the badge doesn't work anymore. Koito added the VTuber badge herself (for reasons that may be obvious). I made a suggestion to MAL to add in a Idols (Virtual) theme to the DB to help categorize the hundreds of VTuber entries we already have, so I'm just waiting to hear about that. If Koito adds in the anime herself that counts towards the badge, then she'll need to expand the list as idk when it was last updated, and many people have reached the max limit already. |
