| I think you're forgetting that the MMO industry designs games that can be easily disposed of for a reason. They want as little investment as possible so they can make large gains on things like subscriptions, cash shop items, etc. Most MMOs live off those models, which should tell you exactly how much cash flow is coming from sources outside of player spending (hint: nearly none). Transforming an MMO into a single player experience would be difficult, tedious, and, most importantly, massively expensive. You're basically asking for the equivalent of a shopping mall to be recycled into a mansion. It just doesn't work that way. You would have to have a game that already functions well enough on its own as a single player game, such as Phantasy Star Universe, and have the multiplayer content be a side dish of the game. Doing this would drive away anyone who was looking for an exclusively multiplayer experience. Most MMOs simply are not created or planned out in a way that makes them recyclable as a single player game. As far as design goes, that's apples and oranges. |
