5-toubun no Hanayome Movie

I watched the movie with a friend of mine at 2 am and we were both on the verge of tears at the end of the movie. We really enjoyed the movie and I, as a manga reader, even thought that the movie has delivered the ending better than the manga did. Mainly because the music was absolutely touching, the animation was great and every single flashback fit so well to the scene.
After I read some reviews on MAL on this movie, I was surprised on how many people did not enjoy the movie, mainly because a) the "character with the least development" won, b) ... it skipped too many scenes from the manga or c) the romance in this movie is bad. So I've decided to write a review myself to give a bit of support to those people who actually liked the movie.

If you still don't know who the bride is going to be, I'm recommending you to stop reading this or any review on MAL due to spoilers.

Starting with point a), I want to clarify that I like all five sisters and neither of them deserve to lose in my opinion. However, people saying that the MC choosing Yotsuba is unrealistic and weird is just nonsense to me. I don't want to explain it further because Twitter has gone through this discussion a hundred times already, but you should know that character development is just an element for the plot of a story and not a requirement for a character to be good, or at least for a character to be "chosen" in a harem anime. You wouldn't expect your crush to go through an entire character arc in order for you to marry him/her, or would you? It is pretty understandable that the MC chose Yotsuba if he already loves the way she is from the beginning. Besides, her character development did in fact happen while she was younger, right after meeting the MC in Kyoto to the point where she realizes she doesn't need to be better than her sisters. Nino and Miku in fact got more development throughout the story, yes, but because of that, the fact that the MC didn't choose them is even more heart-wrenching and the scene where Nino and Miku hug each other at school knowing they've lost the love-war got emotionally more powerful.

Going on with point b), I personally thought that they did a pretty good job on only picking the most important scenes of the manga to put in the movie. The movie got even stretched to more than 2 hours, so do people want it to be even longer when they say they left out too many scenes? I agree that it would be better storytelling-wise if this anime got a third season instead of a movie, but they must surely had their reasons why they've decided to only make a movie. The pacing for me was absolutely fine, but I do believe that non-manga readers may get confused at some point due to some scenes that got left out, but it wouldn't be a big deal for understanding the main plot or the ending anyway. I also partly agree to people saying that the movie was just a sequence of TV anime episodes packed into a movie. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching the movie as a movie - it got its proper introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.

Finally to point c), its subjective whether someone enjoys the romance or not. However, this movie isn't just purely about romance, it's also about family. Especially in the movie, we could see that no matter how many times the bond between the sisters gets damaged, they always manage to realize that they have to stay together, also because their late mother told them to do so. And watching the sisters getting along well at the end of the movie just makes me so happy. Plus, the development of the Nakano father was also quite nice to watch, especially when you see that he does in fact care for her daughters. I definitely liked when he asked the MC at the wedding if Yotsuba is really "happy from the bottom of her heart". You can clearly see a difference between the Nakano family in the 2 TV seasons and the Nakano family in the movie.

All in all, I absolutely enjoyed watching this piece of art, it was a rollercoaster of emotions all throughout the movie with elements of romance, comedy and drama. The music was always perfectly fitting the mood of the scene and overall well composed, the animation is as great as it was in the second season. They did a fantastic job on putting all the remaining important manga content in a movie which actually builds up towards the end. The ending itself is well-written and I love the idea of playing the quintuplets game (where the MC has to guess who is who) at the wedding, going through all five sisters and what makes them special, both for Fuutarou and Yotsuba. That was the emotional peak of the movie.

-> A must-watch for everyone who enjoyed the TV show. And please don't write bad reviews only because the girl you like didn't get chosen, even if you can list hundreds of reasons why your girl would be the much better option. Have you ever heard "The Distance" by Cake? It's a wonderful alternative rock track that came out in the 90s' by a band that deserves more recognition for being incredibly creative and fun. The song is about a relationship. A racing junkie, spending time practicing and practicing, neglecting his lover. This obsession destroys the idea ... of 'them'. He's unable to do the right thing, but still "thinking of someone for whom he still burns" and she's "hoping in time that her memories will fade". The inability to admit wrongdoing, to make things right, and the irony of doing something so fast that something else slowly decays and dies, alone.

That's how I feel Quintessential Quintuplets went. After a heartwarming, enjoyable build-up with great character development and believable bonds, it feels like there was just a finish line that had to be reached - that the moment every character showed an interest in our lead, an ending had to be right around the corner. That progressive creation of attachment to a story and the characters within was thrown to the side in favor of a blazing dash. A loving story was built and an ending was rushed, the speed of the last lap tainting it overall.

