Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai

Alma, an autonomous self-learning robot with advanced combat capabilities, was created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane, who developed Alma's artificial intelligence and robotics, respectively. After being mocked by their former acquaintances, the duo have worked together in order to show the world their true talents. But even though they cooperate in their work, the two scientists cannot seem to get along in their personal lives.

However, despite their constant bickering, Enji and Suzume develop a glint of mutual affection—feelings that do not go unnoticed by their adorable robotic creation. Now curious, Alma starts to question the true nature of her creators' relationship. As she learns more about humanity from those around her, Alma's bonds with Enji and Suzume only grow stronger.

Preliminary (3/11 eps)

The anime really delivered what it promised — I genuinely enjoyed the mix of family dynamics and romantic comedy. It’s a calm, lighthearted, and fun show to watch, exactly what I was hoping for.

The main characters are quite interesting to follow, even though it’s always funny to see adults acting like teenagers (which actually makes sense considering their jobs). Alma-chan is absolutely adorable, and she brings a lot of cute and funny moments that help push the main couple closer together.

I also liked Hanna, Alma’s first friend — and I’m guessing more characters will show up later to fill out the story even more.

Since there ... are only three episodes out so far, it’s still too early to give a full judgment. I’ll probably update my score once I finish watching it!

Preliminary (3/11 eps)

Are you in the mood for something on the lighter side? That can be wholesome, mixed with a bit of goof? Ever wondered if those two smart eggs from that scientific researching love show would be like if they were more Tsundere with each other, but also raised a CHILD together, as if it was part of the experimental research? Then you're in the right place.

Story and characters: 7
As explained above, it really comes off as such. Imagine two smart people, who prob are in love, but their strong pride won't full admit to it. Created such a sweet robotic child, that is just ... joyful to watch. Along with very silly to boot. Yeah, there isn't massive to talk about regarding the shows story, but does there need to be? You're more here for the cute, wholesomeness, and silliness that the show can offer. That is enough in general, and with characters like these? You'll find it in droves. A pleasant experience all round. I honestly cannot wait to see more of it, as we go week to week.

If to touch more on Alma herself, she's a treat. Might be a robot, so you'd think she'd lack emotion, or kid like features. But she honestly reminds me of Kamui from Dragon Maid. It's just cute and fun watching her, as she goes about. Such a sweet character.

Art and sound: 7
I'd view the art as fun, and simplistic. It doesn't need to be pretty, for the product that it is. While it does look good and pretty, and really matches the show. But simple can also be looked at as a good thing. It won't ruin your eyes with what you are seeing at all. But more add to the comfy experience that this show gives. As you can have your action shows, your horror, your drama. But sometimes we just want sweet goodness. Follow that up with stella VA work, making it the perfect cute show on both ends of watching, and looking to relax, and enjoy too.

Alma won't be anime of the season, it doesn't need to be. What it is, is a sweet product that anyone can enjoy. I'd give it a shot.

I've noticed that there are very few anime that are truly unique. Japanese culture does tend to mix-n-match things, rarely (but not never) coming up with anything truly unique, but taking several different things that already exist, mixing them around, and turning them into something that's... sometimes unique. Or at least different.

They didn't really do that here. Though they did give it a shot, I guess.

This anime is basically a CGDCT mixed with AI, with a bit of rom-com tossed in. Alma is an AI combat robot that wants to become a family, and, well... she gets a family. ... A fake family. For a fake girl. I guess that works. But considering anime is mostly a fake, escapist media form, that may work pretty well.

This opinion was solidified when they sent Alma to school. I mean, can you get much more formulaic than that? So she's going to make all sorts of friends, who are likely also cute and do cute things, while her "parents" slowly fall in love with each other. I mean, that's not predictable at all! There's no way anyone could see that plot coming! It's completely out of left field!

(At least the way she's enrolled makes a lot more sense than, say, in Onimai).

All that said, this isn't a bad anime. As predictable, so far formulaic, and unoriginal as this might be, it is pretty much exactly as described. By which I mean, if you went in expecting an anime about an AI girl who wants a family, you're going to get an anime about an AI girl that wants a family. Nothing wrong with that, really. It's truth in advertising, and if you like that kinda thing, well, you're not going to be disappointed.

But, if that turns out to be all this anime is about, I'm going to ultimately consider it a waste of time. However, it does look like some interesting things might be coming down the pipe, given the teaser (which I won't describe) at the end of ep. 3. We'll see how that actually turns out.

I'm going to recommend this so far, but it's a really close one. I think I'll know whether I'm going to keep that in an episode or two.
