Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!

It's been 2 years since 3D Kanojo: Real Girl happened. Why does that matter you ask? well you see, 3D Kanojo was really irritating back when it first aired, depicting certain social topics in a very infuriating way to the point of being very disrespectful: From a bad depiction of a socially akward person to manipulative romance, terrible "friends" and parents, stupid misunderstandings and what not. That anime tried to tell a tale of a socially awkward person and failed at it horribly, what does this have to do with Uzaki-chan wa asobitai? well, they're pretty similar, not just in the way the characters ... are portrayed, but in the way that both are very irritating, and out of those two, Uzaki-chan gets the cherry on the top for being the most infuriating piece of media I've watched in my life. Up to this day I don't get why I do this to myself, I guess it's a masochist sport, but sometimes I feel like I have to contribute with a different view of something that is often overlooked, that way maybe I can help others decide whether or not something is worth their time talking about the things they might dislike.

This anime starts like your usual harmless Slice of Life RomCom, it starts from Uzaki's PoV as she greets her senpai Sakurai, cheering for a successful year in college. Time goes on and Uzaki notices that Sakurai spends his time alone, doing the things he likes in the space everyone respects. Out of curiosity, she then, decides to try to enter in Sakurai's life the next year by teasing him. On paper there's nothing wrong with this, it's like Teasing Master Takagi-san, but with college students and lewd stuff, however, the way this anime attempts to create a romcom is what went wrong. This anime manipulates the viewer into thinking that the way Uzaki treats Sakurai is cute, which, is not the case. Let's view it in Sakurai's shoes instead, Sakurai is minding his own business, enjoying life the way he wants, and then, suddenly, a girl comes in and starts bothering him and starts asking questions like "why are you always alone? do you not have friends or anything", then, proceeds to mock him due to the way he spends his time and proceeds to be a bitch about it. Is it really that hard to understand when people wants AND enjoys to be by themselves? No, instead, This show crams Uzaki into Sakurai's life like if he was a freak of nature which personality should be fixed, forcing their relationship. Still not convinced? let's twist the story this way, let's say that Uzaki is a boy, and Sakurai is the girl. What would your reaction be if Uzaki were the boy teasing the girl instead? Gross and creepy right? Most people ALWAYS side with the girl and of course, people will sympathize more with Uzaki cuz she's a girl and it's cute when girls want to ̶H̶a̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ stalk a guy, no matter if the guy wants her or not. See the problem now? Uzaki is an annoying girl, that is clingy and pushy towards a boy that just want to mind his own business, is it too hard to respect that? I know, Sakurai's dumb ass could have just rejected her, he does show his annoyance, but he does nothing with it, which, is one of the things that bothered me the most and shouldn't be ignored. This anime also spams you with exhaustive "jokes" with Uzaki's awful smug face like: "HAHAHAHA, OMG YOU'RE SUCH A LONER, COME ON, YOU'VE GOTTA LIVE SEMPAI" "OMG THAT'S SO VERY LONER OF YOU, TO BE EXPECTED OF YOU SEMPAI" Yadda yadda yadda.

The way this anime depicts introverts as freaks of nature that should be forced to "live" the way everyone else "lives" their life just because introverts are simply not "living it" is extremely irritating. As an introvert myself, I love to spend time alone and that's not a bad thing, being overwhelmed with attention is not good, it's stressful. Also, enjoying time alone doesn't mean that introverts don't like to interact with others, in fact, I do like it when I hang out with my friends, but they understand when I don't want to hang out. People shouldn't be afraid of saying "no" to others, those who respect your decision are true friends, those who don't aren't worth your time. Now, I understand that the young Japanese population is very shy and need an incentive to open themselves to others, but there's a difference between giving a small push and straight up force your way into their lives. I highly doubt ANYONE would like it if someone they're not interested in, forces their way in and overwhelms their life by being extremely annoying, pushy and clingy, the last thing they'll achieve is to be a part of their lives. This anime forces their relationship a lot, everyone ships them as if they were meant to be with each other, Sakurai's "friends" constantly mock him for "not taking the initiative" and teases him into thinking he's an idiot for not going a step further with Uzaki. This honestly pisses me off to immeasurable amounts.

Ecchi on this anime is dumb, repetitive, exhausting and irritating. Most of the jokes consists of shaming Sakurai in public with very suggestive scenes and dialogues. To create drama IN PUBLIC of things that can be misunderstood is uncalled for, Sakurai's dignity as a citizen could have been compromised just as Tsutsui from 3D Kanojo, but since everything is a joke on this anime it doesn't even matter and Sakurai has no other choice but to accept it. Misunderstandings on romance anime can be fun depending on the context and the characters, but this anime goes beyond stupidity with them, we're talking about freaking adults here, not horny highschool students, how does Uzaki's mom think that Sakurai wants to grope her breasts without considering the fact that she has a cat on her lap? Not just that, Uzaki's breasts are big enough to satisfy him, I could have taken it if Uzaki's breast were medium size, but no, they had to create a dumb misunderstanding that shouldn't have happened if these characters had common sense, but they don't. This anime is unfunny and most of the jokes are exhausted to the point of being unbearable, if someone is able to endure "OMG HAHAHA YOU'RE SUCH A LONER SEMPAI" more than 10 times, good for them, but this is a bit too much, the more I hear her screechy voice with that awful smug face, the more unbearable it gets.

