Is this even Pokemon?
Let's be serious for a moment here. I am watching Pokemon since the very first Season. Haven't missed any Movie/Specials/OVAs and had unimaginable fun while watching those seasons. XY was fairly good but not that great. Now watching XY&Z made me puke. It doesn't even has that 1 bit of old school Ash who was used to loosing and was funny at times. XY&Z is like totally a new concept and that's not bad but the main part is that there are probably lacks of fans who have turned old (27 or 30) and want some serious stuff instead of some lousy ... anime series which only has 2 things focused.

1. Ash-Greninja

2. Zygarde

That's it. There's no other plot or literally anything that entertains me. 28 Episodes have passed away (on the time of writing this review) and all I could see is Squishy,Squishy,Squishy,Filler,Filler,Filler,Ash-Greninja,Ash-Greninja,Ash-Greninja blah blah blah.
I hope Pokemon knows why they lost their older audience and figure out how to get them back in the next region (Alola).

Overview:

We all know the story of Pokemon. We all know the general premise and formula that happens EVERY season for the last 20 years. I am writing this review largely to posit a thesis: That Ash Ketchum is the biggest fucking LOSER in the history of anime! ever! period!


So what makes Ash such a loser? Is it simply the fact that he hasn't won a championship yet? Nope. The frustration and disappointment that fans have felt about Ash for 20 years is actually somewhat complex and multifaceted. I will be counting the ways that Ash is the greatest loser in anime history and defending my ... thesis point by point.

1.

Let's start with the most obvious point. He is 0-6 in the major regional championships. Pokemon battling is the main sport of the Pokemon world, so lets compare it to sports in our world. In the last 20 years while Pokemon has been airing, we have seen many improbable victories. They just NEVER happen with Ash Ketchum. Lets look at the last 365 days in sports!

The Cavs had never won in 40 years and were down 3-1 against the team with the greatest record in NBA history. Despite what all the sports analysts predicted, Cleveland won.

Leicester had sucked for 40+ years and were given 15,000 to 1 odds by British statisticians to win the English Football Cup last year. They won.

Serena Williams, who is basically the Saitama of Tennis, lost to an Italian player that 99 times out of a hundred even her distant rival Sharapova could beat blindfolded.

Portugal underwhelms at every World Cup and every Euro Cup. Everyone knew they were a 1 man team and when that 1 guy got injured, they stood ZERO chance against a vastly superior French team. It didn't matter. On that one day, someway, somehow, they pulled a victory out of their asses.

All of these losers found a way to win, but NEVER Ash Ketchum.

Ash is supposed to be great because he is friends with his Pokemon. BULLSHIT! What kind of friends would choose to backstab their best friend at a critical moment and lie down in order to foil their friend's life ambition?! Ash is the ONLY trainer whose Pokemon constantly disobey him and screw him over. This doesn't even happen to Team Rocket because they clearly have stronger bonds with their Pokemon (with the exception of James' Victreebel). It would be different if Cynthia, Lance, and the other champions gained their ranks through cruelty and ruthless training while Ash won a moral victory, but there is no evidence that Ash treats his Pokemon better than the strong trainers treat theirs.

Simply losing doesn't always make a character a "loser" in the eyes of the fans. It depends on HOW the character loses and what odds they were against. Let's look at fan favorite character Guts from Berserk. Guts is all time 1-4 against Griffith and hasn't managed to get anywhere close to getting revenge on that asshole in 25 years. Yet we STILL cheer Guts because he has grit and determination. Guts will keep fighting with every fiber in his being and if he ever loses a fight, it was because his opponent sold their soul and cheated to make the odds impossibly stacked against Guts. Ash loses because he's an incompetent moron who makes stupid mistakes that after 6 regions he shouldn't be making. He never learns from his mistakes and he never gets better. He finished final 4 in the 4th region and went right back to 8th place in the 5th region. Keep in mind these are tournaments just to challenge the Elite 4 and only after beating the Elite 4 of a region could Ash challenge the Champion. Ash in 6 regions hasn't even reached the Elite 4 because he does incomprehensibly stupid shit like releasing his best Pokemon, not focusing on his strongest Pokemon, using Pokemon that won't listen to him, and ignoring type advantages he should have learned on week 1.

