Unnamed Memory

Unnamed Memory could have been a great show if it had received a decent adaptation.
It starts well in the first 3 episodes, however, as the following episodes go by, the adaptation begins in a limited way, getting lost and confusing and scenes completely unexplained, making you seek to find out in the original work what happened to cause such a scene. It happens, it seems confusing but this happens in several episodes because they simply didn't want to explain and adapt it properly to LN. This ends up making you think the story is bad, when what's bad in this case is the adaptation, which ... is very rushed.

The high point, and this has to be at least praised, is that the relationship between Oscar and Tinasha is good, although the poor adaptation still interferes with some things here, things like this, for example: Oscar and Tinasha are collecting fruit together and exchanging cute words, considering that in the previous episode their relationship wasn't at that level yet. But yes, overall their relationship is good and Oscar is a proud MC.

As we know, ENGI was the one who adapted the work, and honestly they are not a competent studio, however they made a hasty adaptation. Knowing that the work will have a second season was frustrating for me, as this season could have been divided into 24 episodes, with a first season done without rushing. We know that ENGI is not a studio to expect a neat adaptation, but Unnamed Memory at least deserved its story to be well adapted.

Until now (ep 3), the pacing feels really rushed, the characters don't have a lot of depth and we are not given a lot of context to the story. This is probably because I read the manga and that I'm mad over the anime skipping the whole Temis plot and this sets a lot of character for Tinasha and why she's so feared as a witch. We also get to see Tinasha and Oscar's relationship develop which is totally lackluster in the anime. I want to emphasize again that the fact that the whole arc is missing is terrible.

In terms of chapters, the moment ... where Tinasha departs for Druza's magical lake in chapter 9 and in the anime, that's in episode 2. Again, Oscar not explaining why he's just blatantly stopping Tinasha just gave me a yucky feeling and then having that assistant explain why tf this place is dangerous feels like lazy writing. And then, if we look at the manga, there was an important part where Tinasha explains that she has a lot piercings to restrict her powers and she has those off in that scene of the manga. She was also carrying a lot more equipment in that scene and we got to see her a lot more in the manga, so we could actually see that something was wrong. On the other hand, we hadn't seen much of Tinasha, so I didn't even notice that she had more equipment and it made me feel unpleasant that Oscar is just overprotective (without knowing the actual reason). We also get to know more about the danger of lake Druza because it relies on the Temis plot as well.

Anyways, I have a lot more things to add but this will be way to long. I stand for Tinasha & Oscar so pls read the manga :9

So where do I even start. First episode and even the second episode I was like “oh this is gonna be an underrated gem for this season” a few episodes in I’m completely lost. New characters are introduced and I feel like they’re speedrunning the whole thing.

Every NEW episode I feel like we’re one episode behind and missing key parts of the show. If they slowed it down and actually gave us time to really know each character and actually developed them instead of speed running, I’d give this show a 7 or at least an 8 because I do like the characters and ... I want to know how the story plays out. There’s 12 episodes coming out, we’re only at 7, but I feel like the show is already over with how fast the story progressed.

I don't read the original source, but the anime is definitely shit. Pretty sure it doesn't adapt the original source well.

The ending doesn't make any sense at all and I felt like I wasted my time watching the first to tenth episode. It will have second season? Oh, sure, that's good because if it don't then this is a impure wet trash, the kind you don't want to see at all. They wanted to make it a sad ending but it's just disappointing at best. I'm sure it lacks contexts, we don't know what Oscar is thinking and feeling thoroughly before making that decision, but ... that's we got here, a wet trash adaptation.

When I saw the first episode of Unnamed Memory I was intrigued and decided to watch it. At first there were not a lot of problems with the show, but overtime it has felt like they've been rushing through things and skipping stuff; in particular many of the episodes abruptly begin at a wildly different point to where the last episode ended and it feels like you must have skipped an episode or something but that is just not the case. In the end I got frustrated with this and decided to go read the Light Novel which the anime adapts and which was much ... more enjoyable than the anime and I would highly recommend you go and read it if you felt intrigued by the anime at all. They did a great job with the opening and ending themes but in the end the show falls apart with its lackluster pacing and constant skipping of stuff that helps to build up the characters and the story itself.

