Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo

In the beginning of the movie, you will see how clumsy and tomboyish our main character is while hanging out with two guy best friends. Not very far from the beginning she discovers that leaping through time was not impossible. Having that power, she decided to use it for herself without thinking what will be the consequences be. First, things are going into plan. She enjoys leaping, correcting her silly mistakes etc. etc. But finally, she realizes that leaping through time will change everything she was hoping for.

In this movie, you will witness how a girl possess the power of going back ... in time without any hesitation but suddenly wishes she had never used that kind of power, thinking that this power wont solve anything...

This is one of the best anime movies ever. Although I've seen it soon after it's releasse - this is still bright in my mind, so I'm gonna rewatch it.
The story - flows in an easy and comprehensible way - so this won't leave your brain with mistery questions.
The characters - common which makes the story even closer to each of us. Nothing spectacular in this anime but this is exactly what makes the anime so good.
Very good anime art - the staff did a great job on this.
Everything is lited by good humor, a little sci-fi, and the story revolves in a ... totaly Magic way!
To me this anime is fabulous.

Story: The premise of this movie has been seen before, probably many times. You have the main character who discovers a way to go back in time to fix certain aspects or to prevent events from happening, something happens (usually negative) because of the constant time leaping, etc etc. Because the story line was familiar, it was pretty obvious what might happen, but something did happen that I was not expecting that's for sure.
Because this is a movie, the pacing was pretty quick. I would be curious to see how this would have played out if it was an actual series.
Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Drama were ... correctly labeled to this movie for obvious reasons. The romantic side does not fully manifest, however it does pick up steam by the end.
I found the end to be a bit disappointing, mostly because I am a hopeless romantic but it left alot to be imagined by the viewer.

Art: I became first interested in this movie because I would always see clips of it used in AMVs I would watch on YouTube. At first glance, I thought the art style was beautiful and reminded me of the movie Summer Wars. As it turns out, they are both products from the studio Madhouse.
All of the characters look like people you would see on the street which is good to see in this type of story. It made the characters more relatable, which I feel like alot of us have wanted to go back in time to fix something we screwed up.

Sound: The music was gorgeous to say the least. It made me feel like I was witnessing the greatest human creation ever. I definitely prefer instrumentals anyday.
As far as english dubbing is concerned, I feel like they could have casted someone better for the main character Makoto, but she was still pretty decent. My favorite voice was definitely Andrew Francis as Chiaki. Oooh I just love his voice :)

Characters: Again, because this is a movie and not a full fledged series, there were very little back story for anyone. The character with the most story is Chiaki and he isn't even the main character.
Like I said before, I believe a lot of us, if not all, can relate to what Makoto is thinking. Hopefully we wouldn't react so drastically, but who knows how far we would go to make something better.
The characters were pretty flat other than their friendship with each other. It felt like everyone were pawns for Makoto to play with.

Enjoyment: In all, I gave this movie a 7 out of 10. I feel like if it would have been a series, it would have gotten a better score, but it was still pretty great nonetheless. If you are a fan of anything made by Madhouse, or are a fan of time travel, this movie is for you :)

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo anime is one of the most beautiful I've seen, even if only a movie, got too much attention. In the beginning seemed to be just a cliché anime where the girl could go back in time to fix the errors, but in the course of history, Makoto matures and becomes much more concerned about people around you. The novel is very lightweight, extremely quiet and beautiful and pure. The lesson seems to leave the anime is never to leave and then what can be done now, because time does not come back. Another nice detail in the anime is the friendship ... of three main, it is remarkable that the concern with one another, not to leave the other alone etc ... Finally, it is highly recommended for people who enjoy an anime adventure and romance well levinho ... For me it was Dec. ..

Time travel, time leap, time diving -the things that have intrigued us humans for generations. But beyond its possibilities and fascination, time travel is indeed a frightening thought/concept.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time bring along a simple story of a clumsy girl who gains the power to leap through time. As she uses the power she seem to understand what her actions can lead up to and how it affects other.