The final reason that Ash is a loser is that battling is his life's dream and yet he sucks at it and doesn't take meaningful steps to get better. Let's look at another character in the Pokemon anime to contrast. Cynthia is an archaeologist first, a scientific researcher second, and a Pokemon battler a distant third. She is still champion of her region and is infinitely better than Ash will ever be. Were Cynthia to ever lose a battle and lose her position, she wouldn't care because she contributes to society in far more important ways. Watching Ash devote his entire life to something he sucks at makes for REALLY frustrating viewing.

Ash isn't even a lovable loser type of character. A lovable loser is the kind of person or team that KNOWS they suck and simply have fun without worrying about being the very best. To revisit the real life world of sports again, FIFA is hosting the next World Cup in Russia. The Russian soccer team is bad. I mean they are just SHIT. They will get knocked out in the group stage and possibly never score a single goal. They don't give a fuck! They will go out afterwards and party hard like they always do. Their fans don't expect them to win, so there is never any heartbreak when they lose. Their fans show up at games solely to get drunk, start brawls, set off fireworks, and throw fresh fruit at people. Their fans don't give a fuck if the team loses because they already KNOW they're going to lose! Ash actually thinks he's the best and is going to climb to the top. Longtime fans of the series think every year that THIS year is going to FINALLY be the year that Ash wins! Nope!

In conclusion:

If you are one of the many Pokemon fans that has been watching from the beginning and hoping that one day your childhood hero would win the big one...just stop. Stop watching right now! Ash Ketchum will win a Pokemon League only when the sun rises in the West and the mountains blow in the wind.

How to destroy a really good anime in a few steps:

1 - Make a good story with good characters and good animation.

2 - Hype people as much as you can episode by episode.

3 - Throw everything away in the most important moment.

Writers can eat my dick. They have lost much more than they can even think because people were hyped as fuck believing that this season could be THE season.

... But no, they decided to go full retard and make this piece of shit. Reached this point I can't even be sure if Serena is a girl.

BTW: Is a 7/10 anime, as I said, characters, sound, OST, plot and animation are really good and far better than the average Pokemon seasons, but they really fucked up everything in episode 38, so damn hard that I hope the writers get fired.

Pokemon XYZ is not the big thing, is the season that many "pokefans" consider as the best, the season when an analytical point of view, is the same as the rest of seasons! What do you mean by that? Okay, let's start the conference! Take notes, young boys!

Is it an adaptation of a video game? ✓
Is the main character restarted once more? ✓
Does the main character have the same goal for 20 seasons? ✓
The rocket team managed to capture a pikachu, after 900 chapters? ✓
Does the main character gain a pokemon league? ✓
Are combats won by the power of friendship? ✓
Is one a loli? ✓

See ... what I mean This show is full of clichés! In fact, it's a bit too cliché. But the thing is, it's not a bad show! One sure thing is that it can be very entertaining! The animation and art is incredibly high quality, the soundtrack is also good, and the waifus are adorable! Sure, it has no substance in terms of plot and what sea, but in reality, waifus are the only reason why you need to see this show.

History: 3
Hmmm, this is a story? The story of Pokemon XYZ is everywhere, and by that, I mean it is nowhere. It's basically the same story from past generations, with each episode dealing with a different pokemon or situation that has absolutely nothing to do with any of the other situations faced by the characters. Any explanation throughout the story is not detailed, the stakes are not high at all, the characters come and on a whim, and yes, it's basically a really messy story. But the latest episodes are interesting as it leaves some station and some characters are really very touching or funny! Either way, there is no show waiting for a story like Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter, No, do not do that.