Is "Unnamed Memory" good? If you don't compare it to the light novel, then yeah, it's pretty solid.
Is "Unnamed Memory" bad? If you're a fan of the source material, you might be disappointed.

So, which one is it? Good or bad? Well, it's a bit more nuanced than that.

It's a great anime if you don't compare it to the light novel. The producers crammed content from three whole books into just 12 episodes, resulting in a rushed series that leaves out a lot of important details. This is most noticeable in episodes 5-7. Despite this, I still enjoyed the anime and think most people would ... too.

Let's start with the pacing. Honestly, it's kind of a mess. Most episodes cram in too many plot points and then just end abruptly. It feels like the whole storyline is on fast-forward, which can be pretty jarring and hard to follow. This show really needed a 24-episode season to give the plot and characters the time to develop properly to make everything easier to follow.

Nuanced characters? Technically, yes, but the anime doesn't do them justice. The characters are indeed complex, but the show skips half the development they get in the light novel. Oscar is a decent protagonist, with a lot of potential depth and growth that we just don’t see. Many plot points involving him are left out, leaving you confused about what's happening and why he makes certain decisions.
This issue is even worse with Tinasha. Her character arc is especially rushed, so much so that it feels like you’re only getting snippets of her story. In the light novel, her character is given the time and space to develop organically, but the anime cuts so much that her motivations and background can seem unclear or underwhelming. So, yes, the characters are nuanced, but take that with a grain of salt – the anime doesn’t give you the full picture.

The animation is alright. It's clearly on a budget, and this anime does deserve better animation, but it works for what it is.

Despite its flaws, I personally found "Unnamed Memory" to be a great watch. Most people who have read the light novel will most likely not like this anime due to the significant cuts and pacing issues.
However, I think this is still worth a watch despite the problems, I would recommend at least give it a try and watch it through.

The beginning had so much potential! Oscar the main character seems like an interesting Chad protagonist, and Tinasha the witch is beautiful and clever. However, the main flaw is around episode 3 or 4, the plot starts jumping around, each episode afterward starts skipping scenes, and the character development unfortunately speeds up causing the audience to become very confused. It's like the series starts to rush.

Tinasha and Oscar are a funny duo together, and the episodes are fun to watch their interactions, but overall the plot is badly adapted into anime. Supposedly reading the light novel is better. The opening and ending songs are ... good to listen to though!

The anime started well and the story had a lot of potential to develop but after the 2nd episode everything became completely meaningless in my opinion. I haven't read the Light Novel but I know that they cut a lot of things in the anime, which left the plot rushed and gibberish at several points. It's as if they simply throw random things into each new episode, with little or no explanation, making characteres development completely shallow as well. The only thing that is saved is the animation, which has a very beautiful design, and the opening and ending songs.

A cute little romance story where two worlds collide - or do they?

‘Unnamed Memory’ is about the unusual relationship between the powerful witch Tinasha and Prince Oscar, who wants to take her as his wife. Because he was cursed as a child, he can no longer father children and had actually only sought out the witch to break his curse, but the situation is more complicated and the curse is extremely powerful - only a magically gifted woman could withstand it! The prince has the brilliant idea of marrying the witch, but for reasons unknown at first she is against it.

‘Unnamed Memory’ starts out like ... a romance story with endless potential. The witch world could be explored, Tinasha might refuse because the witch culture wants it that way, diplomatic intrigues with other nations could occur because the prince tries to marry one of the most powerful creatures in the world or whatnot - in general, a story in which the witch and aristocrat/human worlds collide because of such a relationship would be more than just fascinating!

Unfortunately, this idea only plays an extremely small role in the anime, which has so far been preoccupied with providing far too many clues about Tinasha's oh-so-tragic past. Unfortunately, this is not only rather boring and annoying when you consider what potential it could have had, but the anime also just beats around the bush the whole time. An event happens here, a fight is completed and we get another grain of rice of relevant information - after 2+ episodes.

Unfortunately, this means that I don't like a lot of things about the series, and Tinasha herself in particular annoys me in every conceivable way. These aspects range from the fact that I find many of her character traits incomprehensible to all the scenes in which the oh-so-powerful witch is hurt or at least cornered.

