2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu

It is a pretty decent volleyball anime with slight Yaoi vibes yet not yaoi which is good because Yaoi is not my cup of tea.... Anyhow I digress... The leads are a setter who struggled with being better then his teammates I guess similar to Kageyama from Haikyuu if you really wanted to make the comparison. Of course, he has the other lead his childhood friend to go through some ups and downs and together they make a strong duo backed by two experienced 3rd years and decent role players. One of the supporting members on a different team has ... a freind that got hurt freshman year and became manager instead, Subaru is trying to carry his friend to the center court yet he himself struggles with knee injuies that he is withholding from his friend and coach even though he won't be able to play for 2 years in college this leads to a decent plot point as he tries to carry his injured friend manager to the' center court' whilst having a injury looming in his face how would his teammates feel if they knew gasp.... Anyhow . thus leads up to the finale of the show. Meanwhile the main team is of course also aiming for center court for the 3rd years and also due to the Setter's Haijama's supreme competitivity and skill while the main charector the hitter just kinda tags along and gets better so he can play alongside Haijama. Overall, its a decent story, with decent execution. I would probably rate it lower but its volleyball and I like volleyball.

First volleyball anime watched! Keep in mind this is my first volleyball anime, so will do my best!

Story-wise, the one thing that stands out is the lesson that words are powerful as actions if not more, and this affects everyone. I would say the writers did a pretty good job of putting this theme as part of the story and characters development (part of obstacle), I'm glad they managed to overcome it. Adding the importance of belief, confidence as well as friendship and teamwork and you got yourself a great recipe for sports anime!

The characters themselves are pretty well written too, it was nice ... to see how our characters have their own quirks and personalities which make them who they are. It was great to see them shine in their own way, and I enjoyed the humor that came from their personalities as well. The art and animation when they play volleyball definitely has to be praised as well!

The big thing I have to praise is the opening, the ending was good but the opening definitely gets you pumped up and makes you wanna be in the mood to play any kinds of sports!

Overall, I would say give it a go to watch this anime!

In my opinion the musics are the best thing about this anime!
I think that they should develop more Yuno and his friendship with Haijima. Besides these 2 characters all of them should have a better development, since there are some that we don't know absolutelly nothing.
They should explain better Yuno's relationship with his cousins because I'm not sure if Yuno and his cousin are really close or not.
On top of all that the volleyball coach is a total mistery, but I really don't mind I kinda like it but they could drop some clues...
The animation has some flaws but since this isn't a ... big anime I think it's ok.
I think that the hole story has a big potential but it isn't explored.

I think anime centered more on human relationships than volleyball.

All characters are problematic, complex, and obsessive in themselves. The relationships of the characters are unstable, and where the story goes is extremely uncertain. It is not very clear what to focus on in the story, and I would say it has a heavy air rather than slow pace. It has a reactionary atmosphere, as if there is a constant tension in the anime. I don't understand why a love song was put for the opening, though it's a good song.

The illustrations are not very good, but they are watchable. The types of the characters are ... a bit weird and I think there are anatomically problems. Background drawings are good enough.

The accent of the characters seems a little strange to me because I'm not used to it. The problem is that some sounds do not fit properly and the music plays in very unnecessary places.

I also think that anime has a psychological and dramatic aspect. After all, the characters are between the ages of 14-17 and the sensitive psychology of the children of this age is well reflected.

It is not an anime that a very large audience will watch, but an anime that will find a small segment to fancy.

I just finished this season, and it was wonderful.

As a whole, this anime focuses much more on the characters than the sport. Yes it still has the hype sports bits, but right from the get-go you can tell its going to be more character oriented. I started watching originally because I fell in love with the hype that Haikyuu gave, but quickly realized that while its the same sports anime about the same sport, 2.43 gives a different perspective while telling a similar story.

Overall, the animation is a bit lacking compared to Haikyuu, but it makes up for this with a meatier story. While ... Haikyuu was about volleyball, 2.43 is about people.

I really enjoyed this anime, but I can see why some may be bored. The art is decent, the sound isn't anything special (it does its job well, but doesn't stand out), the story's good, the characters are really good; but for some reason, I really enjoyed it. I say give it a shot and if you don't like it even after that, then nothing I can do about that.

Giving a specific score to 2.43 Seiin is... a little complicated?
I'd give it a 5.5 to a 5 for objective value, but a 7 to an 8 for personal enjoyment.
Seiin fluctuates in quality, (not just animation wise), where there'll be a really good moment, although it'll be hidden in between a lackluster episode.
I've seen some people mention that Seiin was a show that was more about the drama than the volleyball, but over time, I found myself enjoying the matches the most. If you're here for the sport, I definitely think it's good enough watching just for that. It's fast pace is awesome and ... the animation quality picks up during the matches.
All of the characters are a bit forgettable, but I didn't mind that as I ended up enjoying the general atmosphere of the story the most anyway. It's strongest point was definitely that in all of their interactions, even just moments that amount to simple exchanges, (not even conversations) all the 2.43 characters felt like real people you could meet.
There aren't any extreme goofy scenes or characters with ultra wacky habits meant for you to get easily attached to them, and that was okay. It made it easy for one to imagine being one of the characters in the show.
Specifically with Kimichika, although he talks about volleyball WAY too much, I enjoyed seeing a character who's supposed to be flawed, behave in realistic, flawed ways. Whether his backstory was handled well is a different thing, but his relationship with his team in and out of itself was pretty satisfying to watch.
All in all, I wouldn't normally recommend this show at all. However, if you're in the mood for a shorter sports anime and you can overlook it's appearance and underdeveloped characters, just for the vibe, please go ahead. The opening and ending songs are both just too good lmao

This anime was unfortunate, but the opening was a bop and a half.

