Synopsis

Growing up as an orphan, Yuki Sakurai questions his reason for living and ability to see a person's painful memory by simply touching them. After receiving anonymous notes telling him to die, Yuki is unable to shake off the nagging feeling forming inside of him. Unbeknownst to him, he is being watched, both by people who want to harm him and those who want to protect him.

One foggy night, Yuki's life is saved by a beautiful man with silver eyes and jet black hair—a man he has never met before yet seems familiar. With the arrival of this mysterious stranger, Yuki's forgotten past has been awakened and the purpose of his existence has appeared before him.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru tells the story of a teenage boy as he discovers who he is and where he comes from—all while making friends, experiencing betrayal, and slowly piecing together the puzzle of his past.

I was surprised at how much I actually liked this anime. I planned on watching it for the past ten years (no, really) and now that I finally did it I wonder why it took me so long. I am certain that I would have liked it even more if I would have watched it ten years ago.

Story-
The story isn't what I'd describe as amazing, but there is a pretty good plot that keeps you interested. I wasn't expecting much in terms of plot so I was taken by surprise. There are a few things that could have been polished a little, but overall ...

Mixed Feelings
If you're looking for good amimation and hot characters then give it a go. If you want good plot and interesting main characters then skip this show.

I really wanted to like this because the plot seemed interesting, but unfortunately it's just super underdeveloped. It takes like 15 episodes to learn the truth behind the war/family and its still pretty incomplete. It's like the whole show they gave me enough to think it would grow.

I felt like I learned more about Hotsuma and Kuroto's stories, personalities and backstories than anyone that was supposed to be a main character. I kinda wanted more development like that. ...

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru (UraBoku from now on) is a great example of how visuals and sound aren't enough to make a series enjoyable to watch.

Visuals:
1) for a 2010 anime, the animation is very clean although inconsistent at times;
2) it took me a while to ignore how every character has a sharp chin, almost like they could stab someone with it
3) ugliest hands I've ever seen in any anime and I've been watching anime for over 16 years now!
4) unappealing color palette

Sometimes butlers are depicted as graying old men named Jeeves. Other times, they're the kind of butler we can only dream about. These anime butlers will make you wish you had your very own impeccably-dressed servant.
