So, Konosuba.

I jumped at the chance to watch this show after hearing about how much it took the piss out of stories like SAO, and in a way, I wasn't disappointed with what I had watched. This anime definitely takes the tired cliches of the "trapped in a fantasy world" setting and humorously puts them on blast.

Speaking of, Konosuba has a very dark and cruel sense of humor, something that's made readily apparent from the the first couple of minutes of the first episode. I won't spoil any of the jokes here, but this show makes it clear from the get go what kind ... of ride you're in for. It's intentions remain consistent throughout the series, and the viewing experience is fun and solid as a result.

That said, there are noticeable issues with Konosuba. The show, despite overall being parodic in nature, definitely reveals it's more pandering nature with it's main female characters. It's a waifu show, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it feels super out of place here. Granted, it's not as bad as other waifu shows can be, but considering that nearly every other cliche element in this show is played to parodic effect, I'm surprised this element is played mostly straight.

The music and sound design in Konosuba is great. It's not the most memorable soundtrack, but it gave me that RPG-ish feel when watching the show, and that's always nice. And despite me ragging on them, all the character designs are super well done and attractive, to the point where if they were handled a little bit better, I actually would've enjoyed watching the female characters in the show.

Overall though, Konosuba is just a fun show. If you hated SAO like I did, I think you definitely find some enjoyment here. And even if you don't really care about SAO either way, there's still a lot of fun to be had here. The jokes, for the most part, land well, the character designs are fun to look at, and the show as a whole is super self aware.

I've used the word fun a lot in this review, but that's really the best way to describe Konosuba. It just wants to have fun, and it does a good job of making fun for the viewer. It's not for everyone, but I'd recommend at least checking it out to see if it's your type of show.

Story - A bit funny at time but meh most of the time.

Sound - OK, nothing great.

Characters - MC is kinda funny, Aqua is annoying, Megumin and Dustiness are OK, but with repeated jokes make them kinda bland. No character progress at all. Can see a bit progress in MC but none in other characters. Nothing about leveling up or character development.

... Enjoyment - OK show if got nothing else to do or just for killing some time.

Overall - Meh.

Recommended? Not really.
Watch if got nothing better to do or nothing else to watch. Watch without any hope or expectation and watch just for the show's bland comedy.

I give Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! a 6.45 and I'll tell you why. For those looking for the summary, skip to the conclusion.

Story: 6

The story of this anime was decent but not groundbreaking. We follow the protagonist after his death as he is transported to a new world in order to beat the evil king of a parallel universe. The story of this anime basically takes the comedy and ecchi from Is ... It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and combines it with the tangible goal of escape similar to Sword Art Online. I also enjoy that this show revolves around one guy surrounded by three girls but doesn’t give him the stereotypical characteristics of incredibly nice and incredibly dense with romance – it takes more the perverted path.

Characters: 8

Personally, the characters are what I enjoyed most about this show.
The MC was perverted, similar to Hyoudou, the main character of High School DxD, but not so much so that it was the focus of the anime. This combined with his intelligence and ability to not get immediately blinded by sex appeal is what makes him different from many ecchi harem MC’s out there.

Aqua, the original supporting main character, fulfilled the role of the annoying and surprisingly capable crybaby. I found her similar to the MC of Skip Beat! simply because of how incredibly annoying melodramatic she was but actually proved to be quite capable when needed. That is as far as the comparison goes since the MC of Skip Beat! has a lot more going for her than Aqua.

Megumin, the mage was a cute, lovable character, but not a very complex character. Still, I very much enjoyed her and what she added to the party so I can’t say her lack of intense backstory was a huge negative.

The character that I found most original and entertaining was definitely Darkness, the crusader. I won’t say more in fear of ruining her character for those who haven’t seen this anime yet, but let’s just say I have never seen anything like it. Really entertaining and the reason I gave the characters the score of 8.

Art: 6

The art for this anime was good and I especially enjoyed the animations when different abilities were used but nothing blew my mind. I also couldn’t help but think of King Arthur from Stay Night whenever I saw Darkness, and couldn’t help but think of Rikka Takanashi from Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! when looking at the character of Megumin. If the characters looked more unique I would have given the art a higher score.

Sound: 7

The sound served perfectly to heighten the emotions meant to be given forth by the video. The sound effects and music made the comedy much funnier than it would have been without the sound. I also enjoyed the voice acting.

