High School DxD

Surprisingly, despite this being labeled as "harem," this show didn't feel much like harem to me. Really strange. In fact, Sword Art Online felt even more of a harem than this, but ok. Issei only had like one real love interest, and that was Rias. Maybe it's the perspective of socially awkward people who think that if a girl talks to a guy, that means that the girl is in love with the guy that makes them think this is a harem. So I guess harem now means having a bunch of female characters and having one relevant male character in a same show. Oh, ... and I guess the main character constantly went on about how he likes harem or something. But I'm pretty sure that doesn't qualify a show as harem either.

Obviously one of the most important factors in these shows is the main protagonist. Everything centers around them, after all. Harem genre in general, unfortunately, does not have much variety in what main characters they could have. Very rarely you have protagonists like Keima, who is on a class of his own, or Shidou, who's at least likeable despite being incredibly generic just because he's not an annoying piece of shit that causes more problems for himself than everything else in the show. And then you have Issei. This protagonist just happens to be one of the obnoxious protagonists you could have in a show, harem or not. Did you ever watch other shows and saw that silly "perverted guy" who always hangs out near the main character and only exists as a brief comic relief? Yeah, that guy is a main protagonist now. Hope you liked those brief comic reliefs, because that's definitely not going to get old after an entire series.

If that wasn't bad enough, he's also "that" guy who happens to have one of the most powerful McGuffins in the series, which makes him suddenly important. Normally this wouldn't be too offensive since it's done by literally every other show, where the protagonist happens to have that special trait that gives him unfair advantage no matter what, but the way this show handles it is just terrible.

You see, the side characters that Rias has under her are supposed to represent what Issei lacks- Outside of them being awfully shallow as characters and merely existing to pander to specific parts of the audience as overdone archetypical tools that are in nearly any JRPG ever, they are supposed to exist to make Issei feel comparatively inferior. In fact, in the last episode, Issei talks about how he lacks the strength, healing ability, magical ability, or swordfighting skills while fighting the obligatory final boss of the season- Does this all matter? No. He has the most powerful weapon shown in the series so far, so why is this relevant? What was the point of making him seem "inferior" to others when all he has to do is do the typical resolve speech and it will make him just instantly more powerful than everyone else?

Let's put that in this context and see if that sounds any less ridiculous:
"I may not have a bamboo stick, boxing gloves, or a first-aid kit, but I have a rifle that I can shoot you with."

No, it still sounds dumb as shit. I also liked that chess analogy that the show kept bringing it up, though. It's almost like it's just there for the sake of being pretentious. And it is.

As for Rias, she's just bland as any other character in this show. She even goes on a speech about how she wants to be seen as Rias/herself and not be carried by her family name and nobility- Huh, that sounds awfully familiar. Oh, that's right- That's every Disney princess speech about how they're so perfect that it's bad. Outside of that, she falls in love with Issei because he's the main character and also because her fiancee conveniently happens to be a pretty huge dick like again, every Disney princess plot. While I'm not looking for super originality here, it's pretty bad if you're ripping off the fucking Disney routine.

Of course, it doesn't help considering the second half of the show involves this Disney princess routine being played out for too many episodes while the first half involves this clearly not evil girl suddenly calling Issei out on a date only to show her true evil nature in the same episode. The asinine pacing can be further shown by how Issei goes on later about how he truly cared about this girl he met for less than a day and how he's sad to realize that she was evil all along. Am I supposed to feel sad here? Later, Issei meets this other random girl, who he also met for less than a day, and later on she gets captured by the aforementioned evil girl, and then she experiences a horrible Disney death on a techno-cross. Good thing Rias can resurrect dead people, so that didn't matter in the end. The great part is that there was supposed to be this time limit about saving her before it was too late, but that turned out to be totally irrelevant too. Way to build tension and break it in the same episode. Trivialize an already inconsequential death of a girl that the MC has met for less than a day is truly the best way to invoke emotions.

As for the other elements of the show, the music is pretty generic, but not painful to listen to. The animation is also incredibly average, which is about what you'd expect from a show of this genre. Though if I had to point out a flaw, it would be that the character designs were just really generic. If you can't give your characters any depth, at least make them look interesting.