Animation quality is not great, it serves it purpose just fine, but nothing memorable, there was this fireworks episode that could have been really endearing if Uzaki weren't such an annoying girl, but all the emotional weight is thrown to the gutter thanks to her. Talking about her, the sound department is deplorable, Uzaki's VA did a great job at being exceedingly annoying, most of the times the characters are screaming and that is not nice to anyone's ears, not a single music was memorable, the OP is annoying and the ED... is just there I guess.

I'm tired of how rom/coms are portrayed nowadays.

I'm tired of screechy, clingy, annoying anime girls.

I'm tired of stalker girls seen as cute in anime media.

I'm tired of forced anime relationships with 0 chemistry.

I'm tired of stupid misunderstandings.

I'm tired of illogical ecchi scenes

I'm tired of anime portrayal of "friends"

When will be the day where we see a new Rom/Com that isn't just a stupid waifu wars or waifu pandering garbage with no substance at all?

Look at the poster for this anime. You see that thing? That sad excuse of a character design? Those giant fucking eyes with that stupid fucking hair with that obviously pandering skin fang? Those stupidly massive tits that take up half of her body mass?

Just one look at this anime version of a skin gremlin is enough to tell you about her entire personality. Just as she looks like a monster, she acts like a monster. Constantly annoying people that are just minding their own business. Constantly trying to grab someone's attention. Constantly laughing in your face at your expense. Constantly ... trying to make this about herself without giving any care to anyone around her. She isn't just a character. She is the embodiment of all things evil in the world.

Well, maybe it's not that bad. After all, she seems to only acknowledge one person in this entire anime. Except that he sucks too. If I were to direct your attention to the poster, you would see that this is a guy you can find in any other anime. Completely boring and unremarkable character design. Except this time he yells. And gets angry. Do you like angry people? I don't. But this guy's anger stems from Uzaki herself. Which is completely and utterly understandable. If only he cut ties with her for the rest of his life. But no. This motherfucker has the gall to fall in love with that thing (even if he doesn't know it in typical rom-com fashion).

Do you see the psychological manipulation this girl is doing? After constantly harassing this man who is just trying to mind his own business she ropes him into romantically tense moments. There is no chemistry here. They don't seem genuinely happy being with each other. One harasses another. The other can only get angry but for some reason lets this shit happen over and over again.

I'm being overly dramatic here. It's not something to get that angry about. It's worse. It's boring. It's the worst combination of being both anger-inducing and being the same sleep-inducing rom-com shit every episode. This anime does nothing new for the genre. Misunderstandings that get dragged on and on for the entire episode. Side characters whose entire personality is wanting the main two to get together for fun (which might work if I actually wanted these two to get together). Giant tits that keep accidentally being grabbed. Characters that comment on how big the fucking tits are. Did I mention how fucking big these tiddies are? Maybe it wouldn't be a problem if there was good fanservice here, but believe me I was flaccid watching this entire season.

The art here is pretty bad. For some reason there is very little contrast here. A lot of the scenes I see are dominated by gray and brown colors. And as far as the music department is concerned, I can't recall a single track. But the opening annoys the shit out of me.

[TLDR] Actually. Watch the opening of this anime. Because that embodies this entire show. If for whatever reason you like the opening or Uzaki's character design, you'd probably like this anime. But for someone who wanted to curb-stomp the main character since the beginning, this was the first anime I've given a 1/10.

I’d like to consider myself an observer rather than an active participant in the pernicious social media discourse that’ll orbit a show like this on principle. People fascinate me, truly, because in the midst of what has been the most challenging and bizarre year in our contemporary human history, we can still find the mental vacancy to compartmentalize all of that bullshit and draw our ire towards the REAL issues...the Tid. Or more specifically, the 2D Tid, you know, like the kind you can’t feel? But I guess to properly enjoy a show like “Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!”, you need A LOT of mental vacancy. I’m ... not going to pay much heed to any of the facile rhetoric lobbed towards this anime, because quite frankly, I don’t give a shit one way or the other. Unless a show is deliberately trying to ram a narrative down my esophagus, it takes a lot for me to roll up my sleeves and polish my ivory sword, even more so if that show is a fucking cartoon.

Uzaki-chan is one of those rare instances where I was already fairly well-acquainted with the source material and author before having watched its adaptation. While half of the Uzaki stanbase at large was drying on their parents’ mattresses, I was already hip to this shit (another notch on my anime hipster belt). I have to hand it to Take (the mangaka) though, the man’s a genius. Whether it’s rabid affection or vehement disgust, Uzaki’s viral marketing potential speaks for itself. This obstreperous oblong drove stakes through my eardrums and burned herself into my corneas well before her anime was announced. That’s due in part to Take’s distinct...idiosyncrasies as an artist.

