Kurenai no Buta (Porco Rosso)

After a curse turned him into a pig, World War I ace Marco Pagot becomes Porco Rosso, a mysterious bounty hunter who takes down sky pirates in the Adriatic Sea. He whiles away his days on a secluded island, rarely leaving other than to collect bounties or to visit the beautiful Gina, a songstress and owner of the Hotel Adriano.

One day, while traveling to fix his faulty engine, Porco Rosso is gunned down by a young American hotshot named Donald Curtis. Thrilled at the possibility of fame, Donald boldly declares that the flying pig is dead. Not wanting to disappoint Gina, Porco Rosso flees to the famous Piccolo S.P.A. airplane company and takes out a massive loan in order to repair and improve his fighter plane. There, he is surprised to find that the chief engineer of Piccolo S.P.A. is the 17-year-old Fio Piccolo, who hungers for a chance to prove herself. With Fio's improvements, Porco Rosso prepares to challenge Donald officially and regain his honor.

Kurenai no Buta (or Porco Rosso) is a very pleasant film to watch, with a simple and fun story and a production that borders on perfection.
Practically everything related to the technical terms of this film is very good, be it the magnificent visual direction, the impeccable and very characteristic animation, the beautiful takes, the beautiful scenery, the very beautiful character design, and a good representation of society and the situation at the time. in which the film takes place (Post World War I) despite having been well softened in history, like, the film takes place ... in Mussolini's fascist Italy and during the 1929 crisis, however, it is not explored much, due to the weight of these themes, and the feature film seeks to be lighter and more relaxed.
Talking about the writing, it is very simple, has charismatic characters, a fun and intriguing story, however, it is very superficial. The protagonist must be the only genuinely well-written character, since all the others are very caricatured or are supported only by charisma. The script is very generic and poorly used, but it's nothing serious, since the film seeks to be a very fun basic, and it succeeds.
All in all, it's a very fun film to watch and very well produced, it's worth a look if you're looking for something lighter to relax.

Kurenai no Buta (ou Porco Rosso) é um filme muito gostosinho de se assistir, com uma história simples e divertida e uma produção que beira a perfeição.
Praticamente tudo relacionado aos termos técnicos desse filme é muito bom, seja a direção visual magnifica, a animação impecável e bem característica, os takes lindíssimos,os belos cenários, o caracter design muito bonito, e uma boa representação da sociedade e da situação da época em que o filme se passa (Pós primeira guerra mundial) apesar de ter sido bem suavizado na história, tipo, o filme se passa na Itália fascista de Mussolini e durante a crise de 1929, porém, não é muito explorado, devido ao peso desses temas, e o longa-metragem busca ser mais leve e descontraído.
Falando sobre a escrita, ela é bem simples, tem personagens carismáticos, uma história divertida e intrigante, entretanto, ela é bem superficial. O protagonista deve ser o único personagem genuinamente bem escrito, visto que todos os outros são bem caricatos ou se sustentam apenas por carisma. O roteiro é bem genérico e mal aproveitado, mas não é nada grave, visto que o filme busca ser um básico bem divertido, e ele consegue.
Enfim, é um filme muito divertido de se assistir e muito bem produzido, vale a pena dar uma olhada se você busca algo mais leve para relaxar.

"Something something fascism"

I can't help but notice that a lot of people who love this anime tend to quote a certain line about fascism that's uttered in it. I get the strange feeling that some people conflate current real world events with historical events, and use media aimed at children to re-confirm their beliefs. That's cringe.

art: All the women look the same. As in they all have the same face. This is a problem shared by all Miyazaki films and not just this one. At least Porco Rosso has a unique face. The art isn't very detailed, and the characters have only 1 level of shading (base color + a light shadow). So it's quite a simplistic art design, so I expected good animation.

Animation: I didn't go through this movie frame by frame but the airplane movements were pretty smooth. The choppiness was not noticeable except for a few scenes. However I didn't notice any particularly fluid scenes either, ...