Overall, the show is bad. Shallow characters, annoying main character, irrelevant consequences (including how the MC "sacrificed" his arm for a power up, which was completely inconsequential), lack of an actual antagonist with an actual motive, and just overall being boring. It's downright offensive. The pacing was all over the place, and including quarter of the show with fillers is probably the most retarded idea one could come up with.

Frankly, for the longest time, I've been wondering why these harem shows were mostly awful. Maybe it's the overwhelming amount of pandering shoved into my face that is causing me to not enjoy these shows very much. Maybe. But more than likely it's just because they're fucking terrible. I tried to watch this all the way through while ignoring all the pandering so that maybe I could appreciate the hidden depth within. Or the lack thereof.

It didn't turn out well after all. Let's not try that again. And neither should you.

I saw the first season and it was horrible.
I have no problem with nudity, but when it's tastelessly put it annoys me a LOT!

The plot is so poor and the animation is SO SO pitiful.
They literally put the entire budget to animate the Boobs/Nipples. I'm so speechless about it!
The characters are tasteless, without interest and very very stereotyped.
the plot stinks, The characters stinks, even the script & explanation of the protagonists stinks.

To sum up, it's a nonsensical anime that wants to be a story mixing action and demon but with breasts everywhere and coarse language. The worst is that this is ... his only reason to exist.

Skip it seriously.

This series causes me all the negative things that I don't want to see in a series, the hypersexualization of women is something that I hate, ok?

History 1 / 10:

The story is mediocre, the scenes are badly spun, the fights are badly done, the protagonist wins without meaning, the scenes are forced, and every 5 seconds the series shows you a tit on the screen, I mean, if the series shows boobs every 5 seconds so you don't get bored makes you notice how BAD it is

Art and Animation 3/10:

The art of this series is something ... unaesthetic and unpleasant, the characters are poorly proportioned, ... rather the female characters, the backgrounds are OK, there is nothing that attracts attention, very average, the animation is fine, sometimes it is something weird.

OST and Voice Acting 3 / 10:

The voice acting is good, it has a good choice of seiyuus, but the OST, is VERY AVERAGE, you don't remember any song ... there is a song that does, which is used for most of the times that Rias appears in a window.

OP and ED 5.6 / 10:

I like the opening, the lyrics are good and they fit in with the anime, I just think that this series does not deserve that opening. The ending is average but it is catchy, although it is somewhat irritating in my opinion.

Character and Character Design 1 / 10:

The character design is fine, I like it, it's simple. THE CHARACTERS, OH MY GOD THIS IS THE WORST OF THE SERIES. The characters are so flat that they feel like cardboard, Issei is irritating, his idealization is bad wherever you want it see.Asia is unpleasant and useless, Rias has no purpose in the series, literally, she has no personality, she is only to command others, be president, and show boobs, nothing else. I do not understand Koneko, she seems to me the typical loli tsundere that gives fanservice, Akeno only says ArA arA arA..and nothing else, she shows boobs and accompanies Rias, Yuuto had some potential but it was wasted.

Enjoyment 1/10:

It was difficult to finish the series because the hypersexualization bothered me and that it would show boobs all the time, it was super boring, the series, I do not recommend watching it, better watch other series that are not this one please.

This anime always amazes me, as to how the fuck it managed to get so many seasons. I get what kind of anime it is but it would appear that the creators, producers and directors had the following priorities

1. Nudity
2. Some More Nudity
3. A Little More Nudity
4. Much More Nudity
5. Some Kind of Plot

With the 5th one not really making it into there. Nudity isn't the issue here but honestly beyond that there isn't anything else. The main protagonist is (literally) obtains power through his own deranged perversion.

Prison School is much better than this crap, it had interesting characters, scenarios, comedy all well put together. ... This is just shit.

Welcome to the world of beautiful demonic girls! Anime offers beautiful ladies and great fights. It was fun watching and I would definitely recommend it for men than for women, admittedly I'm a girl, but despite this I had fun watching this anime, so the girl may also like it, probably. Ecchi was a bit too much in total, but I turned a blind eye. I wasn't disappointed in this anime, although I had a bad feeling about it, luckily it turned out to be a good comedy with a hint of romance.

