In an effort to reduce the likelihood of sexual crimes in Japan, a prestigious all-male school relieves its students using the service of young girls. The reasons these girls are thrown into this unusual career are many, ranging from debt to punishment for crime. Treated as nothing more than government-sponsored commodities, they are stripped of their clothing and identified only by their assigned number.
Nakagawa rarely pays much attention to anyone at school, but that changes when he enters a relationship with the girl known as 'Number 3.' Since personal interactions between the students and the girls are forbidden, the two decide to use the school rooftop as their private meeting place. Spending their days together in secret, Nakagawa begins to learn more about Number 3 as well as the dark truth behind the controversial program.
Hentai—whether you’re a high school student, an adult, or an old creepy guy, chances are that you’ve seen at least one anime that falls under this genre at some point in your life. It’s a genre that tends to have one or more of the following: a lack of plot, zero character development, strong sexuality, and extreme levels of bizarreness. Despite these various flaws, the genre still receives a decent number of viewers, fans even. Is that really surprising though? After all, porn is porn. The typical hentai viewer doesn’t give a damn if what he’s watching is good or not; as long as he
can relieve himself, all is well.
Kima no Na wo Yobeba isn’t like your average anime porno though. Does it have a lot of sexual content? Of course. However, the sexual content isn't present to arouse the viewer; it’s present for a much different purpose. This anime successfully utilizes its depictions of sex to convey emotions I would have never expected a piece of pornography to convey. How often do you watch hentai and feel uneasy seeing the characters indulging in hedonism? How often do you watch hentai and feel a desire to avert your eyes from the screen? How often do you watch hentai and repeatedly ask yourself, "What the hell is wrong with these characters?" If you're the kind of person that prefers to watch hentai with one hand in his pocket and another grasping for the closest Kleenex, you’re probably better off avoiding this title.
The reason for the aforementioned admonition will become quite evident as the reader proceeds. The anime depicts the lives of two close individuals. One, a young man who regards reality as nothing but a dream; the other, a young woman who seeks happiness in her utterly destitute existence. Like Cosette in Hugo’s tragic novel, this female endures endless suffering. Her name is Mitsuko, and the source of her pain is the cruel, ruthless students that attend a supposedly civilized school.
Mitsuko, along with all the other girls inhabiting the school, are essentially objects. They serve only one purpose: to satisfy the hedonistic males. As the students satiate their lust, they're ruining the lives of individuals that had done absolutely nothing wrong. The depravity becomes especially apparent once the viewer witnesses the lengths these students take to get their daily dose of pleasure.
Although the viewer is likely to sympathize with Mitsuko, there’s another feeling likely to be experienced: shock-value. Most of the female characters that appear in this OVA aren't treated as people. Both their feelings and sufferings are disregarded by the male students. The students don’t hesitate in the slightest and feel absolutely no remorse for their actions. There are no words within my vocabulary that can describe the level of depravity this hentai has depicted.
Not all of the male characters in this anime are blinded by lust. There is one exception, and that’s the male protagonist, Nakagawa. As he constantly witnesses savage acts occur around him, he's the only person to behave as a decent human being should. He is to this anime what Gerasim is to Tolstoy's Death of Ivan Ilyich: a ray of light in a world enveloped in darkness. However, he’s not exactly perfect either. Like most males, he has sexual thoughts of his own. What exactly would the love of Jesus or Buddha towards humanity mean if everyone was perfect though?
The protagonist’s flaw aside, it’s time to move onto another one of his characteristics: loyalty. There’s Benkei who withstands a barrage of arrows for the sake of another. There’s Sir Launcelot who abandons all of his fellow knights to save his most loved one. And there’s Karna who, in his refusal to abandon his closest friend, goes against his own kin. As for Nakagawa, his fidelity is also towards someone important to him. Even if it means being treated as an outcast by the rest of his classmates, he does whatever he can to ameliorate the life of a miserable girl. In this society, he’s the weird one for thinking of her as an actual human being.
When I first began watching pornographic anime, my favorite part was always the soundtrack. No matter how uninteresting the hentai was, the soundtrack was the one thing that was always done right. Unfortunately, I eventually came across extremely boring hentai and realized how far from the truth the previous thought was. While this anime’s soundtrack isn't terrible, it's nothing special either. The ED sequences are fitting, and the background music is sentimental. The background music is poorly placed half of the time though. Sentimental music playing as girls are forcibly being pleasured by (or pleasuring) multiple guys? That isn't appropriate in the slightest.
As for the human condition, determining any insight to this may require interpreting the dream motif. Throughout the OVA, Nakagawa refers to the world in which he exists as a dream. The reality he's living in is so unlike what it should be that one can't really blame him for his way of thinking. Every day is like a nightmare. In this nightmare, human beings seem to have disregarded the emotions that make them human, the opposite sex has been objectified, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. What would one call this nightmare? A dystopia.
If you just wiped the dust off your Kleenex, this is NOT the anime for you. If your right hand is your best friend, this is NOT the anime for you. If you spend your free time covering yourself up in vaseline and rolling around on the floor pretending you're a worm, this is NOT the anime for you. If you decide to watch this anime, I highly advise reading the manga's synopsis after the viewing (one idea that seems to have never been explicitly stated will become clear). If you read the synopsis beforehand, however, you won't feel bad or have the sudden realization.
This anime may fail as a piece of pornography, but it does succeed as being something else: a meaningful piece of animation. In a medium that seems to be devaluing meaningfulness, titles like Kima no Na wo Yobeba are becoming seemingly harder to find.
Story: 8 points
Did you know notice how she changed and cried after being given back her humanity in the form of clothing?
If we have nothing to start with then we have nothing to lose.
The dignity that her clothing represents is the truth that we run from.
“Humans are cruel, savage creatures. No matter how you wanna dress it up and disguise it...” Rorschach from the movie Watchmen.
You can call me out for quoting the obvious, but you can't deny the reality this hentai title displays; boldly, bravely, and uncensored in its attempt to depict the truth of our nature.
You can sit and hide inside your
vanilla world and ideals, but you can't hide for long.
Truth is like the sun. Lies bring darkness but that darkness only lasts so long before the sun rises again and clears the lies that we tell ourselves in order to hide from the reality that is man and woman.
We can point fingers at this anime all we want, but the feeling we have inside is 'truth' wanting to be freely spoken and not disguised with our false ideals.
Art: 10 points
Very clean art.
Sound: 8 points
The sound of her crying sounded very real.
Character: 8 points
The characters were very gritty and real.
The switch between slut and normal school girl is easy to do, but that fact that the makers of this anime go ti t right when other have go tit wrong is a case for a few extra points.
Enjoyment: 6 points
I would have enjoyed it more, but watching real rape is not my thing.
The first time that I looked to this hentai's poster. I find the art very good and it did not disappoint when it comes to the animation, soundtracks, character design and the dubbing. Whoever plot makes me feel so mixed.
The first episode was the most disturbing and the most depressing episode. I felt kinda guilty after watching. I felt really sorry for the female lead at the ending, As I've thought it was the conclusion for the whole plot. Simply because life for her literally fucks her up and doesn't give her a break. And the guy wasn't able to put up much of a
fight to defend her.
The second episode was kinda okay. The plot kinda had a twist. Maybe it could have been a dream for the male lead. As he was seen as the story establishes asleep at the rooftop and then wokes up as it was showed in the first episode. Maybe she was just a delusion in the boy's crazy sex fantasy.
Overall it's a good hentai to fap to for it has good art.
However the plot makes you kinda feel mixed for it is fucked at the first episode and eases at the second and the last episode.
