Mostly due to it being campy and ridiculous, having very bad special effects, and not taking itself seriously, at least not as much as the source material. It also fails at being bloody, you can easily tell when wax dummies are used. But it became somewhat popular, while the original manga remains relatively unknown in comparison. |

| Mo Dao Zu Shi (donghua) has a Chinese live action adaptation called "The Untamed". I haven't seen it, but it definitely has raving fans. However, Mo Dao Zu Shi is fantastic. |