Overall: 6.45

I very much enjoyed this anime. It is the closest I have come so far to enjoying a satire anime. Although this isn’t classified as satire, I view it as one. Since I am not particularly fond of the satire genre, this is a surprisingly high score for me. Even I will admit that One Punch Man was brilliantly done but still give it a 6.2 simply because I do not particularly enjoy that genre, and therefore, not that anime. The character and comedy of this anime carried the 10 episodes of this series effortlessly through and although I am not eagerly awaiting the second season, I look forward to watching it when it is released.

I really don't see the appeal of this. It is clearly not the anime for me.

The story ultimately doesn't matter. It is one of those anime that an author can retcon, add, subtract and do whatever to the story and ultimately it wont matter because there isn't any ground breaking or even a mediocre story to tell.

Art is below par. I don't like how the character look flat. Everything is drawn on the main and background characters look and feel like paper. Thin outlines everywhere doesn't help elevate the paper-looking and flatness problem either. Animation is good from what I can remember.

I don't like the ... characters either. They are bunch of gimmicks and shticks on repeat. Do I want to watch 30 plus episodes of basically the same mishaps and shticks? I don't think so.

Enjoyment, well at this point I can't say I enjoyed anything of it. The humor is immature and not clever, the story is non-existent and the world is not unique or interesting. It is average at best.

Alright, so is this anime good? Yes. Is it worth a watch? Maybe, if you're looking for a quick, light-hearted pass time. Is this all it's hyped up to be? Weeeeellll... no.

I'm not familiar with this kind of fantasy-parallel-universe genre since I don't really know many "good" anime that stems from it, so when people say this is supposed to be a parody of that genre, I have to admit, I really have no clue how accurate that statement is. So I guess some of the humor is lost on me, then. Lucky me.

As a comedy, this didn't really work for me. Not sure ... if it was just my sense of humor, but a lot of it felt like it was flat and bland. Not saying that it was terrible, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, just the kind you typically find in anime. It seemed to fare much better with its longer punch lines and some of its running gags, though after some time, some of those got old quick. I will give the series some credit, since as it went along, it became much funnier and more entertaining, mostly because Darkness became more masochistic (okay, so I might have found that a little funny) and Kazuma became more and more done with everyone's shit. Kazuma cracked me up and probably was what made the show actually decent; he is my spirit animal, god bless his soul.

As for the actual plot... well, not much actually happens, but I don't think anyone was really expecting it to since it's a comedy. Which is kind of a bummer, because I really wanted to see them actually go on genuine adventures and defeat the Devil King and stuff. It gets a little boring when they're just doing the same things over and over again. Because - news flash - humor works just as well (if not better) if you actually spice things up a little. New settings are okay to use every once in a while - it won't detract from the fact that this is a parody (?) if you do it.

The art was pretty, but nothing special, especially for something made so recently. The character designs were pretty bland, especially for something supposedly set in a fantasy world, famous for its elaborate and creative character designs. Nope. None of that here.

The sound was probably one of the high points of the anime. While the opening sounded like something out of Love Live (aka bland and overdone) and the ending was too quiet for my taste (though it was pretty peaceful, which I'll give it credit for), the voice actors and their line delivery was what made me laugh sometimes rather than the actual jokes. Kazuma's tone when talking to the girls and Aqua's screams and wailing were absolutely perfectly done and quite hilarious, and the way the music swiftly switched on and off when something anticlimactic happened was entertaining, so kudos to the creators for that.

The characters were (ugh, I'm going to get a lot of hate for this) overall really bland and boring. Actually, Kazuma was the most interesting, because he was the most relatable: "Why am I here? What am I doing? This isn't the kind of fantasy world I imagined; I hate it." Darkness was probably the only girl I actually really liked, mostly because I kind of found her masochism amusing and her personality a little unique. Aqua was quite annoying, to say the least, and though I thought Megumin was cute, she was nothing special, as I've seen multiple characters just like her in the past. For a parody anime, it doesn't do too good of a job parodying tropes, now, does it?