✿Story 7/10 - The ... story is not somehow original, but even ok. If there were more romance then it would be much better. The anime tells the story of a boy who, after death, concludes a contract with a demonic girl, and then is her servant, a pawn in the game. Too much ecchi, too little romance and action, which is a pity.

✿Art 9/10 - Some may think I'm kidding, but this line has stolen my heart. The character's eyes are something beautiful, the animation is smooth and the colors are very nice.

✿Sound 9/10 - Admittedly I've seen better openings and endings, but these certainly deserve such a high rating! I didn't even rewind them because they were pleasant to listen to.

✿Characters 6/10 - The best women in the anime.. Female characters were AMAZING, but most of the male characters... And here it spilled ... I don't want to tell spoilers, but the male characters in this anime are a tragedy... Well, I'll start discuss the main characters.

→ Gremory Rias 10/10 - My second favorite character in this anime. Calm, firm and intelligent, that's what Rias is. She isn't annoying which makes me very happy. Her design is wonderful and her eyes are beautiful.

→ Hyoudou Issei 5/10 - I do not give him an exaggerated low score, because at some moments he was cool, but I'm begging you, seriously the guy thinks only about one thing all the time? His design is even ok, but I don't like his hair a bit.

→ Himejima Akeno 8/10 - I think she's a great character, calm and sadistic. She wasn't annoying, her design is ok.

→ Toujou Koneko 10/10 - My favorite character in this anime. Calm and sweet kuudere girl. She was the only one who blame Issei for his perverted thoughs. her design is the best in the anime, she is so cute that you can get diabetes.

→ Argento Asia 7/10 - A charming character, sometimes annoying, but bearable. Design has beautiful.

→ Kiba Yuuto 7/10 - The best male character in this anime. he wasn't annoying or perverted. His design is ok.

Good and evil, people with unique super powers and a main charachter who wants to save his friends, that's something new.

Where should I start, this Anime had in my eyes alot of potenial to evolve into a intresting anime, but the lack of story and the overdo of zooming naked breasts takes it all away.
Think of a normal shounen anime and throw some naked chicks in it, thats what it is, Hentai meeting shounen.
Do not bother watching this anime, you won't enyoy it unless your a extreme pervert, I gotta say Im really disgust by it.

Story:
High school DxD is a show about Issei Hyoudou your normal typical Japanese teenager if you have no idea what normal Japanese teenagers are actually and your entire knowledge of japan comes from watching re-runs of sailor moon while sticking your head in an oven. Basically, if Issei is a normal Japanese teenager i am French. So skip forward 10 minutes Issei has been killed by a fallen angel and has been resurrected by a demon called Titus Mammary, sorry, i meant Rias Gremory who is the part of the Infamous Gremory Clan because they took one look at her sizeable breasts and said 'Yep ... that's a main character'.

Art:
The art is quite good, it obviously has a good budget behind it and while the assets might be a bit cliche (typical fantasy affair) they are well designed and the fight scenes are well choreographed and some i dare say are exciting

Sound:
Why is this a thing that can be rated? The people that watch this show don't care about sound unless it's the sound that the characters breasts make as they bounce together, the background music could be Barry Manilows greatest hits and they would still rate it 10/10

I will now try to sum up the characters in as few words as possible because i want to put as much effort into their character design as the author did

Issei: Man who likes boobs very much becomes a demon and is basically the modern day equivalent of Jesus except more perverted and Japanese

Overall:
In summation if you like a run of the mill action anime with some light-hearted "awkward" typical Japanese affair comedic scenes then this is for you. Enjoy

It should go without mentioning that the most something like High School DxD could hope to get from me is a 5/10. Having gotten that out of the way, High School DxD is about boobs, so this review shall too, be about the boobs.

If anyone ever told you that High School DxD was an Ecchi Harem with a good story, they lied. The story is horrendous, come here for boobs and boobs only.

I have a really big beef with the boobs in High School DxD: there is not a lot of variety. All the boobs are the same color and the ... same shape, just different sizes. They're even all drawn the same. When I see more than two sets of boobs, I want them to be at least slightly different. I want different shapes, colors, and tones in my boobs.

