Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season - Kanketsu-hen

Okay, as a person who read the ending the of manga first, I believe this was a bit better than what I was expecting. That is not to say it was what I wanted to see. In both this and the manga the ending of aot felt rushed, granted this feels version explains more on Ymir, Eren, and Mikasa interactions. The anime additions make the pace feel slow, extremely slow. AOT is a slightly above average story after you read/watch it, but as you are progressing through it for the first time it's a masterpiece. This is from the large amount of information not exposed ... to the reader until a certain point in the story. The author managed to do this well do to him planning backwards. He made rough idea of what he wanted the ending to be and made the story revolving on that ending. The problem comes in when the author was not that great of a writer at the start, and as his story making abilities were getting better, his original vision constrained him into to making this kind of conclusion. I would still recommend aot to others, but not as highly as before.

Kind of a let down.
What worked for this show was the spectacle, having genuinely entertaining twists and it seeming like it would have something insightful to say eventually--ultimately it didn’t. In some ways maybe it tried to have elements of something like Evangelion’s avant-garde ending, and again lacked the actual emotional insight that had.

The fighting lacked stakes and just felt empty like a bland blockbuster's climactic battle where more enemies supposedly makes it better. The addition of the political conspiracy stuff in season two did end up working by season three, but it’s gotta have the dark fantasy tragedy action to go with ... it–this was just action, and not even that well-choreographed (though there were some cool moments of course) and just felt like padding. Also Mikasa and Eren’s love story is barely developed so I don’t know why so much time is spent on it.

The best stuff this show had was the simple humanity barely surviving while looking cool as steampunk spidermen-people fighting flesh-mech titans in well-choreographed fights. That stuff rules and when this show is leaning into that and firing on all cyclinders it's phenomenal.

Ultimately it never beat its first season, had a major dip in quality in the second season, took too long to get good again (not until some time in the third season), and then didn't stick the landing in the end.

Disappointed with this ending💔😭

I wish the creator would change the ending. I enjoyed the previous episodes so much, but I felt betrayed by how Eren’s friends turned against him. I know it was all Eren’s plan and he wanted to die and make his friends heroes. But there were many other ways too. There was no need to start the rumbling and kill people in the first place. Then he wouldn’t have been forced to take that decision. He loved Mikasa with all his heart, and he even confessed it, but she still killed him. The war didn’t end either. They showed that the ... Titans would come back again in the end. What was the point of killing 80% of humanity and dying for nothing? The anime director didn’t have to follow the manga strictly. He could have changed the story. He saw that people were not happy with the manga ending, but he still copied everything from the manga. I can’t accept this from this show. It was my all-time favourite anime. But after this ending, it became my most hated anime. I hoped the creator would change the ending, but he didn’t. He just followed the manga. I was so depressed by Eren’s death and how it all ended😔😭.
Please correct the ending by releasing another episode. We want Eren alive. 🙏

I haven't liked Shingeki no Kyojin's story ever since the big reveal at the end of Season 3. I felt that direction was a massive letdown from where the story was taking us at that point; and even though yes all of the hints were there, I felt that taking the show in the direction it went stripped it of a lot of the best things that made it what it was in the early goings of the series. Going in the direction that the show went turned most of the themes it was trying to discuss into repeats of themes ... I had already explored elsewhere in other mecha anime. The story beats became predictable, and the conclusion of the story became a long, messy, and drawn out slog that kept trying to justify its own length unsuccessfully.

And yet, despite how much I wasn't enjoying the story for the last couple seasons, I cannot help but give the series as a whole a solid grade because of how quality the animation and sound design is. Attack on Titan will set the bar for many years to come. just like Evangelion did before it, for how far you can push this medium in terms of grand and epic stories, and what you can make them look and sound like.

I may not have ended up liking Attack on Titan's story at the end of the journey, but I am thankful for the journey I was able to go on with it anyway. It was a huge part of my getting back into anime back in 2013, and it has my full endorsement as a modern classic that every fan should eventually see. It doesn't mean every fan will enjoy it to the same extent, but every fan should at least be able to appreciate it for what it is.

