This is a very simple cash grab movie made by studio bones, and that's fine. Its not like the movie is horrendous and anime studios really can use some money.
story: 2/10. boring, predictable.
art: 8/10. un-inspiring and low effort, especially for a movie. Then why 8/10? I'll explain later.
sound: 8/10. very good sfx and decent ending song. seiyuu performance is A tier as usual.
character: 3/10. Judging solely based on new characters. The movie could really use a better villain.
enjoyment: 8/10. So... how and why? Cause this is my hero academia. I knew what I was getting into and was still a bit disappointed, but I don't
...
feel like I wasted time watching it or anything, because there is one thick pillar of appeal in this movie:
YUTAKA NAKAMURA: Legendary animator, the greatest action animator of all time. We get around 10 minutes of his work in this movie and its nothing shy of a visual spectacle. Just those 10 minutes of high octane god-like sakuga is the reason I'm giving this movie a 7/10. All I can say is that I hope he and other senior sakuga animators are getting paid enough for their work.
if you wanna watch the movie, then definitely watch it. however, if you don't want to watch it, go through the basic plot and watch the climax fight. It's more than worth it.
Expected an OK narrative, received a poor one.
Expected fantastic sakuga, received the god-hand.

Tldr at the end.
First and foremost, this show is not a remake as you might already know by now. But it's apparently supposed to appeal to new viewers as well, and that's why I'll review this as a remake. If you wish to enjoy it to the fullest though, I recommend watching the original and it's sequel, although beware cause higurashi kai is unbearably boring after the first 2 arcs and is an overall bad anime, but this isn't about kai.
The positives: Fantastic first episode, better art and animation, much better sound design and better pacing compared to the OG. Also the OP and ED
...
are really nice.
Negatives: story and characters.
Story: writing this after the 8th episode and for now the story is mixed with events from both the first series and higurashi kai. Problem with this is that new viewers miss out on some points that others will understand which are quite important, like how did keichi survive in the first arc and such. The second arc which is arguably the best arc in the series when coupled with the arc that explains what happens in it was executed really poorly in gou. The events were changed quite a bit and the ending was anti climatic. If gou is unable to tie up the lose ends in a good way then my opinion of it won't change. Currently it's terrible and I have a good idea of what the mystery is, but that just confuses me as to why they would bother changing the events at all. Unless ofcourse the mystery element has more that what meets the eye, which I really do hope is the case.
Character: keichi is the worst mc in the history of anime. He's whiny, annoying and an overall brat. I know this sounds like 70% of male anime MCs, but keichi takes the cake as the worst one. Hell mirai nikki and akame ga kill have better MCs. Everything from the way he talks to the sound he makes when he has food is all annoying af. Moreover he's a complete loser too. Now, why is this "bad"? Firstly cause every time he's on screen I feel like ripping off my sternum and raping my ass with it, secondly cause he's supposed to be an "intelligent" character as you'll see later in the series, which really makes no sense whatsoever. If you expect him to ever change, then turn away. Keichi is awful and will always will be.
This ofcourse is not inherently bad as it's just a peeve that I have. What is bad is how they treated Rena's character.
Rena has some SERIOUS development in the second arc of the original anime. It really shows us that she's more than just a crazy bitch, to the point where we question whether she was even a crazy bitch in the first place. In gou however, Rena is basically non existent for the entirety of the second arc, which adds to this arc being even worse than it already is, which ofcourse in turn hurts the fact that this is supposed to be the best arc of the franchise.
Overall: I'm not enjoying this show much. My expectations are still really high cause I still hope that they can blow me away when they reveal the mystery, but if it's just going to be what I've predicted then I'm going to be really disappointed.
Tldr; an improvement over the original in the technical department, being animation and sound. But otherwise a bit of a letdown. Still to early to judge because, well, it is higurashi and it totally depends on what the mystery is and how the mystery is revealed. As an OG viewer, I would've been satisfied if it followed the events of the orignal anime 1 to 1, but now that the events have been altered, I hope that there's actually a good reason for it and that the ending will be good.