[The failure of High School DxD]

Here is my issue with the fan service in High School DxD: it's not sexy. I would call it perverted at its best and boring at its worst. Don't get me wrong, I'm the last person that will ever be ungrateful for boobs; every boob has a special place in my heart, but it's not the size of the boobs that matters, it's how you use them. And, High School DxD does not use its boobs well. Though to be fair, 99.9% of ecchi anime does the same thing; they use boobs as decorations and not as devices of sexiness.

Another major problem with the fan service in High School DxD is that the ecchiness is forced and not incidental. What I mean by that is that ecchiness should come from convenient directing and natural circumstances. Forcing out nun boobs through perverted magic spells is less impactful than having sexy characters in sexy scenarios.

[Ending thoughts]

High School DxD is bad, ok? Let's not kid ourselves here. I only recommend it if you're really thirsty. If you want to see fan service done well, go watch some Monogatari Series and my reviews for it.

P.S. I watched the English dub, that's why the sound is 1/10.

Well, I'm one of those guys who love stories. You know, the thing that we don't really find in 3/4 of anything. And so, HDxD have a pretty decent story, it's a light novel after all, story is important. Writing skill too.

It's kind of sad thinking that the anime is pretty much a pair of tits. Pretty strong to put fanservice where there no need. Even better to do an ending and opening who is fanservice. And, hell, the anime is fanservice itself. That's big.

What ? You want something worth watching for ? Well, HDxD can be a very enjoyable material if you use it ... for sexual enjoyment, I think. It's nearly uncensored for a good reason.

But if it's story that you want, go for the light novel or the manga. The anime will just put your mind upside down and made you wonder what the hell you are doing with your life. It could destroy your self-esteem. Seriously.

So... after a well deserved break from school and responsibilities, this anime has given me a wonderful afternoon with friends.
Is this anime good? No....
Did I have a good time watching this? By all means yes!
Here's why!

Starting off with-
[Story] 2/10 - Good flipping lord.... there is a plot, somewhere, hidden behind all of the sex jokes and breasts that happen every other scene. I strongly believe that there is a story in almost every anime... this one... I really don't know. Sure it has a story, but what is it? All I understood was "oh we are gonna fight these guys cause why not". Even ... when the anime did try to explain the plot they did it in one scene that seemed to go by really fast, in fact too fast. The story is most prominent when they take it slow and span the explanation of it over a few episodes, giving the viewer that "Oh so that's whats going on!" moment. This anime does that once... ONCE! And during the last episode!

[Art] 7/10 - My motto is to give credit where credit is due. The art is good, is it great? No. But its not horrible, which is really nice. While most of the art department went into the characters and not really the backgrounds or scenes that said characters are in, it is still well done. Never making me hate looking at the characters. The only thing that is really bad about the animation/design is the characters hair. Rias' Hair looks horrible... The animation during the ED of the show is also atrocious. That's it!

[Sound] 8/10 - While I did not particularly like the OP of the show it did fit well with it. The ED is great and does seem to fit well with the show as well, I have almost no problem with the songs in this anime. BUT. Some scenes could have used a better song choice, the overall sfx of the show is good, there are some scenes that are a bit iffy but I can give it a pass for now.

[Character] 3/10 - They tried, so hard to create unique and interesting characters but it just doesn't work out. There is one character who is posted as a main character but truly acts as the supporting role in most scenes. What was her name again? Asia? Something like that. The blonde nun. Anyway she is the most flat, uninteresting character I have ever seen. Same goes for Koneko, who also has no character, like ffs when Koneko from Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls has more of a personality than the one from a real anime there is a problem.

[Enjoyment] 9/10 - It was a late night, me and a few friends had an idea. To watch this anime... and golly it was a great night. This anime is so comically exploitable I cant even describe to you how easy it is! We had a mf blast watching this! The best way I can describe watching this is simple: It's like watching a train wreck, its so bad but you just can't look away!