Art: 8
It has a really high quality art and animation! In fact, the only reason it's not a 9 or 10 is because it gets lazy sometimes. The action scenes are like Madhouse, and the character designs are so damn colorful and crisp to the max! However, sometimes I feel that I am watching Naruto, many times the movements are limited and the image stays static for a minute and we no longer talk about copying from this, as it was Rassen shuriken or Naruto's Rassengan which is now A water attack and another version of the Lucario attack.

Release Date:
The soundtrack is also good, though there is nothing to note. Actually, children are the ones who shine in this series, and they definitely capture the "features". In general, the sound is great, nothing special, but always there.

Character: 3
Ash ketchum: we could consider him as one of the worst adventure character in the world of anime, never having a character development and no purpose at all, and not winning a trophy is not a goal, go, prune the example of One Piece, In Luffy's case, he may be an idiot and childish character, but Luffy will strive to progress and KEEP HIS PROGRESS FOREVER, whereas Ash Ketchum suffers from amnesia every season, being terribly contradictory and full of incoherence in fights.

Serena: It's the typical girl who wants to be something different to win medals, but it's the same base as it was with the dawn on the diamond and the pearl, or the may of hoeen, the only new thing she adds is that she is in love with the protagonist And confess his feelings At the end of the story, but remember that Ash Ketchum will not take it into account.

Citron: Not bad character but, not very important in history, basically could be another partner and not big change.

Pokemon xyz is one of those highs and lows of the anime. Due to its popularity in the middle, but not remarkable, some episodes are better than others! Although there were some that were a bit dull and a chore to sit in, there were some that were really entertaining or even feel heavy! Those good episodes overshadowed the bad guys for me, but not everyone will agree on that.

Generic, not original, shit story, but not a bad show in general! It's another one of those kind of entertainment> kind of quality shows, and I'm not a hater of those, but it's objective in that I do not recommend a story that does not arrive at all.

Pokemon xyz 4/10
This saga became one of the most overvalued of all the Pokemon anime.
Animation and music are good: (7/10)
But the story is the same as always: (1/10)

1._Ash reunites medals and returns to fight in the league.
2._the league, lose it again as always.
3._El evil team did not last 5 or 10 chapters and all sorted CRYING (much melodrama for an anime that promotes the game and in the end everything returns to normal).

Some techniques that were never seen in pokemon, were taken from other anime, for example naruto, such as shuriken or water pulse.
...
This saga is not compared with Pokemon Special (Fire Red & Left green) where there are deaths of characters, blood, falimiares meetings and characters mature.

I personally like this anime, but it is not as good as people make it out to be.

Story: The big problem with the story is that it's a string of setups with very underwhelming payoff. This series is absolutely incredible at building up hype for certain subjects and characters, but falls short when giving the climax and ending to those characters.

Art: Animation is flawless, with a few hiccups, but nothing major.

Sound: Music is fantastic. Special props to the Ash-Greninja theme in particular.

Character: To make it simple: Bonnie: Great, Clemont: Good, Serena: Good but generic and easy to predict, Ash: Boring and empty. Most ... of the side characters are meh, Alain is pretty good, and while they don't get a whole lot of screen-time, the Gym leaders are okay. But Team Rocket is just bad in this series. This is the most boring Team Rocket has ever been and that really hurts most of the episodes.

Enjoyment: I did like this series for it's animation and fights, along with a cool soundtrack that really pumped me up. It's great at hyping you up.

Overall: While the story and characters were fairly bland, and the ending being rather abysmal for many reasons other than the obvious, I enjoyed this series for its high quality animation and its great fights. It's a really style-over substance anime, which would work well for Pokemon if they didn't try and clumsily write in a story that ends fairly poorly. Overall, it's pretty good and I do recommend watching it if your into seeing Pokemon in some awesome fights.