Take made a name for himself as a decently popular doujin artist before making the eventual transition to serialization. I follow quite a number of independent artists myself because more often than not, independent artists don’t have to worry about time crunches and have far more freedom to work at a pace that will produce the absolute best result. That said, I can’t say Take’s particularities really measure up to the best of them. He’s not exactly punching under his weight, he has his niche, clearly, and I can respect that. I mean, who else can we turn to when we’re craving malformed prenatal pagan ritual eldritch moeblobs like Uzaki? I mean look at this snaggle-toothed, bobble-headed, big-eyed, monstrosity of a character design. She looks like a jack-o-lantern carved by Ray Charles with that gaping half-moon watermelon mouth and skin-sheath covering her fang. What does she even need that thing for? Will she get tetanus if that thing scrapes against her bottom lip?

As a virile young 20-something like myself, I have to admit, breasts are indeed tantalizing. There’s nothing wrong with watching this show purely for the proverbial “eye-candy” if ecchi anime do it for you, but what good is enjoying a piece of eye-candy if you’re just sucking on it with the wrapper still on? The boobs are a gimmick, clearly, but they don’t really do all that much with them. They’re just kind of there to throw darts at as an easy punchline when it behooves the script to do so. My point being, if you’re going to draw a character like this in a transparent attempt to exploit her design, why pair down the fanservice? We’re living in an era where “Ishuzoku Reviewers” masterfully broke every single rule that an ecchi should and could. When I watch a show like Uzaki-chan proudly whore their mascot out on the corner with 7 layers of thick sweaters and winter boots on the half-hearted promise of the occasional flaccid skirt lift, I can’t help but feel cheated. Uzaki-chan is about as sexy as a stubbed toe (and twice as bulbous).

You could make the argument that Uzaki as well as the whole of the Uzaki clan at large are “just drawn that way”, but that’s woeful ignorance. This is a series spearheaded by someone who cut their teeth drawing “paizuri” comics for a living. Uzaki’s “Sugoi Dekai” t-shirt is this generation’s “Mega Milk” except not nearly as fun, if you know what I mean by that. This anime lacks the sex-appeal to get away with designing a character like this for any good reason other than to just bounce your eyes from any given corner of the screen like a game of ping-pong.

It’s nigh impossible to have a discussion about this anime that doesn’t ultimately circle back to this little shit’s design. It’s fundamentally baked into the spine that supports the bosom of this show’s trademark. But why dwell on this for as long as I have? Because there’d be fuck-all to talk about otherwise.

Uzaki is just one half of a brilliant Manzai duo, and believe it or not, her partner in crime, one Shinichi Sakurai, almost annoys me as much as his...heh...“titular” co-lead. Shinichi is such a transparent case of pandering wish-fulfillment that it’s impossible to buy him as the role he wishes to inhabit. Through no fault of his own (because of his “mean face”), he’s a loner but he just so happens to be conventionally attractive in every conceivable way. He’s tall, muscular, young, and has sharp eyes which puts him in the top 5% of all knuckle-draggers roaming the land and planting their seeds. He’s such a failure of a loner that his only real problem in life is that he’s drowning in tits at any given hour of the day, oh woe is him. The mean-eyed gag is used so sparingly that it makes it even harder to believe that this man has much difficulty with ANYTHING because of his face.

Uzaki-chan’s endgame as a story (besides the boilerplate slice of life hijinks) is to have Uzaki facilitate Shinichi’s social competency. There is absolutely nothing wrong with living a solitary lifestyle if that’s your preference, but Uzaki-chan has absolutely no idea how to broach this topic in a clever or didactic way. It’s perfectly content with taking a flippantly dismissive stance against people who choose to do so. I don’t know about you, but if I were a character like Shinichi being pestered by some manic pixie dream goblin, that would make me even MORE of a recluse. Uzaki-chan reads to me as an unrefined amateurish work conceived by someone who knows how to sell their manga but with only a tenuous grasp of what to actually do with it.

Anything that gives this show a sense of identity is effectively dismantled by and cherry-picked from other properties that rock it better. Why watch this show for the T&A if there are any number of functionally better cartoons to get your rocks off to? Why watch this show for the character dynamic when you can watch or read Takagi-san or Nagatoro-san that do far more interesting things than just “BAHAHAHAHAHAH SENPAI!!!” ? Why watch this show for the high-pitched squealing and sleep-paralysis gremlins when Keeping Up With the Kardashians is 19 seasons deep, dog?

Suffice to say, anime is perhaps the most renewable resource on the planet. There’s a school of thought not just among anime fans but with people who regularly consume media whose core tenet is to defend mediocrity because originality is overrated and doesn’t always pay off so we may as well just accept recycled tried and true formulas as long as they are competently executed. “Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!” isn’t just mediocre, it’s AGGRESSIVELY mediocre. This show isn’t bad enough to knock a few back with a group of friends and enjoy with tempered irony. But it’s not good enough to recommend in any capacity. We all know why people bother with giving this show the time of day, it’s in the title of the damn thing, but hey, I’m not one to point at and laugh at one’s proclivities (as vexing as this one in particular may be). But come on guys, you can do SO much better.

Your time on this earth is finite my friends, don’t waste it on shit like this just to prove how “red-pilled” you are, nobody’s impressed. I do it so you don’t have to.

"Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!" is one of the most offensive anime I have seen. And by that I don't mean offensive jokes, or gore, or something like that. What I mean is that the show has no respect for its audience. It knows the bare minimum required for its target audience to eat it up, so it does that, and nothing else. There was next to no effort put into this show.