[Overall] 3/10 - Sound and Art cannot carry a show in my opinion, you need a good balance of everything to even garner a good score. I hate yet love this anime, im a straight man, but seeing so many breasts, and having them show up every other scene got tiring, it was shocking and funny at first. Now its old and used up. So tiring that it makes me want to swing the other way.
Do I recommend this? Nope, especially if you are looking for a plot heavy show. Yes, if you are looking for a trashy anime to watch with tired/drunk friends late at night.

Shame on you Issei.
Well, i never write a review and i am not fluent in english so... sorry for that.
Ok i know it is an ecchi but this could have been sooo much better even being an ecchi, im going to talk about the points that i really dont like about this show.

So lets start, first of all i dont know what pass to the head of the guy who created this but he loves to show the characters boobs all the time, like, super tense fight, a lot of emotional things happening ppl dying and the enemy atacks one of the girls ... and her cloths just rip appart and the boob stay there for the rest of the episode. This is really unnecessary to me, breaks all the emotional.

So lets talk about this f* Issei, poor Rias to fall in love to a guy that not even can call her for the first name, cant even see she loves him, if the romance of these two was worked out better, that would be very good for the story, I really appreciate a good couple and it's very sad to see Rias in love with him and he just thinking about harem and other girls' breasts.
I mean is not like Asia, Akeno and the others are bad, but he literally doesn't try nothing with any of them. For me it is very sad to see a possible novel barely exploited, with the excuse of being a Harem, and even with that excuse, the creator still makes the girls fall in love with this protagonist who does not give a shit for there love for him, only the breasts. And im not saying he dont care about them you can clearly see his rage when he thinks Asia is dead (talking about 3 season), but think about that it would it be better that in this moment of fury he was thinking that he lost his girlfriend, or the person he loves?
And it does not have to be in the specific fight in which he thinks that Asia has died, imagine in the last arc of the third season, where Rias loses control of itself, he could go save her and return with new girlfriend, but no, he saves her, finally calls her name, wins a kiss. And forget everything, YES HE FORGOT IT.

It might have been a great show, but some details really disappointed me.
If you do not care about anything I mentioned, you're just looking for an anime with breasts jumping all over and does not care about the story at all. Go for it.

This is an infamous anime for certain reasons and I got over that fact pretty quickly. Now be forewarned this show is heavy on suggestive themes, so if watched make sure you are in a safe room/area to watch it in.

Story: At first I was all into the story, but it ended up hitting a point in the show where I just lost a lot of respect for the shows plot, well for what plot it had. I enjoyed the action scenes very much. However this show is just really nothing but nudity, I mean really. I had to skip over most of the ecchi ... stuff for it just got out of hand. I finished all the seasons for I was wanted to see a certain fight.

Characters:

Issei: Our MC who has a strange goal of getting a certain title. I like him to a certain degree, but his drive for fighting at times is just weird.

The Harem: They just throw themselves at him constantly. They have their own personalities and don’t think about him 24/7 which is good. My fav of the girls is Akeno for she is the best looking and her personality backs it up. I thought she had the most going for her in a relatable background and I remember an episode where she and Issei went on what considered a real date.

Everyone Else: Good personalities that make them memorable.

When Hayao Miyazaki's surreal and astonishing Spirited Away broke new ground to win the 2003 Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, a benchmark on the anime world was set and a new era of interest and admiration for anime as an artform was born. 17 years on from that landmark event, I wonder now if anyone watching the crowning of that prestigious title could have possibly foreseen something as monumentally awful as High School DxD under the same genre of media in January of 2012.

The story in which this burning car crash plays out is as follows. The protagonist we meet off the bat and ... are assigned to root for is Issei, a high school student who I was quick to find is neither relatable nor likeable in anything that he says or does. Shunning any academic effort, he opts to spend his days daydreaming about his female classmates and all the lewd things he wants to do to them. His life goal, he says, is to have a harem of them to serve as his sex slaves. Lovely. Accompanied by his two generic best friends, so sparkling in their personality I have genuinely forgotten their names, they seem hell bent on this exact same goal with unrelenting enthusiasm. Like a hysterical exaggeration of a sex offender's mindset, except it's played for laughs and - frighteningly one suspects - audience relatability. Not content with leering at his peers in his head alone, Issei and his friends quite literally spy on girls on the school premises showering and changing naked through a hole in the wall. And here we find the gaping issue with High School DxD that permeates its entire run time - a fascination with treating all female characters on screen as meat, and the relentless indulgence in completely unnecessary shots of fully animated naked breasts contorting like water balloons rolling around a dashboard.