Art-10/10
If someone asks that if you had a choice which country's pizza would you like to eat, most would answer Italy, because it's obvious that you would ... find best pizzas there. Similarly Japanese anime movies have their so-called trademark animation which is not Disney-like or like any other country it is just DIFFERENT. What remains is one fact that is it suits the story and catches the eye which is enough to call it good ART. The animation was beautiful which won it the Animation of the Year in Tokyo Anime Awards, 2007.

Characters- 9/10
The character design was good, especially of Makoto, the different emotions and reactions are realistic yet adorable. It was the regular school-anime-type characters but they still had a warmth in them which made them lovable.

Music-9/10
Music was nice, typical for a bit-romance movie.

Voice Actors-10/10
Voice of the characters is like the heart of anime. Voice actors in movies are specially good, in this one too. Makoto and Chiaki had a great voice so did others.

Story play/Narration-9/10
Directed by Hosoda Mamoru, the story was well put. There was no particular narration, it had a straightforward screenplay which was best suited for the story.

Story-8/10
Through the concept of time travel a light-hearted story is told which is enjoyable yet thoughtful. It didn't have any particular problems so you can say it was a complete story in itself but as you know the story talks to yourself so you can judge it by your own virtues but still all in all it is a NICE story.

Enjoyment-9/10
It will give you a nice experience with some things to thought through-like how we wish to do things over again. You definitely wouldn't get bored (no matter you watch anime or not)

In a nutshell it is a movie you should watch, if you like to undertake new ventures.

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo Review


Story (9/10) Great

The Story for Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is simple but great. It starts off real slice of life-ish but obviously by the name of the anime movie you get into the meat of the story and it left the mystery of why she can do it hidden for a good amount of time before explaining how she can do it and where it came from. I appreciate that it explained those type of things because I've seen too many stories that'll just have it in there just for the sake of it and have it occur for ... plot convenience only, although all of them do it for that very reason but this didn't feel forced (Like Kimi No Nawa, Re: Zero and Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi).


Art and Animation (9/10) Great

The art style and animation were both great, although I don't think it was anything mind blowing it's great for a 2006 anime movie. Some scenes were flat out amazing and some were just meh, sometimes the movement of the characters did feel vaguely sloppy but it was no where near enough to complain about but it did leave enough on me not to give this section a 10 none the less it's still great.


Sound (8/10) Very Good

I watched this anime in english dub so the voice acting was very good on everyone. I felt all of the characters matched the voice actors they got for the role. The background music didn't have anything outstanding and didn't have anything that felt misplace or horrible so I'm neutral when it comes to that.

Characters (9/10) Great

The characters were great in this anime movie. All of the characters that got somewhat of a spot light, I felt somewhat connected to which is a good thing. A lot of series these days can't make me give a care about anyone but the main character a maybe like 3 others most of the time. All of them felt real and likable so if any of them were in any danger (which they were) I definitely wanted them to be okay which means you've done a good job at making me care about the current cast.


Enjoyment (10/10) Outstanding

For anime movies I'll definitely say this has to be one of my favorites I've watched in a long time. At first I wasn't really feeling it, I mean we know what the movie is called so up until she did it for the first time I was just waiting in anticipation for when it would occur. And yeah we can predict what the entire plot, girl gets ability, girl abuses ability, girl makes her life better or more convenient for her to live in, something bad happens, girl loses ability, girl gets ability back and somewhat fixes everything. Although I've said in the past I do not like a story that I can predict, what I do not like even more is the execution of said predictable plot and the explanation behind said story driven plot, if that's trash to me then my overall impressions and enjoyment can be tainted. The said story plot will leave a bad taste in my mouth and the three anime I named in the story section all fell guilty to that this flaw.

