The Last: Naruto the Movie

Two years have passed since the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Konohagakure has remained in a state of peace and harmony—until Sixth Hokage Kakashi Hatake notices the moon is dangerously approaching the Earth, posing the threat of planetary ruin.

Amidst the grave ordeal, Konoha is invaded by a new evil, Toneri Oosutuski, who suddenly abducts Hinata Hyuuga's little sister Hanabi. Kakashi dispatches a skilled ninja team comprised of Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Shikamaru Nara, Sai, and Hinata in an effort to rescue Hanabi from the diabolical clutches of Toneri. However, during their mission, the team faces several obstacles that challenge them, foiling their efforts.

With her abduction, the relationships the team share with one another are tested, and with the world reaching the brink of destruction, they must race against time to ensure the safety of their planet. Meanwhile, as the battle ensues, Naruto is driven to fight for something greater than he has ever imagined—love.

Overall Score: 7/10

As a dedicated NaruHina fan, I came away from The Last: Naruto the Movie, feeling to an extend satisfied. It captures the essence of their long-awaited romance while tying up some loose ends from the Naruto series, but it does have a couple of shortcomings that is likely due to its constrained runtime. Overall, the team did an good enough job under two hours time frame it had.

Art: 9/10
The visuals are absolutely stunning and a step up from the TV series. The animation is crisp and fluid, especially in the high-stakes action sequences and lunar landscapes. I regret not seeing this in ... theaters. Studio Pierrot truly outdid themselves here.

Also Hinata looked so beautiful omg lol

Soundtrack: 10/10

The ost are masterpieces, ethereal, operatic, and perfectly suited to movie. I low-key listen to them and has it as my go-to playlist for sleeping or relaxing. If you haven't already, highly recommend searching for the OST on YouTube, it's worth it.

Story: 6/10

The plot is decent and engaging enough to hold your attention throughout, blending sci-fi elements with the Naruto universe in a fun, if somewhat predictable, way. It revolves around a looming threat to the world and Naruto's personal growth, with Hinata playing a central role. It's not groundbreaking or particularly deep it was alright, not bad just alright.

Characters: 8/10

No explanation needed for a Naruto fan. Naruto’s short hair really grew on me—it fits his mature character. Everyone looks great, and Naruto’s emotional growth feels genuine. Hinata’s quiet strength shines, and characters like Sakura and Shikamaru add nostalgia without stealing the spotlight. It all feels true to form, highlighting bonds and post-war growth.

Enjoyment: 8/10

This is enjoyable watch that kept me hooked from start to finish. The fight scenes are dynamic and creative, incorporating new jutsu and environments that feel fresh. It's a fun, feel-good movie with humor, heart, and hype, perfect for a cozy night in. As a romance-focused entry, it delivers those butterflies, even if not perfectly which I will now point.

Weak Points:

That said, the romance—the film's main issue was that the movie already established that Naruto is already in love with Hinata and that is the biggest issue od the movie, the emotional core and a pivotal development for NaruHina—could have used more breathing room. The scenes in the abandoned village are adorable and tease their chemistry beautifully, but they feel truncated. A bit more dialogue or quiet moments to explore their feelings would have let the relationship truly sink in for viewers. Additionally, including a flashback to Hinata supporting Naruto in the hospital after the war (especially with his arm injury) could have provided a stronger foundation, reminding us of their history without relying solely on the movie's events.

I get that the runtime is only about 1 hour and 52 minutes, so compromises were inevitable. Still, I can't help wishing it had been extended to 2:30 or even 3 hours—like some other anime films (*Demon Slayer: Mugen Train* comes to mind). That extra time could have fleshed out subplots, deepened the villain's motivations, and given the romance the epic buildup it deserves. If you're a completionist, watch this after finishing *Naruto Shippuden* for maximum impact, as it directly follows the series' events.

In summary, *The Last* is a charming, visually spectacular send-off for the original Naruto era, especially if you're invested in NaruHina. It's not flawless, but it's a solid 7. Recommended for fans!