On the other hand, Oscar shines as an amorous fool who would destroy the world in order to marry Tinasha, which is what entertained me most about this series. Conquer a life-threatening dungeon? No problem, new world record if he can see the witch! What's more, the aristocratic world, which keeps trying to talk him out of seeing the witch, at least plays a role in his scenes.

Conclusion on the first 5 episodes: In the end, the anime went in a completely different direction than I had hoped. I can't stand Tinasha in any case, even if she's not bad enough for me to cancel the anime or something.

I thought i already watched all of this anime episode, I didnt even realize that the eps 11 that i watched was not the end of this season. Then, eps 12 ends really bad and force us to watch the 2nd season. Many people will think that this anime better end with season 1 11 eps rather than S1 + eps 12 with S2. Anyone agree? feel free to spread your emotion with emoji/react.

It has high quality of art style, design. But animation is just bad.

Low quality of animation, at some fight scene it just looks bad, drawless and feels like animated using ... X-Y transition with adobe.

Music: 7/10
BGM is good, opening and closing is quite good. The way studio put the opening and closing at some episodes it looks bad, better that just put it on the first second of the video rather than bad transition.

Story: 8/10 Without eps 12
All good, romance and character progression is good but this anime rush the story too fast some point.

Conclusion:
I want to rate it 8 (floored from 7+) but because I saw eps 12, I'll just go with 5. I'm sorry for that.

story-wise, it's quite bland but they tried to give it some spice by adding some "side quests", which just sprung out of nowhere and have nothing to do with the main story. nevertheless, it was quite enjoyable.
This story has one of the character development methods of all time. There are not enough occurrences for any of the characters to develop as they did in the story.
romance-wise tho, peak interactions that are exactly what I miss in my life.
The world-building is great and well-connected but it felt like you could've done more with it regarding its depth, and add more to the story.
the studio did ... well honestly with the fights and you felt like you could follow what was happening without compromising the quality.
my take is, that this anime needed to be at least 24 episodes and give the fights, conversations, different occurrences and different characters that appear out of nowhere some depth.

how to make an average story somewhat good 101? add time travel to it out of nowhere. Good plot, and bad delivery.

Unnamed Memory is one of many anime that i hyped up because i read the novel and fell in love with the characterizations. BUT the adaptations were marred with sub par animations and half assed adaptations. BUT Tanezaki Atsumi as Tinaasha performance is one of her best.

Basically Unnamed Memory is about Oskar who wants to know how to get rid his curse. He challenged the Azure Moon Witch tower to talk to her about it. Surprisingly the Witch is an attractive young woman in her mid 20's, named Tinaasha (although she lived for thousands of year). Oskar later proposed on the spot because she ... can fix the curse, and very attractive woman. Although Tinaasha vehemently rejected the idea but she agrees to become his protector for one year while searching how to remove the curse.

Fight scene were horrible, jagged animations and clearly made in 2004, event Full Metal Panic has better fight scene

The chemistry between Oskar and Tinaasha is very much like me and my SO's relationship. We discussed something serious, i quipped something stupid and we become dumb together. Tanezaki Atsumi as Tinaasha undoubtedly one of her best role because she can change that quickly from serious tone, to dumb tone, back again to serious tone.

Hard for me to recommend this because at one hand, the relationship between Oskar and Tinaasha is dumb cute, but the rest is meh at best.
if you have access to the novel, might as well read it. if not then watch the anime because they literally skim the whole arc in one season

A much as I would love to love this anime, I can't ignore the faults in how rushed everything is. I appreciate what is layed out before us, but this feels like the studio was told they wouldn't get a season 2 and to wrap up the whole thing in one, and at the last minute, approved for a season 2. I absolutely love the characters and story, but half of it is just missing. You really need to fill in the gaps and understand what isn't shown or told. If I were to put this show the best way, It would be a piece ... of unrefined gold ore on display at a jewellery store. You can see the glitters of something beautiful. But due to the massive rush job, sits covered in rock and split in half due to a rush job trying to clean it up. If you can appreciate what is there and what could have been if more time was given, I don't think you will hate this show. I want this show to be one of my top 5, I can see it had the potential from the source material, but mismanagement has caused it to fall short.
