Fat-Ass. That is all you need to know for a 10/10. Some people will say that this is a waste of 57 sec. I say that it is a masterpiece that everyone needs to see this video. It doesn't even take up the same amount of time as a normal movie, but is more impactful than any Marvel movie.

Dude how can you make a 57 sec movie and make a fucking 5 page essay out of it. How can I make this any longer without spoilers. With spoilers I could make a 5 day Ted talk on why you need to see this, but I ... can't.

It is a short animation so I do recommend this, below this point you will have my review.


This short animation made by Kurosaka Keita has great animation and the art style mixes really well with the sound.

Even though it was short I was able to notice an impressive character development. You can clearly see that the MC had some issues and some mysterious events won't allow me to go deeper into this.

The story itself was rather mehh it wasn't bad but not good either. I could really enjoy some of the moments in this while others just wanted me to ... log out from life itself.

For the different kind of emotions that I was able to experience in such a short time I will give this a 7, if only the story was better it'd really be an amazing short animation!

Okay. So I'm just gonna put forward an instantaneous vivid imagination, to be honest, that went passed me in a flicker while watching this.

This is really a poorly rated one, I can see, with just two reviews.

Of course it's kinda hard to comprehend.
My interpretation is absolutely individual perception.

We all are acquainted with the term Dementia.
It's gradual, affects thinking and daily functioning, right ?

As I saw that lump of mass, I kinda visualized it as if brain thrashing inside cranium, craving escape, searching for escape as the degeneration slowly progresses. Finally, ... it gives in accepting what it is.
May be it got remedy or escape.
That's left to audience. :')

And well the art is really something. Within just a minute, it showed what it wanted to.

At first glance this short film may seem highly disturbing, disgusting, and confusing. However, it is actually a brilliant work of art should one take the time (and have the stomach) to analyze the deeper meaning behind this piece. I had hoped that the music would be a bit more creative. The sudden stops in the work were essential in their positioning of the various facial organs, demonstrating fine artistic choice. That being said, this anime is not recommended for all audiences. Many will indeed be unable to digest its contents and simply be left with a disturbing feeling. Thus, a word of caution: do ... not view unless you are willing to stomach its contents and willing to expand your mind to deeper horizons.

The art, animation and sound design were all rather good. The art is... Gutteral? Grissly? Messy? It's hard to put words to it precisely, but the art is far from the more standard, cleaner art styles preferred in the overall medium of animation and this is incredibly suitable for the feeling this piece is clearly trying to portray. The sound design lends further to this feeling of... Isolation, Despair and Anger the character featured appears to be feeling and displaying.

But I feel this piece lacked any real message or meaning. Perhaps it doesn't need one or it is simply very subtle, either way it's not ... particularly my preference when it comes to these "dementia" genre animations. I rather them have a more clear cut meaning or message to impart, like the dementia animation "Watashi no Kao" or in English "My Face," which appears to implicitly deal with issues of insecurity and self-identity.

Mochibei is highly metaphorical. It's so complex and deep that it's nigh on impossible for an average person to ever comprehend its meaning. Well, at first, I struggled to find any meaning behind it myself. But after watching it ten more times, I finally understood what this movie wanted to convey. Now, let me have the pleasure of enlightening you guys about this masterpiece.

The underlying story of Mochibei is of a depressed, isolated person riddled with misfortune, who considers his life to be meaningless and thinks the world is better off without him. But one day, something so good happens in his life that it ... changes him completely, and he starts feeling alive again. He finds out that life isn't as bad as he used to believe, and it has a lot of things to offer even to someone like him.

Such a beautiful story, isn't it? It moves me to tears every time I think about it. :')

The character development in Mochibei is fantastic. I don't know how they created such a well-developed and nuanced character within only a minute, but they did. The movie does such a good job at establishing him and then making the viewers sympathize with him through believable circumstances. He is perhaps one of the most realistic characters to ever exist. I'm so glad that he found happiness. :)

The animation is marvelous, especially when you consider the fact this was made in 2005. The design of the character is really unique and innovative. What I find more praiseworthy, though, is how accurately the movie manages to portray his various emotions. Every single scene is comprised of so much passion and enthusiasm—it's simply fascinating!

The music section of Mochibei is a bit lacking to be honest, but the voice acting makes up for it in my opinion. When the character shouted "Damn you!", "Useless!" and "Bastard!", I truly felt that. I honestly found myself shaken to the core.

There are many other things that could be said about Mochibei, but for now, I'm going to end my review here. I suggest that you watch the movie yourself, and be as open-minded as possible while watching it. If you don't understand everything after watching the first time, watch it twice. If you don't understand everything after watching the second time, watch it ten times. Keep watching it until you finally figure out its meaning—you will realize how awe-inspiring this movie is.

Throughout my time looking at Anime movies or any type of animation, once in a while I find something that actually makes me think a little too hard then it probably should. Muchibei is one of those shows. I think one of the reasons why this movie (that’s about 57 seconds long) is rated so poorly on many different anime sites is because people are looking at this as a movie and not as a art piece. So I’m going to take a page out of writing an artist critic instead of an actual movie review. Just a warning, what I’m going to touch base ... on here may be a bit of a trigger to people who deal with mental disorders or are easily bothered when talking about feelings.