Let's get the Twitter drama out of the way. I do not like Uzaki's design. Not because it's "problematic", but because I just hate characters with massive boobs. But that's just personal preference.

The ... first thing you might try to say to me is "It's a slice of life comedy! It doesn't have to have deep, complex characters or a riveting plot. It just has to be funny!" And I don't disagree with you. However, the comedy in this show is so lazy, that I'm allowed to look at and critique the other aspects of this show as well. Now what do I mean by lazy? I mean that the jokes present in Uzaki are a compilation of the most common and overused jokes in these types of slice of life romcom shows. They have the indirect kiss (person a takes bite or sip out of something then offers to person b, person b thinks about how it is indirect kiss and gets embarrassed), misunderstandings (person a talks about something, person b thinks they are talking about something sexual, hilarity ensues), and even the ecchi signatures such as girl spilling fluid over herself so you can see boobs, or guy falling onto girl, touching her boobs in the process. There is not a single joke in this show that I couldn't find in 20 other romcom slice of life anime. There is zero effort made to come up with unique jokes, instead it copies jokes done a thousand times.

Now that I have explained why the comedy falls flat on its stupid face, allow me to discuss the other aspects of this abomination.

Story:
It's a slice of life

Characters:
Our male MC, Sakurai, is about as close to a plank of wood that you can get. His most defining features are he has mean looking eyes (never seen that before, *cough* Toradora *cough*), he's a loner, he's athletic, and he likes cats. His entire character is an introduction statement you'd give on the first day of school. Now let's talk about the star of the show: Uzaki. She has big tits, uh, and she likes to pick on Sakurai? That's all that she really has to her. The other characters aren't even worth mentioning because they are just as flat if not more flat than these 2 main characters.

Art/Animation and Sound:
The art is about as generic as you can get. When you ask a person that doesn't watch anime what they think "anime" looks like, the style that they are imagining is probably exactly what this show looks like. The lighting is horrible. Basically every character in every scene has no shadows and no definition to their face. The soundtrack is forgettable, so I won't talk about it. The sound effects used are so bland, and reused multiple times. They even used the generic "record stop" sound effect. No passion was put into anything regarding art, animation, or sound.

*Spoiler for episode 11 ahead*
Before I finish this review, I want to talk about one last thing that really infuriated me. The ending of episode 11 offended me to no end. The fact that the show thinks that it deserves the viewers emotional investment, and for them to actually feel sad is an insult to the viewer. The show did absolutely nothing to deserve the reaction that they desire from the audience, yet they have the gall to do it anyway.

If you thought that "Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!" was funny, then good for you. But if you think this show is a well done piece of fiction, then you have been tricked and exploited.
This is my first review, so I would love to hear some feedback on what I did well and what I can do better. I know that this might seem like more of a rant than a review, but I hope I was able to get my points across regardless. Thank you for reading :)

An insanely derivative anime. Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai is dull even for the SoL genre.


The artistic style is neither awful or revolutionary, it's just fine. This anime sports an artistic style akin to any other generic SoL anime made after 2010.

The characters are boring. The only redeeming or memorable character is Uzaki herself, but that isn't saying much. The protag comes off as a one dimensional self-insert character.

The story itself is non-existent, it's a trope-filled SoL/RomCom like any other. Expect cliches like beach or shopping episodes.

And by far it's worst trait: it fails as a comedy. The "jokes" often end up being unintentionally ... embarrassing. I had to drop the show after Ep6, when the protag wearing a blinder accidentally gropes Uzaki and mistakes her breasts for a watermelon, a "joke" that was more-or-less already done in the first episode. It makes me question whether or not the studio has already run out of ideas for the show.

Anime like Uzaki-chan is shallow and devoid of any cultural significance, like many anime of it's kind, it exists only to sell overpriced merchandise. This show will be forgotten entirely in a few years time.

Uzaki-chan wants to hang out because she’s an irritating bitch who has no social graces. She doesn’t care if you want to be alone and live your life how you want to live it. No. If you aren’t living how she thinks you should be then she’s going to annoy and pester you until you submit. Some people may like that. I do not.

My two biggest complaints about this anime are Uzaki herself, and that stupid ugly-ass cat. Uzaki is just plan annoying and despisable. She is rude, loud, obnoxious, selfish, and irritating to a level that I’ve rarely seen. The anime tries to paint ... what she is doing as a way to help Sakurai but it becomes clear that she’s just a pest. She eats all the food Sakurai pays for, she never pays for anything herself, she forces Sakurai to spend time with her, she laughs at Sakurai, says mean spirited things to Sakurai (in a not very endearing way), and she YELLS CONSTANTLY. She’s a sore winner and a sore loser, making her insufferable regardless of how a competition (that she always instigates) turns out. And yes, we get it, she has giant tits. So funny omg I laughed so hard when they referenced her giant rack the 100th time. The show also likes to imply that she’s “innocent” but she’s just plain stupid, which she clearly gets from her mother who is as dull as a spoon.

What is the point of that ugly cat with the shocked expression constantly appearing? It’s like the show is trying to tell us how to feel or something? It’s also just plan ugly. I don’t want to look at it and it pops up far too often.

