Both are at first very simple, but become darker at the end. And in the two there is a friends relationship on summer.

Beautiful girls who come from the sea... while Mermaid Melody is about mermaids, singing and shoujo-romance, Umi Monogatari isn't quite so child-orientated and is rather relaxed in its pacing etc.

The art for both is very beautiful, lovely animated. The soundtracks for both have beautiful soft tunes to them. both main females have long blonde hair which ges into a long pony tail. the story lines draw you in and they have a sence of magic in the air.

An obvious similarity - sea themes! People from the sea interacting with people of the land, plus their interpersonal relationships.

Both depicts stories of sea maidens, both have a slow development and a serene ambient mood.

Living for the Day After Tomorrow and Umi Monogatari are two relatively chill-feeling drama shows following two girls that meet during one magical summer. The two girls stay together, but one has some kind of familial drama while the other has relationship drama to their stories. These two shows are relatively slow-paced, but this should be fine if you're looking for something akin to iyashikei. Both have a very similar soundtrack, and if you enjoyed the music in one show, you're sure to like the other.

Umi Monogatari and Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid are two anime that feature mermaids into the story. The mermaid character(s) go above the surface of the sea and meet someone from the land. The ED for Umi Monogatari even features the two mermaid sisters watching a slideshow of the original The Little Mermaid fairytale.

While Umi Monogatari and Nanatsuiro Drops are both magical girl shows, they mainly focus on the relationships between the characters. There are a few action scenes in each anime, but what is most intense is the character drama. While they both have relaxed pacing and music, they become more dramatic as they progress (although Umi Monogatari is much darker).

Although the genres may be different, with IkaMusume leaning more on comedy while Umi Monogatari presenting more of drama, the theme is likely similar with beings or shoujos from bottom of the sea, interacting with land dwellers, ocean and seaside as the main obvious settings, and giving the anime fans who are seeking for genres/themes like these, a piece of their minds.

Like my love life, both shows start out pretty decent. Gorgeous animation, lovable characters and a clear plot to follow then BAM! Crash dive into a fiery hellscape that could rival Dante’s Inferno.

Umi Monogatari and Prétear are two magical girl anime directed by Junichi Sato. Both anime are about a human girl who learns of the existence of mystical beings, and soon becomes a magical girl in order to defeat an evil being of darkness. The story is a lot more serious than it seems on the surface, with some character drama and talks of darkness and loneliness throughout the plot.

Both shows involve friends who meet from different “worlds.” As they progress, the shows take a darker turn, and the situations become more dire and depressing.

Really nice and peaceful island life disrupted by an end-of-the-world plot. Both involve characters whom aren't exactly human coming in and learning how to live with humans. Both are heavily related to the sea, and both involve a conflict that come from the sea. Comparatively, Umi Monogatari's main cast is mostly female while Tsuritama's main cast is mostly male. Also, while Umi Monogatari is quiet and toned down, it involves more action. Tsuritama in comparison is more visually and comically exaggerated, and thus ends up being less dramatic overall. Both are still relatively calm stories by the sea, providing more slice-of-life comedy until the latter  read more

Jealousy, sadness... and everything becomes surrounded by darkness. This shows transmit the same message and have similar concepts. If you want to know what the best way to deal with the negative feelings in your heart is, you should watch them both!!