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo was an extremely enjoyable anime movie and if I made a top 10 favorite anime movies I know this would be somewhere in it. The execution of the plot is what I think the best thing about the movie and also the explanation behind the supernatural ability. Explanation behind time manipulation powers or any supernatural abilities in movies like this most of the time go missing and never explained and that drives me insane to no end, this didn't do that. Anyway this is a great movie and I'm glad I took the time to watch it because time waits for no one!

Time-travel is probably one of my favorite plot points in sci-fi, as they open a vast array of possibilities, from every-day stories, like Groundhog Day, to hugely complex time-travel plots, such as 12 Monkeys. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, somehow, has a bit of both.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo) is a 2006 sci-fi anime film that is produced by the studio Madhouse. It is directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who also created and directed Summer Wars and the recent Wolf Children.

Konno Makoto is a relaxed high school girl who spends her days away playing catch with her friends Chiaki Mamiya ... and Kousuke Tsuda. One day, she discovers she can time leap and uses this power to make her life a bit easier. She ends up changing a lot of things for her personal convenience. However, things are not as simple as it seems and her travels start having some unforseen consequences.

While time-travel is getting used in fiction more and more, there always is room for innovation. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time isn't exactly new, but makes a fresher use of this plot point than many other movies released since it aired. The ways Makoto uses her power are petty, but they end up generating bigger and bigger consequences as time goes on.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time also portrayals themes other than the time-travel itself, for example, the teenage years and friendship. The three protagonists are teenagers and act the part, with their own insecurities and desires somewhere in between the childish and the mature. Makoto is a great example of this, as she doesn't want the moment she is living to end, but also wants to find what to do afterwards.

While the film doesn't have the most complicated storyline, it does portrayal varied things in its 1 hour and 30 minutes run. The movie has two romance subplots, a subplot intrinsically related to the main story and the proper time-travel to deal with, and manages to close every plot thread in a meaningful and, sometimes, tragic way.

The characters are what makes this possible. They are all well realized and show a good amount of depth and emotions. Makoto is usually cheerful, but she can get serious and has to deal with her newly found powers, her future and her feelings regarding the present. Tsuda, on the other hand, is the most reliable of his friends, but hides some of his sides in the various timelines. Chiaki seems to be a very mysterious and a bit aggressive guy, but he opens up to his friends and the viewers get to see who he really is.

The art, however, isn't up to par with the rest of the movie. It portrayals movements with incredible finesse and sense of speed and the backgrounds are impressive, everything else, from the characters to the objects, feels a bit underwhelming and barebones.

Still, that didn't influence my enjoyment of the film heavily, as I was too drawn in by the story. It was pretty enjoyable to see the cast interacting, while still trying to figure out why exactly everything was happening.

I would recommend The Girl Who Leapt Through Time to basically anyone, as it is pretty accessible. also, both fans of sci-fi and slice-of-life romance will find a lot to like in it.

The charm of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time lies in the subtleties of the story. It will calm your soul with its magnificent art, please your being with sublime music, excite your mind with a deep and rich story, and make your heart experience a cornucopia of emotions, moving you all the while.

The movie showed how our actions can greatly affect others, and teaches us what it means to move without direction, to act without thinking, because time waits for no one.

Time travel exists. Those of previous days, those of current times, and those of the next generations: All of us moves toward the ... future at the pace of a second per second. But if you get the chance to go back in time, would you?

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is a sci-fi semi-slice of life semi-romance movie. The main character, Makoto, attains the ability to "leap" through time. Paradoxes ensue.