The adaptation problem comes from that blazing dash being fit into a single movie. The first season handled the first thirty-two chapters and the second continues up to chapter eighty-six... with some basic math, this movie covers over thirty chapters in a roughly two hour runtime. Everything that goes on in the manga can't be conveyed in this amount of time AND doesn't fit in a movie format. I read the manga earlier in the year and had no clue how they would structure a movie competently with everything they had to cover - encompassing the school festival and the aftermath could've probably been done, but there's quite a bit before: giant character development for Yotsuba and a comedic visit to the pool that's the first event after Fuutarou (and the audience) realizes that they all like him and have different motivations for doing so.
Yotsuba desperately needed this time to shine, giving her background and filling in the blanks of events shows that not only was she the first to fall for him all those years ago, but that despite that, she continued to support her sisters and bottle up her own feelings in a desperate attempt to keep harmony - a harmony she threatened by teenage angst. Bits and pieces of this are shown throughout, but by not presenting information in the same way the manga did, Yotsuba lacks significant depth. I think that a lot of people didn't understand why Yotsuba won by just watching the show and then reading who won. It's true! Yotsuba, out of every Quint, has the least character development and before this explanation (which occurs RIGHT after season two ended), I wouldn't believe it either. I was lucky enough to not know who won when I read the manga, my only information was that Nino and Ichika didn't win. After this segment, I finally thought that Yotsuba was a worthy candidate. Sure, it's harder to root for her when her sisters received more things to do, but I thought it worked. By withholding this information by either completely ignoring it or saving it until later, it's harder to swallow who wins.
The public pool visit is probably one of the last, complete parts of the story that fits with the tone and feeling built beforehand. It ups the jealously and shenanigans and it's very fun. I would talk about it more, but the movie decides to diminish this entire event to an opening, music-driven slideshow. That's how we'll fit everything in!
By altering where information is placed, contracting and failing to include events in the favor of presenting a movie experience, 5-toubun no Hanayome Movie completely fails to capture the magic and instead presents a boring, by-the-numbers, badly-paced need-to-finish.

The overall problem however is the source material's decision to end. In an industry with series that refuse to conclude, it's always painful seeing something not take the time needed to reach a satisfying stopping point. The quote utilized to open this review is from Fuutarou, he says this to Ichika when asked who he'll choose. Later in the film, she declares something along the lines of "you always knew" which I totally believe, but that hesitation is a clear indication of well, hesitation.
Yotsuba gave him the motivation to become who he is today, that single day meant the world to him. There's precedent, a long withstanding impact and being indebted to one person for providing it, but new bonds sometimes trump those. The strength of new information and new experiences can lead to the past being sidelined, tastes change, and while that doesn't mean an unappreciation for what came before, it does mean a bias towards what matters now... and this point is EVEN illustrated! An old childhood crush comes to visit the school festival to see Fuutarou, and he defends the Quints and how much they mean to him, showing an obvious bias. After spending so much time with everyone, I can't see such a decision being reached so quickly purely based on finding out who was the Rena who changed his life.
Itsuki spent time with his family, showing the most appreciation when it came to what he was doing and relating heavily to his family situation. Nino was the most forward in her feelings through a learning curve: he wasn't an obstacle but rather a caring individual, someone to be embraced, a catalyst for learning that new is okay, and by being the most upfront, gave Fuutarou his first blatant, eye-witness experience with love (a big push when you're that dense). Ichika helped him understand how each Quint operated and encouraged the romantic feelings to fly, while he had a similar impact by ignoring his studious instinct and urging her to do what she wanted even if it was non-educational. Miku worked up immense courage, breaking out of her shell to express love and admiration for someone that wasn't family, but also towards her family members by becoming more comfortable in being herself. I'm totally fine with Yotsuba winning, as stated previously I think that those first chapters in volume eleven truly flesh her out and give her a lot more to work with. She was the one that gave Fuutarou that initial spark and she continuously showed support verbally and in action to not only her sisters but everyone around her as well - an incredibly selfless person.
They all have their pros, all have their cons, and the immediate Yotusba decision is harder to believe when the others weren't sitting on their hands, they were active and multi-dimensional. And many of these 'active' characters had their development rushed just for the label "finished" to be thrown on (Itsuki's is the most offensive). I understand the want to put a fire underneath the ass of the characters, high school is almost over and everyone will be splitting up doing their own thing (and that's already being shown in the story), let's go forward. Yet, doesn't the idea of continuing during the beginning of those career paths seem like a logical next step? A stepping stone for more shenanigans, more one-on-one interactions, and more chances to delve into what makes these characters tick? Visiting each other in different cities, different elements, introducing each other to their new lives and showing that love holds out in these situations... eh, crying over spilled milk.

As one can tell, The Quintessential Quintuplets means a lot to me. It was the anime that got me into the medium and has led me to find more enjoyable experiences - where SAO failed to make me a fan, Quints succeeded. It'll always have a special place to me, a guilty pleasure that I think is well-written and very enjoyable. It's not perfect at all, a lot of imperfections exist and it isn't for everyone, but not everything we care deeply for is.