The plot, which I hesitate to describe as a plot because it is so chaotically interchangable and clumsily crafted, follows Issei's unfortunate reeling into a paranormal conflict between three factions of the afterlife. These are Angels, Fallen Angels, and Devils. Each have unique traits and world conquering objectives to further their cause, each should have a thematically recognisable style but look identical in their attire - high school massacre casual wear for boys, revealing fetish gear for the girls. Issei manages to die after being murdered by a Fallen Angel on a date, which sadly does not end the show but through his resurrection and involuntary induction to the Devil's faction he is reborn and granted powers via a Yu-Gi-Oh deck holder on his arm that farts its catchphrase 'BOOST-O' when he charges it up to fight members of the other factions with it. We are assured this is a greatly powerful gift but Issei spends a lot of time getting beaten to a pulp regardless, which I found to be one of the very few things I momentarily enjoyed in watching the show. Issei is taken under the wing of Rias, the red haired leader of the Devil faction masquerading as a student at the school leading an occult club. To me Rias is, to put it quite simply, an incredibly boring and one dimensional character. Her robotic settings are either confident mother role playing concern for her injured friends, or frowny faced vampire mumbling nondescript concerns for her family honour and ordering her peons (also bestowed the gift of two robotic personality settings each) to do asanine preparation tasks for the next inevitable fight with a rival faction. Despite this Issei finds her captivating, which like all the women around him is once again down to how disproportionately large her breasts are. This is actually considered the pull of the show in lieu of an engaging or interesting plot.

Said plot escalates as factions collide, Issei learns new random abilities because the narrative dictates he has to suddenly progress, new members join (including an incredibly annoying healing nun named Asia who literally shuns her lifelong holy pilgrimage to go on adventures with Issei and pals within 24 hours of meeting them) and generally participate in set piece battles for the remainder of the season. So without going into too much detail, that's the gist of the plot. A plot riddled with confusing branches, nonsensical overreactions and bafflingly minor arcs fanfared as epic milestones that have no effect. But what of the show as a whole?

Well to be perfectly honest I think it's a horrible mess. A parade of wholeheartedly unrelatable and unlikeable characters bereft of reasonable thought or logic pepper the audience with their repetitive and predictable lines, each character dutifully following a set stereotypical trait they are glued to for the duration of the season. Characters like Issei and Asia make bewildering changes in opinion for seemingly no reason - Issei particularly has borderline schizophrenic suicide pact attachments to characters he has barely been acquainted with on naming terms mere hours ago.

So there is no character development or cohesive plotline to get invested in, for the first season at least. I won't be watching further. A problem that can be overlooked if there is some redeeming factor elsewhere. But in High School DxD, the only factor they want the audience focussed on is the breasts of its female characters. The number of seedy, crudely explicit breast and upskirt panty shots is simply staggering. All combat leads to the tearing of clothing to reveal exaggerated breast physics animation, as if it is contractually obligational to take any opportunity possible to remove an item of clothing and escalate the scenario to a gratuitous and tedious breast close up. It isn't funny. It isn't arousing. It's crass.

The lofty level of respect High School DxD has for the human form is somewhere beneath the Mariana Trench and ignited frequent head shaking in disbelief as I watched the grimy, leering, perverse cacophony play out. The entire show feels genuinely unclean. It's
uncomfortable to watch and relentless perversion permeates every single episode, to a quite concerning degree as if the entire thing was made under duress by an escaped sex offender to an innocent animator held at gunpoint.

In conclusion, High School DxD is a terrible anime. A contrived attempt to normalise what is essentially Netflix friendly hentai, the show had me laughing throughout - not out of enjoyment, but in its face. For its sensationally unapologetic misogyny. For its bumbling plot threads changed at a moment's notice for convenience. For its insulting treatment of its own audience. After Spirited Away won the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003, just how the hell did we regress to this within a decade?