Right, so, if you're thinking, "Wow, how convenient that a volleyball anime came out just as the Haikyuu!! manga ended," don't be fooled. Because there's a lot about this anime that's just copy and paste from the Haikyuu!! plot and character work. I mean, obviously, I'm not implying any type of plagiarism, but what I am saying is that this anime had the opportunity to do something different with volleyball, and it didn't. Also, the animation was kind of not great, but I don't like saying that since I know it takes a ... lot of work to put together an anime. Let's talk positives first.

So, I did actually think the friendship between the two main characters was cute. It wasn't developed realistically, but the fact that they had an intimate friendship with one another was nice since intimacy within a friendship isn't something that gets touched on a lot in media. Also, despite the crappy way the story was laid out, it's still ultimately satisfying to watch a sports anime where the team gets better as you watch. It wasn't as good as it could've been, but it was almost involuntarily satisfying at the most important moments.

The beginning of this anime was sort of wack, but it was kind of nice because I thought, "Ah, this anime is going to take a sport we've seen done in a really intense way with Haikyuu!! and turn it into a more mundane, school club based thing." That thought was exciting because I enjoyed Ahiru no Sora after watching Kuroko no Basket. However, that's not really what happened. We start with Seiin having basically no volleyball team and, in twelve episodes, somehow end up with a team that looks like it's been playing together for years. The pacing was absolutely terrible. The development was nowhere to be found. The episodes would jump through three different, huge events in one 24 minute period without making the audience feel like any progression was happening. It was like the anime was saying that they suck in episode 3, but by episode 5, you've got to believe they're awesome.

None of the characters had any real development within the sport, though one did have character development outside of volleyball. It wasn't like you had a character say they wanted to get good at some aspect of volleyball, and then you proceeded to watch them do that; no, they just got generally better as a part of the team. That aspect of this anime was really annoying because I couldn't enjoy the progression of Seiin at all. Everything was hella rushed, and by the end, it felt like I had watched the prequel to whatever the real thing was supposed to be. I mean, maybe that's what this is; I haven't read the manga. However, if that's the case, it still did a poor job of it.

I don't know; this anime was fine. It wasn't hard to watch, by any means. There were still emotional parts or intense parts that were interesting, and the parts that didn't have to do with volleyball were often pretty good. I think, had the story stepped away from "we want to go to nationals" and focusing on how these characters could bond through the game, it would've been a really touching story. As it was, it fell flat in a lot of ways. I won't come back to it, but I'm not going to say you shouldn't watch it. If you don't care about meticulous development or just want to watch a sports anime at any cost, then this anime will do the trick for you. It just wasn't for me.

When I first saw the preview for the anime, I obviously couldn't help but get excited over another possible banging series. As I tuned into the first episode; I already started losing hope but not necessarily interest just yet as the art really captivated me not because it was "out of this world" or "amazing" but because of how "down to earth" it felt. The first episode really did hit hard though especially with the feels expressed through the opening and ending.

"2.43" (as the name suggests) is an anime about volleyball but unlike another popular series; it's not really about "volleyball" but what happens around ... it and the behind the scenes: a more psychological approach and thus a need to look further beyond to understand. The whole series shows a more relatable and realistic (for the most part) vibe which wasn't as off putting and kept me going despite the kind of rough and edgy start.
To put into perspective what I mean with this analogy; why "2.43" and not "2.40"?
I'll leave this to be interpreted in any way it can be.

Anyways without getting too philosophical about this as the anime was indeed lacking:
Story was "boring" because it didn't adhere to the more direct approach of the sports genre. Development was definitely slow and often times rushed with some unnecessary scenes. I never got to the point where I wanted to get involved and try to understand with any of the characters until the point where the "antagonist" (who seems just too perfect to be true) was introduced.
The drama happening between the team explored felt underwhelming to some extent with little to no development.
The series also gave minor BL vibes which wasn't bad but definitely different (not to the point of another series).
Personally, there was a lack of comedy or some possible romance (shown but not explored between Itoko and Yuni for instance) which gave too much of a serious mood along the story.

All in all, yes this is a sports anime but no you shouldn't expect anything like Haykyuu if put into comparison. The differences are as clear as night and day but as a volleyball player, I reckon you'd feel and understand both sides and still be able to enjoy this despite how dark it may seem.
I'd recommend it even though I wouldn't rate it too high myself just because it's something that did give feelings.

Finally, a decent anime about volleyball!
I dropped Haikyu!! after first season because it started to fell a lot like Kuroko (which means not a spolon but a fantasy shonen) and I had high hioes for 2.43
And it didn`t upset me! There are many details about tactics, mechanics and sport overall. this series is about volleyball, not about cheap teenage drama, and that`s why it`s good.

Yes, animation and ost are not that great but I came here to see anime about sport and I got it. Also, characters are enjoyable and their accent is adorable and fun to hear!

I recommend this anime to anyone who ... are tired of spokons that are 50% drama, 50% fantasy and 0% actual sport. I hope anime industry will move in this direction from now on (but I really doubt it).

Solid 7/10.