Beautifully animated. This OST has always been soothing and fitting, the VAs do a fantastic job, and despite all my complaining, there are genuinely great moments here. I smiled and felt the warmth, but via a much weaker flame emerging from a significantly weaker package.

A bad adaptation of the worst part of the manga. They didn't even animate that panel of Itsuki yelling.

I just have to get this off my chest.

The fact that one girl worked hard and had a "better character arc" does not warrant them being the winning girl. Life takes many twists and turns, and you never know where you might end up in the end. You may put all your guts towards reaching your dream but ultimately there's no guarantee you'll achieve it. Having that one person in your life also does not guarantee your happiness because 1) you're not entitled to mutual feelings and 2) happiness and fulfillment will not be brought to you by someone else's or something else's existence in ... your life, it comes from within you, understanding that you're the only one who can make you happy.

Fuutarou spent a long time contemplating his feelings. He knew, just like we did, that he has to choose one of the girls if he wants their and his feelings to amount to something. He knew that a choice had to be made. But your heart is what it is, you can't force it to feel a certain way. But it also knows exactly what it wants. He just had to ask it and search for his feelings. And by the end, his discovery was that throughout all of this, he deep down loved just the one.

You might have the urge to say this just happened to be that way, it could've all easily ended up another way. And you'd be right, in a sense. The reason he chose her IS the circumstances that lead to that point. All the experiences that he had up to that point had built up to this moment and culminated with his heart's final verdict, and who are we to rule against his heart? I know this is all fictional and I'm starting to sound kinda deranged but this is very much how it happens in real life. People just happen to fall in love as they live their life. The saying is as old as time itself: we do not choose who we love.

This series was in the back of my mind for a long time after I finished watching the second season. I knew that we'll end up with one of the sisters as the bride, but I just couldn't imagine how anyone could objectively choose that one girl to end up as the winning girl in the end of the story. And that's exactly it: there is no place for objectivity to be had in the final decision. I knew that it would absolutely feel cheap if the outcome of the story had some rationalized reasoning behind its existence. Cuz that's not how love works. Feelings are beyond the reach of your rationalizations. Love does not obey any logical reasoning, and neither does it have to. You love who you love, and that's just that. And I'm glad that this series made me realize that once again.

This movie is the finale for the whole anime series. The manga finished 3 years ago and most of the people knew pretty much what was going to happen including me even though I didn't finish the manga fully.

The start of the movie had a bit weird storytelling but we can understand since there are 5 sisters with different POV's. Even though the start was a bit complicated they actually went with a good pace and ended it really well in my opinion. Even though I knew who would be the winner from the start like most of the people I didn't have much ... hype for this movie but watching it my hype just kept increasing. In my opinion this was a great finisher for the entire series. It was filled with emotions and it was a really enjoyable watch for me.

I guess in the end what made this series so enjoyable is the community itself. It was really fun to see people debating over who would win in the end (I'm a Nino supporter :D). Well for me this movie was an amazing watch and if you're thinking about watching it that means you probably watched 2 previous seasons so go on.

Just watched this at the cinema today, and boy it was a ride.

To start off, well, every one of the girls shone, and had their own piece of the pie on the story, and for themselves and their simps, too. Generally speaking, the movie wasn't biased and lets the viewers enjoy their picks, that is until the dust settles and then coming down to the winner, which of course, I wouldn't spoil.

Storywise, it was great, lighthearted at times, but gets serious when needs to be. Now, it could've been better, but honestly, it can be easily overlooked due to how some scenes were able to ... immerse the viewers, whether the maidenless behaviour, or to boo. Very well done pacing too. Some thought otherwise, but you'll have to remember that this is a movie, not a series.

Next, animation and soundtrack. Beautiful, nothing else to say, see it for yourself. High effort by the studio, and don't forget the voice actors/actresses, thank you.

To conclude, just watch the movie. Sure it had areas, scenarios where it could have been executed better, or have taken a different route with same outcome, but honestly, if you've watched s2 and loved it like I did, or even a maximum of 6-7 on your rating, depending on how high you rate shows of course, I don't see a reason not to watch this amazing finale to the series.

Oh and those hating or giving garbogo rating just cause your best girl did not win, please stop and touch grass.

Tbh I dont really care how I write this review as I will write this movie as honestly on how I feel. So im not really going to critic, or really review but share my thoughts about the movie.

This has been my favorite series in all of anime because of how the story build, how funny, and dramatic the show can get. Its all I want for a Romance/Harem anime and it certainly included all that. With the movie putting the cherry on top to finish was truly the best masterpiece Ive ever wactched by far. It really showed the character development on ... each sister which made me enjoy the show a lot.

