Votoms is for sure worth watching and Chirico is one of the best characters ever! Have fun!

Layzner sounds like it has a cool concept. I wonder when I'll get to watching it. Watching old mecha shows tends to be a very time comsuming activity. For now I'm just finishing Votoms OVAs. Well, they might not all be retro but the franchise itself is.

Anakin1981 | Jun 30, 2014 12:41 PM
At last Layzner is completed! It's worth watching the first 37 episodes (apart from 25) and then watching the 3rd OVA in order to view the more proper ending. An excellent series in every aspect, too bad that it didn't receive the love that desreved...

How's Blocker Gundan IV Machine Blaster? Anyone?

Anakin1981 | Jun 18, 2012 6:15 AM
Layzner's OVAs are ready by /m/subs and BlueFixer! :)

I read that the Giganos Empire is based on the Moon and not set up as colonies like in Gundam 0079. The circumstances of the story change significantly from Gundam as the story progresses, and from watching the series, it felt like Kaine and his friends spent most of their time fighting against the Gon Jem squad rather than the "Char" clone Meio Plato.

I don't think Dragonar could've progressed any further as a franchise like Gundam, all it could ever be is a one-shot series and nothing more. Yep, that first opening of Dragonar is quite catchy, like many 80's mecha songs. Ideon's OP is also another catchy song.

I've heard that somewhere too so I guess they tried to have to similar franchises running along but they failed. Well if they were succesfull we'll have to probably bear with the existence of too many similar stuff! Maybe they would have a Dragonar Z, a Dragonar Wing, a Dragonar Seed etc. Lol...

Kellhus | Jun 10, 2012 4:35 AM
I read that Dragonar was intended to "reboot" the Gundam franchise or be the start of something new after ZZ once so that's probably why they're so similar in concept. What reminded me of Dragonar in L-Gaim is the general goofiness of everything, especially the cast.

Love that OP too, one of my favorites.

Anakin1981 | Jun 10, 2012 4:20 AM
Interesting! I'll have to watch Layzner as soon as m/subs finish subbing it then! I kind of liked how bad they where in Dragonar! Lol...

helraiser | Jun 10, 2012 4:02 AM
Dragonar has something in common with Layzner imo.

Anakin1981 | Jun 10, 2012 3:43 AM
Well the only thing that isn't there are the New Types! Lol... A character that reminds of Char, colonies above the Earth in war with the mother planet, even the circumastances of the war are almost identical to Gundam 079! I have to admit that it has one of the catchiest openings of 80's mecha anime though!

kanon-chan | Jun 10, 2012 3:18 AM
From what I saw of Dragonar, it didn't feel like Gundam 0079, the circumstances are all too different with only a few similarities and Dragonar's trio of protagonists are just normal pilots, rather than pilots with extraordinary abilities like the Newtypes of the Gundam franchise.

Anakin1981 | Jun 9, 2012 1:47 PM
Dragonar was a copy of Gundam 079 imo... It was decent though when I watched it!