Story: For the most part, the story was very good. However, I felt it was difficult at times to follow exactly what is going on. Drawing out a timeline along with alternate timelines could help clarify the plot. The ending could have been a little better, but is okay as it stands. 9/10

Art: The movie in general has very good art, especially on landscapes and specific details. However, some of the movements made by characters seem poorly done and sometimes it ... looks like the artists didn't bother drawing in faces from a father distance. For the most part, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo has good art, but cannot really rival to Makoto Shinkai's works like Byousoku 5 cm per second or The Place Promised in Our Early Days. 9/10

Sound: The music for the movie was very good overall, but I had only one problem with one aspect of the overall sound. This is my personal opinion. I thought Makoto's crying was rather annoying, as if she were a 5 year old. Otherwise, the movie's sound was great. 9/10

Character: The movie has a very interesting cast of characters. The interactions among these characters can be very amusing and allow the audience to understand more about the characters. Most characters turned out to be very likable (except for a crazy one or two =P) 10/10

Enjoyment: I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. There were definitely the funny moments of this movie. The movie was able to leave me with a sense of satisfaction and the thought, "Man I'm so glad I decided to watch this movie." 10/10

Overall: A few pieces still don't click in my head yet, mainly from the plot, but I would highly recommend watching this series. It doesn't matter if sci-fi is not your genre. The other parts of the movie will pull you in. 10/10

Story: looking at the title i was completely surprised at how down to earth this anime was. And you know in the end that is what i think made it so great.

Art: Nothing flashy, but why should it be? The style and the movie blend perfectly.

Sound: The music is simple but sets a great mood, and the rest of the sound it just plain nice. Once again it's nothing amazing but it is perfectly suited

Character: I felt that the majority of the characters were underdeveloped, however that is not important. Why? B/c the main character is wonderfully developed. You get a good sense of ... personality, attitude, emotion, and everything else you could want. She is just splendid. The best thing of all is the way she approaches the whole operatunity she is presented with, it's just so simple, yet so realistic.

Enjoyment: What can i say? i loved this little movie. The individual aspects would be nothing to write home about, but together they build each other up and create a beautiful whole that shines.

about my only gripe on this entire movie was the little time jump moments with the white space and red time-lines. It just seemed very out of place and frankly stupid to have included in such a way.

A classic story of love, regret, and redemption, I absolutely loved this movie! A story about a girl who accidentally stumbles onto the power to time travel. Now, what she does with this power... well that's what this story is about. What would any high school-er do with them power to time travel... you need to watch to find out.

The artwork of the characters is rather simple in style but their personalities more than make up for that. The art of the scenery is another story. The detail to the environment as well as color and feeling truely makes this anime come alive. The story ... is bound to be a classic! This is definitely one of those true gems that everyone should at least see if not have in their library. The characters are done intelligently, not sappy or overly dramatic and depressing. The emotions they (and the audience) experience runs the gammut of human feelings. Joy, pain, love, envy, regret, laughter, it's all there. As for the ending, I LOVED IT!

It seems that not everyone would go ballistic if they had the power to go back in time. I for one would take our modern military hardware back to the age of Kings and become the most powerful ruler in all the land. But for Konno Makoto, it appears she only wants to right the wrongs in her life.

The STORY within this movie is seemingly well-paced and continued time and time again (Pun intended) to make me believe I understood something, only to be proven wrong. That is a good trait and means that the movie was not predicatble, yet still entertaining. Althought not as ... 'familyish' as most of Mamoru Hosoda's work, it is still an easy watch. The only quabble I had with it is just before the ending. I would've liked the anime to end with the same complication as it started off with. It too, could've been plausible, and a ten-fold more moving then it's current ending, however, it would've detracted even further from a 'family' anime :)

The ART, like in most of Mr. Hosuda's anime(s), is beautiful to look at. He continues to utilise seemingly normal-looking characters (Like in Summer Wars) to get away from the usual Anime-staple of stupid hair and aircraft-carrier sized swords. The background art almost looks like photoshopped real images which is good. There is no shortage of quality overall.