Although the winner is not the one I wanted, it was totally understandable on why fuutaro chose her. This series as a whole has been a huge journey, a rollercoaster of emotions, and a story that embelish the characters that make each of the sisters likeable. This will forever be a goat in my books of anime and will be on top for a while, the anime overall was enjoyable, well writen, and certainly worth watching.

I wish I could erase my memory and watch it all over again as this will be the last we will see the quintuplets again. I will definitely miss this series, but will forever be in my heart and memories. Thank you for this amazing journey from 2020-2022, honestly worth the wait and I enjoyed it a lot.

bro stop hating; this movie was amazing for what it is.

Manga readers have a superiority complex, but they don't understand in order to adapt about 40 chapters and compressing that is hard. It had very enjoyable moments and the most important part is that best girl one, and most people were meat riding. This movie is enjoyable and connects to the anime series very well. The over all story was well rounded and a good wrap up to the series.

The manga readers are gonna hate but its pretty good. You can tell all the characters have matured and liking to these characters would have ... increased due to the over all experiences we saw in the past 2 series.

The ending was controversial to say the least. The most underappreciated girl won, somehow. This ending was pretty much just "yeah imma pick the one that has 0 development" and go forward.
The show definitely has the average harem route, with the generic character personalities. You got the "tsundere" which always ends up liking the main character, the dumbass, the snake, and the edgy one. (Itsuki is a combination of all of them really.)
One nice thing about this was the "unique" main ... character. An honest guy, trying to succeed. I like that.
To be honest, the art isn't all that special (it's nice for sure) and neither is the music.
This anime/manga is extremely similar to We Never Learn, (although I don't know which came out first) and I still liked We Never Learn more.
5-toubun had potential for sure, and kudos to the production team for not skipping so many big plot points during production.
But as a whole, (manga/anime) this did flop.

The movie follows the main mangas story and ends on that path as well, which is the most controversial, undesirable, and confusing choices of all. The story does take time to go in depth with each character and help them overcome their struggles, even overcoming them; when it comes to quality, it matches the anime in more ways than one; however the ending isn't anything special... the ending ruins a perfectly good story and feels more of a rushed ending, rather than a genuine happy ending; plus if you watched the second season of 5-toubun no Hanayome; then you'll be able to figure out which ... person is chosen without watching the movie. The ending put nearly everything else that the movie accomplished into the garbage bin. It's definitely worth the watch, however; you should read the manga, and the alternative endings; as each alternative ending make more sense then the main one.

To be fair, I didn't know what I was supposed to expect after being disappointed with the manga's ending. However, I still wanted to watch the movie to close the cover on this franchise because I do enjoy the franchise and characters as a whole. There is a quote that Glass Reflection says often that always sticks with me, and that is that the ending is paramount. How a series ends can heavily dictate how you will remember a franchise and your overall impressions of it.

I can go on and on why this show does not do every quint justice in terms of romantic ... development with our male lead, but if you read the adaptational source, you fully know what I am talking about. The film does not change anything, and while its probably for the best that they didn't stray away from the accuracy of the manga, it also reignited my frustration on just how poorly written the conclusion of Quintuplets went about.

Whether or not you're a fan of x quintuplet, I think that when we all first got into this franchise we were all under the impression that Uesugi was to choose one of the five sisters as a bride. This was how the story was marketed, and was the ultimate vision and mystery that captivated us and drove the very core of this show. What if I were to tell you that by the end of the movie, not only does not all of the quints get equal amounts of romantic progression with the male lead, but also it became a scenario where it was only realistically four choices? My problem isn't so much the final choice Uesugi went with, but the how illogical and unreasonable the choice was because it showed very little supporting evidence as to how we got there. There needed to be more time, but it was clear the author was desperate to wrap things up which also made the film follow suit. Overall, I can't say this film does the manga any better, but just that it finally puts a visual adaptation conclusion on one of the most popular wholesome harem series.

First, let me tell you my current situation. I haven't seen any of the manga in this work. Only the animation is watching the 1st and 2nd seasons. I got to know the ending of the work in the movie.

My first impression and summary.
"There is a lot of information and content. It's a long movie as an animation, but it's not boring. After the movie, I got a bond and happiness. However, looking at MAL and Japanese reviews, I realized that I needed to consider a lot."

- Why was it a movie, not an anime series?
A movie announced at the end of the second anime ... series. I was a little disappointed. It's a shame that the continuation of the story is represented elsewhere (eg OVA ... Original Video Animation).
Should this story be done in an anime series or in a movie? What do you think?
I was happy to see story in the movie. I was able to see the facial expressions of the characters on a big screen. Watching the movie for two hours made me impressed (but I will cover it later). However, to tell the truth, I think I wanted to see it in the anime series.