There is no story, not really any characters to go through, and not even a background as to what we are watching. The only thing that I had to go on was that they have the Genre listed as ‘Dementia’ (on Myanimelist) which is a genre full of shows that you have to really think on in order to get their message. Shows like FLCL, Tenshi no Tamago (Angel’s Egg), and Revolutionary Girl Utena. It’s a psychological style which means there is some meaning behind it that has to deal with mental disorders, madness, insanity, or even loss of memory. I think what is great about this show is that it seems to be something different to anyone who watches it. Akidearest (an influencer on YouTube) talked about it being a representation of fighting on line with someone, wanting to reach out and strangle that person. It is understandable because her life is online. I on the other hand had a strange feeling like it was pointing out the thoughts and feelings I had whenever I start to have a panic attack or massive depression point. Calling myself a bastard for my mistakes, useless because I can’t do anything right… while pretty much banging my head into the wall just to try and feel something else other then the pain I felt inside… ya, sorry. It gets a bit dark talking about this stuff.

It being dark can also have a lot to do with the artwork that is used in the show. The black background might be a representation of the mind and how empty it could be while having said panic or depression except for the one rather ugly face staring way to close into your soul and yelling at you. The warped perspective that is the mind as it keeps hitting you until you pass out or find some way to deal with it.

There are many other ways you can take this for, Abuse both verbally or physically, dementia itself where you feel useless that you can’t remember something that is right in front of yourself, and slipping into a mad-like state where you just go completely crazy. What is awesome about this movie is that it’s so short and so open that it can speak to your own personal experiences. It doesn’t need a whole 3 hour long animated masterpiece to make you feel something; it just does it even if its just making you feel uncomfortable.

When trying to rate this, that’s the bigger trouble here. I feel like I just have to rate it a middle ground because it’s definitely not for everyone. Some people will find some sort of meaning behind it while others just would want to watch something messed up and not think to hard on it. I also would not go out of my way to go see it again but it was a interesting one time watch.

Mochibei is a short animation made in 2005 by Keita Kurosaka. It lasts about 57 seconds.

There is no narrative, or at least no narrative that can be immediately applied to the animation.

Yet again, the star here is the animation and style that Kurosaka exhibits. A strange human-esque figure almost slithers up from a black void and, whilst spouting profanity and insult laden dialogue, slams its face against the screen several times, distorting the face into frightening, distorted features. A moment of screaming ensues while the figure seems to bubble and twist and distort further. The figure eventually collapses after one final curse, revealing a blue ... sky, birds chirping, and what I believe are blades of grass falling.

Say what you will, the animation is gross, sickly, and ultimately perfect for the subject described previously. Kurosaka's animation style is immediately recognizable and is in top form, impressing despite the short length of the piece. The sound design is suitable, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere until the very final moments. Indeed, this is Kurosaka doing his style well and with great effect; this grotesque being will stay in your memory for quite a while, a testament to its overall effectiveness.

It's 57 seconds in total for some neat, grisly, and disgusting looking (but well animated) animation. What else can you expect from this man other than that?

Before I begin my actual comment, I would like to apologize in advance for my inadequate level of English proficiency. I am not a native speaker of the world's current lingua franca which unfortunately leads to me making numerous embarrassing mistakes being made whenever I attempt to communicate using this language. Whenever I am reminded of how I lack the ability to convey my thoughts in an eloquent manner, I feel as though I have committed a cardinal sin, as though every English teacher in the world is simultaneously shaking their head and sighing due to how utterly disappointed they are at me.

Although I know ... that saying sorry to those of you who are reading my comment will not change the fact that I fail miserably to write and speak perfect English, I am writing this as a way to deter a certain type of people who cannot stand poor English (Also known informally as Grammar Nazis) from mocking me by posting unwanted and unnecessary comments detailing my every blunder. In my humble opinion, making grammatical errors should be perfectly acceptable as native speakers should not expect non-native speakers to be able to communicate in their second or third languages eloquently. If you are able to completely understand what the other person wrote, is there really a problem with what they've written? No, because the entire concept of communication is the exchange of information between other intelligent beings, which means that no matter how the exchange of information is made, as long as the information is accurately shared there is not a fundamental issue with their ability to communicate. To see it in another way, remember that someone who isn't fluent in English is fluent in another language. When you think about it this way, isn't it impressive for someone to speak a second language in any capacity? Having empathy and respect are qualities that are sorely missing for far too many people these days, especially on the internet.

That being said, I am aware that not all netizens who correct others are doing it to ridicule and shame. There are some who do so with the intent to help others improve and grow. However, displaying the failures of other people publicly will cause the person who is criticized to feel negative emotions such as shame and sadness due to the fact that their mistake has been made obvious which severely undermines the point they were trying to make in spite of their unfamiliarity with the English language. In most circumstances people are not looking for language help when they post anything online. Most people just want to enjoy themselves and have a good time on the internet which is why I would not encourage correcting other people regardless of your intentions. If you really do want to help others with their spelling or grammar, I would highly recommend you to help via messaging privately because not only will you not embarrass anyone, you can also go more in-depth with your explanation which I'm sure the other person will greatly appreciate if they want help, but I digress. I know that I've written a bit of an essay, but I hope I've made my points clear.

