Synopsis

The crown of England has been hotly contested throughout history, and in the Middle Ages, a series of great civil wars became known as the War of the Roses. Claiming a right to the throne, the Duke of York seeks to unseat King Henry VI and his heir in order to become king himself.

On a dark day filled with many ill omens, the Duke gains a son: Richard Plantagenet, third of his name. Neither male nor female, but instead possessing characteristics of both sexes, Richard III is immediately reviled by his mother. Her hatred defines his childhood, leading to a deep disgust toward his own body and an adverse reaction to being called a demon.

Richard grows up troubled by visions of England's former foe, Joan of Arc, who taunts that he will bring ruin to all who know him. He believes that he can attain salvation by helping his father achieve his destiny of becoming the king. However, cursed by the expectations of both his mother and Joan, will Richard's actions instead drag his family down into darkness?

I have been waiting for so long for this adaptation and it was one of my most waited animes this season, yet all my hope was gone at this point. I waited till the fourth episode to judge this adaptation, but there is no hope for it to get better. I don't know how or what happened during the director's head when he thought of how to adapt off this beautiful manga, but all I can say is that It's truly one of the worst adaptations that I have ever seen in my life. I don't even know where to begin starting from the unnecessary read more

The adaptation sucks so please give the manga a chance. Only a little ounce of justice was given to the source material because while it is well-written, stunning, and complex, the anime adaptation fails in comparison. The characters were very complicated and deep but in the anime, most of them just come off as unlikeable. My main issue was the pacing though—if you watch the anime without any prior idea from the manga, I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy it because some important scenes and storybuilding are missing. You'd be confused. I still plan to finish the series though (because I love the manga so much read more

We've all heard of the Wars of the Roses. Despite occurring more than half a millennium ago across the ocean with no modern consequence, every high school curriculum gets in your face about it with Shakespeare's eight-part work depicting two different Richards and three different Henrys. This anime cuts to the chase and adapts Henry VI Part 3 and Richard III.

The biggest change early on, and one that I think is awesome, is that Richard is now intersex. Anime has always been diverse (kind of), and that diversity has improved these past several years. There are plenty of characters with different sexualities, but a lot read more

Manga is one of my favourite, it's so good. So when I heard that they will make an anime adaptation of it I was so happy.
So I watch 1st episode and I was like - why? Like what is the point of all of this? They just destroy the source material.
If I would not read the manga I would have no idea whats going on.
I was thinking that maybe they will repait it somehow so I decided to watch episode 2 and episode 3. I could not finish the 3rd episode and I am so angry and so disappointed by that. I just read more