- A story about choosing a partner.
From five sisters, he chose one partner. I was surprised at this. I didn't want the multi-story to exist in this story. The story is interesting because he treats the five sisters equally. I hoped the story would end without anyone choosing. Surprised. It's like love simulation game software.
However, No problem for me. Finally, I am happy to see the end story that ends in happiness.

- Why she is chosen and dissatisfaction of people reading manga.
I saw the dissatisfaction of people reading manga. The chief complaint does not express the reason for choosing a partner. And people who haven't read manga also complain that they don't understand why they chose a partner.
I watched a movie and saw a lot of reviews. Certainly, as many reviewers say, I don't think I can find a reason to decide.

- What are you looking for in this story?
I can't explain why the main character chose her. However, when viewed comprehensively, when considered as a story, I understand the story he chooses for her. I am happy with this result and this story. Maybe it's because the story ends happily in the end. After the engagement, he seems to finds out who the girl was as a child and who was the bell on the hot spring trip. I want to end this story with the word romantic.
Did you want to watch a love competition anime? Or did you want to see the bonds of your sisters?

To summarize at the end.
I wanted to see it in the anime series. I wanted people who read the manga to be satisfied. After all, I love this story, so instead of ending it with a two-hour movie, it's more anime seasons. I wanted to see this story in animation for a longer time.
But I'm also happy with the movie. I hope 5 + 1 family will have a happy life.

5-toubun no Hanayome Movie (2022)

‘Become someone necessary’ is my favourite line from Uesugi.

The film was a great way to finish off this series, happened in an expected but unexpected way. I think more of a shoutout is needed for the quintuplet’s dad who works long hours to support the daughters he loves. A true dad.

The film is wide-reaching and covers every hole I could think of in the show. I like how you get a good clean ending, see the final school festival and have some conflict resolution. I do wonder how the other sisters will cope going forward with finding partners. Since ... we know some other guys liked some of the other girls it would be nice to know who they ended up with if anyone at all.

Artistically speaking it looks superb, the show is very much top-tier. It does not need to be insane since it is not action or something that needs extreme detail. It does however cover even the smallest details well enough that you can make it out easily. The eyes are a big thing in this show done so well.

The sound is great, the music brings out emotion when it is needed and gives a real sense of what happens. The OST is fitting too, a real hard throbbed.

The characters have all developed and moved on. It is great to see a show come to an end like this and reach a climax that doesn’t leave you endlessly wondering. Happy to see the little sister continue her development even at the end. I do still wonder about further in their futures but equally, it is enough.

The ultimate thing for this show is that we have a show that could have been an awkward harem that is a coming-of-age epic. You get to see the trials and tribulations of what people go through. I am sure some of us wish we had the levels of what this show gives off. It took me a while to get around to this, only because I kind of didn’t want it to end.

10/10. An absolute pleasure to watch and feel.

Quintessential Quintuplets is for casual enjoyers, nothing special. If you seek for something profound and amazing, don't bother.

The first season was pretty bad, not as bad as other harems. MC is not innocent or a wimp, but is rather smart and serious. Fanservice is not so completely stupid and the girls don't automatically fall in love. But then again, this is a harem and later they did in a somewhat realistic way. Nothing too special.

Second season was actually quite fun. There are some really good moments. Moments that ... are romantic and lovely. Maybe not super realistic but not so ridiculous that you feel like a shut-in and make you feel a little emotion. These moments are worth your time and carry the entire show.

Lastly, the movie. This is really cutting corners. It would have been a lot better if they were to make another season or two before the movie. It felt very rushed and is obvious they skipped quite a bit from the source material. But it worked it somewhat because there was almost no fanservice in the movie. The only fanservice that appeared was the one minute beach scene at the beginning with almost no dialogue. The movie was quite focused on the romance and relationship aspect. That in opinion was very good but the pacing really brings this down. Everything feels sudden or developed too quickly. Besides that, the movie was fun. It had some good moments, all the girls had their time to shine and had a good conclusion.

Overall, QQ is alright but quite fun. It's simple and casual. Nothing special but definitely better than other harems. The best part is of course rooting for your girl of choice. There is not a lot to say about QQ but it was good watch considering it was a harem.

As someone who's been invested in the series from the start, I was a bit nervous about how they'd wrap everything up, but oh man, did they deliver.

First off, I'm so glad Fuutarou chose the right girl in the end (no spoilers, I promise!). She's the one who truly understood him from the very beginning, and supported him every step of the way. I won't lie, I was a bit worried they'd pull a fast one on us and go for a different girl, but nope, the writers knew what they were doing.

What really got me, though, was the way the movie tied everything together. ... All the character arcs, the plot threads, the themes... it all came together in a beautiful, heartwarming way. I was laughing and crying and cheering all at once - my family thought I was crazy, but I didn't care.

The animation was stunning, the music was perfect, and the voice acting... oh man, the voice acting was sublime. I felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing everything they were going through.