Another thing. Episode 10 was just a blatant advertisement to draw tourists to Tottori. It was so shameless and put a bad taste in my mouth. And that ending to episode 11? What a fucking joke. It was a poor attempt at a “emotional cliffhanger” and, as expected, Uzaki was just being a self-centered bitch again.

Also, I fucking HATE comedy stemmed from misunderstandings and/or miscommunication. I do not understand the appeal for comedy (or drama for that matter) like this at all. It’s more annoying than anything, and this show does it A LOT.

Side observation: The way people react to Sakurai’s appearance is ripped right out of Toradora, except not executed nearly as well. It feels very forced.

The only half way decent characters were Sakurai and Ami. Ami’s father was okay too but I wouldn’t say any of the characters were stellar.

4/10 The anime would have been much better without the TITular character.

I completely agree with Adol Zeppeli's review of this piece of upsetting garbage. Adol's well-written and thoughtout commentary is spot on.

Although I enjoy the slice of life genre, this story has no redeeming qualties. The mc , Hazaki, is the most annoying character ever! Its unknown why she thinks verbally assualting another person is a likeable trait. The glimpse of her high school life doesn't reflect her current personality. Kick this girl to the curb. She is mean and has little respect for Sakurai.
Going as far as getting a job at the same cafe just to get ... Sakurai worked up. This is not romance, its harassment!! Get a restraining order on this chick.

For me if the story doesn't work, the addition of T&A isn't going to change my mind. A bad story is a bad story.

At what point do we start demanding more out of anime. At what point do we not allow this domineering culture of redundancy and laziness. Uzaki Chan exemplifies what I hate most of modern-day anime. Yes, it wasn't meant to be more than stupid echii show but that's precisely why I'm appalled by it. Good art, hard work and talent should be recognized and praised, but that simply doesn't happen when hamfisted schlop like this gets tossed into our face and people eat it up cause, haha funny sex joke or haha uzaki quirky. The overbearing amounts of breast shots aren't comedy, they're stupid, lazy ... and unoriginal. First off the story. Incredibly unoriginal and almost not worth mentioning, its another contrived love angle that you already saw coming before you started watching. The art, is uninteresting, uzaki is not a well designed character and the main character is just the generic echii anime boy protagonist build.The sound design, the music is mediocre and at times the show somehow is badly edited (despite that having nothing to do with sound) The characters are the worst part, there's nothing to talk about wth them, its lazy and undeserving of attention or recognition. Enjoyment was a 3 cause I enjoyed how bad it continued to get. And Overall a 3 because I've seen much worse by comparison. In conclusion, do not accept this garbage. Demand more from the director, demand he design a unique world with unique and interestingly written characters. Your toradora's or even angel beats of the worst, shows with heart and a clearly executed idea. You want a cute love story? Watch 5 centimeters per second. Want dumb fun comedy? Watch konosuba.

TLDR: Pretty awful show with no character chemistry or plot progression, even for a lighthearted rom-com. Go watch it only if you wanna check out whatever Twitter's screaming about.

Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Or Uzaki Wants to Hang Out is one of those shows that gets carried by its main character, or in these types of anime, main girl. Shows like Himouto Umaru-Chan or WataMote revolve around their main girl, in this case Umaru and Tomoko respectively, so if you can’t stand the main character or can’t take her seriously, you probably won’t like the show.

And judging by my score, you can probably tell that I didn’t ... like Uzaki, the main carry for this show, as a character.

Let’s see how this anime breaks down.

Story: (2/10) Even for a slice of life anime which is usually defined by no action or story, the one main plot progression, the romance between Uzaki and Senpai didn’t feel natural at all even though the entire premise was that they fell for each other as “they were hanging out.” But no, it felt more as if Uzaki was just annoying Senpai and they just suddenly started blushing at one point without any noticeable progression. And when they introduced an interesting cliffhanger at one point, they completely ruined it within the first few minutes of the following episode and went back to the poor character interactions after that.

Character: (1/10): Alright, this is probably the worst part of the anime. Every character, including Uzaki, is one-dimensional. We have our main girl Uzaki, a girl that can be categorized by her large breasts and annoying high pitched anime voice to the point where it became painful to hear her say anything. We have the boring, generic tsundere-esque main male character where his two interesting traits are “mean eyes” and “six pack.” We also have our forgettable side characters: the grandpa owner of the cafe where his entire character is Uzaki/Senpai commentary, his daughter who acts as a love rival but then fades away into the abyss to become the replica of her father, and the blonde nice handsome guy that no one falls for apparently (haven’t seen that before) and also acts as relationship commentary and convenient situation fodder. But the worst, and I mean the worst character, the one I absolutely despised, was the cat. In random scenes, you see the same orange tabby cat that just has a silent shocked face whenever Uzaki and Senpai are together which I think was supposed to act as the audiences’ reactions and how we were supposed to react? But the cat didn’t come up as funny at all and made me groan everytime a still image of a shocked cat came up on screen. Maybe the characters would have been a 2 instead of a 1 if the cat was removed.