Well, I don't usually write reviews, but I think that the reviews for this animation aren't very fair, probably because people reviewed it and saw in in the perspective of an anime or didn't take it very seriously. This as nothing to do with any popular anime on anime list in terms of style.

I won't really talk about interpretation in the review, because I am the type of person to take this at face value, and I think this is the best approach to take when you are exploring this type of animation. The main positive aspect and what makes it work is the contrast ... between the dark and aggressive art from the beginning with the "ugly" character bashing it's head on the screen and verbally attacking you, with tense sounds and with the fast clock sound that makes you feel very tense, like some sort of time limit, and the ending. The ending is just PERFECT, a complete contrast suddenly, a blue, cloudy and pretty sky background, the character turns into sea eagles and the sound is very calming ambience beach sounds. It's a extreme contrast that just feels great, and all the light and white colours are great. It's really the type of thing that you should approach with a empty mind and you shouldn't think too deeply about it, just take in the sounds and let everything guide you emotionally, there doesn't have to be a reason for anything, don't take it jokingly but don't try to take in too much either.

Any way, it's like 50 seconds, you might as well watch it, it too longer to read my review than it would to watch it, so please do.

Basically I found out about this anime short from the great Akidearest on her video "I Watched Anime You Should Never Google" honestly man, it is pretty disturbing to say the least. We see a mixture between Igor and Sloth from the Goonies looking creature, pretty much yelling at us with nasty words for no particular reason.

I have dozens of questions with this short like I would love to see the main reason why the monster was feeling this way. I wonder did Kurosaka Keita really think about that monster being us as humans when it comes to arguing with each other? ... Since it has the dementia tag, can it be to do with a person suffering from dementia and giving us the viewers, a good intention how we feel inside when we see a person having an outburst like that?

Yeah I wish this short wasn't a short like it just didn't give a clear indication of what's going on here. That's why I'm rating it a 6/10.....

Watching this with my brother and we can say this will give you nightmares.
for maximum experience, use headphones with max volume and watching in a completely dark room, make it dark as possible, and be sure to carry a copy of the bible and a Jesus Christ Dakimakura(Body Pillow) - you're going to need it. as your soul is about to leave your body for a brief 1 minute of your life. that concludes my TED Talk :) happy nightmares.

Plot
-Took long before anything visible or audible could be named.

-Plot was fairly random. If the attention was a jump scare it was ruined in countless ways. For example most people are hip to the jack and the box bit. Cover art sure doesn’t help any. In fact harms it.

-Vocals mentions were uncalled for and just plain mean. Shouts of curses.

... -Introduction as well as conclusion were quite random.

Art
Horrific is a wonderful word to describe. For it carries a double meaning here. Yes, the love of horror can be found here for its ugly appearance is shown. But at the same time it also shows how lame this production was.

Sound
-A bit off key in timing in certain spots. I will say that the up and close and personal moment was good. But that was the only good moment.

-Music along with animation noises were a tad loud.

Mochibei is an abstract short film by Kurosaka Keita. This review going to contain only my personal interpretations of what I got after watching this 57 sec short film.

I have two different viewpoints on this:

In the first interpretation the only character(ironically who is also the MC) that is portrayed here got in some sort of accident or something in the likes of this bcoz of that his whole face and body becomes deformed and with this comes great deal of problems both mental and physical.

Bcoz of this deformity everyday life becomes very much difficult to handle for the MC. As if ... we put ourselves in the shoes of the MC we can see for ourselves. Some things I would like to point out that will must happen with people with whom these kinds of accidents happens. Normal people keep staring these people , I'm not talking about everyone here but most do stare. Some people do talk about them and feel pity about them and all other sorts of other things normal people do. Due to all this the victim feel unsettled , frustrated , disturbed. And as the inner turmoil keeps on increasing the victim no longer wants to live and at some point in the short story the inner monologue becomes unbearable.

What I get from the ending is as the inner monologue keeps on increasing there is only one way left to be free from all this. The only way to peace for the Victim is death and finally he committed suicide and becomes free from all this.(Most feasible solution here is of therapy instead of committing suicide) but I don't think this is what portrayed in hachibei bcoz of that constant banging of his/her head on something(which is portrayed as viewer's screen).

In the end we can see the background with bright colours and the MC is no longer in the frame. Initially , the background is black which shows MC suffering and later on he got the peace he wanted which is shown by clear blue sky.

The second interpretation I get is the MC is suffering from some sort of mental illness. The main cause of this mental illness is because he is a loser in his life which is portrayed by the words like "Damn you" "Bastard" and "Useless" which for anyone clearly indicates that something is wrong with the mc life. As it keeps on increasing which is shown by his change of body after continuous banging on something (which is not shown) and the end he meets here the same fate as above i.e. commited suicide.