What really resonated with me, though, was the movie's message about love, family, and finding your true path. It's not just a rom-com - it's a thoughtful, genuine portrayal of what it means to be human.

I'm so glad I got to experience this series, and this movie, from start to finish.

This movie moved me in every way, in it we see the perspective of the characters of the series and find answers to many questions that appeared in the series.

Story: The story was extremely well done, it was very easy to understand and I had no problems at all. But the way it was explained and conveyed really moved my heart of stone after 2 years.
Characters: All the girls started to be much more rational and their decisions were shocking, I really didn't expect to see that. However, the biggest change was in Miku, to be honest, I'll never forget the shock I got when ... I saw her in action. However, I honestly expect the girls to remain just as childish no matter what happens.
Animation: The animation really hasn't changed at all compared to the other seasons, but to be honest I can't fault it, it was so well done and they animated all the scenes from the heart.
Soundtrack: Nothing to comment on, this studio really knew what to do. I think if it wasn't for all these sounds and the actors' performance, this movie wouldn't have hit me as hard.

My personal opinion and rating of the film.
Well I can say that after this movie I will be extremely happy even if it didn't end the way I expected, the movie filled me with happiness and I hope you will feel the same if you watch it. My rating for this movie will be 10 because I explained above, so I won't hold you back.

This anime really surprised me. At first I didn't think it was anything special. I have seen a lot of romance anime, so I thought I could predict who he ended up marrying. I was sooooo wrong! This anime was different from a lot of harem romance anime. A lot of the time, the guy doesn't end up with anyone and its up to interpretation. So I really really appreciate that he ends up with one of them. I really thought he was gonna end up with one of them the whole time, but nope! He ends up with the most unexpected one! So great! ... The only other time an anime has caught me off guard was Shuffle. Cus he too ended up with the most unexpected one. Just wow.... I definitely recommend this one! It's not a waste of time. This movie was absolutely beautiful. <3

Okay of course i'm joking, you see I put the recommended tag, I actually thinks it's a great anime movie, I would recommend you to watch it, controversial I know. To start off, I wanna mention that this is the first movie that I saw in a movie theater (very epic), so that might be a big factor that might make me biased, but idk I don't think so. The other important part is that between my watching of season 2 and the movie, I actually read ... the ORIGINAL SOURCE, the manga. Throughout this review, I will reference my experience with the manga compared to the finale of this series, you don't necessarily need to have read the manga to understand my review, I'm just exposing the movie compared to the best and definitive option imo if you like this series :3 (Anyone who liked the 2 seasons and the movie should read that imo it's peak content), but nonetheless there is a reason for this movie to exist, it's not a bad experience to watch either. If you're an anime only person, that's fair, and this movie is a great conclusion. Let's get started with my review :

To start of (with a big chunk of this review lmao), the story is fine, it's one of the best things from Quintessential Quintuplets, atleast for me. It's well developed, take his time (but isn't a fucking cash grab with 300 chapters of nothing happening, even tho I'm stupid and also like those), have great characters that are all interesting and unique. Oh yeah those characters, it's like the reason why everyone in the review hates this. I wanna say that [REDACTED], who Futarou decided to pick to marry isn't my favourite character, AND THAT'S FINE. She's still a great choice that is really logical with all of the story and characters development that happened, I think it's a great choice and also probably in close second in my list. Of course you can have favourite, even I do, but objectively, there isn't any bad one. All of the quintuplets, the five of them, are all unique in their own way, it's very well done and they all get interesting story in the whole series. It's normal to like something subjectively, but trashing everyone and The Quintessential Quintuplets as a whole is very childish. The story has something in my heart, it's so nice, it's a breath of fresh air because the sisters all develop their own emotions and feelings in all of their unique ways, which makes up a pretty stupid and funny mix at the end, Japan really does master the Harem genre well, and I love it. To comeback to the story of this movie, it's pretty important right ? Well adapting a manga in an anime form is not a easy task, and I would say that previous seasons also suffered from this in certain ways. Season 1 adapted 30ish chapters, season 2 adapted 50ish chapters (while skipping a bit more content, is that something that Bibury Animation Studios are pros at ? We might be onto something), that sounds great, until you hear that the whole manga is 122 chapters long and the movie, the finale, ONLY ADAPTED THE LAST 20 CHAPTERS, THEY SKIPPED SO MANY FUCKING CONTENT THAT IS THE WHOLE REASON WHY EVERYONE IS HATING ON THE SISTER THAT BECOMES A BRIDE. It's probably the worst critic that I have about this movie, and while I am kinda sad that this was the treatment this movie got, thanks Bibury, I really wanna point out how anime only watchers are, for the most part, happy with this (I even met a real anime only fan in the wild in the movie theather and he said it was great, UNBELIEVABLE). What I mean by this is that since it's the same studio that made season 2, and that they kinda skipped content and the story was probably worse than the original source, I expected it to be still great, but have the same treatment story wise for the movie, and I was unexpectedly wrong. Except of course the elephant in the room of the skips chapters which were insanely important for further characters development which makes you appreciate this series even more and is very important for the big reveal and around 3 instances where there was something that was unexplained in the movie, the adaptation of all of the chapters that got animated was immaculate, I almost 100% mark my words. It was exactly the same story that I loved so much that was conveyed in a masterful manner without any skip. It's interesting, it's content packed, it's emotive and gives screen times to all Quintessentials for their last push into Futarou's heart. I don't really wanna spoil anything, but when I say it's good and that the adaptation was great* (*without the caveat of things mentioned prior*) and probably even more, and for this whole reason, I would recommend this movie, as a pretty great adaptation of the ending of this masterpiece.

