Clannad: After Story - Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Kyou-hen

I wasn't a big fan of Clannad (rated 5, 8 for After Story) partly because I just didn't like Nagisa. The way she ended up how she ended up annoyed me personally and I was never really a fan of her personality. I always thought of Kyou as the best girl so this OVA was perfect.

Really, the story was just great. Basically what I wanted to happen in the series but I think it acutally worked better for an OVA.

The romance was good. The characters were swell. The developments in the story were on point.

Like I said before, I'm a little biased ... because I really am not a fan of Nagisa, but this OVA was great. It did feel a little crammed and if the split it up into two parts it may have been better, but it definitely worked.

Let's start with the story. It's deep, emotional, and it hits you right in the feels. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll come out the other side feeling like you just went through an emotional rollercoaster. The plot twists are as unpredictable as my ex-gf mood swings, and I absolutely loved it. Score: 8/10.

The art style is top-notch. The animation is smooth as butter, and the ... character designs are just gorgeous. I mean, have you seen Tomoyo Sakagami? She's hotter than a jalapeño on a summer day. Score: 9/10.

Finally, the experience of watching this anime is something that I'll never forget. It's not often that a show comes along and grabs hold of your heart like this one did. I laughed, I cried, and I was left with a sense of awe at the end of it all. It's like I just went on a spiritual journey, but without all the annoying yoga poses. Score: 8/10.

Overall, It's a beautiful, emotional masterpiece that will leave you breathless. Score: 8.4/10. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to re-watch the entire series and cry my eyes out all over again.

Clannad: After Story - Mou hitotsu no Sekai, Kyou-hen takes an interesting approach at an alternate universe in which another girl takes the heart of our main character.

I enjoyed this differentiation from the main story, but it felt somewhat rushed. I suppose it's more there to show the different adaptation from the visual novel, but ultimately a single episode is too short in capturing a lot of emotion, which Clannad is originally the best at.

It's certainly worth the watch if you enjoyed Clannad, I would recommend watching this after After Story, but you can do as you please of course. Just don't expect ... it to touch you as much as the original and especially After Story itself can do.

Okay I love Kyou she is My favorite girl in clannad and my waifu, which meant that coming into this i may have been expecting too much, i honestly feel the Kyou in Nagisa's adaptation is a much better character being a good stable platonic friend with no ulterior motives or i should say less ulterior motives.

i love kyou i played the visual novel just to get a better feel as to who she is and just have more from her but it was how should i put this a bit jarring, i just dont understand her motivations in this plot it just makes ... no sense to me as far as an adaptation of the story kyoto animation did an excellent job to that its not some descrepency between the vn and anime its just as the protagonasts love interest her actions are just absurd i dont understand mate.

i think as far as the character specific ova's tomoyo is just a better love interest

maybe im just selfish and cant stand seeing kyou with anybody other than myself idk i just did not get this route


TL:DR Kyou's better in Clannad and After story then she is in her own route due to her being a more dynamic character in those pieces

First off, I should probably say that I am not a fan of OVA's or special episodes. They typically have little to no correlation with the anime plot, and while they should at least partially try and compliment it, they instead present a filler episode. This one is different.

I must say I was taken aback by the beautiful art, likely one of the best-animated episodes in the entire series, I could really feel the raindrops, presented locations and feel the character as I was directly watching them from behind a camera. An outstanding job is done here.

It would not be Clannad without sentimental music, and ... I was not disappointed here either. The fantastic, new soundtrack accompanying the story made it only more dramatic and complete.

Sadly, I felt the plot lacking a little. I guess I can call the episode a typical, first-world problem episode without much going on around, but that is only partially the case. Without giving spoilers, I see why this episode was placed after the main series and considering the final episodes of it, shows a very interesting perspective in a truly heart-melting way.

Since this is my first review, take it with a pinch of salt, watch the show before you get to this OVA as you definitely will not regret it.

Forgive me for rating this all 10s but that's just I think, it's an amazing episode on all accounts. The amazing thing about harem anime is the diversity in romance options that it provides. This goes for video games, movies, etc. as well and this show actually originates from a dating sim game. Anime is sadly not as interactive as a video game and with so many people having varying opinions, the love interest that the protagonist chooses isn't always the favorite choice of all. Alternate endings such as this one are the icing on top of the cake and ... with 3 alternate endings (which make up roughly half of the love interests in the show) this really tailors to many viewers choices. Kyou was my personal favorite with Kotomi being 2nd (sadly there was no alternate ending for her) and I was like a kid on Christmas when I found out this episode existed. If you've watched Clannad and have mixed reviews abut Tomoya's choice, please watch this as well as the Tomoyo alternate ending.