I enjoyed this anime... I guess. I mean, I watched the entire season, and I'm planning to watch the next (and the next, when that comes out) so I guess I found it entertaining? Strangely enough, it stands out a little among others of its like, so I guess that might be it. I think the best way to describe it is it's one of those stupid cat videos on Youtube that wastes your time and are absolutely ridiculous, and yet you just can't stop watching them. But in all honesty, this review was probably a little harsh purely because of the high expectations that everyone set for this anime (and my terrible sense of humor), so I guess it didn't really reflect my true feelings.

Overall, this anime isn't terrible, but it's not as mind-blowing as everyone says it is. It's good and it's cute, and if you want a few laughs or just something a little silly and slightly entertaining to watch, then give this a go. If you're expecting something like Gintama or Nichijou, then you should probably go find something else to watch instead, since this is nowhere near that level of comedy.

I don't know why but I felt like writing a review for this anime.
I don't understand how this anime got such a high score, I mean there is nothing that special about it.
The story is... wait... is there any?
The art is not that great, it is pretty bad actually.
Those things are the most important ones to me in an anime, but I have to say, I still enjoyed it.

Why is that? Because Konosuba is not an anime meant to have a complicated plot (it doesn't really have any but let's keep that aside), it is meant to try to make you laugh through stupid jokes, ... and it does this pretty well in my opinion. Please note that when I say laugh, I may be exaggerating, I only cracked a few smiles but I never laughed.
I like the way each character can make you laugh in their own way, especially Aqua and Megumin who are the funniest characters of the show.
Of course you have to be into that type of humor to enjoy it, otherwise there is no point.

But the humor is the only thing that I enjoyed in this show. Watching 20 episodes (season 1 & 2) of a show without any plot can feel really boring sometimes, When nothing funny happens for more than 5 minutes, you quickly lose your interest and start wondering if the show is worth watching. The art doesn't help with that either, as I said earlier, it's quite bad.

Anyway, I watched it till the end of the second season and I wasn't disappointed at all, as I knew what I was watching: a plotless isekai comedy with bad art.
So my advice to anyone who is searching for a new anime to watch and wants to know if they should watch this or not: just give it a go!
Watch the first episode, and if you like it, keep watching, if not, find another anime to watch because this one just isn't for you. (maybe you should watch the first two episodes, I don't remember if their is a lot of humour in the first one)

TL;DR: Konosuba is a great shot at making a satirical anime about the "trapped in a fantasy world" premise. It has a really strong start, but as the anime goes on: its plot goes nowhere, its characters showcase a stale repertoire of personality traits, and stops awkwardly where I think the show actually started to get interesting. Konosuba did not crash and burn from start to finish. It definitely did lose some of its luster and shine. (5.6/10)

With the advent release of Sword Art Online there has been a noticeable rise of "trapped in a fantasy world" anime. This isn't to say there hasn't been ... many other before (.Hack/Sign). However, Konosuba is definitely one that has been on many people's radars from its new season coming a few days, and from its overt satirical take on the idea as a whole. I am not the biggest fan of anime series like this. But, friends around me have been signing the praises of this show. Do I believe that it is worthy of its "new savior of anime" title? No. Definitely not. There are various aspects of this show that I did find enjoyable. But, those definitely do not outweigh/set aside the various negatives I encountered throughout this 10 episode series.

To start out, the story of Konosuba starts off extremely hilariously with our main protagonist, the macho-man of this series, dying from shock. The story after that has various things where he picks up a new partner to help save the world from the tyranny of a devil-like figure who rules over their land. The premise of this show is definitely not striking new ground, especially with its otaku being set to save the world plot. This premise, while not new, feels fresh because of the comedic aspects that breaks a lot of the stereotypes that we may assume with its premise. Kazuma is essentially useless who travels with another useless, but extremely powerful new partner Aqua, much to her displeasure. This essentially useless duo makes for a good contrast to what we have seen in many anime series like Overlord, Sword Art Online, and Re:Zero.

From the anime overtly stating that its characters are not going to accomplish much for a very long time, it makes sense that its main focus shifts on the characters very early on. I think this was a smart move to make considering its a satire.