Mixed Feelings

That kiss deserves a better story to tell
Naruto was my childhood, so I understand the characters in this story very well. There is nothing happier than seeing the characters you loved since childhood find their own happiness. The story between Naruto and Hinata is the center of this movie. Their ending is a beautiful and worthy ending. But I find this more like fan service than the end of a memorable experience.
A simple, empty story, full of unconvincing, absurd plot holes with a bland and forgettable villain. Aside from the pretty good ending song, the music in this movie didn’t really leave an outstanding impression. ... In terms of visuals, I want to give credit to those who designed the characters’ looks and costumes. I was impressed with the designs of the familiar characters after they grew up. However, the designs of the backgrounds and locations were quite unimpressive and a bit lacking in aesthetics.
If I divide this movie into 3 parts: Beginning, development and ending, I can give my opinion on each part as follows, of course I will also talk about the points that I am not satisfied with.
Beginning: The characters are introduced with great promise. It can be said that although the opening scene about Ninja history has little to do with the story that follows, familiar characters appear with new and impressive costumes and appearances. The story about Konoha's life is beautiful and close. However, the lack of conviction started when Toneri appeared. First, Hinata fell from a high floor and it seemed like she didn't know what to do. She was a Chunnin-level Ninja. She could walk on walls, right?
Development: Here I would like to present two directions, one is the development of the feelings between Naruto and Hinata, the other is the story of the confrontation with Toneri. Regarding the first direction, it is clear that the movie spent a lot of time on Naruto and Hinata. But I found their relationship development to be uninteresting and somewhat forced. Love needs to be tested. And I don't see any test. Naruto naturally likes Hinata. No way. Accompanying the two main characters are supporting characters like Sakura, Shikamaru, Sai. When they talk to each other, I don't find any interesting. In the end, Naruto's feelings for Hinata are still not convincing. On the second side, the story is even more boring and forgettable. Let's start with the Hanabi rescue team finding a cave somewhere, and then they go to different places. The viewers won't know where it is if no one tells them where these places are, where they are, how far they are from home, etc. The locations are not described clearly, instead each place is given directions as if this is a game and not a movie. Furthermore, this is a mission to rescue an important person, yet from the beginning until Hinata voluntarily follows Toneri, no one mentions Hanabi. Even Hiashi, who was in trouble at the beginning of the movie, doesn't appear again or is mentioned by anyone until the end. The other characters all have problems. Guy is in a wheelchair for no reason. Sasuke just appears for no reason. The connection between us, the viewers, and the characters is quite weak. Those who are expecting a fight between Naruto and Sasuke will be disappointed. The way the villains attack is so uninteresting: Kamehameha energy shots? And puppets always. The scene where Shikamaru breaks into the villain's base is too simple. Then the villain suddenly turns good at the end? And Hanabi's eyes after being taken out are put back in her eyes like nothing happened. Hanabi is a person, not a doll.
Ending: the action scenes are not good enough and the credits are worth watching. Obviously, those who watch the Naruto movie will want more dramatic and exciting action scenes. We don't need Naruto going to the moon to save the earth, we just need a close combat to protect the village. As for the ending of Naruto and Hinata, I can say that the credits are worth watching more than the movie. And the after credits too. I want to scream at the after credits scene. That was my childhood. Unfortunately, that after credits scene couldn't make this movie special, which it should have been.

I love Naruto. And I'm quite used to its questionable writing and other issues. But this movie is just bad. The plot is awful, really showy for no reason, feels like filler, and Hinata is boiled down to a damsel in distress so that Naruto can have someone to save and make him shine. Hinata has proven in the past that she is way stronger and determined than she is in this movie. Honestly her behaviour is ooc.

This is my score upon a full rewatch of the series. Last time I saw this movie a few years back I just kinda felt whatever about it, ... but this time around I tried to pay attention and it turns out it's just bad. The Naruto universe didn't need some big ass 'saving the world' moment after the finale of the series, and the 'romance' attempt is awful. Doujinshi treats NaruHina better if you ask me.