Just finished the movie. I will divide the review into individual components with Tldr at end.
Story: 10/10
Anime movies executing a particular arc of a comic is quite difficult and could ruin the experience. I can confidently say that the movie not only provides a perfect picture but does pretty much everything better. Bondrewd's entrance, the beautiful fight scenes, oh and I don't mean god of highschool fight scenes where they fight for no reason whatsoever. I was literally clutchiny guts hoping reg would win. If any media makes you care about it to this level, it's doing a good job. Warning: this movie is extremely
...
depressing. Up there with devilman crybaby and fate heaven's feel with one of the most depressing (good) anime I've seen.
Art: 9/10
Artstyle stays close to the source material. Art is honestly a downgrade compared to the tv series because some scenes have lesser polish and the background art, while amazing, didn't really reach the level of the tv series. But that all makes sense when things start moving. The animation is incredible, especially during the important scenes. There were little to no still frames and the background animation was fantastic. Even the most complex models were hand-drawn; there's literally no cg used except for lighting effects.
Sound: 10/10
Soundtrack: Kevin Penkin. Anything less than 10 would be an insult to humanity.
Sound effects are really well done to. Every sound makes sense, whether it's reg's launcher arm or arm cannon. Voice acting is just as good as any other A tier anime.
Character: 9/10
I didn't really like riko's development in this movie cause she's having everything done for her, but every other character is pretty good. With the limited time available in the movie they really made me attached to new characters to the point where it nearly moved me to tears. The one that particularly stands out is ofcourse one of the best modern antagonists: Bondrewd. His actions are, ofcourse I won't say justified, but they do make sense. He's not evil by nature, but evil by diminishing his morals for his research; the best written mad scientist in fiction imo (sorry okabe). Ofcourse, to the viewer he's scum and that's true. What makes us human is after all our morals.
Enjoyment: 10/10
What am I even supposed to say? It's a feast to the eyes, ears and the heart, especially the heart. I'll be thinking about this movie for days to come. The only times I felt uncomfortable was with the sexual jokes, I don't really like those but it works cause they really don't have actual sexual intent and the scenes adds to character. Wouldn't mind if those were gone though.
Tldr:
Watch this movie. If you haven't watched the original anime, then watch it and then watch this. WARNING: this is not for the faint hearted. I'm having so many mixed emotions right now that it's making me feel uncomfortable. But if you are not an overly sensitive bitch like me, give this a try because this is truly peak fiction. GOD I love anime.

I generally rate high and give more importance to ease of reading and enjoyment while typing a review rather than using rocket science language to make an actually meaningless review sound superior.
(Tldr at the end)
Story: 4/10
It's about a chick named uzaki who like to hang out with her senpai
Who's a loner. Not original at all, and this anime in particular is not even good at executing the plot.
Art: 5/10
Very mediocre. Nothing much to see here. Characters barely have movement and look lifeless, art is sometimes off model.
...
Sound: 5/10
Again, extremely mediocre. The score is very boring and the op+ed sound generic.
Character: 3/10
When it comes to this type of anime, characters are the most important. But unfortunately they're terrible. The main guy is a loner, who's ofcourse ripped AF for no reason other than that he used to be in the swim team a couple of years ago (haha Phys ed go brrrr). He is pretty boring, but also the best character in the series which really says a lot about the rest of the cast. Uzaki is horrendous. It's like the creator didn't want to make average looking characters for an average anime, so he/she decided "oh well why not make the male mc ripped AF and give the female mc huge tits"? Unrealistic looking characters in a realistic setting is something I find very unsettling.
Enjoyment:
I'm someone who gives animation, music and enjoyment the most importance. For eg: I'm enjoying gohs that's currently airing even though it's plot is thinner than a wet tissue paper solely because its very enjoyable. Uzaki chan however, is a good *3/10*. Holy crap this this is boring AF. I don't think I've watched a single "comedy" anime that I've watched with an entirely straight face for 6 episodes straight. The punchline is usually echhi, which is something I enjoy being the degenerate that I am, but even in that uzaki chan does a crappy job. These are college students who blush over an indirect kiss. Smh. Also they used the same punch line twice now which is that the mc grabs uzaki's tit and says: "what's this, jellyfish?". (That's right, he says that both times). Also there's a cat with a stupid ass expression that appears wherever the MCs are. Which is... Supposed to be hilarious, I guess?
Tldr:
Absolutely no reason to watch this anime. It sucks at comedy, it sucks at romance and it sucks at ecchi. There are a lot of hentai out there that does all of these better. If you like the idea of the MC being teased by a cute girl, wait for nagatoro-san to come out which is a direct upgrade to this in terms of plot and characters (hopefully art and music too, tms entertainment pls).