As for the characters, Kazuma is the "regular, otaku, guy" stereotype. He does not possess any outstanding characteristics, besides the "above average intelligence" that he possess from playing lots of video games. The supporting cast of characters are Aqua, Megumi, and Lalatina. I won't spoil their quirks in this review because they are best experience on your own first impressions. However, I found these three girls to be extremely grating towards the series. Aqua was annoying at the beginning of the series, and I could justify her discontent because of what happens to her. I also found this grating edge of hers to be quite a unique contrast to Kazuma. Except, her personality just gets more annoying from the raise in the sharpness of her voice, and her mannerisms that just irritate me. I find it hard to explain the niggling aspects of her behavior, but trust me its bad. Megumi and Lalatina are bit more likable because they are "calmer" in their actions. I would not say that either of them are show-stealers though. They do create endearing scenes, and interactions between other characters that I found really funny at several points in the series. When I wasn't laughing, I found them to be pretty generic characters beyond their single quirk that is supposed to make them "unique". Unfortunately, I hate to break it to those who read this review, a single quirk does not make someone unique. It is the actions, emotions, interaction, reactions, ideas, perceptions, outward appearance, etc. that stands out apart from the rest of the cast leads to interesting, unique characters. Konosuba does not have enough interesting differences between Kazuma, Lalatina, Megumi, and Aqua that I found worked during these 10 episodes that made me feel like I was not slogging through 15 minutes of interactions between its bland characters.

Luckily, Konosuba is extremely good looking. The art style of this show really emulates what I hope to find in a fantasy environment. There are bright tri-colored skies with lush green grass. What I also found is that when Kazuma enters the fantasy world, the animators consciously chose a warmer, brighter color palate from what is show in the first few minutes of this series. That subtle change should be commended because I think it made a world of difference since it emphasizes that idea that "our fantasies tend to be brighter than reality."

The rest of the animation quality is great. The particles from each characters spells and the "fighting" sequences look great. The movement from the characters looks smooth with slight dips in the animation quality in the middle of the anime when the plot really slow down. The spells still look great. But, the character models look a bit messier and less colorful.

In conclusion, I thought Konosuba was fine. I know there was a big focus on the negatives on this series, and not enough on the positives. I will try to work on that for the future. But, I feel this show started with something really good and hilarious. It may not have broken any boundaries or produced something that was unique in some aspect. What it did was create a solid foundation for a funny, satirical anime that pokes fun at its premise. As the anime went on, it got worse and worse from every aspect from it, disregarding the art quality. The plot did not move along nor had enough situations that I found to be funny. The characters even more so got worse, and the additions of Megumi and Lalatina did not do much to add to the camaraderie that I expect in a satirical anime set in a fantasy world. When I add all of those negatives together, I find myself having a pretty lack luster anime that does not live up to the hype. Maybe, I'm not the audience for Konosuba. That very well could be the case, and that would explain my distaste for this show. I know many reviewers and friends alike believe this to be a great anime, even worthy of the best anime of 2016. I do not. I think Konosuba was a great start to what I believe another anime will clean up and finalize into a great anime in the future.

Konosuba is a show about a young man dying and given another chance at life in a fantasy world not too dissimilar to a fantasy game (because it is) and he gets the opportunity to take one thing with him as he goes, what is his choice? The God that greeted him in death and laughed at his humiliating way of dying.

The main character isn't all that interesting.

The God he takes with him is annoying.

Megumin is one of (if not the only) likeable characters.

The masochistic knight is fine.

... The sound design is fine.

The story is non existent.

The animation is fine.

The show is fine.

The second season is fractionally worse

I guess I was expecting a bit more from this show given how hyped up it is and the amount of memes it has spawned. I did enjoy the first 4-5 episodes which I found to be really funny, but the second half of the show kind of petered out, telling a series of loosely connected events that weren't all that funny nor did they do much to explore any of the characters further. I know this show wasn't meant to actually tell a deep story or follow the light novels at all, serving more as a glorified advertisement for the source material rather than ... an adaption, but I was expecting to at least laugh a bit more that I did. The show was genuinely funny in the first half, the humor being most of its appeal, but I feel like it lost most of that in the second half.

That said, the animation was way better than it has any right to be. There some really great instances where the characterizations are exaggerated, creating really comical scenes, and others where the animation actually looks amazing. The way the magic is conveyed, especially Megumin's attacks, are quite engaging.

In the end though I feel like the second half of the show just relied on the assumption that the audience would stick around because literally every female character other than Megumin has massive tits. Overall, this show isn't terrible, it just left a lot to be desired for me.

