There's just one thing about la rose de Versailles: you MUST never take it seriously.
Only at this condition it can remain fairly a touching, enjoyable title.
I remember a live action movie was even directed by Jacques Demy. Japanese producers wanted it to be strictly accurate to source. As a result, it bombed because it exploded all limits of cheesiness. To this day, the flick remains an exotic rare-to-find. To say the least, poor History of my country was as beaten down as a white-furred seal X) |