I generally rate high and give more importance to ease of reading and enjoyment while typing a review rather than using rocket science language to make an actually meaningless review sound superior.
I'd say most viewers in here were baited into watching this anime because of the promise shown by the well animated and directed fight scene in episode 2. I wanted this anime to be good, because it does multiple things well. The main fights, as I said, are animated quite well (don't get too excited there are only 3 of those), the plot is intriguing and the fan service is perfect for a
...
sad virgin like me. But unfortunately it does fall short in how it deals with plot twists in the story.
Art: 7/10. Nothing special. Art style is fairly "anime" and backgrounds are quite well done.
Animation: 6/10. The animation is very good during some of the fight scenes but overall it's plagued with still frames and just totally boring scenes. This is not an anime worth watching solely for the fight scenes.
Sound: 9/10. The music, oh yes. I love the bg score of gleipnir. It's definitely the best thing about this anime for me. The opening is pretty good and the ending is my favourite of the season. I love mili's voice. not giving it a 10 cause the sound effects were quite boring and uninspiring.
Character: 4/10. The character writing in gleipnir is just... Bad. It's just a total shit fest with a 24/7 horny cast of either extremely edgy people (I cannot possibly articulate as to how edgy they are) or just good for nothing weaklings. The characters feel very fake and detached from reality and it was hard to take any of them seriously. I'll explain further under "story".
Story: 6/10. All that potential, wasted. Ofcourse the story hasn't reached its conclusion yet so I can't fully judge it, but every twist and turn so far has been bad.
**Spoilers start here**
In episode 2, Clair mercilessly kills a girl. Now I'm not against killing characters or anything, but it's gotta have a reason and some use to the story, not just randomly killing some character out of nowhere without any meaning to his/her death (RIP neji. I won't forget what Kishimoto did to you). So the reason our main characters killed this girl was because she was after them. She was troubled because her newly gained powers were not what she wanted, so to turn herself back she chooses to steal coins from the mcs by, ofcourse, killing them. Clair did not want to die, so she interrogates this girl, snaps her leg and then kills her. Now, had they communicated, this whole situation could have been entirely avoided. "Yo, I got monster legs. I wanna turn back to normal. Gimme your coin". "Tell me how the coins work". "You put it in an abandoned vending machine and an alien grants your wish". "Ok then, we'll find a coin together". "Sure, I guess". Ofcourse this is not how it turned out. The characters had too much edge to communicate, monster legs chick died protecting information that the mcs found out easily in the later episodes from the alien himself, that is, FROM THE SOURCE OF THE INFORMATION. This is not the only death that I found to be poorly executed. In episode 12 when shuichi's past was being revealed, there are 2 character deaths that are done in such an absurdly poor fashion that I cant explain why it's bad without cringing on the inside.
"Oh I'm getting bullied. Guess I'll die".
B..but you have loving parents and multiple friends who care about yo.. Oh wait she's already dead.
"Alright girl. I had a crush on you when we were young, but now I THINK you're the reason the other girl disappeared. I don't need confirmation or anything, I'll just strangle you to death."
Honestly, no event in this series would have occured if the humans in it had THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE. A normal person does not go out of their way to murder another based on an assumption. That's just plain retarded.
**Spoilers end here**
Hopefully the shit show ends and the story picks up well after season one, cause it would truly be a waste of potential.
Enjoyment: 6/10. There's an arc in between with some bandits which is the most useless thing I've ever seen in my life. it's basically canon filler. You can entirely skip it and not notice any change to the overall story. Other than that, it's pretty ok I guess.
Overall: 4/10. No one has any reason to watch this show. Just watch the one good fight scene that everyone is talking about (it's only above average tbh) and then drop it. Do check out the soundtracks though. It's very good.

I generally rate high, and give more importance to ease of reading and enjoyment rather than using rocket science language to make an actually meaningless review sound superior. This is an anime review, for god's sake.
Hinamatsuri is one of my 10 favourite anime of all time and I wish it was more popular. The comedic timing is perfect and the gags are brilliant. I don't think I've enjoyed a comedy anime this much since the peak episodes of gintama. The only anime that I know of that can rival this one in comedy is love is war, but that anime is WAAAY more popular.
Story:
...
8/10. It's a good balance between being episodic and a continuous story. It's pretty much a reverse isekai with every point set up to be exaggerated for a comedic effect. Take nichijou for example. Except, I laughed more within 3 episodes of hinamatsuri than I did for the entirety of nichijou.
Art: 10/10. No comedy anime has any reason to look this good. The art style itself is normal, the art is well done, and the animation is super smooth with plenty of sakuga.
Sound: 8/10. There aren't any tracks that stand out, but its overall very well done. Also there are some gags in the op and ed where particular characters are removed accordingly with the story which is hilarious.
Characters: 10/10. oH! YoU rAtEd 10/10 FoR cHarCtErS eVeN tHoUgH tHeY aRe GenErIc aND hAvE nO deveLoPmenT? Seriously though. I love the characters in this anime. That's right, I even Love Hina. Her "done with life voice" is hilarious.
Enjoyment: 10/10. I absolutely loved every single episode of this show. I love good animation and a well executed comedic plot and this has both. I'd say it's at the same level as kaguya sama: love is war. It's easily superior to the likes of nichijou and asobi asobase and even better than konosuba.
Overall: 10/10.
Hinamatsuri is the kind of anime for which you rate 5/5 for every single episode and then give an overall rating of... 7/10? 8/10? Why? Is it solely because its a comedy anime? Honestly I enjoyed 12 episodes of this anime more than I enjoyed the boring 74 episodes of monster. Ofcourse, monster is a great anime superior to most others, and I'm in no way saying that this type of a comedy anime is better than monster. _or am I?_
Anywho, if this type of humor clicks with you then you'll thoroughly enjoy it. The comedy isnt as well thought out as that in love is war but it isn't as retarded and cringy as in asobi asobase either. It's perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