Episode 1: Impressive beginning, lackluster ending
I've really been waiting for this ending. We've all been waiting for it for 9 years. Based on the amazing experiences that viewers have witnessed throughout the 4 seasons of AOT, it's not hard to say most of us have high expectations for the final 2 episodes. I was no exception. I will not specifically evaluate the obvious and separate content such as Art, Music, ... because we have one more ep ahead. I'll just focus on the emotions, the story.
The story is divided into chapters, and ep 1 consists of 2 chapters. Regarding chapter 1, I would probably like ... to give Hajime a compliment, this chapter has a very well maintained appeal from the end of ep 12 of season Final - Part 2. The rumbling of the colossal titans and the aftermath of this is told very genuine. Although there are a few places that are a bit rushed, it still causes obsession to a certain extent. However, accompanying this story is a rather confusing character development. It's Eren. I don't know how to feel about him. Eren's thoughts and feelings cause confusion for viewers. This has been shown in many episodes of the final season, and I'm sick of seeing Eren's unclear views. If he's a good guy, show the viewer proof of that. And if he's turned evil, or it's some compulsion that makes him the bad guy, don't let the viewers see him cry with regret, and then he act very brutal. In contrast to that, Armin's relationship with Annie attracts attention in a positive way. It can be said that the interaction between the two of them is the highlight of this ep and perhaps the whole AOT story. Very sweet and natural. It can be said that the next two impressive characters are Hanji and Floch. They all have very cool and bright scenes. The other characters do not appear and then disappear. They each have their own value in the story. I'm pretty sorry for Gabi, she gave the playing field to other characters. In general, chapter 1 focuses on psychological development, so the action scenes are not much. I was also a bit disappointed. But the experience is still great.
But by chapter 2, which can also be said to be the end of ep 1, it was a bit of a letdown for me. Nothing particularly impressive. The fact that Eren communicates with people using Wifi-Eldia waves (I guess) only makes the story quite funny and unreal. The new details from Falco's dream are still only a small amount of interest, everything seems to be saved for ep 2. As for the fact that the members of Liberio unwittingly gathered in the place of the final battle, this is what makes me feel... bored. There are no surprises here. Even the white beard man - the general expressing the feelings of the entire human race through the loudspeaker... this is a bit childish. And the end is all in one place. End. This is not what I expect at the end of an important ep. Even though everything is still in ep 2, I was disappointed. That's the problem.

So, the most popular anime of our time just ended. And unfortunately it ended in a way I wouldn't exactly describe as great. This series introduced me, like many others, to the medium of anime and as a whole, it is still among my favorites. So of course I wanted the ending to be great. But it just wasn't. I don't hate it per se, it's not the worst ending ever, and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it, but given how great this ... series once was, it might just be one of the most disappointings ending ever.

But I want to be as fair as possible here. There's a lot to love in these episodes. I actually think the first of the two is genuinely great, it has one of the most powerful death scenes in the series and really feels like it could be the beginning of a great final battle. But then the actual battle starts... and it's not very good. I mean, it looks great, MAPPA did the best they could with what they had to work with and the final episode has some of the best animation in the entire series, but the actual content of the scenes is just not good. And that's primarily due to the insane amounts of plot armor our main characters have. I mean, this is supposed to be the final battle of a series that was once known for the fact that no character is safe. Anyone could die. But it really feels like Isayama just didn't want to kill off anyone, no matter how unrealistic or anticlimactic the finale would be as a result. And I hate that. There are so many opportunities for emotional and meaningful scenes, but they're totally wasted.

And at the end of the day, I really don't even know what Isayama was going for with this ending. And I don't think he did either. Sometimes it feels like a happy ending, sometimes it feels like a tragedy, but it never fully commits to being either. The final product is a pretty but lukewarm conclusion to a series that deserved so much better. Oh well, at least we got something new from Linked Horizon, they never disappoint.

There are so many things I want to say about Attack on Titan, the day has finally come where I can review this show knowing how it began to end. I have been watching this show since the very day it came out in 2013. At first, I liked the show, I thought the premise or point of the show was different/good. I think the author had some really good ideas. And there are some good pathways this author could have taken with their ideas. However, I am going to be making my review overall on the current time and what we know now. This ... review also includes me as a reader, as I also read the manga and completed the manga. So, I am coming with this as a full watcher and reader of Attack on Titan. So, this will not be some BS review. Even if I dislike a show, I will do my HW before spouting a review.

1 What keeps this show going and makes it good is the absolute amazing animation by the animators and action scenes. The people animating in WIT Studio/MAPPA are talented and deserve good pay. Everyone can agree, the amount of effort that went into animating for the show is amazing. So, I have zero reviews on that, as they did a great job.

2) HOWEVER, if you remove the amazing action scenes, pretty animating. Which we can all agree is about 9999% of the show. The show reveals how absolute garbage it is. When I say this, I mean the writing. When I say garbage, I am speaking on many factors, which will be laid out below. Now I am sure a fan will be reading what I just said and before a fan says to this review, "you must not know good anime, your review is in poor taste." Let me explain first why I say this as an almost 20-year anime watcher. I have seen many variations of well written anime, poor written anime, & anime masterpieces. As I am sure many would say the same. But there is a reason I am bringing this up.