Throughtout the anime, the SOUND was enjoyable. Voice-acting flowed well with the animation and always seemed to convey the mood they were in with flawless modulations of voice and volume. It may have been my version though (A fansubbed version of the Blu-Ray edition) but I did get the occasional high-pitched whine during the voices. Although not a deal-breaker, it was noticeable, but again, I'll let it slide. The soundtrack also illustrated the emotions and feelings of those involved through it's joyour overtones and slow ballads, that really captivate the moment, and further enable the viewer to see what type of mood the scene is in.

CHARACTERs, is something that Mr. Hosuda's films builds heavily on, and works on character development throughout the movie. Makoto at the beginning of the movie, has a far different outlook at the end of the movie. The cast within the school, her auntie and her family really demonstrate the dissenting views on what they can understand of what's going on. There is a really moving moment when Makoto's little sister sees Makoto about to Time Leap, which she interprets to be Makoto commiting suicide because she ate her pudding. I could really feel the emotion as illustrated through the sound and animation.

I've been really into Anime-Movies lately, as they generally have a more definiative ending, and this movie follows through with that idea. The story was conclusive, and I found it very easy to watch, (although I still prefer "Summer Wars" for ease-of-watch.). The animation, characters and sound work together to make for an immersive experience and I highly recommend this.

I recommend you watch this now, because "Time Stops for No One."

The plot has to be the best yet written for a movie. My first anime film not done by Miyazaki showed me that there are more than just one genius Japanese film makers out there. It goes at an easy pace but never felt slow. I was really surprised how time travel was kept very simple and unconfusing. Somehow it all made sense. The art would be perfect, if it weren't for some of the very slopily made shots. However I think those shots did help give the show it's ... feel. The voice acting and music was very good, far from perfect but it was very well done. Characters were loveable and Makoto pulled at my heart strings several times during the movie. For awhile she was even on my top ten favourite characters. I also liked Kousuke alot. In the end this would be my favourite anime movie, if not favourite movie ever made. Everyone should see this. However my mom went to bed before she even finished it, she just didn't get the point... oh well -_-, I guess it's going to be a little longer before I make her into an Otaku.

I loved this film. It reminded me slightly of a cross between Only Yesterday and Whisper of the Heart from Studio Ghibli. My only complaint is that, besides the usual plot holes and paradoxes that any film involving time travel has to burden, there were quite a few major plot points at the end of the film that weren't explained satisfactorily or thoroughly enough. It shouldn't be too much of an issue but the effect was that it made the emotional climax at the end of the film seem slightly forced rather than a natural outcome to the story. It's a shame because everything else ... is top drawer and it just falls short of total brilliance. Highly recommended.

This is an amazing anime movie, where all the characters are depicted realisticly, in a surprisingly human way. Through the actions of the main character, we are able to see ourselves, since the way she reacts and feels would be the way most of us would. However, she does have a little help in the decision process, since she can travel in time and erase her mistakes. Interestingly though, the movie makes us think if it is really right to correct our mistakes, or if there are some matters which are unavoidable, and that everything happens for a reason.

SPOILERS

The only thing I didn't like, which ... isn't exactly bad, was the fact that she couldn't end up with Chiaki. I guess not everything is made up in the fairy tale formula. It left me wanting for more...

What I can say though, is that by avoiding giving the story a fairy tale ending it makes the viewer think more.. and realise one must cheerish the present, instead of always making plans for the future, since otherwise life just passes us by..

WATCH THIS MOVIE, SINCE YOU WILL CERTAINLY ENJOY IT, IT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL, AND WARM.. =)

"Time waits for no one"

This is essentially the theme of this movie as our heroine, Makoto Konno, gains the ability to "time leap".

What would you do if you were given the ability to turn back time? You'd probably redo a few embarrasing moments here or there, or try to avoid future events entirely. This is exactly what Makoto does as she goes through the trials of a highschool teenager. Pretty soon, she finds herself suffering the consequences of altering the past...

Based on a hit-Japanese novel, The Girl who Leapt Through Time is a great story about the struggles every highschool student must soon or ... later face: love, college tests, friendship...You will find yourself easily becoming immersed in the plot (and some may cry for the touching ending!). The art is superb and the music does not fall behind expectations.