KonoSuba is something I avoided watching for years, figuring it would be a generic ecchi comedy. I’m happy to say I was wrong! It’s a fun, lighthearted watch, with a deceptively lovable cast and strong comedic identity. However, it does falter on a few counts, enough so that I’m not fully happy with it.

PART 1: “””Plot”””

Satou Kazuma, an average high school NEET, gets Tractor-kun’d into the afterlife, where a certain useless goddess enlists him to travel to a fantasy world and slay the terrible Demon King. Upon granting him any parting gift he desires to aid his quest, Kazuma, ever genre-savvy, chooses the goddess ... herself. Turns out that being a goddess doesn’t necessarily equal being competent, and even a fantasy world structured like a stereotypical video game setting doesn’t necessarily come with cheat codes intact. Kazuma’s broke, his adventuring party is practically useless, and there are pretty much no opportunities for him to begin his quest to slay the Demon King.

It’s a parody of the isekai genre, not a subversion, so the plot beats are pretty obvious. Can you tell I don’t want to spend any more time on this than necessary? Okay, time for the part that people actually care about!

PART 2: Characters & Comedy

Throughout the first half, the jokes are great. Though their primary character traits are pretty trope-y, the characters have these surprising hidden depths to them that serve to keep the comedy fresh. I was worried that an anime about an isekai protagonist with three beautiful (albeit useless) female party members would quickly turn into some misogynist garbage, but—for the most part—it manages to dodge this by not centering their personal brands of insanity around their interactions with Kazuma. In particular, Aqua’s dependence on Kazuma and low intelligence stat doesn’t necessarily give him the power in their dynamic: it just goes to show that she’s a spoiled brat who, as a goddess with very straightforward duties, never actually needed to develop common sense.

Kazuma is properly pathetic, as all isekai protagonists should be, but it’s played straight—his pathetic-ness isn’t just a result of him being underpowered, he’s just genuinely a loser, through and through—and the anime gleefully pokes fun at him as much as it does the other characters. Kazuma’s pain and hardship is just as much a result of his bad personality and weakness as it is the fault of his party, which is what makes them all so fun to watch. In KonoSuba, everyone’s fair game, and that’s what makes the comedy and character dynamics shine.

KonoSuba has a strange tendency toward suddenly jamming in new characters, instead of showing us the actual sequences of how they met (specifically Wiz and Yunyun). I’m really not a fan of this revisionist-esque writing—show not tell, and all that—but that’s a pretty minor gripe.

Speaking of side characters, most of them are pretty generic, and not especially interesting or memorable. Maybe I’ll feel differently if they get more screentime in season 2, I dunno. I specifically had an issue with the more competent side characters, like Chris and Wiz. By virtue of actually knowing what the hell they’re doing, they act as a stabilizing force in an anime that’s at its best when it’s absolutely unhinged. I’m not saying everyone has to be useless, but I think that competent side characters should either act as obvious foils to the main cast (exaggerating their flaws) or slowly be dragged down into the party’s endless cycle of stupidity (become worse off by knowing them). The guild lady and Kyouya kinda fill those roles, but not really. The side characters need to commit more, or else they’ll remain forever boring.

PART 3: I Complain About Fanservice For A Hot Minute

Unfortunately, the fanservice detracts from the comedy in a way that’s borderline uncomfortable. (Looking at you, succubus wet dream episode.) Having to sit there and watch anime girls blush and stutter as they breast boobily about gives me an insane amount of secondhand embarrassment. Kazuma being a douchebag perv can make for funny scenes (the scene where he frightens Kyouya’s two companions away via horrifying hand motions and disgusting implications cracks me up), but a lot of the time, it falls flat, and then you just have to sit tight and watch anime girls get sexually harassed for minutes at a time. It’s not funny, it’s weird. I came here for comedy, not ecchi garbage. Again, I know that ecchi comedy can be funny—I watched AND enjoyed B-gata H-kei, okay, I get it—but Konosuba doesn’t make it work, because the fanservice actively goes against the main draw of KonoSuba’s comedy.