Review:
Story Line/Character Development:
I would say this show in some respects lacks character development and say, 50/50% character development occurs between some characters but not all of them or consistently. The show is all over the place and I would say some of the characters really seem to develop sporadically, especially in season 4. Which is one of the pet peeves I have about this show. That is what makes it hard to really rate the show. This show at times is so hard to follow because of this, which is affected by the writing. There are so many plots, side characters, story arcs. The only characters I felt connected to and liked and felt they were well written were Armin, Gabi, Levi, Reiner, Connie, Sasha, Hange, Picolo, Zeke. There may be some I am missing, but those are the ones who are on the top of my head. I absolutely adored these characters; they had a goal which stayed consistent with the entire show. You can see and understand why they are corpse members, how they interact with side characters, and their families. In addition, their views changed, and you see they have a goal, to make society better. Reiner ironically became a character I liked. This shows me why and how a character gets to how they become, and how they reach the end. I also noticed a lot of side characters were better written than EREN or Mikasa. Let me start off by saying, I DO NOT LIKE EREN or Mikasa and how they are both written. Women in this show are written so poorly, it makes me sad as a strong woman myself. I liked Eren in the earlier seasons. I also always wondered why Levi Hated Eren all along and called him selfish. Heck, ironically an imaginary character was calling out bad characters. I feel Eren is the most psychopathic, poorly written selfish character I have ever seen. And that isn’t even a critique, as this is a distaste in personality, but the critique comes in is I feel nothing for this character. This character has never showed compassion, this character just is pure evil. This character never had a purpose. The purpose of Eren starts off as a loving child who’s goal is to save humanity and to learn about the titans, which is simple, understandable, and makes sense. But how we get to season 04 is not translated in earlier seasons as the show and manga start off with one theme, KILL THE TITANS. But Eren, his character never has any personality, as most of them do not. The character just expects everyone to jerk off to him metaphorically and suffer around him and they do when we get to season 04. Mikasa, never shows character development. All she does is follow Eren. I have no idea who Mikasa is, about her homeland, and what she believes in. I just know this woman says ERIN, ERRRREENNNN. It reminds me of a toxic relationship almost, how all Mikasa does is say, EREN, EREN, EREN, ERENNNNNNN. In the last chapter special, I was appalled to see the characters running towards small Eren. Stating, “LET US TAKE THE BURDEN OFF OF YOU.” While Eren literally wipes out their loved ones with no problem. Saying nobody is free, but, Eren has free will. Eren says he is doing this to save his people but has no problem wiping all the characters’ families loved one’s off. This character has stayed consistent all along, yet the characters in the show think Eren is suffering and trying to make all these interpretations about him, and he is a good guy. When at the end of the day, Eren thinks freedom is you decide if you want to stop me. But Imma keeps doing me boo. Which is again, a toxic relationship. And not how I would picture anyone to really react to killing their loved ones off. Your loved ones are being murdered by someone who has full control of their thoughts, emotions, etc. Each character had a goal and the whole them is kill the titans, like I said above. The whole show is written around basically this one character. Then drastically changes in season 04. Eren went from being selfish to everyone is my bitch in a split second. Everything surrounds this character, every action, every move, etc.

Story Line: Which is one of the pet peeves I have about this how. This show at times is so hard to follow, which affects the writing. I mentioned this above because every time a new season would return, I’d find myself confused. I thought at first that was normal, but it is not. As I came to discover, the author who created the story had no idea what the plot was initially. In an interview he said he didn’t even know where the show/characters were going. Which it also makes it hard for me to write the review. Because while I see some awesome ideas, they are not registering well in the show. Everything is going all over the place, and there is so much information you need to understand the show. You are less able to really critique it, because you are spending time trying to understand where it is going.
Going back to the character development, this toggles into the character development/lack thereof. Eren says he has one goal, “move forward.” However, the show teaches that destruction is the answer. While showing characters who disagree, the change in characters going from I hate this set of people to, I fucked up. I am about to die; can I take it back now?” While that may pose true in reality, I can see how that is something to present.

Conclusion: The author had many great ideas, but poorly executes them. The author had great characters and poorly writes them and because the author does not have a set path, so everything presents all over the place. I WOULD not recommend this as a starter anime. Too much confusion and parts to follow. Almost like following a bad relationship, trying to put all the pieces together.

After almost a decade AoT came to it's conclusion, if you either did or didn't like these last seasons you still have to admit that this anime has become iconic in it's way and will (if it still hasn't) become an all time classic. The narration is the usual from the last seasons and the animation is good for the time the studio had, having some scenes that are better and some that are worse. But what really made us stick to this story is the bond that we made with these characters that come to their conclusion and this last two episodes don't fail ... in sharing their feelings with us, almost like we were there along with them along all the story. Everybody has mixed feelings about the ending, I find it acceptable, yes, Isayama could have done it better in another way but I still think it's not as bad as people talk about. If you enjoyed all that got introduced after Eren opens the basement than you will definitely like this conclusive season.