High school DXD fails how an ecchi anime should be made.

First of all, I've never seen a protagonist this perverted, it would've been reasonable if they added more depth to his character. But staying only as a perverted person. Makes the story feel dull and fails it from having a great protagonist. Because to me, a great character is a complex one that shows many different traits that make you feel an emotional rollercoaster. I can not simply understand why people would like issei as a character, it's okay to be jealous of his harem. But he is not a person that you should ... be looking up to.

Furthermore, they fail to justify the fanservice in this anime. They put ecchiness over the story. It is certainly unnecessary to show boobies and panty shots almost every single minute. Naughty jokes are okay but The boobie shots should be done at a minimum, instead they fucking show lazer beam boobies. Pew pew pew. I like ecchi anime, but they certainly overdid it to more of a hentai. might as well make a sex scene at that.

Yes, I get it, people watch it for the "plot" in this anime, so did i. But what about the true plot of the story. Well, there's atleast hundreds of anime out there about demons and gods so its not that over revolutionary but its not atleast overly boring.

In my opinion, high school dxd is fanservice done wrong from a failed protagonist to a shitty romance that focuses more on his harem than finding a good reason to love him. But if you're a really horny person that only thinks about sex 24/7 then this is the anime for you, but know that you are a truly down bad to society for liking such a shit protagonist. And This show is just an excuse to watching hentai.

First of all, to any poor bastard who sat through three full seasons of this garbage franchise as I did, do yourself a favor and only watch the first season to get the idea of what this show has to offer: Nothing. By the end of the 5th episode, I felt dead on the inside. The only good thing about DxD are the amazing fanfics out there. The idea of DxD is great, but the canon execution is awful.

Highschool DxD adapts off a Light Novel written by Ichie Ishibumi, who is one of the worst authors to ever walk the Earth.

To ... keep the story short, every fanboy of Rias Gremory simps for her, especially the Main Character, even though she left him to die after he was murdered by his girlfriend, Raynare, who is a Fallen Angel. Rias is a Devil that reincarnates him, claiming she "saved" him when in reality, she enslaved him into her peerage using a Pawn piece; Devils use a chess set with the leader of each peerage being the King, and subordinates who run away are hunted down and murdered without a trial.

Rias Gremory is the most overrated anime character in history. She's hot, yes, but that doesn't excuse how shitty of a person she is.

She goes on to explain something called the Great War and how there is all this tension between the Three Factions, the Devils, Fallen Angels, and Angels. But sadly, this pathetic excuse of a franchise never expands on it, show any scenes of the war, and much like the Rating Games and their cringy "oppai dragon" kid fans, this canon franchise is kept PG aside from the obvious boring harem fanservice.

Speaking of fanservice, by the end of the 5th episode, I was enraged that Issei's girlfriend, Raynare, was a character I really wanted to know more about in terms of her motives for killing him, but instead, she met her end and doesn't appear in the show afterwarrds for reasons that I cannot say due to spoilers. Her character was one that was set up in a way that made it seem like she would be a major important character, so the way she was written is easily the most disappointing aspect of this atrocious franchise. Why kill Issei? Why bother asking him out on a date, only to stab him and taunt him? These questions were never answered.

Seriously, what purpose does Raynare's character serve other than to force the MC into the supernatural, to keep the story moving forward? Fanservice?

And about the whole oppai dragon crap, it is okay for the MC to have young fans, but this made me want to run head first into a brick wall. Who cares what a bunch of little kids are doing? Screw that! I want more M rated violent action in this show rather than this!

Issei Hyoudou, a 2nd year highschool pervert who only likes to peep on girls, jack off to huge tits, and hang out with his two perverted "friends," if he can even call them that. Never have I ever seen a character as stupid as him. All the signs are there right in front of him, that Rias knew what was going to happen to him and let him die, but he's too stupid to realize that, claiming he "loves" her when in reality, he only wants the redhead to flash her "bazongas." And yet, I feel bad for him... for being so incomprehensibly dumb, that is.