The primary issue is that it gives Kazuma a LOT of power over the female characters, which screws up the whole point of them all being just as useless as one another. KonoSuba is at its best when it’s a bunch of idiots all dragging each other down further and further into stupidity, and it definitely suffers when it forgets that. (I also feel that the fanservice detracts from any emotional connections you might have made with the characters, but that’s not as much of an issue in season 1 as it is in, say, certain godawful OVAs about cursed chokers!!1! -_-)

PART 4: Art, Soundtrack, etc. (also more complaining about fanservice: it's relevant, I swear)

The art style is pretty generic, and the animation isn’t especially notable, though it has its moments (see Kazuma’s pervy hand gesture scene). The opening theme is an absolute joy to watch, though. The facial expressions and little details—like the shiver that runs through Kazuma’s whole body when he tries slashing that rock monster in half—are delightful!! The expressions are generally pretty top notch. Anyways, get ready for me to complain about forced fanservice again:

I’m no stranger to jiggle physics, but something that really bothered me is how KonoSuba intentionally ignores opportunities for good framing, interesting angles, and impactful sequences, just so that they can squeeze in more fanservice. It starts off kinda funny, by virtue of how stupid and over the top it is, but it quickly becomes aggravating when a whole shot is dedicated to some random background character’s Big Mommy Milkers. I remember one particular shot in the guild, where the camera was pulled so far back you couldn’t see anyone’s faces, but you *could* see the desk lady’s ass sticking into the edge of the frame, for some reason. It’s not only uncomfortable, it’s just plain lazy.

The character designs are pretty cute, while remaining *juuust* practical enough that I don’t get distracted thinking “damn, how is she even moving around in that?” Importantly, they also reflect the characters’ personalities, and suit how they would want to present themselves: Megumin’s cape, oversized belt, and asymmetrical stockings definitely give off the vibe of a kid playing dress-up; Darkness’ armor is relatively practical, and she keeps herself covered up, but her leggings still show off her body; Kazuma’s is practical enough, but with the extra flair of a cape to show off how he’s actually a giant nerd in denial. Honestly, the only one I kinda have an issue with is Aqua's, because I really don't see how it suits her role as a goddess. Either way, their designs are cute and fun in a way that’s not distractingly stupid. I also love the color coordination!

The soundtrack didn’t stand out at all to me (including the opening and ending themes), but what did stand out was the voice acting--specifically, Kazuma’s. Most of the other girls’ voices were basically identical (aka so breathy that, once you notice it, it becomes almost hard to listen to), but Kazuma’s deadpan delivery and screams of rage makes the jokes hit way harder. While
watching, I would genuinely go back and just loop his lines over and over again.

I think I pretty much hit on everything, so let’s wrap this up!

PART 5: Conclusion

KonoSuba is a great anime that is, unfortunately, plagued by frequent fits of generic-ness. It uses fanservice as a safety net for when its comedy falters, which is silly at best and horribly uncomfortable at worst. It certainly exceeded my expectations, and I really had a ton of fun watching it (except for the mind-numbingly boring and generic finale, lol). The core of the anime is really strong, though, and I would recommend it, albeit with a grain of salt. As of right now, I haven’t seen season 2 or the movie. Hopefully they go beyond what the first season had to offer!

Konosuba - A World Without Bras!

It's a lighthearted adventure with a bunch of weirdos in a goofy isekai, with a few absolutely head-scratching moments of mean-spirited perversion from the main character. If you know you're getting a mostly fun story about someone reincarnated with a maxed out luck stat with a heaping side portion of fan service that veers into some wild territory, then I think you'd enjoy it. I was not expecting quite so much degeneracy from Kazuma but now I know!

Animation is fine, no mind-blowing stuff there (except for boobs, they really like animating boobs), story is pretty much just a fun ... string of misadventures around their town, and the dub is very solid. If you're a fan of fanservice, go for it. Otherwise, I'm not going to recommend it in polite company.

i thought it would be good at first but it wasnt even that funny, except for a couple jokes that were pretty good, and a comedy anime that isnt funny isnt fun to watch. the animation was good but the characters are pretty basic, the story is fine, i like the episodic feel, but overall it isnt good, it also feels very empty, like every character is an actual game npc. not even that good of a plot, even if it was fun to watch for like 20 minutes total. it keeps telling me to write a longer review lmao its long enough i gave ... my opinion, im gonna try to submit again

I watched this first season and it was whatever.