I knew it was over with the manga years ago, so seeing it animated is bittersweet indeed. Nothing to look forward to anymore. Though I am happy to ride this fun ride. Way back in the day I thought it was all over after season 1. We had to wait ages for season 2 and the franchise kept evolving. Scary, to think it could have all ended so much earlier or even earleir if no one had given Isayama's Manga a chance (his drawings were pretty bad :D).

Perfectly done by Mappa. Isayama can be very happy to have worked with yet another great studio that ... was very faithful to his work and even put some of the more... confucing panels into animated action. Andy, boy the animation was awesome and consistent - crazy with all that was going on. Voice acting great, visuals stunning, soundtrack more of the same. The safe way for a series finale but I wish we had gotten some tracks since the first part of the "final season".

Structuring the finale into chapters really broke the flow though.. more than having individual episodes if you ask me since the length suggests a movie experience.

Story
Yes, I disliked certain choices and the way some characters changed and their choices... but that makes a fantastic story, right? I really longed to see Eren united with Mikasa and given him a brake but this wasn't a friendly franchise to begin with and why should the protagonist get of easy right.

Though, I do appreciate Isayama wrapping up the franchise and its main story, I, to this day, do not think it fits its overall tone. All the characters lost the ugly side of humanity and it was pristine and to good to be true and pretty much cheesy. Didn't like the extended "Gangs of New York style" ending either. If they plan to map the world's future expand on it, do it but don't make things up to give us these cheap shots some sort of fans crave. But maybe I am all wrong and a "cringe" Eren planted his consciousness like a seed in his head and will reign terror and get what he wants as a new source of all living matter, force a new Mikasa to be born and they will live in all ternity. I am shook to the core and almost threw up and, yes, I cried. This world will always be an important part in my life though it is a chapter that ended since it won't change and evolve anymore.

The movie continues to delve deep into the characters' motivations, feelings, and thoughts. Naturally, the primary focus is on Eren and the rumbling, but we are also granted further insight into his reasoning behind this cataclysmic event. We witness how he grapples with accepting the inevitable.

With all the characters now united, we are treated to some truly fascinating interactions among them. They still struggle to comprehend Eren's decision to unleash the rumbling, but through their collective efforts, they begin to glimpse the driving force behind Eren's actions—the Founding Titan, the mastermind orchestrating this destruction.

The movie certainly doesn't shy away from depicting the sheer devastation caused ... by this catastrophe, and the animation is nothing short of splendid, though not necessarily groundbreaking. While some viewers had reservations about the use of CGI for Titans, especially during the early episodes of the final season, it's evident that the studio has refined its craft. CGI seamlessly blends into the movie, feeling natural, and I'm confident that the vast majority of the audience will have no qualms with it.

I'd be dishonest if I claimed there were any earth-shattering plot twists that rivet the audience; in truth, there aren't any. However, this isn't necessarily a detriment in itself. The special episode (movie) remains faithful to the groundwork laid thus far. Regrettably, it doesn't seem to build substantially upon that foundation, which does lead to moments of monotony, akin to someone always choosing the same drink at the bar.

Moreover, the story occasionally leans towards convenience, with certain plot elements feeling contrived to achieve specific outcomes. While this doesn't break the plot or immersion, it may raise an eyebrow or two.

In summary, the first of the two movies is a solid addition to the culmination of Attack on Titan's final chapters of final season of final season (yes, this is a joke), but it doesn't quite transcend that status. I can't help but hope for the return of that unique feeling of captivation and wonder I experienced during the first three seasons of the series.

Only two days old and has a rating of 9.23 leagues above fmab 9.11, An one hour length short "movie" was enough to sway an entire *colossal* army into believing its the best of the best... granted it was enjoyable from beginning to end but imagine it went sour it would still be granted top 10, like demon slayer mugen movie that was decent at that and the ending fight was amazing but didn't deserve the outburst it got. Come on this isn't even the finale and fans are going mental (the first part at the time of reviewing this) imagine what rating that ... will have once it launches.

I guess it doesn't go overboard with countless 100+ episodes like my hero and so on.

The journey up till now has been nothing short of a masterpiece, following this anime for so long, just for it to end up in the dumpster has been nothing short of disappointing, to say the least...
Watching a man build up an excellent story for a decade or more, just to throw it all away because of burnout/other reasons has been a sad sight, but not an unique scenario.
After so many rumors of Isayama changing the ending a few times, it's truly a shame that we did not get to witness his actual vision...

The animation, voice acting and sound design were all absolutely top-tier, ... nothing new here. The team put in a lot of effort into this adaptation, so there's nothing to complain about here.

Overall, to stay spoiler free, I'd recommend for nobody to finish watching the final special, the 1st part was still an enjoyable experience, but I'd say stay far clear away from the 2nd part and just treat the 1st part as pseudo-ending.