Issei and Rias have so much plot armor as well, they would make Goku jealous. Hell, the writer would probably make them fight someone as strong as Goku AND SURVIVE! HOW?!

To think I actually ship Issei x Raynare... But canon Issei is too low IQ for me to take him seriously.

And then there was the whole boring Riser Phenex training/rating game/wedding arc... Cliche, overused, etc.

Asia Argento is also the most useless character in this franchise.

This is the only aspect that is worth anything, but again, this entire show is nothing but fanservice.

I do have to say that the LN has much better art than the anime, from what I have seen.

All in all, only watch the first season, and then go read some great fanfics, because there are plenty of fans, especially the ones who don't simp for Rias, that are much smarter than Ichie Ishibumi. Canon DxD is garbage.

One of the worst anime's to ever air and IDC what anyone has to say

Honestly, Issei is such a horrible main character. I really wish he actually took his power seriously and worked to maintain it. The manga creator, look I love you I really do, but the story and the characters are just horrible. The ecchi in the anime carries this to its special 7.30 rating on this website. I won't lie the sexual content in this show really got me going. It's the only good thing about this show. I really don't have much to say but the ecchi is the only thing ... this anime, manga, and LN got. I can't believe I actually paid attention to the detail, it was definitely because I saw boobs and underwear every 5 minutes.

LOLLL it was cringy and embarrassing watching Issei beat that one guy at the end like, come on that was so whack. Issei gets carried to W's by boobs, underwear, and his power. Also, Asia should've died in the 2nd or 3rd episode. Would've made the story wayyyyy better, more characters should've died too

i watch it because some people are really like this kind of anime. so im just curious and check it its really not that enjoyable. to be honest its like 12 years old anime with label of illegal for kid's, i know i late to make this review, but for those who never watch it, i suggest dont. this is 2019 its not a fairy tale to have a story like a white knight save his princess, lol that always make me laugh.

the MC its self is funny at first but later it began to really disguesting sometimes, not only that, the stroy turn out ... to be white knight things in by the end of the series, omg this is hillarious XD. im really not suggest of this anime, it just too fastasy and such

overal im already want to drop this anime while watching it, but its good im still want to watch it till the end thou, i would give this anime 2/10 actually but gonna give 4 because of. . . . . yeah its because its old anime and people still fantasize too much lol

Me personally, I don't like these types of animes. I was curious as to look in and research about this new genre of anime and so far I don't like it. The sexual things that show in this anime is cool and all but sometimes, I just don't enjoy the story plot sometimes. Not to bring in religion and all but being on the devils side is bad and such so it's just weird and it's weird to me like there's like 3 sides to the whole I guess you can say, 'war'. It just doesn't float my boat and I'ma have to give it ... a 4 for that reason.

Also I watched this Anime for a Friend of mine and this is a Genre I usually don't watch.

Starting with Issei, he was a bit of a more interesting MC of an Ecchi Harem than expected, most of that is due to Yuki Kaji's Fun Performance and how he wears his thoughts and Feelings on his Sleeves. Rias, our main girl, was a bit of a disappointment tho.
Not living up to the hype, she came off as vapid and at times downright creepy towards Issei to me, ... talking about him like property at times and comming onto him where it isn't always clear if Issei enjoys it.
Only after the Phoenix-Arc she become a lil bit more likeable to me.

The other Characters are fun but pretty one note and it was fine to me, I knew they weren't the focus of the first season so it reluctantly accepted that.
Asia was a nice breath of fresh air, her chemistry with Issei kept me watching for the first half of the Show, but in the later half she continued to fall into a stereotype and felt flat to me.

The Animation was all around good, especially for the female characters, and the Soundtrack worked and enhanced the Show's Atmosphere.
The Plot however was formulaic and to be expected for this genre, but at times exactly that predictable-ness made it hard to keep watching.

The Ecchi was good I suppose, tho felt entirely out of place mostly. I didn't need to see a boob every time a character had a tragic moment or had an important conversation.
It was fine in the right, upbeat moments, but felt disrespectful to the characters in the important ones.

All in All I gave Highschool DxD a 4 out of 10, It is a fine Ecchi Anime but it wasn't something I enjoyed.
