Nagao Takena strikes again in one of his older works of art.
This is by and far the best anime that my mortal eyes have had the pleasure of looking upon. It is pure art compressed into 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Why, you skeptically ask? Well, my naive young otaku, let me tell you why.
The story of this masterpiece revolves around a broken young women dressed in pink, who arrives at a supposed studio, when her past is revealed as she kills a woman chained to a wall.
The story speaks volumes of our society's new age of feminism. It bravely faces the true face of humanity, as we are shown the cruel and twisted fate of the woman named Pinky.
At a technical scale the anime does better than any studio I have ever known of. The character models are so crisp and clear, and the environment itself has more work put into it than any other show I've seen in my life.
The voice acting is superb, and the sound effects are just amazingly done.
As for the music, it is the best soundtrack I have heard in a while, surpassing the likes of Bebop and Champloo with it's varied musical themes throughout the episode.
The character development in this anime is at a level of it's own. Surpassing heights such as Evangelion and Steins;Gate in an instant. The story of the girl dressed in pink is heart wrenching, is even passes Clannad After Story with it's drama.
With all of this, I am surprised that it has still not passed Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood yet.
With all of this in mind, I award this anime with a 10 out of 10. I would rate it more if I could, since, frankly, it deserves a 100 out of 10.
If you are still skeptical of this anime, I ask you to do yourself a favor, go watch it right now. It's only 2 minutes 30 seconds, and for a masterpiece of it's caliber, that's now very long. I guarantee that you won't regret it, or maybe you will.
I'm joking. Do yourself a favor and don't watch it.
If you're saying that this ruins the joke, yes it does. I'm just posting this to inform the naive shits who think I'm actually being serious.read more
While there's not much to say about a 2 min short, I really feel like Takena's works need a lot more recognition. For a short clay animation this really deserves a FAIR review. While I'm by no means an expert when it comes to clay animation, the least I can do is to offer my own personal opinion.
Stories in these short films are really a double edged sword. How do you make a 2 min short a worthwhile watch? How do you leave an impact to the viewer?
Takena has decided to approach this problem by presenting us these, quite literally, visceral visuals and themes in his stories. This does not come without a risk. It's clear how themes like these can easily work against, and possibly hurt the work itself.
The art alone sets this animation above your average clay animation. This is where Takena clearly shines. The amount of detail that's put into the art alone is a reason to witness this short.
The background music is really solid and thus sets the appropriate mood for the movie. Sound effects we're also good, although a bit lacking.
Characters we're definitely the weakest part of the whole film. They we're well designed, but there was not even a hint of any backstory to them or their current situation.
I myself really enjoyed this short film. It has a lot of shock value and a touch of humor in it, although the viewer has to make a tiny bit of effort in order to "fully" round the characters. If you can take this film for what it is, it can be an enjoyable ride.
Is this film a masterpiece among other anime? No, but for a couple minutes long clay animation it really leaves an impression that sticks.
Story is supposed to be a comedy and horror. Horror i will agree on. You do see a death but the death is quite tame and predictable. As for comedy? how? aside from the death the killer(s) depending on your view make there crime public. Is it comical because the killers have a dark scene of humor and are sharing it with like minded people? Going away from the story's genre choices to more on the story line what the fu(@? i mean seriously? i know the movie is a little over two minutes long but give the viewers an idea what is going on. How did the victim get there? why are the killer(s) sharing their work? is that a suit the girl is wearing or body paint? is one of the killer's mind that of a child? This art reeks of unanswered questions. The least the creator could have done is have a shot scene of a newspaper that might explain the backstory. Yet, they did not.
Character: next to nothing for a back story can't really comment further.
Sound: you heard a chainsaw big whoop!
I could drone on but i will finish with a couple more sentences. I could have easily gave this a 1 or 2 but the artwork was decent for clay animation plus given the time frame a lot of work was put in.read more