Art: (5/10) Nothing special going on for the art. I’m not going to act offended about Uzaki’s body proportions or whatever like on Twitter, but I am going to say that Uzaki is the epitome of a waifu design I don’t like (large breasts and short boyish hair.) But that fact doesn’t take away from Uzaki as a character or the general art of the story, just an opinion.

Sound: (5/10) Nothing special going on here either. The opening and endings were as generic as you can get for these types of animes, although they were kind of catchy. I would normally give that a 6, but the voice acting in this anime was pretty poor mostly because it felt like the actors were just saying lines instead of jumping off of each other (as I said before in characters.) The OST, if there was any, was very forgettable but didn’t ruin the show in general.

Enjoyment: (2/10) In terms of enjoyment, there was no enjoyment. Although this show was painfully boring, at least it wasn’t offensively bad, I guess.

But take my words with a grain of salt. Some people do like the show (for reasons that I still can’t comprehend), so you may too. Should you watch the show? Well, if you want to watch it because of the Twitter farce, go on right ahead. Should you watch it if you want a good, compelling romantic story between characters with good chemistry? You should go watch something else.

I generally rate high and give more importance to ease of reading and enjoyment while typing a review rather than using rocket science language to make an actually meaningless review sound superior.

When it comes to this type of anime, characters are the most important. But unfortunately they're terrible. The main guy is a loner, who's ofcourse ripped AF for no reason other than that he used to be in the swim team a couple of years ago (haha Phys ed go brrrr). He is pretty boring, but also the best character in the series which really says a lot about the rest of the cast. Uzaki is horrendous. It's like the creator didn't want to make average looking characters for an average anime, so he/she decided "oh well why not make the male mc ripped AF and give the female mc huge tits"? Unrealistic looking characters in a realistic setting is something I find very unsettling.

Enjoyment:
I'm someone who gives animation, music and enjoyment the most importance. For eg: I'm enjoying gohs that's currently airing even though it's plot is thinner than a wet tissue paper solely because its very enjoyable. Uzaki chan however, is a good *3/10*. Holy crap this this is boring AF. I don't think I've watched a single "comedy" anime that I've watched with an entirely straight face for 6 episodes straight. The punchline is usually echhi, which is something I enjoy being the degenerate that I am, but even in that uzaki chan does a crappy job. These are college students who blush over an indirect kiss. Smh. Also they used the same punch line twice now which is that the mc grabs uzaki's tit and says: "what's this, jellyfish?". (That's right, he says that both times). Also there's a cat with a stupid ass expression that appears wherever the MCs are. Which is... Supposed to be hilarious, I guess?

Tldr:
Absolutely no reason to watch this anime. It sucks at comedy, it sucks at romance and it sucks at ecchi. There are a lot of hentai out there that does all of these better. If you like the idea of the MC being teased by a cute girl, wait for nagatoro-san to come out which is a direct upgrade to this in terms of plot and characters (hopefully art and music too, tms entertainment pls).

I love college anime. It's such a surprisingly small niche, especially when you exclude sports anime. Among it are fantastic shows like Genshiken, Tatami Galaxy, Nodame Cantabile, as well as solid ones like Golden Time and HenSemi. So how does Uzaki-chan fit in among this crowd of classics? It doesn't. In fact Uzaki-chan is the anime equivalent of the annoying freshman who doesn't realize he's not in high school anymore. The main difference between a high school and university setting is the amount of maturity and depth that you can tap into, beyond the limits of high school. Uzaki-chan lacks any of this. There is ... absolutely nothing about Uzaki-chan that differentiates it from a high school anime besides the one episode with alcohol (which arguably is usually covered in high school anime anyways with the cliche "drunk off sweet sake" bit). So I'm going to try and cut Uzaki-chan some slack and compare it against generic high school SoL shows. When judged by these standards, do it fare any better?

No.

Uzaki-chan is the epitome of a flavor/meme of the month show, the likes of Umaru and the Hestia boob ribbon. Replace Uzaki with a more generic design and I guarantee nobody would have even heard of this show or known it was airing. She is the "teasing kouhai" trope (executed poorly) this time with BIG BADONKERS. She has no depth beyond that. Sakurai is epitome of the boring, "I just want to enjoy my peaceful life" protagonist. Ami and Itsuhiko play the token 3rd wheel dedicated to advancing the romantic plot (or what little exists of it). You could maybe, MAYBE still make a decent show with this cast if you played it up as a parody of hypergeneric romcom SoLs or something. But Uzaki-chan isn't a parody, it's literally just that. Hell, when Itsuhiko comes in and expresses an interest in speeding up the romantic progression from a snail's pace to something more reasonable, Ami literally channels the writer and tells him that would ruin in. They don't even try to hide it.

Well maybe the humor is at least somewhat well-executed? If only we could be so fortunate. Uzaki-chan as a show expects its viewers to be retarded. In fact it basically calls you an idiot. Explaining the joke is bad, laugh tracks are lazy. That stupid shocked cat and Ami's "eating" hand motions are the visual equivalent of a laugh track. "Haha that thing that just happened was supposed to be cute and/or a joke. Did you get it? Haha make sure to laugh cause that was a joke and I will not allow you to miss it." It's obnoxious.