Another generic isekai that I didn’t really care for as I’m not much of a fan of the genre.
Wasn’t offended wasn’t entertained I was just bored.
The character design was good for the main girls unlike the mc’s lame get up.
The cgi in the last episode is very dated, got me giggling
Asides from that, art is bland but jiggle physics are crazy what the helllll
Isekai fans will like this one, it differs from tropes a little but not enough for me. Sure the characters all differ a little from your usual stereotypes, but the overall story ... is similar enough to a normal isekai plot, the only difference being how the characters achieve things and it’s not done in an interesting enough way for me to care about it.

Most isekai follow a very empty and repetitive plot. Protagonist X is a generic shut-in gamer who worries more about his in-game character's stats over his own education. Suddenly, event Y occurs and he is transported into a fantasy world; a world where weapons, warlocks, and scantily-dressed girls are as far as the eye can see. In this world, he is paired with Girl A, who has a strange attraction to the foreigner. Together, they take on the evil forces of the Devil/Demon King, meeting Girl B and Girl C, who share that same attraction to the protagonist. Then it stops abruptly when you realize ... that seasons take forever to get animated and you're not going to see what happens next for another three years. Oh, and there's also lots of eye candy for the standard male viewer to gawk at just in case the story was too boring to want to listen to.

This is typical, this is tried, this is true, and this is also kind of boring.

Where Konosuba differs is the intent of these plot devices. Yes, the protagonist is a shut-in gamer and experiences an event that brings him to the world we spend the rest of the series in. But the event is not only unique, it is hilariously so, something that I've yet to see in an isekai anime. Yes, he is immediately paired with a girl who has more bosom than brightness. But the girl in question not only hates his guts, she is also tagging along with him against her will rather than doing it out of sheer interest in this random Japanese nobody. Yes, there are two more girls that join the main crew. But they are just as stupid, if not more, than the first girl, and bring their own annoyances that drive our protagonist up the wall in every episode. The Devil King returns to yet another universe where we will never see him. But we can see his lackeys, and they are hilarious secondary characters that bring an even greater dose of humor to the show. And then there’s the cleavage. It is there in spades, and it’s kind of annoying at some point when you remember that boobs do not, in fact, move like that. If it’s not obvious enough, Konosuba takes a satirical spin on your typical isekai plot with monkey paw twists to its characteristics, VERY crude humor, abundant jiggle physics, and the occasional upskirt shot.

But that’s the thing, it’s satirical. At the end of the day, a satirical take on a much loved genre just doesn’t suit the fancy of some anime fans. Think of it like lunch in the schoolyard. In yester-year, the isekai that were loved were the brown paper-bag lunches atop the skyscraper, the ones you’d enjoy with students who were just like you. Nowadays, isekai like Konosuba are the Lunchables that one rich kid brings in their bright and shiny thermos lunchbox, the ones that make the less fortunate kids stare with envy. The typical anime fan is the kid that still brings the brown bag containing a healthy portion of all major food groups; the kid that cares not that the rich kid can make a mini pizza for themselves rather than express jealousy about it.

I can sympathize with them. Sometimes I grew tired of the same old jokes, the same punchlines consisting of either boobs, a character’s idiocy, or both if they were feeling extra daring. This type of humor is funny as much as it is a nuisance to deal with over and over again. Think that one meme template that uses a Diary of a Wimpy Kid drawing panel, where Manny says something and receives laughs and some light praise. Then he says it again, and now everyone is visibly distraught and long past the point of laughing. The humor present in the show can balance between either an eyeroll or a light chuckle, two extremes that many would prefer to see at least the middle of as to not be too daunting. To its benefit, many of the jokes land in the latter category.

Maybe it’s because I found it funny at some points and annoying the rest of the time. Maybe it’s because I have watched objectively better isekai that took itself seriously. Maybe it’s because this is the first anime I ever watched no thanks to my friend who decided this was a great kickoff to my journey. But Konosuba is an acquired taste. If you are one who is willing to take the punches at your favorite genre, you may like it more than you think. However, if you are not fond of the humorous criticism, the hyperbolic tropes, and the over-exaggerated amount of eye candy, then it may not be something for you. And that is completely fine.

Honestly, it probably wouldn't want you to watch it either.

Konosuba is funny. It doesn't heavily rely on dialogue for humour, it has good comedic timing, it often switches its art to better complement the jokes, the voice actors are clearly enjoying their lines, and its main cast of colorful members have great (or should I say terrible) chemistry.