This movie is, without a doubt, one of the must-see's of any anime fan. So I strongly urge everyone to hurry and watch it:

The ability to go through time, and change it so it benefits what you want or need. I think mostly everybody would agree with me that they would want the possibility to do so.That is what actually drew me to the show, I thought it would be an interesting concept to portray. However I think they completely nailed it. I honestly believe it was one of the greatest anime movies to date.

Art 9/10: The art and style of the anime was simple and clean. They didn't really need a over the top amazing style of anime to get you interested or make it understandable. Though ... the special effects left me breathless. Overall I think the style of the anime actually made it better.

Sound 10/10: I, honestly, am not very tough on the sound of an anime or show because I find most of the time it fits in perfectly. In Toki wo Kakeru Shojo the music really helped set the mood and made you feel what the characters where feeling. I do actually feel the need to say that at times the sound was too quite and I had to turn my sound up all the way to hear what they were saying, that might just be my computer though. Other then that, the sound and music was fantastic.

Character 10/10: The characters are very well written. The voice actors were also perfect for the characters as well. After ten minutes of getting into the movie I was already developing feelings for the characters, feeling sorry for them when it was appropriate, as well as feeling happy for them. They had a good success in portraying teenagers in high school and most of all of their situations, besides given the ability to time travel, was highly believable for teenagers to go through.

I really enjoyed watching Toki wo Kakeru Shojo, when everything was pieced together and explained it just seemed to fit in perfectly. I had no questions at the end or even through out the movie. The quote that was written on the board "Time waits for no one" really seemed to stick out at me. I honestly believe that it means that you should appreciate the present and the people around your life right now, to stop p. Who knows, something could happen to change all of that in a minute.

Have you ever had bad day? A day when you leave your umbrella at home and it starts raining? A day when you tripped walking to school and fell flat on your face? Don't you just wish you could redo that day and do it right?

I'm a big fan of Science Fiction so of course I've seen a lot of time travel movies and usually in movies like this the characters always travel back in time to win the lottery or prevent some disaster from happening. However, in this movie, Makoto doesn't use her power to change the world, but just makes very little harmless ... changes to the past. Where's the harm in that, right?

That's what I think makes this movie great! Makoto does what any high school student would do with time travel powers and you don't think she's hurting anyone. However, by the climax Makoto regrets ever time traveling because she finds out how great her life would've been if she had never time traveled at all. I was crying at the end of the movie because I felt so bad for Makoto :(

Also, I really think this movie should be considered a slice of life. The movie focuses more on Makoto than the story and the movie is about a specific event in her life.

This movie has sort of the typical, time-leaping plot that others have. It is quite enjoyable, however, the ending left me incomplete with a dissatisfying ending.

Story 7/10: It's extremely enjoyable for the first hour. Typically goes somewhat straight to how she gets the time-leaping device with no stretching of the plot whatsoever. However, regarding what I mentioned above, the ending leaves too much of an incomplete feel to it. If you like open endings, then it's great 9/10. But, being a lover for open-endings, it just leaves too many loose ends.

Art 9/10: Quite simple art, I've grown to like it though.

Sound 7/10: Meh, nothing ... special. Nice intense music when needed, good character voices. It's good.

Character 7/10: Character development isn't that important with some of the side characters. They support the main character's personality in order to highlight her as the focus.

Enjoyment 8/10: This goes along with the story review above. Enjoyable for the most part, except the ending just kills it a little. Still good though and would rewatch it on a rainy day.

Overall 7/10: It's a simple movie with a good plot, even though it could've been better with a more straight-forward ending. Like come on, at least hint at something that provides some context as to where the characters ended up or enough information for fans to poke at conspiracies. I recommend it since I teared up heh, however it is a movie in which one would say the ending is too subtle that it sort of kills the movie for you.