The soundtrack is nothing special. The animation and art are either par for the course or lazy. There's a particular episode (which was likely sponsored by the Tottori Prefecture Tourism Board) in which at least half of the backgrounds are literally just IRL pictures from Tottori with a filter over them. The entire episode is basically just a tourism ad, it's truly bizarre.

Is Uzaki-chan worth watching? If you're starved for a terrible, turn-your-brain-off-and-waste-a-few-hours show, then maybe. There are still much better options out there, even when we exclude actual good shows. Otherwise no, you ought to skip this one. As long as you've seen a handful of fanart pics of Uzaki, you've already got the gist of the meme and the entire show.

Watching this show on a weekly basis was awful. I watched it out of obligation to myself as I don't like leaving shorter shows unfinished as well as the feeling that if I don't watch a show I dislike to completion then I didn't give it a full chance so shouldn't dismiss it. Yet I still watched it on a weekly basis.

Now why did I dislike it. The reason is that overall it was just bad. The quality of the look of the show was cheap looking and lacking in any colour. The characters I found to be bland or annoying, particularly Uzaki herself being ... unbelievably loathsome with the only enjoyable part of her being her tits and nothing else. The story went nowhere which was not really necessary for a slice of life show but I feel like there was the aim of making this partly a romance but no progress was made on that front making it feel like a huge waste of time that they even tried to add that subplot.

The thing I least liked about this show was the debate and defence of the show. This show was attacked because apparently Uzaki's proportions are unrealistic which I disagree with. The reason people should've been attacking this show because of it's low quality not because some anime girl's tits are too big otherwise most shows would be controversial.

I did not see enough hate for this show, only praise for "pissing off the libs and feminists" when I saw people shit on decent or pretty good shows like Kano Kari or just sleep on shows like Olympias Kyklos cos there were no thicc anime bitches.

The fact that this is getting a second season is infuriating. The money that they're pouring into another season of this shitty knock-off of Nagatoro could be directed towards manga that deserve an anime (Chainsaw Man, Komi San, Spy x Family) or anime that need another season (NGNL, Stone Ocean, Konosuba, etc) but instead we're getting this to feed some fucking losers' on the internets short stacked girl fetish.

So yeah, fuck this show.

once again I've known about the controversies surrounding this show, but I left that aside just thinking this would be a wholesome show with some lewdness. Sort of like an ecchi version of Takagi-san. Unfortunately what I got instead was an ecchi version of Umaru-chan. the title character is extremely annoying, and not in a funny way either. And yes, I get that that's the point as her own name TRANSLATES TO ANNOYING. However, if you have nothing else besides that or any other facets to the character, you just have an annoying flea of a character. Besides that ... there's nothing else to the show. It is extremely boring, and this is coming from someone who enjoys both slice of life and can enjoy laid back shows. Yuru Camp for example is a blast. Overall it's a 5 out of 10 at best further hurt by the annoying title character. In conclusion this is a show that only got attention in the first place due to the controversies, and will only receive future attention because she'll be used in porn.

I tend to watch the anime that twitter says don't watch and it brought me to goblin slayer and shield hero and even though neither were life changing I did enjoy them both quite a lot. As a result when twitter started saying anyone who like Uzaki chan is a pedo because she looks like a child I thought I would give it a go.

I came to the conclusion that they were wrong, Uzaki clearly looks like a 20 year old girl (her actual age in the show), I have met many girls that look her, far from unrealistic girls that look like her aren't ... even uncommon.

What they should have been saying is that anyone who likes Uzaki chan is a simp. Whilst I think on a base level there's nothing wrong with her trying to get her friend from school to leave his room more often and see the outside world, for a large portion of the anime her behaviour is straight up unacceptable.

I will admit that her helping him when he was sick and teaching him how to cook was decent on her part however moments like that are too few and far between to make up for all the stalking and harassing she does in innappropriate occassions. Especially the episode where they go into the forrest.

The supporting cast aren't much better, Uzaki's mother is the only 1 not trying to butt in their buisness. I feel like if it wasn't for the boomerang effect this anime wouldn't be rated as highly as it is.

Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! What can I say, I thought it was another one of the bunch, a romantic comedy pulling more to comedy with pure double-sense chites and a Fanservice of the least bit does not even show the breasts so much commotion for nothing for that if I want to see Fanservice I see another anime like Tsugumomo , Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?, To LOVE-Ru, Strike the Blood, Fuuka and the classic The Ping-Pong Club and Seikon no Qwaser.

History: the story is full of cliché that if I tell them it would be big spoilers, so that the plot is not forced, they ... put that they have known each other before and the only moment I liked was chapter 10 and its references, which is the most original thing that has to offer.

Design: nothing remarkable but everything is well cared for. Chapter 10 demonstrates that work, the only original character design is by Uzaki, the others are Clichés as they spend all the time in this type of anime, they focus only on the main girl and the rest is sloppy.

Characters: the only ones who have personalities that can draw your attention are the protagonists, the others are empty and flat personalities, they are only so that the plot does not look repetitive like Asai, Ami and Sakaki, Itsuhito the most wasted character was the brother of Uzaki who may have appeared two or three times could surely appear more in the second season but that will tell time.

The OP and ED: the OP is a 3 I would not listen to it again, nor the full version that I would recommend is the ED, which is a 5, a pleasant melody that you could listen to anywhere.