I'm thrilled that this isn't the cannon ending. I hate love triangles. I hate the stupid high school drama it introduces when you force love triangles into a story. It's a played out obnoxious trope and I don't think anybody has ever genuinely wanted to see more of them in fiction.

Not only that but this story completely ignores Nagisa, and she gets sidelined to probably die alone unfulfilled and never having completed her goal of restarting the theater club. This is clearly a dark timeline bad ending and anyone who thinks otherwise is objectively wrong. There were no Kyou stans. It just isn't something that ... exists. I'd buy a Fuuko ending before I enjoy watching this.

So yeah both sisters are the worst, my favorite episode of the main show was when they both realized they didn't have a chance and started crying, couldn't have been a happier moment. I give this bad end a 5/10, please return the 22 minutes I spent watching it.

Please just do me a favor and play the visual novel before watching this mess of an adaptation. This adaptation deserves at least 3 episodes to do it justice, and the fact that they tried to complete the whole thing in one 24 minute episode is blasphemy.

Ryou gets none of the development that she gets in the VN. Her development is the backbone of this entire arc. You do not get to see Ryou and Tomoya's relationship develop, you do not get to see Tomoya's feelings get more and more confused until they boil over and explode into a fantastic ending that was done so ... poorly in this adaptation, and you do not get to see the true extent of what Kyou was going through during this entire ordeal. Ryou is not meant to be the bad guy, but that is what I feel this adaptation was trying to do, and it is just so wrong.

I love the Kyou route in Clannad, but this adaptation did not even come close to doing it justice. The characters are undeveloped, the motivations make no sense, and the characters' actions are forced to say the least. I won't tell you to not watch it, but if you have the ability to, please play the VN before watching this OVA. It will be so much more satisfying.

Clanna: After Story - Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Kyou-hen was pretty boring honestly. The parts of Clannad I like are the good arcs that lead to emotional climaxes, which this one does not. It feels much more like a generic anime high school romance than any of the other relationships throughout Clannad. It also should really be called Ryou-hen, as its about her for most of the special, and she is honestly my least favorite character of the main cast. She is yet another shy, kind of airheaded character like Nagisa and Kotomi, except she gets a third of the screen time and is way ... less important. Kyou is slightly better, but still isn't a character that I'm a super big fan of. The story is really just kind of boring, with a pretty basic conflict and a pretty predictable resolution. It's not the worst Clannad gets, but its very, very, far from the best.

Clannad: After Story - Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Kyou-hen in a word: NotClannadEither

It's basically the same idea as Clannad: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Tomoyo-hen so I'm going to give it the same review:

All this is an alternative reality with the characters. It doesn't give more to the main story of Clannad and Clannad After Story. If you have played the visual novel you might enjoy it more than I did, but I didn't gain anything from watching it.

The art was good, the characters were their usual selves, but I adore the relationship between Nagisa and Tomoya and their relationship wasn't the focus of this story. ... So I kind of checked out on it.

If you want to watch it, just to see the Clannad characters back in action, go for it, but I will probably never rewatch it.

After finishing the kyou route in the visual novel, i thought i would watch the OVA adaptation. Understandably, there were obvious cuts made, as its impossible to condense an 8 hour fleshed out story into a single 25 minute episode, therefore a-lot of the build up is lost, and only the main events are animated. To Kyoto animations credit, they did a good job of making sure no time was wasted, and attempted to include as much as they could in the form of a "montage". The material for a great adaptation of the VNs story is definitely there, and if the anime adaptation had ... been the length of a movie, it could have been great. Overall, if youre looking for something as fleshed out as the Clannad VN or after story you will be disappointed. My recommendation is to not watch this, and instead experience this great story in the visual novel.

Love is a painful mystery we will probably never solve.

I don't really have much words for this OVA, just that it is really incredible how with one episode it has shown everything necessary to fall in love with this story and characters even more in another world. It shows you what every character is going through, what its like to be lost and loving the same person. If you should take a lesson from this OVA... it is never good going into a relationship just to discover yourself.
If you liked Tomoyo chapter, you will surely like this OVA too.