Plotwise, the overarching story doesn't advance much during the short 10 episode run, and none of the side characters seem relevant. The season felt like an advertisement for the main group. I'm curious to see if they make some progress next season, but honestly I'm more curious to see what kind of nonsensical shenanigans the group will ... get into. Finally, I think the animation and the soundtrack were meh except for Megumin's glorious explosions.

Overall, I'm not a fan of the 'Isekai' genre and the season felt far too short and empty to deserve a high score but it is funny and I love the main cast except Darkness. Recommended.

This anime was quite good and was very funny I liked this anime until I saw a character called Aqua. Aqua is so anoying. wtf is wrong with her. I just feel very sad for the mc because of aqua. If the waifu in this anime was zero two or megumin it should definetly deserve a 10 out of 10 and should win the anime of the year. But this got ruined because of the character called aqua. Why does she exist. She is just existing and doing trash things. why couldnt the Mangaka change the Waifu to Megumin? The worst part of this anime ... is mainly Aqua but there are worst things. The Worst thing is that my friend likes Aqua. Everytime I meet my friend at school he talks about anime which is quite good but his wallpaper is Aqua. I will not personally let that slide. I am currently waiting for season3 but if possible Kadokawa Daiei Studio must either delete Aqua from every scene or change Aqua to another waifu. such as rem

If you want to get annoyed this is the one. You will be get annoyed or disgusted by one of main character Aqua more likely japanese Karen. I don't know why this show is so popular not that funny or good story there is lot of good shows deserve better score than this show.

Quite honestly, I don't understand how this is rated as high it is. Not anywhere near as close.

I have to admit that I originally thought it was going to be amusing and at points throughout it is, but I guess the biggest problem I have is that it's disappointing, rather than just bad.

The protagonist does absolutely nothing but whine and complain and bitch and moan. He does have a party and mostly full cast of women around him. despite their inabilities and annoyances etc, he treats them like crap. Of course they are self-important, underdeveloped or continually aroused, yet they always save his ass. He ... is one of the most disappointing protagonists I have ever seen, but he fits the profile of a truly sad, teen boy through and through. He does not grow in any way. He doesn't get any better.

There are some entertaining scenes in each episode, but they can't overshadow his shortcomings.

i recommend this anime if you're watching anime to refresh your mind. because this anime is more like slice of life and comedy rather than adventure isekai anime in my opinion. one thing that comes to my mind when i remembering this anime is the bouncing boobs animation, when i watched it for the first time belike "WHY THE HELL THEIR BOOBS ARE BOUNCING EVERYTIME".

the story is light, even i think you can enjoy this anime without knowing the story. the sound was generic, i didn't like the op and ed too much. but i kind of appreciate to the artist that sang the opening ... because she's changing the time signature in the middle of the song. overall, i enjoyed this anime but this anime is not the type that anime that i can binge watching in one day. even i only watch this anime 1 to 2 episodes for 1 day

Verdict: A stupidly good anime to watch when you're bored.

Satou Kazuma, having been reincarnated in a fantasy world after suffering a (laughable) tragic death, is now stuck with his mismatched-yet-effective party consist of goddess/archpriest Aqua, mage Megumin and crusader Darkness. KonoSuba is basically about their adventures to reach and defeat the Demon King.

I'll keep this short. It's been a while since I've watched a comedy, but I found myself laughing from the beginning. The introduction of characters was pretty straightforward and the format was linear throughout— accept quest, win, screw up and start over. Though it was enjoyable for a bit, it got old real ... quick. There were a few scenes that were hard to watch I had to take a break. I wouldn't recommend binging everything in a day. The art and music could've been better for a 2016 show, but it wasn't that distracting. As for the characters, I felt like I only knew them on a surface level. They're cute and funny, that's all. While background crumbs were dropped here and there, it wasn't enough for me to really care about them. Then just when you think there's gonna be some kind of development, they just go back to being their silly selves. I mean— that's the point, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed that there was nothing more than that. Still, there were some good moments.

If you could get past all of its flaws, KonoSuba is worth giving a try. Treat it as a weird dream you'll forget about tomorrow. It's not on par with other isekai comedies out there, but it kept me hooked enough from start to finish.