To continue, the visual are also fine. While still being a fucking boom in manga sales for most of it's living time, the anime didn't get a top tier studio, instead they got something like Bibury Animation Studios, which don't get me wrong, it's not a shit choice either. They are actually pretty good at making still frames that looks beautiful, it's only about movement in which they kinda fall behind. In the case of this movie, it's a bit better than season 2 probably, with very beautiful shots that can really be appreciated and complements the very strong emotions of this arc. As for the movement, LUCKY FOR BIBURY, it's a fucking school life harem after all, there won't be any fight scene and you mostly don't need a lot of movement, so this problematic is rarely seen in this movie, only a few times when a character is running for example. I also wanna mention how the final arc drawings in the manga are absolute banger and cannot even be compared to how it looks in the anime, which was already great by default. So basically, the visuals were great for this studio and a normal anime standard, with pretty beautiful shits and goofy movement at times lmao.

To conclude, this shit is good. It has his flaws, but totally not the one that people are bitching about, that part is totally fine and even absolutely great, it's definitely a must watch for people who watched the two seasons prior, it ends the story with a beautiful arc that's very well done. If you liked this series so much, maybe watching the manga to know the full story will interest you, it's even better, even funnier and even more beautiful. There is also something special that makes you appreciate the story as a whole when you know who Futarou picked, that's really when you see why, something that probably a few person did. Anyway i'm kinda sad that it's over, but the path along the way was really something special.

(SPOILERS WILL BE MARKED!) Finally, it comes to an end, I loved this series as a whole, and I have become strongly attached to fictional characters once again. I think that the movie does a good job of ending the show for what its worth and the situation it was put in but if it weren't for the previous two seasons, the score would be drastically lower than an 8/10 because of some major issues which the movie could not control, but was hindered by regardless. Let's start with the fact that we should have received a season 3. It seems that much of the ... manga material was cut off in favor of the easy way out in a movie, a full season would have received greater attention and given far better closure to the show and possibly saved the show from some of the backlash which ill talk ab later on in the spoilers section. I can't help but feel that they had given up on the success of a third season because of such backlash as well and that they took the easy way out to end the series with a movie rather than dedicate time to the third season, oh well, it sucks but whatever. I definitely hold movies to an stricter standard given that they take less time but I feel that the pacing was efficient and the overall layout made sense even though things were cut out of the manga. Without spoiling, I must also say for those of you who haven't watched the movie yet and/or haven't gotten the ending spoiled, the movie is still a good watch and worth watching and even though it was disappointing for me and other quintuplets fans, the reasoning is more so from issues stemming from production all the way back to the manga. What's disappointing more so has to do with the plot and you should still go watch the film, even if you know the ending. If you are finished here, thanks for reading, I appreciate your time and this is nashy out (SPOILERS from here on) Now to those who don't care ab spoilers/alr seen the movie, this is more gonna be a rant ab the movie. Starting with Yotsuba's victory, there are some glaring issues here. I'm not super crazily obsessed with one girl and their victory but it's clear that the manga was rushed into making a decision and Yotsuba's victory was intended to prevent people from getting bad that the popular girls, like nino and miku lost. Yotsuba was developed as this character who intended for all the sisters to get along without pursuing futaro's love, so that no one would be mad when she eventually won. The problem with this, apart from the glaring lack of development that Yotsuba and Futaro's relationship gets, is that Futaro also gets woven into the issue. After watching the movie, I can't help but feel that Futaro chose Yotsuba out of pity and fear of breaking ties with the other sisters. Like I said, this really wasn't a movie issue but I still think a third season could have developed the relationship better and created a more well-received medium given that the manga was already spoiled at the time the movie came out for a lot of people. Yotsuba would have garnered more fans because she and futaro would have gotten more one-on-one screen time and the show would have been popular rather than simply throwing in a "gotcha" with an hour left in the movie. Additionally, I really hate takebayashi and the biological father's introductions. I feel like it really brought the movie's quality down and it was redundant from the start. They barely got any screen time for such significant plot developments. It screws with the viewer because the plot twist is essentially useless and could have been left out in the case of the biological father in particular. Takebayashi (the dark haired childhood friend) wasn't as bad as a whole father left out of two seasons brought up in a movie but it was aggravating because the viewers see a huge shift in the plot near the end of the series and it pissed me off as a viewer, as well as others I'm sure, because it came so late. Neither event was even properly developed so like whats the point. They should have just saved time and removed those scenes for other scenes that were cut. I'm also not a fan of school festivals in general but I liked the formatting of the festival from each sister's point of view, I thought that was nice. All in all, I loved this series but it could have been so much more given that harem's are typically garbage and this is easily one of my favorite romance anime but issues stemming back from a rushed ending in the manga hindered the quality of the movie in particular because the first two seasons are still great as was the manga chapters those seasons adapted (not to mention we probably would have had a third season with better reviews of the manga). Overall, the movie really couldn't have done much better in terms of adapting the manga, a third season would have been better, and this is still a really good romance series in my opinion, especially for a harem, but one that surely disappointed in the end as it could have been something that was unanimously agreed upon by everyone as one of the best romance animes, REALLY long review here and if you read it all, your patience is extremely appreciated. There is no mention or context clues in this post about who wins, so feel free to read without squinting your eyes

