Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 2

You know you're knee deep in anime when you see a story about 2 siblings, and can give it credit for not focusing on questionable incest relationship.

When I saw the first season of "Please Take My Brother Away", I was surprised for several reasons.. other than it not being a story about sisters that do lewd stuff to each others. The first one was the art. As this is a short anime which episodes are around 3 minutes in duration, the original art style and simplistic animation made it truly stand out.

The second was definitely the comedy as I made several friends watch the ... first season by simply showing them a scene about eating pizza. It was definitely the funniest eating scene that has ever been animated. Rumors say the restaurant owners still don't know where the last pizza slice went.

However, it's now time for the 2nd season, and its best part is already the fact that it exist. Thanks to Fanworks (the studio behind several other short comedy series such as Aggressive Retsuko and Honobono Log) for once again making sequels that needed to be made.

It starts with military training and gorilla warfare memes, followed by auctions and fund rising bidding wars, and more badass eating scenes which are even more over the top than before. All of these end up being a disaster because -you guessed it- no one took the brother away.

As a conclusions, in case some more abstract comedy is needed, head to your closest whatever and give the first season a try. As it's only around 30 minutes in length, it will be a fast one. Then come back to the perfectness that this second season is... or don't, I don't really care.

In all sense of the word, this Chinese made Jap-Sub short, with the 2nd season, is everything I love about the 1st season and rightfully so.

But...if you're here wondering why the quality this time around isn't as good as it should be, there are some caveats. Firstly, being a 2-cour, it's hardly as engaging as it should have been compared to the 1st season which was just 1-cour, it had just the right amount of stuff and fluff that it stands out and makes it mroe enjoyable. Secondly, the music, or rather the OP chosen. Being a Chinese myself, I don't despise Chinese music all ... that often (and even so when it comes to Chinese iterations of anime), but the song is mildly OK at best, and it kinda daunts on me that how I wished Brian The Sun would come back for another song. Granted, his 1st season OP was very memorable to me so much so (not just for My HeroAca fame) that his song is the first instantaneous reminder of this funny comedic short.

Regardless of my complaints, Fanworks really still delivers as per series such as the now-popular Aggressive Retsuko, Honobono Log and more. Really glad that they came back to do another season, and is a 2-cour which is twice the fun, twice the comedy and twice the hilarity!

A good series that while I prefer the 1st season over this, but by no means it slouches however. Still a good time to waste about 72 mins of your time binge-watching this to the end.

the second season started off not as strong as the first, with a bigger emphasis in the first few episodes on Shi Mao being violent. But after episode 12 things began to change. Shi Mao and her brother develop a better relationship and we see more of their friends. The plot begins to get so funny and relatable, and the characters are written like you'd expect normal kids to be, except a bit more clueless.
I enjoyed being introduced to the class rep and how sassy she was and seeing the kids be kids.

The music this time around was ... one thing I could never come around to liking, it just was annoying and the first season's OP was much better. Overall I'd rec this to anyone who wants a light hearted, funny and short anime to watch.

More shenanigans with the slothful older brother and proactive little sister...

Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 2 brings us the same antics from the first season but with at least a bit more development.

From the start, Wan Sui gets a bit more development or screentime but with the gist of him trying to be an ordinary guy when he's rich, you know that old trope, but add in his younger brother Wan Xing who's keeping track of him and is exactly what you'd think of the stuck up rich kid, yet because of Wan Sui's interactions with Shi Fen and Kai Xin he slowly but ... surely becomes like Wan Sui. Wan Sui also gets into a unrequited love to Shi Mao (something that was only teased and Wan Sui didn't care at the start of his introduction!, s he kinda became the mask that Shi Fen misunderstood). So for the most part Wan Sui gets the screentime he needed though he has the old cliche of the rich guy wanting to be normal, how he got chummy with Kai Xin and Shi Fen and the situation with his family was enough to at least flesh him out a bit.

The other "major arc" comes in where Class Rep MIGHT have a crush on Shi Fen and because this is Shi Fen...it comes out as expected but funny nonetheless and the Class Rep herself was an interesting addition to the cast and has a bit more screentime compared to Wan Xing by a mile.

Other than those arcs, it's the same old, but punchy funny scenarios that Shi Fen and Shi Mao gets into their daily lives, whether it be a scorching hot day, why Shi Fen and Kai Xin are idiots (no really), why Shi Fen is hated by girls and even back on track to the ever unrequited love of Shi Mao's crush to Kai Xin being ignored or even misunderstood to the extreme due to Shi Fen or by fate.

The animation done once again by Tencent Penguin Pictures was the same as the first season, with the crazy wacky facial expressions (some incorporating a blend of CGI quite well), the punchy action thanks to Shi Mao's strength and shows it off quite well and though the character designs are ok, you can recognize who's who very distinctly even in same uniforms. All in all, decent yet punchy funny animation from Tencent Penguin Pictures.

The voice cast is back with the addition of Class Rep and Wan Xing who were uncredited (?) and they all had good chemistry with the rest of the cast. Sora Amamiya was the same as ever but LA felt like due to Shi Mao's somewhat reduced screentime she didn't gets to go FULL ham but she still had her moments what with Shi Mao's preset demeanor, other than Sora Amamiya, Yuuichi Nakamura and Kensho Ono were still great as well with their craziness exuding from their cadences with Natsuki Hanae as Wan Sui following suit. Nonetheless great cast.

If you want more of the punchy, quick witted comedy of Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai!, then the second season is more of the same, maybe even more if you wanted more screentime from the main cast and heck even some of the newer additions blended nicely into the crazy cast of characters and for a sequel to Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! itself, though the comedy is practically the same, having some of the main cast go through arcs as it were and develop them even a little was a nice step up and flesh out the characters and make the plot outcome though sometimes predictable, the buildup and quick witted nature makes it worth it to watch it.

Want more quick sibling-based comedy in a good earnest way, then Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 2 will deliver...