If you enjoy this anime I did not make an effort not to fall asleep and stay still in my seat I would not recommend it but I did not say that you did not see it because the best way to see if you like it or not is to see it yourself.

Uzaki-chan feels like another carbon copy attempt of a SoL RomCom where our leads have opposite personalities. Nowadays, it feels like these types of romance anime are mass produced.

My issue with Uzaki-Chan is that it feels so uninspired and brings nothing new to the table. The show reminds me of the romance version of Demon Slayer where the idea's and plot developments are all reused and recycled. However, Demon Slayer made the best possible version of the reused material with everything else being dialed up to an 11.

If you have watched shows like Nagatoro (maybe not S1 but ... S2), Sono bisque, and Komi, you've essentially already passively watched Uzaki-chan. There is nothing novel that this show will provide to you.
If you haven't watched The shows above, WATCH THEM INSTEAD ( in the order of Sono bisque, Komi, and Nagatoro). They are much better shows that provide actual character moments which is so needed for a SoL.

It is just a bad fanservice anime with bad/unlikable characters. I honestly don't see why anyone likes this. I am all for some fan service, but it has to be backed up with something or you are better off just going to hentai. And this show has nothing to back it up, a bad story, a character who I think has ZERO redeeming qualities, and nothing worthy of even a light chuckle. I have NO clue how this is getting any good reviews...

I see people talking about "Oh I love this show, she is so cute". I get her being cute is subjective, but with ... a personality that not even a mother could love I don't see how this can be the main appeal to the people writing these reviews.

I was only able to get 4 episiodes, and man, even that was a cringy struggle.

But seriously this anime is fucking horrible. It has safe, bland, wooden characters. and a non-existent story with no character progression/growth whatsoever. like holy shit, this so is so incredibly boring, like they know that they are allowed to make something entertaining right? the last few episodes are just a massive F.U to anyone who might even like this show for example on episode 11 the cliff hanger is Uzaki standing at Sakurai's door exclaiming "we can't hang out anymore" or whatever that cunt said. my thought when seeing this ... was "wow 11 episodes in we might actually see something happen that isn't just two dickheads doing nothing in this anime which is the worst example of a slice of life anime". only to receive a slap in the face. It turns out she was actually referring to her kindergarten homework needing to be done or some bullshit. Fuck this anime it's as if it's been sedated with drugs and isn't allowed to do anything interesting. I'm not just talking about the activities they do but also the characters and writing. theoretically, you can have greatly written characters do something boring but turn that on its head and have a funny scene that's fun to watch. I haven't read the manga which is the source material but I wonder if the manga is just as boring as this pile of shit that only became popular due to the world's smallest internet outrage that was blown out of proportion due to Reddit smooth brains.

Even if you like romance comedies, or softcore hentai, or elementary school girls with massive tits (hopefully you aren't that sus), this show will only give you a mere taste of what you want. On the surface, this show is palatable, but as you watch successive episodes, the lack of pacing, corny jokes, and stale dialogue will make you come to a stunning realizatiuon (which may sound like this): "Holy shit, I can't believe I just watched 10 episodes of this nonsense."

Pros:

The story itself has potential, and in comparison to other shows with similar plots, the MC is actually written to be ... more enjoyable because he's athletic and a functioning member of society (whereas other anime of the same type are usually captained by MC's that fall over when the wind picks up, or have such difficulty talking in social settings that they might need to be diagnosed with something).

I guess, before going into cons, I should remark about the voice actors. They're pretty good, and they bring the energy that the story desperately needs.

Cons:

The story does not live up to it's potential, because the humor misses too often, the plot doesn't develop enough, and it there are too many tropes relied on to make the anime feel like your even watching a new anime (it sometimes feels like uzaki is a haze; as though you've seen it before because so many of the situations are stale copies of other romance comedies). Unfortunately (or fortunately, for big boob lovers), the only thing that ever sticks out in a good way are uzakis boobs, and her mothers boobs.

The art is horribly average.

The pacing is ok but slow enough to show you how little effort was put into the series.

Conclusion:

Don't bother with this series. It feels like it has potential as you watch, yet any enjoyment will slowly wither away after a few episodes, and by the time you reach that point, you've already wasted your precious time on this planet. If you like huge boobs, just watch hentai.

To make things short, this anime is a complete waste of time. That's basically all I have to say about this pile of garbage.
This show is so lacking in content that I don't even have to mention all the bad things about it, since basically all about it is a negative aspect except for the animation and sound. It's way easier to name the few positive aspects it has.

As expected from an anime of this kind (garbage time wasters for thirsty beta males), the story is nonexistent, the setting is mundane, the main character has no personallity, the other characters are plain archetypes, the romantic ... aspect of it goes nowhere, the comedy is unfunny for anyone with a mental age over 15, and it sold because of the fanservice.

If you're like me and you want a good story or memorable characters, there are dozens of other anime to watch, don't waste your time with this one.

That's basically all I have to say about it. The only reason why I'm not giving it a 1/10 is because it's not particularly offensive or harmful. Otherwise, it has nothing of value in it, so I'll give it a 2/10 (and I'm being generous).