Funnily enough, I find a lot of the bad reviews on here are dissatisfied with how the movie did not go the way they thought it would or should based upon the previous 2 seasons of the anime. I will be judging the movie mainly ... based upon the content within it, not outside material from the series. For stuff like that you can look at reviews of the previous two seasons.

With that said, the story didn’t end the way I’d hoped it would (my girl didn’t win) but I still loved how well it wrapped up a beautiful plot and gave everyone a chance to shine. The plot focuses mainly on a 3 day period during the last school festival the quintuplets and Fuutarou will have together before finishing high school. Given the group is coming to the end of their time together, especially as tutor and students, there is pressure to determine and act upon the feelings that have been building up since the quintuplets met Fuutarou. The movie gives good screen time and solid character development to each of the 5 girls, giving each one their own arc during the festival. And oh my god does their father (Nakano) get the character development you would hope for throughout the film.

The movies’s art style and quality is exactly the same as season 2 of the anime, and the music quality is also pretty much the same.

Now here’s some good news and bad news as this is likely the last video content the series will receive.

Good news: If you have yet to watch the movie and are rooting for one girl to marry Fuutarou by the end of it, that is what happens and it is a sugary sweet ending where everyone is happy.

Bad news: Mathematically your girl only has a 20% chance to win, and there is no indication or way to tell who is going to win up until the very moment it happens, even with everything that has happened since the very start of the series. There is all the heartbreak you would expect on the losers end of things, and let me tell you from experience that watching each of them cope with the results can be depressing, especially if they were who you were rooting for.

Overall, the girl who did win showed any doubters she may have had that she deserved to be the one to marry Fuutarou, and in all honesty, although I won’t elaborate on this so nothing gets spoiled, it was very refreshing to see it go a route that you would not expect a romance anime to go in their pick for the winning girl :)

This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever watched. Not even taking into account the actual story or plot, this movie loses many points due to it being SUPER poor cinematically, to the point where it is actually uncinematic. The amount of fade to black cuts are actually insane, leaving for a poor telling of an otherwise very dramatic and compelling story. As a manga reader, I watched in pain and agony as seeming every single transition was a fade to black cut. That alone speaks volumes to how this movie was produced, as it clearly was not a anime/movie ... adaptation, rather it was a simple retelling of chapters. Even jump cuts could have been a better choice than fading to black every single time. It just feels so awkward and and messy, feeling like they truly tried to cram everything in this movie, which is interesting due to the choice that they made turning this into a movie rather than a seasonal anime adaptation.

My second gripe is the music. Wow the music. It is truly atrocious. I don't know if it was just on my end but the music was almost to the same volume as the dialogue. Personally I watch with subtitles, but I very much love to hear the voice actor's voices and try to feel the emotions they try to portray. That is very hard when the music is constantly in the way. Truly constantly, as for the majority of the film's runtime there will be very basic background music playing, and as most of the film revolves around the relationships and conversations between the Quintuplets and Fuutarou, it was mighty annoying to have music be in the way of the whole shebang.

Lastly, the actual story. The story was adequate enough to serve as a proper ending to the tale of the quintuplets, but as a normal viewer it would definitely be sort of unsatisfying due to the condensation of chapters and scenes for the movie. I definitely feel that if it were adapted into a seasonal anime instead, it would serve as a more fluid and proper ending, but regardless I still enjoyed the story, and if you are a fan of this series then I think you will find the ending to be satisfying and find ways to be happy for the bride and her loving sisters.
